CHARACTER PROFILE:
[At least] 3 Headcanons for your character: [TW: Drug use, TW: Druge Overdose, TW: Death] Austin’s early years had not been easy. His mother was an addict and he spent his first 13 years in and out of different foster and group homes, occasionally going home with her until she fell back off the wagon. Things changed more permanently though when his mother overdosed when he was 13 years old and he was yet again placed in a new home. Despite Austin’s chronic bad attitude this one stuck and he became a member of the Rose family. It was never made official, as they needed the foster benefits, but Millie Rose, and his new foster sister Marley, loved him in a way no one had before. And although it took time and patience, they managed to break down some of the walls Austin had worked so hard to keep up.
College felt like an impossibility by the time Austin graduated. Technically, he was all on his own, and as much as Millie would’ve loved to help him, she didn’t have the funds for it. He wasn’t exactly a stellar student or into sports, so scholarships weren’t really an option. He could’ve looked into financial aid, of course, but being the stubborn mule he was, he decided to forego it and get a job waiting tables.
That only lasted for a couple years though before he decided this wasn’t the life he wanted. He wanted to make something for himself and he was willing to put the work in. After some research and some help from a counselor at the school, Austin started taking courses at the local community college.
That’s where he met Carter Grant. It was an immediate case of opposite’s attracting. Carter was calm and thoughtful where Austin was impulsive and action oriented. Carter was confident and social where Austin was unsure and untrusting. Carter was exactly who Austin needed. And with Carter’s encouragement, Austin decided to go on and try to get his Bachelor’s degree.
On Austin’s 21st birthday, they were married, neither of them seeing the point in waiting when life was meant to be lived after all. He’s currently working as a bartender at The Flame to help pay for his tuition that financial aid couldn’t cover.

Keegan is Quinn’s fraternal twin brother and is younger by 10 minutes, meaning his is both the youngest of the Fabray family and the only male child.
Being a naturally shy boy in a family of far more outgoing (and generally higher achieving) girls made it difficult for Keegan to get the same kind of attention from his parents growing up that Quinn and Frannie had. This issue only grew more relevant as the children grew older and reached its breaking point when Frannie and Quinn began pushing away from fitting the ‘perfect daughter’ molds that Judy and Russell (but mostly Judy) had spent numerous years attempting to squeeze them into. As the pushback between the women grew, Keegan became Judy’s ear to rant to. For all of his formative years, he was forced to internalize every ‘mistake’ that either of his sisters made--all while still being physically and emotionally neglected himself.
When he grew a bit older, Keegan attempted to use the knowledge of what Judy saw in a perfect child as a way to become just that. Slowly he evolved out of being the curious, creative, and bubbly albeit quiet child he naturally was and instead did everything in his power to become Judy’s idea of perfect. He would devote all his waking hours to excelling at school (especially mathematics) to a level that was unheard of in their small-ish hometown, he never had any romantic relationship or expressed any romantic interest of any kind, and--most importantly--he became completely devoted to his Roman Catholic faith, taking every word as gospel--even the ones that led to his own personal detriment. However, even while parading as ‘perfect’ in every way, Keegan was still overshadowed by the drama of his sisters straying from their given paths. Not one to give up, however, this only prompted Keegan to double down even harder.
Keegan was originally accepted to Saint Damasus University--an all-male private Roman Catholic college just a few hours away in Columbus, Ohio--and finished his full first year and most of his first Sophomore semester of schooling there. But after an incident at a non-sanctioned school party, he quickly dropped everything and transferred to Joie.

What made you want to attend Joie University? “I knew that my older sister Francesca went here. But Joie offering an advanced applied mathematics major is also a plus.”
What are at least 3 positive or neutral and at least 3 negative traits that you believe you possess? “I know that many people would consider me shy, which they also would probably see as negative... I’m also not the mostly likely person to stand up for myself, nor do I always speak my mind as openly as I probably should. But, above all else, I always strive to be a good person. And, frankly, I feel that there’s nothing more important or positive than that. I’m also well-versed when it comes to academics and cooking.”
Which of your traits do you value most? “That I strive to be a good person. I’m not perfect. ...Very far from it, actually... but I try. Every waking hour of every day. And I feel that matters.”
How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? “Well... being a good person requires being good to other people. And they say that that is contagious is the best type of way.”
What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU? “Above all else, a degree. Everything else is secondary.”

What made you want to attend Joie University? The fact that it was halfway across the globe was certainly enticing. What an adventure to be had, am I right?
What are at least 3 positive or neutral and at least 3 negative traits that you believe you possess? I believe myself to be ambitious, intelligent, and confident. I suppose I can also be impulsive, stubborn, and sarcastic.
Which of your traits do you value most? My ambition. There are so many things to be done in this world and I believe I can make a difference.
How can that trait benefit the University (or its student body) as a whole? I would imagine the university would want to have students who are determined to make a difference in the world
What do you hope to gain from your experience at JU? Learning more about a brand new country, it’s history, and it’s people.

Luke had been a very shy child growing up, quiet and unsure of himself. He’d followed his older brother around wherever he went, always observing. His family was always incredibly tight knit, constantly looking out for him and encouraging him to come out of his shell in any way they could.
By the time he started secondary school though, kids had become crueler, often teasing him for his quiet nature. It got to the point where it simply drove him to change. He worked hard to practically become a new person, faking new found confidence until one day it just became a part of him. It didn’t hurt that puberty was kind to him. His good looks and brand new demeanor had guys and girls alike pining for him, which only served to boost his confidence even more.
Now that he’s grown, many people would even consider him fairly cocky. He’s a major flirt and no longer afraid to speak his mind. But there’s still a big heart of gold underneath it all that a select few get to experience.
He’s always wanted to explore the world as much as he could. So when the opportunity to attend university in the US came to him, he quickly took advantage of it. He hoped it could lead to even more adventures in his future.

Good Morning, Thunderclaps!
Friendly reminder that if you are a Fall 2021 graduate, your Professors will have your final grades posted by today (if they haven’t already)! Congradulations on a wonderful final semster!
And, Seniors, once you’ve made sure that you’ve accumulated your necessary credits to graduate, please don’t forget to stop by the Provosts’ House to pick up your tickets for graduation! The limit is 10 tickets per student, so make sure you bring your Thundercard. On Wednesday, any tickets that have not been picked up will be given out to whoever would like them on a first come, first serve basis, so don’t dilly-dally!
As an additional reminder, please remember that Joie’s 2021 Commencement will be next Friday, May 28th at 7PM at the Beiste lacrosse stadium. (All participating seniors should prepare to arrive by 6.15 to line up!)
