Chapter should hopefully be up later today at some point, I’ve somehow managed to get an infection in my arm (from the tiniest most pathetic cut) but I’m hoping it improves soon 🙃🙃
It’s giving: charger from Left4Dead ✨

JohnDory and Clay hug it out in the newest chapter of Dereliction by @jellfishjellfish
Sometimes you might love your brother, but not like what they do or how they treat you. This chapter doesn’t see their problems solved, but I think their in the right path now
@jellfishjellfish I heard you’ve had a rough week, I hope it starts to turn around soon

What are the ages of the major characters as of chapter 33? By that, I mean BroZone and the Pop sisters.
So Branch is 7 (8 the next chapter it’s literally his Hatchday )
JD is 25
Floyd is 21 coming up to 22 soon
Poppy is 5
Viva is 19 (she was 15 during the tunnel collapse)
Clay is 23
Bruce is 24
I made the Brozone brothers (other than Branch) close in age, so the arrival of Branch all those years later was even more of a shock (they figured their parents had got all the child making out of the way, especially as they had the first four kids in a relatively short space of time)

I love your latest chapter, but there's something I don't get. Why was Clay so shocked when JD said, "I get you hate me?" I got the impression he knew he was being a jerk to John, so I don't understand why he's so surprised that John believes he doesn't care about him. If someone is being nothing but a complete a-hole to someone else, common sense says that person resents you.
I think (in my mind anyway) that Clay is very very angry. Bordering on hate sometimes, but he doesn’t truly hate JD. It’s hard to hate someone you love, even if they’ve done bad things. And he was very much of the opinion that JD let things slide more than he did, that he wasn’t affected by Clay’s words or actions because he never did before. Well he was affected, but he’s never let it show outwardly. So for JD to declare that Clay hates him as fact, it was a realisation to Clay that JD has been taking things to heart more than he realised, and he thinks he hates him which…well he never wanted that. JD has always been this larger than life untouchable figure, so for him to confess how he’s really feeling was a wake up call to say the least.
I don’t think I’m explaining it very well! 😭

This is incredible, he looks so cute! And yes, obviously nothing else happened this chapter, nothing bad at all!! 😇
A cute little sketch of the bestest littlest bittiest B from @jellfishjellfish’s Dereliction
In the newest chapter Branch happily eats a lemon and that’s all that happens of note. Yup. Everything else is fine

Love the most recent chapter not enough people capture the fact that Clay is objectively kinda an asshole especially to JD. Like as much as Clay has good reasons too be angry he has little awareness of the time and place to start a fight with someone. Like Clay in cannon started shit with John Dory about him being overly focused of performing the perfect family harmony when Floyd’s life was dependent on them performing the perfect family harmony. That scene alone shows that Clay is almost fundamentally incapable of putting aside his anger or issues with a person even temperamentally when it’s a life and death situation he has the inherent need to prove his point right here right now the second something bothers him and you captured that character flaw of him very well.
Thank you!! I know some people might feel like I’m playing into the whole ‘Clay is the asshole problem child’ shtick, but it’s like you said, I feel like for someone to react like how he did in the film it would only be more prominent if less time passed. I’m giving him some legitimate reasons for his anger, but he’s not had a real outlet for it or any focus (or need) for self-reflection so far. He was too busy surviving at the golf course, trying to come across as serious and mature. Unlike John who’s been having therapy and who had those years alone where he did a lot of reflecting, Clay’s thoughts just festered. He just hasn’t considered that John might be anything but his infallible asshole older brother, because JD never showed any weakness before. He’s a complicated character for sure :)

Lots of people write clay with anger issues because of being put into the box of being a “fun boi” as a child but what if it’s the other way around what if clay got shoved into the fun boi box because he had anger issues and the PR team decided it was best if fans thought clay was joking and sarcastic and not just a rude ass of a 10 year old. A real chicken and the egg situation.
Oooh I like this idea a lot actually! It doesn’t work so well in Dereliction, because the source of Clay’s anger in it is rooted in thinking that he had to change to fully embody the ‘fun boy’ to the point where he assumed that John Dory didn’t actually like the real him. Any time he showed any level of depth, it was shot down to save his image, and over time it built up until he felt such a degree of hatred for himself it was hard to hide.
But I like the idea of him being overly sassy and quick to anger so they work his persona around that, like if ‘he’s just joking!’ Were a full on personality :)

UR WRITING IS SO GOOD!
I adore the way dereliction is done ,how branches trauma is portrayed , and I am SOOOOOOOOO excited for future broppy in this au
Thank you!! I mean, the broppy js going to take a while to get to, but I do miss writing romance :’) right now we’re in the thick of the trauma so 😭
(And I’m evil, so there’s going to be more trauma added as the story progresses…the Bergens are still around after all 🙃)
