Money-saving sustainability tips
Implementing small sustainability lifestyle changes can save you money while the changes also help the planet, making them a double win. Ā Here are a few ideas to get you started.Ā  If you look at your daily activities, Iā€™m sure you will find a lot more.Ā
Shop the ā€œlast chanceā€ section in the grocery store.Ā  These are reduced-price items that are nearing their use-by date but are still good.Ā  Buying them saves you money and keeps the wasted food out of the landfill.Ā  Donā€™t buy more than you can eat and have a plan for using leftovers.Ā
In summer, set the thermostat one or two (or more) degrees higher.Ā  In winter, set the thermostat one or two (or more) degrees lower.Ā  These changes save energy, which always saves money.
Use it up, wear it out, or repurpose it.Ā
On hot summer days, keep the window shades or curtains closed on the sunny side of the house to help keep the heat out.Ā  In winter, close window shades at night and on the shady side of the house to help keep heat inside.Ā  Keeping the window shades open on the sunny side of the house in winter lets the solar energy help warm the house.Ā
Unplug electronics and chargers when not in use.Ā  Even while turned off, many electronic items draw small amounts of power.Ā
Electric clothes dryers use an average of 6 percent of a householdā€™s energy.Ā  Air dry clothing or hang it outside to dry when possible.Ā  I frequently dry clothing on low heat for just a few minutes to remove the wrinkles and start the drying process before I air dry the clothes.Ā  When you do use the clothes dryer, it takes less energy to dry a load for a longer time at a low temperature than it does to dry a load at a high temperature for a shorter period of time.

this is purely for fun and I've certainly been guilty of a few of these things myself in my years of fic writing. don't be weird in the notes and don't use this as an excuse to insult someone's writing.

Iā€™ll never forget the time I was sitting with this guy, nice kid, didnā€™t know him well, I think we must have had a bottle of wine or some questionable hashish or something, and in response to an awkward silence I just started talking and ended up going on a long meandering rant about how ugly American robins are. Iā€™m talking a full monologue. I had an intro and conclusion. It was pointlessly vehement. I have never been so mean or loquacious about anything in my life.
Consider my horror when this perfectly nice guy wordlessly lifted his shirt to reveal a full-torso prismacolor tattoo of his spiritual soul animal, the American robin.
