Jan-Pro Selected a 2011 “50 Top Franchises for Minorities"
NMFI Selects 50 Top Franchises for Minorities
OAKLAND, CA (November 4, 2011) - The National Minority Franchising Initiative (NMFI) has compiled its annual list of the “50 Top Franchises for Minorities.” The results were featured in the November 4, 2011 issue of USA TODAY in the Franchising Today section. A copy of the article with the list of the Top 50 franchises can be found here.
The NMFI selected 50 franchisors from hundreds of companies requesting evaluation for inclusion in the article. There was no cost to participate in the survey. The only constraint was that franchisors had to have in excess of 50 operating units. Each participating franchisor was required to submit a completed questionnaire. The questionnaire noted the number (both absolute and as a percentage of the total number) of operating units owned by minorities, as well as the number of minorities in senior management that earned over $60,000 per year. (For a copy of the questionnaire, click here.)
“The steady increase in  minority representation in franchising over the last several years is very encouraging,” stated Rob Bond, founder of NMFI. “It certainly is evidence of minorities’ intrinsic values and work ethic. In addition, franchisors continue to make a concerted effort to reach out to minorities, which is ultimately highly beneficial in the long run to all parties involved.”
For a more complete list of franchise systems that wish to increase their minority representation, please go to www.MinorityFranchising.com. The site lists over 500 companies committed to recruiting and supporting minorities, as well as resources that are essential to the evaluation process. The site represents an effective and cost-efficient tool for franchisors to increase minority representation within their systems. The National Minority Franchising Initiative (NMFI) was a program launched by World Franchising Network (WFN) in 2000 to level the playing field and meet the needs of a largely under-represented market.
The World Franchising Network, which manages the www.MinorityFranchising.com website, also has 15 other websites focusing on franchising. To learn more about the World Franchising Network, please click here for our 2012 Media Brochure.

Why Do Commercial Cleaning Clients Cancel Accounts?
Losing a commercial cleaning account is never a fun experience, but it is your job as the owner to figure out what went wrong. There are many reasons commercial cleaning clients cancel accounts:
performance is sub par
lack of communication
theft
client went out of business
client is relocating outside your area
client is going to in-house cleaning
client is going with another cleaning company for personal reasons
These are just a few of the reasons you may lose a client. There are some things you can do nothing about, such as a client going out of business or relocating outside your area. But there is something you can do about sub par performance and lack of communication. First, review your quality control procedures if performance is the issue. Make sure all employees understand the cleaning specifications, and make sure the supervisors are following up according to your standard. Clients have little patience for a cleaning company that offers subpar service. You need to make a concerted effort to communicate with your clients. If lack of communication is the reason for losing the account, it could be that your client just wanted to hear from you more often. Communicating with your clients regularly is often more important to them than the quality of the service; especially if you resolve concerns immediately. If you address the reasons you lost the account and take steps to correct the problem, cancellations should be a rare occurrence. If you lost the account due to no fault of your own, stay in touch with the former client. You may be able to win them back over time. What are some of the reasons you've lost accounts? What did you do to win them back?

To see a janitor laboring with a heavy cotton string mop, dipped periodically in a bucket of frothy brown water, only to be slapped down upon the floor once again in order to "clean" it, is enough to turn the stomach of most building service contractors. Dirty mops just don't clean floors. Using microfiber mops that have been soaked in small buckets of solution and changed out for each room cleaned are effective at picking up debris while preventing cross-contamination. Use of these mop heads, which are washed after each use, is becoming the status quo.

In team cleaning, a four-member team is comprised of a light-duty specialist, a vacuum specialist, a restroom specialist and an utilities specialist. The vacuum specialist follows behind the light-duty specialist and vacuums high traffic areas as well as furniture and underneath office waste receptacles. To accomplish these tasks, cleaning providers need a machine that allows the user to maneuver around obstacles and that is why a backpack vacuum is the equipment of choice. Backpack vacuums are worn on the back (or sometimes the hip) with a harness and feature a body with a hose and wand. They provide the greatest amount of mobility among vacuums and allow the user to simply walk and vacuum. They are well-suited for cleaning hard floors, cubicles, classrooms, edging and hard-to-reach areas.

Jan-Pro Cleaning Systems named Top 50 Franchise by USA Today
Jan-Pro Cleaning Systems Leadership Position Remains Solid, as the Company is Selected for 3 New Top Recognitions
nnovative product and system introductions like Jan-Pro’s unique EnviroShield Disinfectant System, have consistently earned the Jan-Pro Brand a top ranking among franchises. The newest awards topping Jan-Pro’s list include being named a “Top 50 Franchise for Military Veterans,” a “Military Friendly Franchise,” and a “Top Franchise for 2011” overall.
Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) May 04, 2011
Jan-Pro International, Inc. (Jan-Pro), an established global leader in commercial cleaning, today graciously accepted the newest of its top business rankings - being named in USA Today as a “Top 50 Franchise for Military Veterans,“ being chosen as a “Military Friendly Franchise” by GI Jobs, and being selected as a “Top Franchise for 2011” overall, a highly-acclaimed honor bestowed by industry experts Franchise Business Review.
Unique product introductions and a history of firsts define the leadership character of the Jan-Pro Brand. One example is the recent launch of Jan-Pro’s exclusive EnviroShield disinfectant system, a system that delivers 100% disinfectant coverage. Well-followed in the international press, EnviroShield has become a high-demand product, one only available from Jan-Pro.
“The Jan-Pro EnviroShield Disinfectant System is a great example of a unique product that leads the way in the commercial cleaning industry,” said Rich Kissane, President & CEO, Jan-Pro. “It’s part of the Jan-Pro Brand’s total commitment to leadership, which includes our dedication to new product innovation, our strong support system for each Jan-Pro business, and solutions that offer important benefits to customers. We feel this combination really does make a difference.”
Kissane was especially proud of the recent Top 50 Military Award, presented by the World Franchising Network, who selected Jan-Pro from hundreds of companies offering business opportunities to veterans. To be named a Top 50 winner, Jan-Pro demonstrated a significant number of operating units owned by veterans, as well as a high number of veterans in senior management earning over $60,000 per year. Additionally, Jan-Pro offers these veterans zero-interest financing.
“All of us at Jan-Pro recognize and support our country’s servicemen and women for their sacrifices and dedication,” said Kissane. “It is our extreme pleasure to welcome our vets back into the business world with a proven successful business opportunity, coupled with the financial incentive to help them achieve success.”
Jan-Pro recently celebrated its 20th anniversary as a leader in Commercial Cleaning – the company currently stands alone in this category, with over 11,000 worldwide franchisees, and a presence in 7 countries. It’s no wonder the Jan-Pro International business leadership awards have become a hallmark of the Jan-Pro Brand.

How Can School Systems Say No to this Franchise's Product?
Oct 29, 2010 - I would imagine that being a school administrator these days is pretty high on the stressful jobs meter. A lot of school systems have serious money problems. Extracurricular programs get cut, and sometimes essential school services like busing have to be revamped. Parents get angry about these cuts, and they attend and loudly participate in school board meetings only to become fodder for local news stations.
There are a couple of things that school administrators and parents can agree on. The first thing is that kids need to stay in school. The ways that can be accomplished will always be the subject of debate, but that’s ok. The second thing is that kids need to be in a safe environment while they’re learning. (In addition to safety concerns in school, if they use transportation supplied by the school system, their safety has to addressed there, too.)
One franchise system has come up with a way to keep kids in school, and keep them safe while they’re in school, and while they’re on school busses.
Jan-Pro Systems, a commercial cleaning franchise out of Alpharetta, Georgia, recently signed an exclusive Agreement with EnviroSystems, Inc. (ESI), to offer a disinfecting product that helps fight harmful bacteria, including deadly MRSA. But, what’s so important about MRSA?
According to MRSA Survivors Network, more Americans die annually from invasive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) Infections than from HIV/AIDS, H1N1 influenza and Parkinson's disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has an entire area on their website devoted to MRSA, including one just for school officials.
(Interestingly enough, I have a child attending her first year of high school, and I’ve never heard of MRSA. Maybe the MRSA Survivors Network needs some help with their PR.)
So, now that you know a little about MRSA, let’s see what Jan-Pro is doing:
“Jan-Pro's EnviroShield Spray Disinfecting System offers high performance like nothing else available, in that the system combines a safe and efficacious disinfectant with an electrostatic sprayer. The sprayer nozzle adds an electrostatic negative charge to the disinfecting solution as it is applied, so that it actually surrounds and clings to the surface it touches.
The disinfecting agent used in the EnviroShield system is a product called EnviroTru(R), a multi-purpose disinfectant and deodorizing cleaner that meets all EPA requirements for Toxicity Category IV (no harmful dermal, ocular, inhalation or ingestion effects). Environmentally safe, EnviroTru requires no special handling, does not require protective clothing, gloves or special ventilation or biohazard disposal, is non-flammable, and poses no health risks or side effects.”
Press releases can be great resources for up to the minute announcements. They’re great marketing tools, also. Dare I say that they can be a little “fluffy,” sometimes?
If you’re anything like me, you like to see proof. Here it is:
“In Northeast Ohio, top-rated Solon Public Schools, known as one of the country’s leading school systems, is at the forefront of combating infectious disease.”
Now, I didn’t know that, (and I happen to live near Solon, Ohio) but, let’s continue, because I promised you proof.
“We use the Jan-Pro EnviroShield Disinfecting System in classrooms, locker rooms, and on our buses as a preventative, proactive measure to fight the many infections kids can pick up,” said Tom Stupica, Assistant Superintendent. “This disinfectant is powerful, and the electrostatic spray locks to surfaces, and reaches hard to get areas. Since we’ve gone to this disinfecting system, we’ve had no outbreaks of sickness, and that’s a statistic we’re very proud of at Solon.”
Now, that’s powerful stuff. (Both the disinfectant, and the fact that there’s been no sickness reported since the new system from Jan-Pro was implemented.)
I also learned that Jan-Pro is supplying this product to Cleveland State University, which has just completed construction of new residence halls and a recreation center. That sounds like a real nice account for the local franchise owner of Jan-Pro.
It seems that Jan-Pro has found an innovative, spray-on way to help kids stay in school, and stay healthy. This is great news for school systems, nationwide.
Have you ever heard of MRSA? Are you concerned about it?

Want to buy a franchise? Do your homework!
Earlier this month Terrell and Nancy Dillard were interviewed by Black Enterprise Magazine for an article in the April 2011 issue. The article discusses in length the importance of investigating and researching franchise organizations before investing.
The couple contacted a broker and a lawyer to help them through the "legalese" of contracts. Eight years later they are generating more than $2.5 million in revenues because they "did their homework."
The Federal Trade Commission provides a free consumer guide to help you in your quest to becoming your own boss. It explains the benefits, costs, and responsibilities of owning a franchise. It also provides a list of questions you should ask regarding your investment, abilities, and outcome goals.
Another rich resource you should consider is the American Association of Franchisees & Dealer's LegaLine. This network will connect you with an experienced lawyer to help you understand the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) and Franchise Agreement Contracts.
While the internet is rich with information on how to conduct legal research, you should ask yourself what kind of an entrepreneur are you? Nancy says, "It's nice to know with franchising you're not reinventing the wheel." The article provides a nice chart asking "So, Are You In or Out?"
1-You're ready to attach yourself to and develop a known brand rather than building your own.
2-You're willing to follow another company's business model by the book with minimal to no deviation.
3-You're able to invest significant capital into the franchise up front, and you're able to commit to lengthy contract agreements.
Franchising is not always a guaranteed success, but doing the research and asking the hard questions increases your odds.
