‘What have you learned from watching your performance?’

First of all Nick will always be the funniest of the Monkeys for me, he’s just so effortlessly funny. He fully predicted the way Alex performs now with the facial expressions, the foot on the monitor and the back bends.

Secondly, the thought of Alex watching the Apollo performance they are talking about and cringing at his own stage banter between songs makes me feel a bit sad. Because he’s so sweet and funny during that show! And people during ‘The Car’ tour complained a lot about his lack of crowd interaction and I feel like that’s probably because in the back of his mind he’s constantly thinking about whether he’s talking too much.

"so many great songs have been written here and this is a really great one @ arcticmonkeys the jeweler's hands.i still have a lot of handwritten original lyrics from any band that is cool enough to leave them here for me. i love hearing the @ bechstein.official piano on this track, and all others it appears on. it's my favorite piano sound in the world. fred and i bought it at @ shop_angelview thrift store after @ vicwillums found it and suggested we buy it to record it on her album she was readying to record here, musings of a creek dipper. our friend, the extremely talented and awesome @ trinashoemaker produced and engineered it.. i couldn't be happier that many find this little house in the desert inspiring. i know i have since the first day i walked through the door. love to all"

just like. fucking ruminating in the implication of that moment in the zane interview from 2022 where he asks alex if he still plays guitar much nowadays and alex answers facetiously "yeah almost every night now" which zane takes earnestly as a genuine sweet answer (and i did too, honestly, the first time i saw it, just picturing him sitting at home strutting away at the acoustic guitar) but then he's like "no no i meant like. in front of people" bc oof what a fucking insane way to phrase that. he didn't say "now that we're on tour" or "you know, since we've been doing shows." he doesn’t even say "i've been playing FOR people." the first thing that fucking pops in his head to explain his thought is that he's been playing IN FRONT of people. like putting himself out there, being watched. having to perform and be perceived. i am here doing my thing, put in this position to be seen by the people there looking at me doing my thing
