After days of working on this and then an extra week of contemplation arguing with myself if this counts towards the contest theme and if its an act of folly on my behalf to have two people who don’t celebrate christmas be the main subject in a christmas piece — I CAN PUT THIS TO REST. This is the first time I ever entered any fanart contests and I may have stressed this one out a bit too far (coming from the several revisions and sketches that I’ll have to clean up in a later time) but I hope this will suffice.

Most of Elio and Vox’s winters were spent using the holidays to steal for survival — something about the Christmas spirit before they start pickpocketing, I am imagining — and when they are well past the need to lowkey ruin Christmas for others, they’ll just spend the rest of the winter days huddled up in whatever space seems the most comfortable and catch up on the old times, with drinking being their second-most priority. The left does depict their first winter together (if you can count it as that based on the circumstances), but comfort is comfort either way.

So like,,, Merry Christmas?? I am like a day late but santa can wait, i have no need to follow his schedule.

And also — additional little sketch below because i felt like there was something missing in the full piece and wanted to do an extension piece, up to them to decide if this counts towards the entry or not.

But yeah, genuinely I had a lot of fun making this piece despite all my mulling about it and how painful rendering was (“Oh, I’ll just render Elio and Vox and be done with this” then proceeds to spend 4 hours rendering blankets) but i felt like my effort will pay off in the end and IT DID (personally, of course), mrr chrrms and have an intact 2024 💃🕺🏻💃🕺🏻

I would also like to add — thank you everyone who has followed and reblogged from this account this year, I know I am very silent and only pop in to drop art then go radiosilent for the next couple of days but reading all the tags has been keeping me up and motivated to draw all the time and it means even more because this is the first time i made a dedicated account — it may not mean much in the long run, but you all are really fun and made my 2023 a lot better :D now i am off to go retire for the year, have a good one

here's my captain Autumn ('de Wilde’ is her real last name but due to some grievances and legality issues, alongside some high society gentleman saying that it was a pretty name, 'd'Ville’ is what she usually goes by as a last name), a reckless liberationist who probably should have gotten a sense of danger by now but she's more alive than not (we do not talk about her nightmare levels though) She hates the monarchy, the monarchy hates her — as you do.

For Vox:

The Sanguine Vigilance — “It can’t hurt to have a man of the hunt as a wolf you can call to if you need anyone off your shoulder — better that than being the lamb instead.” +5 Shadowy, +5 Dangerous, +3 Dreaded, -12 Respectable. Greatly increases Suspicion build up.

Like Elio, he can be obtained either through his respective ES or can be dragged out of Hallowmas (his upgraded version only adds an extra level of Shadowy and Dangerous while lowering the negative Respectable to -5, otherwise its also +1 Bizarre.)

For Elisha:

The Despondent Relinquere — “Soft-spoken and often lost in the bustling streets, they’re really more of a lost puppy in search of their owner if it weren’t for their follies and faults. Still, they’re rather harmless, and would you deny such a kindness to such a man?” +5 Watchful, +3 Shadowy, -2 Persuasive. Reduces Suspicion and Scandal build up.

They can be seen generally moping around during Christmas or at the University and can be obtained through a storyline in the latter (not sure with the specifics on that story, its something Correspondence-related, but they are there.)

🎩 — What would an Exceptional Story featuring this character be about?

Mind you, I haven’t tried out any of the Exceptional Stories yet so my ideas may not fit with the mold (if they have one) but I eat up stories revolving around one character SO

For Elio, it could be a specific set of circumstances that incorporates both Silverer and Midnighter experience — maybe some spies of the Great Game are experimenting with using Parabola (and dreams in general) to gain leverage and you latch unto join Elio in either Fucking Them Up (Irrigo abuse), Fucking Them Up (driving them insane/pointing the Fingerkings in their general direction), or Fucking Them Up (rigging the Chessboard against their favour) — Elio might then blast you with Irrigo before becoming your companion. Just might. Its a 50% luck check at the very end.

For Vox, I feel its just a more narratively complex version of this:

Okay, not exactly like that, but he has a history of getting unconnected murders pinned to his name and unfortunately this ES is when he decides to complicate things further because he’s got a longer hitlist than usual, and yeah he might also get hunted down by Vake hunters as you chase him around. He either joins you or you join him in the Boatman’s trip and there’s a section dedicated to persuading him to not jump out of the boat immediately and just get the chess match over with.

Pending title for Elisha’s ES: The Despondent Relinquere Gets Therapy (Kind of) — but if I am being honest, a story dedicated to/spotlighting them wouldn’t work with their character all that well but if they have to have an ES, it would more be about looking for/helping Elisha rather than Elisha helping out others or getting involved, they’re really closed off so its hard to construct a story surrounding them.

There’s two versions to this since Elio as a Silverer and Elio as a Midnighter are two vastly different people (well not really but moving from being a dreamweaver to being a spy of spies changes your mindset a lot) — it would go something like this:

The Gilded Viper — “Sometimes you see her through mirrors, and sometimes you see her out and about, making or breaking your life’s work through the public word. ‘Its best not to have your name anywhere on the Dionysian,’ or so you heard.” Persuasive +8, Shadowy +4, Glasswork +2, Bizarre +1.

The Pragmatic Letheologist — “Idle games of chess are wonderful ways to pass the time and it isn’t any different to those of the Great Game, but why does it feel like you’ve played this game before? And why does your opponent know your opening strategy by memory?” Persuasive +8, Watchful +4, Player of Chess +2, Dreaded +1.

In terms of obtaining her, she would either have her own ES to unlock her or through Feast of the Rose (mostly because romance and scandal are some of the only indulgences that she keeps, plus it just makes sense in my mind)

🪪 — Have they gone by any other titles? Will they go by different ones in the future?

I think having several titles that all kind of mean the same thing has become a little bit of an inside joke for Vox — since the nature of his profession as a Licentiate creates complications if he ever reveals that title — so while he currently goes by two official titles (and maybe a third one if I wanted to switch his profession to Monster Hunter), The One-Eyed Serpent and The Sanguine Vigilance, the rest of his titles are just a very vague description of what he looked like by passerbys as he’s out doing business. He’s kinda like a myth within the Neath?? Even though he’s very much alive?? Perplexes him to no end and he might have made his killing methods more bizarre just to fuck with people.
