So I've come to the conclusion that I should just move Kaede over to my other blog. It's more comfortable & I'm most active there, and everything's together as-is. If you'd like to continue any of our threads, please give this post a like and I'll follow you from here! I will be keeping J.JK as a verse for him - I'd just like to keep all my OCs together in one place. I wasn't planning on moving him, but it seems to be the best course of action since I'm not terribly active in this corner of the RPC anymore. I'll be pinning this post for easy access!

im assuming we are going on a date for valentine's day - said while arms crossed and looking away - ( way to ask someone to be his valentine )
"I-I suppose... I didn't know you were interested in that," Kaede attempted, a bit perplexed by the clear indication this was a demand as opposed to a request. He didn't mind - it'd been several years since he'd bothered with the holiday, though he couldn't quite remember the person he'd been with the last time. Couldn't have been any good if his memory failed him, but maybe it would be different with Naoya - he might've been a spoiled asshole some of the time, but he knew Kaede in a way, loved him in his own way, and despite his faults, despite his temper, he was here. Asking to do something with him on a romantic holiday.
Of course, Kaede fiddled with a lock or two of his hair, hardly able to maintain eye contact for the moment, thinking to himself about what he might wear on this date he would undoubtedly be going on with the leader of the Hei. Something nice, naturally, with a bundle of yellow carnations tucked under his arm - yes, those would be a fitting gift for Naoya. Flowers were a custom of his, one he put a lot of thought into even if he couldn't always remember them. In any event, he stood there, staring off into space as his mind sifted through formal clothes, more revealing outfits, and a million more after that. He had to look perfect, that much he was certain about.
But, he had to admit, he'd never thought Naoya would want to do something on Valentine's Day. Wasn't that corny, beneath him? Had they ever been on a real date before, or had it always been sneaking a few minutes here and there when they could manage it?
"Where do you want to go, Nao-chan?" and he looked up at him, reaching a hand toward him and prying his arm away from his chest. "Do you want to go out to eat, have dinner with me?" Slowly, now, gently grasping Naoya's hand. They weren't anywhere anyone could see them; He could touch him, if only for a moment. "We could go to a hotel again, drink wine and watch movies together. Or, we could do something else." Then he reached for Naoya's face, fingertips just barely dragging across his jaw - he wanted him to look at him. "Maybe a walk someplace quiet, maybe you could come home with me."

When their entire relationship is toxic, but they're both so fucked up that it's actually the best case scenario, because subjecting anybody else to either of them would be a human rights violation.

He flinched when Naoya's nails scraped into the half-healed shred of his wrist, seething through his teeth. No matter the warmth he radiated, he felt cold, different, resentful. Kaede tried to remember the confidence he had until now, the ability to stand in front of Naoya and tell him to go fuck himself, stand up for himself, tell him he's wrong and stupid and the next time he says anything so cruel to him again, he really would crush his head between his thighs next time. But all that petty, stubborn fire was gone and he could only slump into his arms.
Eyes downcast, he tried like hell to control his emotions, will the tears to stop - hide everything he felt in the moment. Wiping his eyes, once his warm was released, sharp pain jolting through it, he swallowed. He forgot Naoya could sometimes be cruel, insensitive, perhaps thinking he was special, but it was clear to him now that simply wasn't the case and he had to get over it. Accept it, choke it down, and remind himself of it every time. Even so, even so, he sank into Naoya, tentatively settling his head against his chest.
He didn't speak, nodding instead - he understood. It was too late to put on a brave face, but he tried anyway, heart heavy, twisted into knots. Tried think that this was just Naoya's best means of showing he cared at least a little. Would he be so...so disgusted with him if he didn't? Contradicting himself again, shaky fingers digging into silk and cotton - loose grip turning tight, holding onto him, curling into him no matter how much it ached and burned--
"O-okay," he rasped, exhaustion from crying and blood loss beginning to set in. "Yes...Naoya. You're clear."
Naoya's gaze remained cold and unyielding just as he keep himself in such dead silence while observing Kaede . He pulled the other man closer and now his lips were close to his ear . ❛❛ I really feel disgusted seeing you right now, it's repulsive. don't do it again . ❜❜ a warning that he said in such a low and bitter way before pulling back just a little to face the other again. There was no need to say anything else, he thought he had made his position clear, he is not playing and surely next time he would not react this way but maybe even worse.
He put Kaede in his arms once again, holding him firmly, he had no intention of letting him go, he was enraged but that didn't mean he wasn't going to be with him, he hated the fact that Kaede had ruined a part of him. The silence lasted in the emptiness and coldness of the room. It was then that he had found a way to calm down a little when he decided to speak again.
❛❛ i know, it hurts, darling . . . i know . ❜❜ he whispered as he digged his nails hard in one of his wound before letting go . ❛❛ this is why it wont happen again near my presence , right ? . . . this is what will happen next ; we are going to get you clean and take care of those wounds and then we shall spend the rest of the night together , am i being clear ? ❜❜

"Even in death, I'm responsible for these people..." he grumbled, tucking his words into a sigh under his breath and snatching the treaty Jin had provided.
A centuries-old parchment, kept well and cleanly but still showing the familiar marks of age. Wrinkles, frayed edges, some smears of ink here and there, but no less clear on what was owed - and just who had signed it. He scowled, searching through the document for a drawing of some kind, a picture of the so-called Mourning Star - how pretentiously grim. The Shikabane clan and its inclinations toward all things death-related...even centuries before today. He was almost embarrassed.
Still, he half-listened to Jin while he read, picking up on ancient legal jargon and agreements that seemed forged in friendship, but knowing his family, it couldn't have been anything more than a ploy. At least, at first. Or maybe the former heads thought they'd be able to wriggle their way out of it; They succeeded, after all. The debt no longer belonged to the family, but to Kaede. And now here he was, no doubt soon to embark on a mission to the ruins of the estate and pick it clean as if a vulture, carrion vermin to a corpse. He closed his eyes for a time, setting his jaw and wrinkling his nose.
"It doesn't make any sense for anyone in my family to sign a treaty unless marriage is involved. The only treaties I was aware of until now were made in time for certain weddings over the centuries - this should have been filed away in the same place," he went on, bitterly annoyed at his ancestors and the more recently departed. For a clan obsessed with keeping records of everything... Sabotage, but who? A great-grandfather? Grandmother? The one his would-be father was named after, Zenchou? But that name wasn't anywhere on the treaty that he could see, so perhaps he was one of the few who disagreed?
"You'll need to give me more information. This isn't enough. I can't read a lot of this and there's no description of the Mourning Star. I can tell you I know where it might be, if it exists, but I'll need to know what it looks like - 'cause it's not just a morningstar, is it?" He re-scrolled the treaty, careful as not to damage it further. Bristly as he was, it's not like he was trying to be rude. "If you want it, you can have it. I have no use for it."
"I'm not surprised you don't know of the treaty, it seems your family as a whole forgot about it a long time ago, too, or they decided to ignore it."
Jin hands Kaede a rolled up scroll, one that, once unraveled, would bear both the Shikibane family seal, and another, presumably belonging to Jin. The contents of the scroll go onto describe some sort of agreement or 'union' between Jin and one of Kaede's Sengoku-era ancestors, the result of which required a specific Cursed Tool, apparently named 'Mourning Star (喪 星)', to be given to him in exchange.
"The Mourning Star was never delivered; from what I gather, there were a few individuals in your family who objected to the treaty," Jin remembered the Shikibane clan to be quite torn over the idea of associating with someone like him at the time, actually, with the idea spurring a great deal of contention, far more than he hinted at, "and even after all was signed and done, one of those busybodies stole Mourning Star and sealed it away in some secret vault."
Jin, after taking a few steps toward the shoji that led to the balcony, waves a hand toward it, a faint gust of wind sliding it open. Jin then steps outside and pulls a cigarette out from his coat, which he lights and begins smoking from in-between his words to Kaede.
"It was no great loss at the time, and for the last few centuries I was willing to let sleeping dogs lie, but recently I find myself in need of the tool, and I think its finally time to collect. Seeing this through could be beneficial to us both, though, perhaps even more to you than I."
