Me and my friend had a brainstorm on what animals could MCs friends be if they also became animagi
And we came to a conclusion that it would be fitting and kinda ironic if Chiara was a little lamb
Wolf in sheep’s clothing
Or more like, a sheep forced into wolf hide or whatever

Wow...
I’ve literally been a ghost on here because I just looked at my ask box and I could only imagine how far back these messages go. I’m embarrassed...
So sorry for everyone I didn’t answer. It wasn’t on purpose, I promise 😭🥺

Hello! So, just out of curiosity hehe, whatchu think about the adult models for the characters in hphm (esp. birdboy)?
I've been a ghost on here...
The wonky ankle and the hands definitely brought out a snort (something I rarely do), but hopefully, that would be fixed. Jokes have been made about his haircut, but I think it could grow on me. Adult Talbott is still handsome regardless (even though Andre could still argue to Judith that her partner has no fashion taste whatsoever. She will continue not to comment since that's and Andre and Talbott's problem. Not a her problem).

The legacies people leave behind in you.
My handwriting is the same style as the teacher’s who I had when I was nine. I’m now twenty one and he’s been dead eight years but my i’s still curve the same way as his.
I watched the last season of a TV show recently but I started it with my friend in high school. We haven’t spoken in four years.
I make lentil soup through the recipe my gran gave me.
I curl my hair the way my best friend showed me.
I learned to love books because my father loved them first.
How terrifying, how excruciatingly painful to acknowledge this. That I am a jigsaw puzzle of everyone I have briefly known and loved. I carry them on with me even if I don’t know it. How beautiful.

After a hectic two weeks of work, this was exactly what I needed on my day off and to kickstart my long weekend.
This was so sweet mate 🥲💛, I’m glad that Judith was able to soothe her goddaughter/niece. And I know she would’ve soothed David and Merula’s worries about their daughter by personally carrying for her. Love this dynamic 💛
And as far as being fussed over… she’s not wrong lol. Judith does it with everyone she loves, even her father when he’s being a stubborn git 🤣 she had her maternal instincts from a young age for a reason
Day 2 - Knowledge is Power
Day 2 of @cursebreakerfarrier‘s Back to School challenge. Maybe an odd take on it but any angst is due to her love for flying. Judith Harris belongs to @judediangelo75

A Thousand Times
Hi 💛
This is another Kendrick Lives AU installment. I have yet to post anything gearing towards Kendrick (I have something in the works, I promise.) But thanks to @that-scouse-wizard for being interested in this AU, I was able to build how the Talith would begin.
So it’s gonna be kind of similar to the First Date TLSQ but with some changes thrown in.
MC Friend: David Willows ( @that-scouse-wizard )
(Bro, this has been sitting in my drafts for FOUR MONTHS. Writer’s block is the devil, but I’m happy to finish this piece. Now for the other drafts glaring at me.)
Hope you guys like it!
----------------------------------------------
Talbott quietly snuck into the empty Charms classroom, holding an envelope and single hibiscus flower.
He’s been playing “secret admirer” for some time now to a certain Hufflepuff witch.
Judith Harris.
One of the infamous Curse Breakers at Hogwarts. The other half of the dynamic duo Tigress and Hound, Hufflepuff’s feared Beaters on the Quidditch Pitch. A girl with the controversial scar that everyone can’t seem to stop whispering about.
Talbott has heard about her long before he met her. It was hard not to, seeing how everyone in school loves to gossip about something.
When he met her for the first time, he had to hold back a wince when taking a good look at her scar. He’s heard different stories about how she got it.
Most common was that she was born with it or found herself in an angry dragon’s nest somehow.
Other than that, nobody really knows.
But he knew that the time, it had to be painful beyond words.
Other than her scar, Talbott thought she was rather pretty. Beautiful if he was being true to his feelings.
Something about her pale gold eyes spoke to his heart, even if he was adamant about keeping his distance from her.
As he got to know the Hufflepuff, he found himself intrigued by her. He never thought he would encounter a person with a heart of gold despite the pain and rejection they received.
He even rejected her offer of help when Merula snuck up on her, David, and himself. The blatant hurt in her eyes is something he would never forget.
But she didn’t give up on him. Helping him learn the Memory Charm in attempt to get Merula to forget what she heard.
Even going as far to help him to find his necklace.
He was able to call her his friend...
Until recently.
Not too long ago, the Celestial Ball was the latest buzz that overtook the castle. Everyone was eager to find a date to accompany them. Talbott didn’t think much of it at the time.
Until he saw Judith in Andre’s arms.
He was in his Animagus form, only wanting to observe the dance until he spotted her. Talbott remembered feeling like his breath was stolen from his lungs when he saw the painfully shy Hufflepuff at the refreshment table.
Her dress was a deep red and white. It hugged her upper body like a glove while the skirt flared out at the hips. There was a slit in the left side of the dress, showing off her toned leg. The sleeves were off the shoulder, revealing a lot more skin Talbott is used to seeing from her. Gold heeled shoes can be seen on her feet. Her signature accessories can be found on her ears with a simple gold heart necklace was around her neck.
Her locs were curled, framing her delicate face perfectly. Her face was make up free.
Even with her unsure sips of her goblet, her hunched shoulders, and a small frown on her full lips, Talbott found her endearing.
Until Andre popped up, asking for the next dance.
Which so happened to be a slow dance.
The ugly twisted feeling that settled in his chest didn’t feel right as he watch the two share hushed whispers to each other. All he could think of was,
‘That should be me...’
He wanted to be the one holding her close. The one looking into those mystical eyes while sharing hushed whispers. To feel her hand clashed in his own, establishing an intimate connection that only the two of them could feel...
It was in that moment that he couldn’t see Judith as a friend anymore.
But he felt scared to come out and say it. So he resorted to this.
Just as he was about to leave the note and flower at the spot Judith always sat at, someone walked in.
David Willows. Judith’s closest friend.
The Hufflepuff wizard looked surprised to see Talbott there. More importantly what was in his hand.
David was aware of Judith having a secret admirer. It was hard not to, seeing how the girl would have a flower tucked behind one of her ears and she would be smiling down at a piece of paper with a blush.
It’s rare for Judith to turn into a giggling school girl. So David found it a bit strange, but overall happy for his mate.
Though, it didn’t squash his curiosity on who could be this mysterious admirer.
Guess he found out the answer to his own...
There was a tense silence between the two wizards. Talbott felt his face flush and blurted out the first thing that came to mind,
“This isn’t what it looks like.” Brown eyes narrowed out of suspicion.
“So it is what it looks like,” he countered, slowly backing out of the classroom. First thing that came to mind was to find his little friend and tell her about her secret admirer.
Who may not be really an “admirer” based on his response...
“David, wait,” Talbott called out, feeling a sense of panic building. The Hufflepuff wizard paused, waiting for him to continue.
“L-Look, I-I... that’s not what I meant. I would never do anything to hurt Judith, if that’s what you’re thinking. I...” An arch brow could be found on David’s face as he watched Talbott trail off. The Ravenclaw wizard swallowed briefly before forcing the words out before he could think about them too hard,
“I really like Judith and would like to take her out on a date.” Both brows inched closer to his hairline as David silently processed the confession. Talbott fidgeted under the Hufflepuff’s unwavering gaze, waiting for him to say something.
He never confessed his feelings for the Hufflepuff outwardly before. The only other person knows about his feelings was his best (and infuriating) mate, Andre. And that was only because he got ahold of Talbott’s journal where he wrote about the girl and saw the few sketches he drew of her.
“So do it.” Red eyes blinked.
“T-that’s it? I don’t even know how to ask! I never even been on a date before,” he exclaimed, feeling the panic come back full force. David’s gaze soften ever so slightly.
“Just approach her gently and ask if she’d like to go out somewhere. Maybe to the Three Broomsticks or even the Owlery if you fancy somewhere more private,” he advised. Talbott mulled over David’s words silently, already having a place in mind.
“...That could work... Thank you David,” Talbott responded softly. David gave the Ravenclaw wizard an encouraging smile.
“You’re welcome, Tal. Now, go get her.”
---------------------------
Talbott was standing the empty Courtyard, sweating under his class robes. He sent his owl to Judith, asking her to meet him during lunch. He knew for a fact it’ll be empty so they’ll have some privacy.
The longer he waited, the more he could feel his heart start to pound in his chest.
That’s when he saw her stepping out into the Courtyard. Talbott quickly wiped his sweaty palms against his slacks as Judith approached.
He could spy the hibiscus flower tucked behind her scarred ear.
‘Good Gods, she’s so beautiful...’
“Hello Talbott,” the girl greeted softly. A small shiver rang down his spine as he heard her voice. He was always interested in hearing her voice, especially with her accent. It was quite clear that she’s not originally from Scotland, or Britain for that matter. However the uniqueness of her voice wasn’t the only thing that captured his interest.
The young teenager couldn’t put his finger on it but he swears he heard that accent somewhere before but can’t figure out where.
“Hello, Judith... thanks for meeting me,” he said. Judith nodded, causing her high ponytail to sway behind her.
“Of course, Talbott. You mentioned in your note that you had something important to ask me,” she said.
‘Moment of truth... there’s no turning back now, Winger...’
“Um, yes... I-I was wondering... W-Would you like to go out on a date with me?” Judith’s good eye widen sufficiently.
“Wha...” Talbott sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.
“I-I wanted to get your attention... why I was leaving you flowers and notes,” he confessed. He watched as Judith looked around the area as if she was looking for someone to jump out at any moment. He coughed into his fist to gain the Hufflepuff’s attention again.
“S-so... would you like to go out with m-me, little bird?” Judith could feel her face turning red with each passing second.
‘Talbott is my secret admirer... this is really happening...’
“I-I would love to... if you’re sure,” she said, ducking her head. Talbott felt his body move on autopilot, taking her chin in hand to raise her eyes to meet his.
“I’m positive, little bird,” he whispered, giving her soft smile. He was rewarded with one of her own.
Unknown to the two, another person was spying on this interaction. David smirked, sketching the moment to pester the two love birds later on...
-----------------------------
“WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST GET MYSELF INTO,” Judith shouted as she paced about the empty Hufflepuff Common Room.
Well, almost empty.
David was sitting on the couch with a small smirk on his face. Judith didn’t even need to tell him what happened that is causing her to having a mini breakdown.
After all, he seen them himself...
“What in the seven hells are you smirking for?! I’m in the middle of a crisis, you git!” David snapped out of when he caught the glare in his little friend’s eyes. A small shiver of fear threaten to run down his spine but he held it back.
“Believe me I know, a little birdie told me.” As soon as those words left his mouth, he regretted it as pale gold eyes stared at him blankly.
“I’m sorry, mind repeating that?” Although that was worded as a request, David knew it was a demand. A demand he better fulfill in the next minute unless he wants to return to his assigned bed in the Hospital Wing.
“I... may have convinced Tal to ask you. And before you say anything, he wanted to before I suggested anything,” he rushed out. A few seconds ticked by before Judith broke the silence.
“WHAT?!” He winced as her shriek pierced his eardrums before replying,
“He came to me and I said he should go for it.” Judith resumed pacing, mumbling under her breath.
“Sweet Gods have mercy, there’s no way this is real. No wizard in his right mind would consider liking me without having some kind of motive. And I said yes like a lovestruck schoolgirl! What am I going to do, what am I going to do?! Maybe I shouldn’t show up, Talbott isn’t serious about taking me out on a date...”
David narrowed his eyes at the pacing witch before letting out a frustrated sigh. Standing up, he walks up to his anxious mate, placing his hands firmly on her shoulders to stop her pacing.
“Now you listen to me, Judith Harris. You’re fuckin’ gorgeous and a good person to the boot. I think that Tal is dead serious about wanting to take you out on a date, he’d be a fool not to. Give it a go and if it doesn’t work out, then that’s life. Also, if Tal really is bein’ an arsehole, I’ll kick his arse from here to London and back again.” Despite her best efforts, Judith ended up giggling a bit.
“You would know better not to send him to London. Papa would mount his head on a wall,” she said with a small head shake. David chuckled alongside her, grinning at the fact he could ease his little friend.
“There we go! I don’t doubt he would. Now come on, let’s get you ready for a date, yeah,” David said with an encouraging smile. Judith blushed a bit.
“Uh.. yeah, we can do that...”
“Good, let’s find Andre. And don’t worry, I’ll make sure he doesn’t put you something ridiculous.” Judith rolled her eyes at that.
“He should know better not to try. You wouldn’t survive between you, me, and my dad.” David gave a smirk.
“Exactly, now let’s go find that style wizard.” With newfound confidence, Judith beamed at her fellow House mate.
“Yeah, let’s go!”
-------------------
Andre was just putting the final touches on the last dress he created when he heard a whistle sound off behind him.
“Andre, we got a mission for you. First date emergency.” Andre smirked as he turned to find David and Judith standing behind him.
He stepped back and waved his hand with a flourish, showing off his work.
“Bold of you to assume I didn't see this coming when Talbott started waxing lyrical about asking Judith out,” he said with a chuckle.
“Am I the only one who hasn’t noticed,” Judith asked aloud, a blush staining her cheeks.
“Yes,” both males responded bluntly. They both received a glare for their sass.
“Just shut up and explain to me my options,” she hissed. Andre graced her with a gentle smile before clearing his throat.
“I have three dresses for you today, Judith. One sleeveless with a black and red rose pattern. The second green and long-sleeved with a purple lining at the bottom of the skirt. The last is purple and gold, almost like a ball gown. Take your pick,” he encouraged gently. The two males watched as the small witch carefully studied each dress with wary eyes.
“Just how formal is this date? Do either of you know,” she asked. She only wore a dress one other time and that was the Celestial Ball. The dress was beautiful, but she couldn’t help but feel weird in it.
Especially when the only other thing that was eye catching about her dress was her scar...
“Something smart casual I reckon,” David reckon, breaking the girl’s train of thought. Judith did one last glance over at her options before deciding.
“I don’t want to look like an idiot by showing up overdressed... I’ll go with the black and red one...” Andre grinned, as if he know that she would pick that one.
“Ah, my personal favorite! You’re look fantastic in it!” Judith scoffed as she took the dress and ducked behind the changing screen.
“I’ll believe it when I see it, Egwu. This dress screams, “Outside my comfort zone.”, she retorted as she stripped and wriggled into the dress. She could hear Andre chuckling.
“You’ll love it, I’m sure of it.” Judith struggled with the zipper before getting it on. She slowly stepped out to show the guys. Andre gave her a bright smile.
“You look lovely,” he complimented. David placed a hand on the style wizard’s shoulder, as if to hold him back.
“Let her be the judge of that Egwu. What d'you think Judith,” he asked his little friend. Judith shuffled in place, a dark blush on her cheeks.
“ I like it… a lot actually… you guys sure it’s not… too much,” she asked. The dress fitted her perfectly and ended right above the knee. It showed off her developing hourglass figure thanks to her religious training sessions and natural genes.
‘So much skin...’ she thought as she rubbed her arm.
“Looks perfect to me,” David said with a smile.
“You look fabulous,” Andre chimed in.
‘Well I have my votes of confidence...’
“I-I guess I’ll take it then,” she decided with a small head scratch. David gave her a small mischievous grin.
“Right now, Judith, go get your bird boy.” Judith could feel her face heat up further but she gave her House mate a thunderous glare.
“David...” David’s grin turned into a nervous one at her tone.
He knew it well.
The “I’ll break your kneecaps if you don’t stop right now” tone.
He quickly ran out the room while calling over his shoulder,
“Enjoy your date, Little Tigress!”
Judith pinched the bridge of nose, mentally counting backwards from 10.
“That bloody git,” she grumbled under her breath. Andre shrugged before letting out a laugh.
“Maybe, but I'd say he's right. Talbott has been looking forward to asking you out. Good luck Judith,” he said before leaving the room himself.
“T-Thanks again, Andre,” she called after him before she was officially left alone.
‘Talbott being obvious about his feelings? Hell must’ve frozen over. And I normally would notices things but I never saw this? Ugh, no time to think about it. I don’t wanna be late…’
------------------------------
Talbott was already at the date spot, nervously biting his lip as his looked at his watch for the umpteenth time.
‘I hope Judith has a good time. Damn it Winger, why did you have to fall so hard for her?’ he mentally cursed himself. He could already feel like his heart was going to beat out of his chest and his date wasn’t even there yet.
He wanted everything to be perfect for her...
Speaking of said witch, she was walking up the tea shop, taking in the site of where her first date will be.
‘I would have never thought Talbott would choose a place like this. It’s rather cute...’ she thought with a soft giggle. She could spy the Ravenclaw wizard standing inside, looking at his watch.
She drew in a deep breath before releasing it. Smoothing down her dress, she walked inside.
“H-Hey T-Talbott... I’m here, I-I hope I’m not late...” Talbott turned around to greet his date but felt the words die on the tip of his tongue.
‘Oh sweet Merlin, how the hell did I get so lucky...’ he thought as he took her in from her curled locs to her white sandals. He caught her shy shuffle before he realized he still had yet to say anything.
‘WORDS, WINGER! USE THEM!’
“H-Hi Judith, y-you look nice,” he greeted. He got a sweet blush and shy smile.
“T-Thank you, Talbott. Y-You look pretty smart yourself,” she said, trying to calm her beating heart.
Talbott cleared his throat, trying to ignore the fluttery feeling in his chest when he heard her compliment.
“Thank you, sh-shall we take a seat,” he offered.
‘Goddammit Winger, don't screw this up...’ Judith gifted him a gentle smile.
“Yes, of course,” she replied softly, walking past him to sit at the table near the window. The wizard was quick to follow, beating her to her chosen seat. Pulling out her chair, Talbott gave the Hufflepuff a shy smile. Judith stifled a giggle.
‘He’s so nervous, it’s adorable...’
“Such a gentleman, thank you,” she cooed at him as she took a seat. Talbott felt himself flush a bit as he pushed in her seat before claiming the one across from her.
“Tea and scones I believe are the most popular item here, shall we order some,” he asked, trying to soothe his nerves.
“Yes, that’s perfectly fine with me,” the young girl replied. Judith paused before a moment before speaking again.
“It’s nice to know there’s a little tea shop in Hogsmeade. Do you come here often?” Talbott rubbed the back of neck, sheepishly.
“Sometimes... it’s tucked away from the main street so it isn’t always busy... Besides, I didn’t want anyone interfering with our date.” Judith chuckled a bit.
“Well, aren’t you thoughtful,” she said with a smile. The high points of the wizard’s cheeks darken a bit before he cleared his throat.
“Thank you, I’m glad you think so...” The soft clicking of heeled shoes approached the pair’s table, interrupting the two’s conversation. Madam Puddifoot gave the young couple a warm smile.
“Hello m’dears. Sorry for the wait, what can I get for you today,” she asked. Talbott cleared his throat.
“Oh, um... the tea and scones please,” he answered.
‘Definitely not the most confident response...’ he thought with a grimace. He wasn’t given a chance to ponder on this as the shop owner asked another question.
“Any specific type of tea you would like dearies?” Judith perked up to answer.
“Hibiscus, if you have it. Please and thank you,” she chirped sweetly.
“A-And nothing that can be spilled too easily please,” Talbott chimed in.
‘Why did I say that?!’
Madam Puddifoot let out a small giggle.
“Tea you can’t spill you say? I’ll see what I can do m’dears, in the meantime, enjoy your first date,” she said before walking back into the kitchen.
‘Ah... young love...’
Judith let out a high pitch sneeze, which reminded Talbott of a baby Kneazle.
“How did she know that this was our first date? W-well, it’s a first for me,” Judith asked, bewildered at the woman’s intuition.
“I-It’s a first for me as well... it might be because we come across as awkward? That’s what I’ve heard first dates can be like,” Talbott mumbled. Judith flushed out of embarrassment.
“O-oh... do you think we look awkward together then,” she deduced, nervous to hear her crush’s answer. Red eyes widen and Talbott resisted the urge to slap his forehead.
“Oh no! Um, dating has just never been my thing... I think Madam Puddifoot just picked up on that... I do like you, Judith, and I appreciate you for coming out with me,” Talbott said shyly. The girl’s blush worsen at the confession.
“O-oh, I-I understand. Even though y-you could’ve fooled me, haha... I’m happy to be here with you, Talbott,” Judith replied in kind, twirling a loc in between her fingers.
‘He likes me! He really likes me! Oh my stars, there has to be some sort of catch...’ Just as the thought crossed her mind, Judith saw Tonks and Charlie walk in and take the table behind the oblivious Ravenclaw wizard.
‘Idiot! You just jinxed yourself! Okay, it’s fine! Talbott hasn’t noticed them, so just play it cool!’ Judith cleared her throat before giving a nervous smile.
“S-so, tell me about yourself,” she stated. Talbott regarded her with an raised brow before answering,
“Oh well, um... I like to write poetry in my free time, usually when I’m alone. I like to take flights around the school on occasion... how about you?”
“W-well... when I’m not curse breaking or practicing Quidditch, I like to spend time drawing, singing, reading, spending time with my magical creatures, and practice some Muggle forms of fighting... a few of those activities can be a bit difficult seeing how I have one good eye, but that’s all you need to make it work.” Talbott was leaning towards the Hufflepuff, intrigued.
“I see, that’s rather interesting. I’d love to at learn a bit how Muggles fight, seeing how majority of them can’t use wands. And I’d love to hear you sing.” Judith gave a shy smile.
“I-I can teach you a thing or two. My papa taught me everything I know so I can protect myself. You mentioned wanting to be an Auror one day, s-so this would be a good way to protect yourself, just in case your disarmed. A-and not a lot of people know I can sing... but I don’t mind doing so for you one day,” Judith offered. Talbott smiled.
“I’d like that... very much...” From behind the unknowing wizard, the girl’s two friends gave her a thumbs up. Judith’s cheeks flushed a bit at this.
“S-say Talbott... do you mind if I ask you something?” The young teen gave his date an owl-like head tilt.
“Of course, Judith. What is it,” he asked. Sharp canine teeth gently nibbled on the soft flesh of a bottom lip.
“W-Why... why do you like me? I-I thought you liked to “fly solo”?”
‘Oh... it’s that question…’
Talbott took a deep breath, urging his racing heart to calm down before giving his answer,
“I-I… W-Well… I can tell there’s something about you, Judith. I can tell you’ve been through a lot, but that has never stopped you from being kind. Even with your kindness, you’re never the doormat everyone claims Hufflepuffs to be. That fierceness of your personality soften by the kindness of your heart… it’s magnetic… truthfully I was jealous when I heard that Andre took you to the Celestial Ball…” Gold eyes blinked at him like a deer caught in headlights before the girl shook her head.
“O-oh… there’s nothing wrong showing kindness onto others… well if they give me a reason not to that is. The way I see it is that everyone has a story, a bit of kindness can mean a lot. I-I know it did for me when I met Professor Flitwick and after everyone found out about my scar…” Talbott raised a brow at the girl. He remembers hearing about that incident from their first year. Though, he can tell there’s an element missing in that personal tidbit she just shared but chose not to ask.
“A-and I didn’t really go to the Ball with Andre. He just so happened to ask me for a dance. I was too shy to ask the person I really wanted to go with… not like he show up to the dance anyways,” Judith mumbled. Talbott was still able to catch what she said a frown.
Despite his distaste for large crowds, if she would’ve asked him to the Ball, he would’ve accepted…
“O-oh, I see… whoever you wanted to ask must be a lucky fellow… I know I would’ve felt that way,” he said, rubbing the back of neck sheepishly. Judith felt her eye twitch as she blurted out,
“It was you, bird brain!” Red eyes gazed into pale gold ones, stunned.
‘She actually wanted to attend the Ball with me?’
“M-me?! I-I mean, don’t get me wrong, I-I’m thrilled… but why me?” ‘And why not Andre?’
Judith ducked her head, too embarrassed to meet her date’s gaze.
“I… well… I always liked you… e-ever since we met in the Great Hall. Since you’ve taught me how to fly. Since David and I helped you find your mother’s necklace… Y-you’re mysterious in a magnetic way. Intelligent, witty, and a little sarcastic which I find amusing… you have many layers to you that make me curious… and I do find you rather handsome as well…” Talbott blinked for aw few moments because breaking out into a soft smile.
“Thank you, little bird. That was really kind of you to say. And I had fun teaching you, I always looked forward to it.” Judith took a peek to find those red eyes gazing upon her with fondness alongside the gentle smile. The young witch felt her heart skip a beat.
“Y-You’re welcome,” she replied softly. The pair stared at each other for a few moments in a comfortable silence. Talbott looked ready to say something until,
“WHOO! Go Judith!” Followed by a loud crash. Talbott quickly turned around to find a nervous looking Hufflepuff and Gryffindor next to a table filled with broken china.
“What in the name of Merlin-?!” Judith facepalmed at her house mate’s clumsiness.
“Damn it, Tonks…”
“Whoops,” Tonks mumbled, scratching the back of her head. The sound of heeled shoes clicking loudly towards the front of the shop was the their only warning before Madam Puddifoot appeared with a shocked gasp.
“Oh my! Look at this mess! Terribly sorry m’dears but I’m afraid I have to ask you all to leave so I can clean this up.” Talbott felt his heart sink.
“What?! Damn it, you two!” Tonks and Charlie flinched at the sight of glaring red eyes and a fierce scowl thrown their way. Judith simply shook her head with a soft sigh.
“Don’t worry about it, Talbott. Let’s just go…” Talbott returned his gaze to his date, saddened.
“I suppose so… I’m sorry this went so badly, Judith,” he said. The young girl stood with a shake of her head, walking up to his side of the table.
“Hey, don’t think of it that way. We could always walk back together… if you want,” she shyly offered. Talbott smiled.
“I’d like that…” Judith silently offered her hand to the Ravenclaw wizard, which he took before standing up himself. Talbott silently marveled at the feeling of her hand in his. Compared to his, her hand was small with long, elegant fingers. Her could feel a bit of roughness on her fingertips and palm but her skin was overall soft. Not only that...
‘It’s like her hand fits perfectly into mine...’
In the midst of his observation, Judith glanced over her shoulder, sending a glare over at her friends. They shuddered a bit.
“H-Hey Tonks, why don’t we head to Three Broomsticks. Butterbeer on me,” Charlie offered as he quickly ushered Tonks towards the door.
“Y-Yeah! Good idea Charlie,” Tonks agreed. The two spared one last glance over at the couple mouthing their apologies before leaving. Talbott did his best not to chuckle.
As sweet as his little date may be, she could be scary if she wanted to.
Judith smiled up at her date, gently squeezing his hand.
“C’mon Talbott, let’s go.” The wizard nodded before they headed out of the shop and into the night.
“Oh wow, we’ve must’ve been in there for quite sometime. The stars are starting to come out,” Judith mused aloud. This gave Talbott an idea.
“So they are and it’s a clear night too... Judith, I have a suggestion, if you’re interested...” Pale gold eyes regarded him curiously.
“I’m listening...”
“I was thinking... with the stars out... possibly we could go stargazing? The courtyard, Astronomy Tower, or even the Creature Reserve could be ideal locations to do so.” Talbott watched as full lips split into a grin as the little witch danced on the balls of her feet.
“Ooo~ I would love that! We can go to the Creature Reserve, maybe you could meet some of the creatures I’ve adopted.” Talbot smiled, pleased that he could make his date smile.
“Great! I believe the grasslands would be the best place. If we run into any of your creatures, I would be more than happy to meet them.” Judith giggled as she tugged Talbott along.
“Then why are we still standing here? Let’s go, bird boy!” Talbott chuckled, allowing himself to be dragged away by his cute date.
-----------------------
“It was a good idea to come here. I never thought to come here at night, it’s so beautiful and peaceful,” Judith said as they walked along the grasslands.
“It is, truly. Where would you like to sit? I’m sure you know this place much better than me.” Judith paused before speaking again,
“I would hate to ruin your suit by sitting in the grass or in a tree. I know there’s a rock formation where my Diricrawl prefers to be, we can sit there.” Talbott gazed at the little Hufflepuff curiously.
“I’ve never met a Diricrawl before, but I do know they’re very skittish creatures,” he commented as he followed Judith to the spot mentioned. The girl smiled.
“Rufflet grew to be comfortable around me, I’m sure when she sees that I’m here with you, she’ll open up. She’s a sweet little thing.” Talbott’s heart sighed at the sight of the animated witch.
‘Just when I thought she couldn’t get any cuter...’
Judith gave his hand a small squeeze and they continued to walk along the grassland.
“I hope you’re not feeling too disappointed about tonight,” she mentioned softly. Talbott shook his head.
“No, I’m just sorry that our date got spoiled. I hope you’re not too disappointed with how it went...” Judith let out a soft laugh before looping her arm with Talbott, stepping closer to the Ravenclaw.
“Not at all. I’m happy to even spend my first date with you,” she said with a small smile. Talbott felt a blush blossom on the high points of his cheeks.
“I am too, Judith... I’m glad you had a good time...” The girl’s smile widen a bit, a teasing glint could be seen in her eyes.
“How can I not? You were so nervous, I found it rather adorable.” Talbott chuckled at this.
“Was I that obvious?” A smirk was the girl’s only answer. Talbott shook his head as another chuckle escaped him. The pair walked in silence before finally reaching the rock formation. The pair settled next to each other side by side as they looked up at the night sky.
“I wonder if we’re about to see Aquarius tonight. It’s my star sign,” Talbott said thoughtfully. Judith perked up a bit at this information.
“O-oh! S-so you’re birthday is during the school year,” she asked. Talbott let out a soft hum in confirmation.
“Yes, the 7th of February. I try to keep my head down that time of year... How about you?” Judith fiddled with a loc, a small frown forming on her lips.
“O-oh um, it is... d-during the s-school year I mean... but I don’t really celebrate it...” Talbott bit his lip, worried that he upset her.
“O-oh, I see. If it’s too painful, you don’t need to tell me if you don’t want to...” Judith shook her head.
“My birthday is the 17th of October, the same as Professor Flitwick... only my dad and paternal grandmother would celebrate my birthday with me. Once she died and Papa and I moved to London, we tried to make the most out of it. My mother... she didn’t really care enough to even tell me happy birthday. Before his disappearance, Jamal would send an owl telling me happy birthday at least. Ever since I got to Hogwarts, I only celebrated with Professor Flitwick in his office. Other than that... it’s just another day filled with curse-breaking or practicing for Quidditch season...” Talbott hung onto the girl’s every word as she opened up more about herself. He empathized with her, seeing how he hasn’t really celebrated his birthday ever since his parents died.
But he wanted to change that experience for her.
“I see... if you’d like, could I join you for the celebration next year.” Gold eyes blinked owlishly at him.
“You... you would really want to spend my birthday with me,” she asked slowly, a small seed of hope blossoming from within her chest. Talbott nodded.
“Y-yes, of course.” Talbott blushed as the girl suddenly hugged him and slowly returned the unexpected embrace.
“That would be amazing, Talbott. Even though I can’t celebrate with my dad like how I use to, I know he would be happy that I have someone else to celebrate with me. Just so you know, I’m gonna find a way to make your birthday special.” Talbott smiled, touched by the girl’s words.
“Just as long you expect the same from me, little bird...” Judith blushed, separating herself from the Ravenclaw before he could see.
“S-so... you’re interested in astrology too? I remember spending nights stargazing with my dad and grandmother back in my homeland...” Talbott nodded, mentally storing that little tidbit before answering,
“Yes, I am. However, I’m no fan of horoscopes or the belief that they influence anything in our personalities. Though I must admit, they’re fascinating to explore.” Judith let out a chuckle.
“That’s fair but consider it this way: They can give you an idea on how a person could possibly be.” Talbott turned towards his date with a smirk.
“Is that so?” Judith nodded.
“Take me for an example. I’m a Libra, but I balance out my personality, see? Sweet and fierce. Aloof but caring. And so on...” Talbott cocked his head at this, thoughtful.
“That’s an accurate observation... as an Aquarius, I’m apparently intellectual and analytical. Which I suppose I am if you count my poetry as being intellectually minded,” he mused. Judith nodded slowly at this, looking Talbott in his eyes.
“Depending on the person, poetry can convey deeper thoughts and emotions. Taking on double meanings using a play on words. It can be well thought out or straightforward.” Talbott stared wide eyed at the girl before looking away, coughing into his fist to hide his blush.
“I see... that is... that is a very good analysis,” he commented.
‘Brains and beauty, what more could a wizard ask for,’ he pondered helplessly. In the midst of his thoughts, Judith fiddled with her fingers, embarrassed.
“S-Sorry, I do find poetry to rather interesting...” Without thinking, Talbott found himself saying,
“Perhaps I could teach you how to write it some time?” Judith perked up at this.
“R-Really? I would love that. Andre has mentioned that he’s seen you writing a lot more recently...” The Ravenclaw fought back a exasperated sigh.
Of course his nosey mate would tell his crush this.
“Well, yes I have. I’ve been trying to improve, often taking inspiration from things I find beautiful,” he mumbled, sparing a glace at the Hufflepuff. Judith had her head cocked to the side, much like a curious owlet.
‘Damn it, why must she be this cute?!’
“And what has inspired you lately, if I may ask?” Even though he knew the question was coming, Talbott couldn’t help but to freeze.
“Um... well... y-you actually,” he said slowly. He looked at the girl to find a wide pale gold eye staring back at him.
“M-me?! B-but, I’m not...” Judith fought the lump in her throat that formed around the final word. Talbott frown as Judith trailed off.
“Don’t talk like that, you are beautiful. Any of those idiots who bullied you would be lucky if you so much as glanced at them.” Now it was the Hufflepuff’s turn to frown.
“None of them would even look at me after I kicked their asses in first year. My social standing wasn’t that great even before the incident, that fight made it even worse. If people were scared before found out about my scar, they were terrified after the fact,” she grumbled, staring at her hands. Talbott could see the anger in her eyes, masking away the hurt that lingered underneath. Unconsciously, he reached out to gently raised the girl’s gaze to meet his own.
“I-I see what you mean... I’m sorry, little bird. I should’ve picked my words more carefully... What I mean is... I find you fascinating. And well, if there are people left in this school too short-sighted to see past your scar or your involvement with the Cursed Vaults. Those people are fools.” Judith could feel her heart race as she looked in Talbott’s eyes. She could see the sincerity in his firm gaze, making her blush.
“O-Oh, that makes sense... T-Though I-I’m curious. You... you weren’t scared of me when we first met? Or have you been secretly watching me? You strike me as a silent observer, I know I am...” The Ravenclaw smiled as he let his hand drop.
“No, I wasn’t. I was actually surprised you weren’t intimidated by me when you and David approached me about becoming Animagi. And... I do admit, I occasionally think of you and watch what you do in class but that’s about it. And I suppose I am... I do prefer to wait and see before passing on any judgement,” Talbott replied. Judith cracked a grin before laughing.
“Maybe a little nervous, but I wouldn’t say intimidated. I was scared you would find us annoying. And I’m genuinely surprised you don’t have more admirers or been on more dates. There are plenty of pretty and smart girls who don’t have a target on their back,” Judith said aloud, looking up at the celestial bodies above them. Talbott let out a soft hum at this.
“Maybe.. but to be fair, I’ve never been interested in dating until you came along...” Judith blushed, sparing a glance at the Ravenclaw.
“Because I’m fascinating?” Red eyes gazed upon the girl’s face with a soft look.
“Yes...” came the breathless response. A small shiver ran down the girl’s spine.
“If you don’t mind me asking, how so,” she asked quietly, looking up at the wizard under her curly lashes. Talbott nibbled at his lower lip before answering,
“Like I said before, you come across as warm to your friends, but you’re a force of nature towards your enemies. Like a tigress, you tear across the Quidditch Pitch. Your eyes...” Judith blinked out of surprise when the boy leaned closer to her face.
“Your eyes are captivating pools of gold. Breathtaking, beautiful, and so soulful... They’re bright like the sun and hold a comforting warmth like that of a flame alit at a fireplace. They speak for you when words can’t. That’s just some qualities I can name right now...” Judith fanned her heated face as she glanced away from her date.
‘I wasn’t expecting that answer...’
“That’s a rather unique answer. Something tells me I’m gonna find out more about how you see me,” she said when she finally got her blush under control. Talbott smiled at his adorable date before looking at the starry sky.
“I hope to find out more too...” Judith looked over at the handsome wizard, finding herself scooting closer.
“I just hope you like what you see...” She saw the smile grow a fraction wider.
“I’m sure I will...” Judith noticed how close how their hands were before forcing her gaze upwards as well.
‘I held his hand before, why am I suddenly acting so shy about it?!’
“There’s so many stars tonight and they’re all so bright. Makes you really feel small under what seems like a never-ending universe,” she said aloud. Talbott’s hand shifted closer as he leaned back a bit, his fingertips coming into contact with Judith’s.
“It definitely seems like it when you put that way...” Talbott trailed off, perking up as a stream of light shot across the sky.
“Look a shooting star!” Judith perked up alongside him.
“Oh! Quick, make a wish,” she said. Talbott glanced at the girl, biting his lip.
“I wish... that we could do this again some time,” he whispered, no longer looking at the sky but the beautiful enigma next to him. Judith noticed this and willed herself to speak.
“T-That’s a wish I would be happy to make come true...” Talbott’s smile could rival some of the stars twinkling above them.
“I’m glad, thank you little bird,” he said softly. Judith reached out, intertwining their hands together before looking away.
“Y-you’re welcome, Talbott...” The young wizard felt his heart flutter at the feeling of her hand in his, squeezing the smaller limb.
‘Yup, I’m too deep in this... Crap...’
Much to the flustered Hufflepuff’s relief, a little Horse guardian walked up to the pair, curious to know who was with his caretaker. Talbott was surprised to see the magical creature boldly walk up to him.
“Hello, little one,” he said softly as blue eyes blinked at him. The young Prolock walked up closer, nuzzling the Ravenclaw’s leg. Slightly bewildered, Talbott turned to Judith, who had a loving smile on her face.
“That’s Baron, one of my personal favorites. He was incredibly skittish at first, but grew to be more comfortable around me and the other creatures I have. He gives the best cuddles.” Talbott felt his heart melt as he watch the Hufflepuff gush over the horse guardian.
“I see... I never been the best with creatures outside of the owls in the Owlery,” he said. Raising a tentative hand, Talbott reached down and began stroking Baron’s head. The magical creature perked up, leaning into his hand happily. Judith could see Baron tail wagging as Talbott scratched him behind his ears.
The girl let out an elegant snort.
“But yet you managed to tame a Hippogriff? Come on now, Talbott. Give yourself more credit, I know Baron does. He already likes you,” she insisted. The wizard blushed a bit at the praise before chuckling.
“I suppose I can give Care of Magical Creatures another go...” A bright smile made its way on Judith’s face.
“You definitely should! I would be more than happy to help you. I’ve been learning about magical creatures ever since I was able to read. Plus, spending time with Professor Kettleburn and Hagrid helps a lot.” Talbott could feel his heart fluttering at the possibility of spending even more time with the girl. Talbott smiled at her.
“I’d like that very much, little bird. I do hope to spend some time with a Knarl. I’m fond of them, they’re just the right amount of suspicious.” Judith giggled.
“Then you and Ash would become fast friends. Little rascal kept biting my hands every time I tried to care for him,” she said with a playful eyeroll. The boy couldn’t help but to chuckle at the fond exasperation in her tone.
“I would love to meet him.”
“Play your cards right, and one day you will.”
‘If I play my cards, maybe one day I could have your heart…’
Talbott glanced at his watch with a sigh. It was getting late and they had to head back before Filch becomes an issue.
“Shall we head back to the castle? It is getting late.” Judith let out a dramatic sigh, not really wish to leave just yet.
“If we must...” Talbott chuckled at her.
“Believe me little bird, I wish the night could go on forever as well... maybe I should’ve wished for that instead, he playfully pondered aloud. He got the giggle he was looking for.
“I don’t think even a shooting star could fulfill that. Though, we could always walk back extra slow,” she suggested. The teenage boy squeezed her hand with a boyish grin.
“Yeah, we can do that...” With a few scratches from Talbott and a hug from Judith, the pair sent the Porlock on his way before making their way back to the castle.
“So, are you worried that Andre will grill you for information about how tonight went?” The Ravenclaw let out an exasperated groan, much to the Hufflepuff’s amusement.
“Andre is a good bloke who means well... but by Merlin is he one of the biggest gossips at school. It wouldn’t surprise me if I get ambushed the moment I step foot into the Common Room.” Red eyes glanced at the girl.
“What about yourself? Would David and the others do the same,” Talbott asked. Judith rolled her eyes.
“David is always pulling my leg one way or another. And I honestly didn’t expect Tonks and Charlie to crash our date. I don’t even know how they knew where we were. But I do expect the student body to make a big deal about it. A lot of them don’t have much to do with their spare time but gossip,” she sighed. Talbott gave a sympathetic nod.
“That is very true, they could do with keeping their nose out of peoples’ business.” Judith sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck, looking up at the boy.
“I hope you don’t regret going out with me once your peace becomes compromised...” The slightly larger hand holding hers squeezed gently.
“I think it’s well worth the risk, little bird,” Talbott reassured, giving his date a soft smile. One he would reserve for her and her only. Judith felt her face heat up at the sight, urging her fluttering heart to calm down.
“I-If you say so, Talbott... but I do have a serious question for you...” Talbott let out a soft hum, waiting for her to continue.
“I-I-If w-we do continue g-going out... h-how do you feel about meeting my d-dad?” Talbott pondered over this.
Talbott has heard about the 6′4 giant of a man who was the girl’s father. His first appearance was during their second year, when Judith tried out for the Beater position on the Hufflepuff Quidditch position. Andre had burst into his dorm room, gushing how he got to meet the man. He was an ex-Beater when he attended Hogwarts many years ago and was considered to be one of the greatest for his time. He didn’t take it on as profession however, probably to try to be present at home for any family he would have. The one thing that is undeniable is the love he had for the girl next him. While he’s never seen it, he can tell how much Judith adores her dad and how much he adores her. By the sounds of it, there’s no mother figure in her life so her dad is all that she has.
Talbott wanted to be with the girl, and meeting her dad would be a massive step for the both of them...
It was a step he was more than happy to take.
“I-I would be honored. Meeting a parent is always intimidating b-but I’d liked to give it a try... especially for you...” Judith fought back the blush as she smiles brightly at her date.
“At least you’re honest. Papa can be intimidating but he’s a warm and wise man. I think he’ll love you.” Talbott willed himself to breath as her words settled in his mind. If what she’s saying is true, then he could have a family. Something he hasn’t had since he was 9 years old.
He can’t wait for that day.
“I look forward to it, little bird...” Judith let out an airy laugh.
“I bet, bird boy... I do hope we can do this again soon... I never said this before but... I really do like you...” Talbott gave her hand another squeeze.
“As do I. And thank you, Judith. Perhaps we could take another trip to Madame Puddifoot’s with no interference.” Judith giggled at this.
“I would like that, I never got my “unspillable” hibiscus tea tonight.” Talbott chuckled, deciding to play along.
“Very true, perhaps she’ll give us the recipe. I’d like to try it sometime.” A smirk tugged on the girl’s full lips.
“I think she would have to kill us first.” Talbott returned it with one of his own.
“Or swear a blood pact to never tell another soul lest we suffer a horrific death. Judith threw her head, let out a warm laugh.
“That would sound about right. Afterall, everyone has their secrets.” Judith said this as they approached the Hufflepuff Common Room. Talbott waited for to finish entering the secret passage to enter her Common Room before speaking again.
“I hope to find out yours, I had a wonderful time tonight...” His hand that held hers, slipped free before finding the little Hufflepuff’s waist. Judith squeaked when Talbott pulled her flushed against his body, nuzzling her temple. Judith gazed up at the boy with a flushed face.
“I-I... I-If you plan on sticking around, you just might...” Judith stood on her toes, pressing her lips against the Ravenclaw’s cheek. Talbott stared at her, slightly dazed as she pulled away and out of his grasp.
“G-Goodnight Talbott, s-sweet dreams.” With that parting, the girl hurried into her common room. Talbott stood there for a few seconds longer before a smile broke out on his face.
He turned to leave the basements to his own common room, touching his cheek in the meanwhile.
‘I think I may have found my mate for life...’

Warning - rant incoming.
Having been a writer for more than a decade overall and an active one for almost two years now, there's a question that has been bugging and making me anxious over and over again, and that is:
What kills a writer? What kills the joy writing sparks in us? What makes us want to go and just stop?
And no, I'm not talking about like/reblog ratios here on Tumblr, lack of kudos on AO3, or non-existent interaction (even though these all suck in their own way).
No, what's been grinding my gears over and over and over and over again is when people are lying. You think that sounds rude? Well, so is this kind of behaviour, imho.
For the love of God, please...
... don't say you have to read an author's work when you don't mean to. And no, I don't mean "I really want to engage with what you do properly, but I'm really short on time/motivation/attention span atm but it's sitting in my drafts and I WILL get round to it". Like, that's me, all the time. The number of tbr posts sitting in my drafts is ridiculous, but anyone who knows me knows tI eventually gets around to all of them. No, I mean those people who say things like these because they feel it's expected of them and don't want to say, "Listen, it's cool what you do, but it's not my jam." And I mean, I get it, it takes a lot of courage to say that, and not everyone is mature enough to separate this from the feeling of not being liked or appreciated. BUT - as someone who's been told exactly that and gotten her hopes up of getting interaction and having people to talk about with what's really close to my heart - let me tell you, this kind of behaviour is crushing, and it rings more empty every time you hear it. You stop trusting in people when they say it, and eventually, trusting in what they say altogether. If you are not interested in someone's work, don't make them think you are.
... don't pretend to interact if you don't care. Striking the same cord, if a work doesn't appeal to you or you lost track of it, or you cba with it atm, don't act as if you read/engaged with it with generic or just plain false comments. And again, no, I don't mean generic comments are bad or anything, not at all. But trust me, people can tell if you actually read their work, or just looked at someone else's comment and rephrased it, or skimmed it and possibly got a wrong gist altogether. We can tell. We can always tell. And because we do, it leaves a very, very bitter taste in our mouths every time we get a reaction like this. Interaction should be based on excitement and involvement, not on a quid-pro-quo mentality. You should interact because you want to, and not just so the other person feels compelled to interact with and boost your own content as well. That's not how this is supposed to work. If you like a creator but don't want to engage with their content for whatever reason and are scared they won't like you anymore, just hit them up and talk to them. I've yet to meet another author who will be angry at someone reaching out.
Take inspiration, but do not steal. I know it's virtually impossible to create something so original that it's never been here before in the history of mankind. Tropes are here and beloved for a reason, and every author has that one piece/scene/line they took from something they love. Really, we all do, and inspiration is a beautiful thing to have. That being said, there is a very big and very important difference between getting inspired and copying. I cannot stress enough how upsetting and frustrating it is to a creator when their work is blatantly copied, or something is "inspired by them" that is just a carbon copy or an unsolicited addition to something they never intended to share in the first place. Just because something is put out there doesn't mean anyone has the right to go and grab it for themselves. There's obviously no means to stop anyone from doing so, but just think about how you would feel if something was done to a piece of content/character/art you created. If you want to add to someone's work or it inspires you to do something similar, take the second out of your day to contact the creator and tell them about it to see if they're okay with sharing. Often they are, and if not, they might just have another idea to make things work for both of you.
Oof. That was nice getting off my chest. If you feel offended by what I said, maybe stop and take a moment to think about why. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

His Knight, Her Prince
Hey everyone,
If you seen a recent ask given to me, then you would know this is actually one of my older stories I’ve written on Wattpad. And to that special individual who reminded me of this unfinished story (Trust me, a bunch of WIPs are staring me dead in my face every time I open my drafts), I decided to transfer it here, with some changes that would be more consistent with the “Kendrick Lives AU”.
Hope you guys like it. Especially whoever mentioned it in my asks.
For age reference, Talbott is 21 while Judith is 20.
TW: Character endangerment, abuse, mentions of blood and death
Enjoy~
Song for the story (and the one Judith plays)
---------------------------------------------------------------
"Mum, remind me again why I need to have a knight of my own," the young prince grumbled, standing in front of his mother. The queen sighed, shaking her head at her hardheaded son.
Her soft brown eyes looked tired.
"I told you, my love, this is a necessary precaution. You'll be king soon and that means many will seek to end your life. A knight is necessary to keep you safe," she repeated for probably the 10th time that week.
"I'm not going to that event, nor do I need a knight," Talbott huffed. The heir to the throne turned on his heel and walked to the nearest window.
Talbott didn’t see the need for a knight. He was trained to defend himself since he was a pre-teen. What's the point of the training if he had somebody trailing him like a lost dog?
"Talbott, wait-" Talbott didn't hear what else his mother had to say as he transformed into his eagle Animagus and flew away.
‘Ugh, that boy. Stubborn like his father.’
Sighing, the queen went to her chambers to get ready for the event that was supposed to be for Talbott. Knights far and wide were supposed to come for the prince to choose to become his defender. Ava didn’t care how against it he was. He was getting a knight, end of story.
Dressing in her royal blue dress, Ava placed her crown on her head and headed out to the training grounds. Walking among the mass of knights that came for her son, she studied them all with a careful eye.
A soft frown could be found on her face as she took in the lackluster bunch.
‘Some come off too arrogant when it comes to their abilities while others seem to lack a backbone.’
She let out a sigh.
‘This is about to be a long-’
"Look out, Your Majesty!" She gasped as two swords suddenly appeared a mere inches from her face. A young man immediately paled as he was effectively disarmed.
"M-M-My apologies, Your Majesty! I-I-I was u-using a sword much heavier than I expected," he fretted, bowing at her feet. Her gaze soften at the trembling knight.
"Rise young soldier, all is forgiven. No harm done, thanks to..." she trailed off to see the person who save her.
Her brows shot up to see a young woman standing before her.
She was around a few inches shorter than she was. Her dark brown locs were set in a heavy low bun, save the few long pieces that frames her face. She had relatively smooth dark brown skin, save from the vicious burn scar the almost closed her left eye shut. Ava swallowed back a wince from the ghastly sight. Her face was half-hidden behind a black scarf from the bottom of her nose down. She had a familiar pair of gold eyes. They showcase a hint of innocence but a weary and hardened soul. Her attire was interesting, so unlike the other knights here. Ava was minorly surprised to see how it hugged her body.
Tumblr media
‘She had curves many noble women and princesses would kill for!’
(A/N: I was looking for female versions but I like this design a lot. Just imagine the collar is a black scarf and the coloring was black and gold)
Tumblr media
(A/N: Instead of the red gemstone, just imagine an opal)
She sheathed her sword behind her back, which also held a bow and arrows. The young woman bowed silently.
"I trust that you are unharmed, Your Majesty?" Her voice was a bit muffled because of her scarf, but her voice sounded low and smooth with an accent of some sort.
One Ava has heard at some point but couldn’t figure out where exactly.
"Yes, thank you..." Her gold eyes met light brown ones and she lowered her scarf to speak,
"Judith, Your Majesty..." Ava cocked her head at this. She had a beautiful name, yet an familiar one. For the life of her, Ava can’t seem to remember where she heard it. The queen studied the young woman’s face.
Sharp, delicate bone structure save for a bit of softness in her cheeks. Full dark brows, save for bit of spotting where the hair is struggling to grow back over the scar tissue. As well as a slight streak in her right brow. Sharp angled eyes with dark curly lashes. And full lips set in a thoughtful pout.
‘Goodness, she's quite a looker. Even with her scar. If I wasn't searching a knight for my son, I would've asked her to be his wife. Hm... food for thought...'
"Judith, walk with me," Ava said with a smile. The young woman looked a little surprised but silently fell in step with the older woman.
"You don't really strike me as a knight, Judith," she commented, trying to figure out the girl's motive. Judith let out a low laugh.
"Because I’m not, Your Majesty. I'm more of a wandering spirit who's apparently good with a sword and a bow and arrows," she replied with a relaxed smirk. Ava let out a laugh at her cheekiness.
"I see. Glad to know those aren't just for show then," she winked. Judith blushed a bit before chuckling.
"Then what are you doing here, my dear?" Judith sighed.
"Like I previously stated, Your Majesty. I’m a wandering spirit. I was forced to leave the life I once known, so I have no real ties anywhere. I just travel alongside my trusted friend, Vince," she answered with a shrug. Ava frowned at the nonchalance of her tone, but noticed the sad look in her eyes.
To avoid the sensitive subject, she decided to ask something else.
"And who is Vince?" Judith gave a hint of a smile and let out three short, crisp whistles. A little black and white owl came out of nowhere and perched itself on her shoulder, nuzzling her scarred cheek.
"This is Vince. I met him when he was just recently hatched. He fell out of his tree and broke his wing. Against my mother's wishes, I took him and nursed him back to health. All while raising him. When he was old enough to be on his own, the stubborn little thing refused to leave and stayed alongside me. Who was I to tell this sweet bird no," she said, petting the back of the owl's feathers. The bird let out a coo of delight.
"Say hello to Queen Ava, Vince," she told him. The owl's dark eyes turned to the queen before performing something akin to a bow. Ava blinked in surprise but smiled.
"Hello, little one. May I," she asked, reaching out to the little owl. Judith nodded and Ava caressed the back of Vince's neck. He preened under the attention.
"Such a sweet bird," she cooed. Judith smiled.
"Other than him, I just have myself. I was honestly just passing by when I saw the massive crowd of knights. What's the occasion, Your Majesty?" The queen rose a brow at this.
‘A young woman just wandering the lands with an avian companion? Interesting she never heard about today...’
"Today is the day my son is supposed to choose a knight to guard him before and after his coronation. I'm sure you're aware of how assassins tend to get bold before the crown can pass peacefully from the previous ruler to the heir," she said. A small grimace worked its way onto the young woman’s face.
"Aye, I'm aware... but where IS Prince Talbott," she said, a brow raised.
‘A keen eye, I see...’
"The boy more or less ran off so he wouldn't have to choose his own knight. He never wanted one but he doesn't seem to fully understand the importance of having one since he's been trained to protect himself," Ava said with an eye roll. Judith let out a laugh.
"So I'm assuming as the mother of the future king, you're here to pick one for him," she grinned. The queen nodded.
"I wish you luck my fair lady. I'm sure you'll be in for a long day," Judith said, turning to leave. Ava quickly placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Wait!" Judith glanced over at the queen, her gold eyes gleamed with curiosity.
"Will you be taking part in this? It is open to all," Ava asked hopefully. She have a strong feeling about this young woman but she knew she couldn’t just pick her right away. She had to give everyone a fair chance to prove themselves.
"No... like I said I was just passing through," Judith said slowly.
"Why not join? It will be an excellent challenge," the queen bribed.
‘Also, a great way to keep you here and get you closer to my son...’
Judith looked a bit hesitant but nodded nonetheless. Ava smiled, doing her best to hide her eagerness...
‘Today just might turn out for the better...’
----------------------------------------------
"WE HAVE OUR WINNER!" The announcer raised Judith's arm high in the air. The girl looked shy under the gaze of many so she looked toward Queen Ava. The queen gave her a friendly smile.
Ava was pleased with her gut instinct when it came to the young woman. Judith was surprisingly skilled in the ways of the swords, disarming her opponents with little to no effort. She was lightning quick with a quiver and a bow. Deadly in throwing daggers with frightening accuracy. And she wasn't afraid of hand-to-hand combat.
"I believe I have chosen," the queen announced from her chair. Judith's eyes spoke of confusion before widening in surprise. Ava walked from her spot underneath the booth and walked toward the young woman.
"Come, time to meet your prince," she said gently. Judith bit her lip and nodded, following her back to the castle.
--------------------------------------------------
Talbott was waiting alongside his father in the throne room, highly annoyed. Once the wayward prince returned from his flight, his father seem to know exactly where to find him. King Trent went on to inform Talbott how his mother went ahead with the event to find him a knight... and how he was to meet him tonight.
‘Bloody hell...’
Soon Queen Ava walks in with a young woman a few steps behind her. Trent and Talbott raised a brow.
"Hello my loves," Ava greeted with a sweet smile. The king walked up to his wife, wrapping an arm around her waist before kissing her temple.
"Hello dear... who might this be," he aired out the question of the hour. Talbott took the time to study the woman closely.
She was shorter than his mother but not by much. Judging by her attire, she wasn't a maid nor a princess. Her stance was tall and spoke of confidence.
‘Her face was... well... wow...’
Despite the glaring scar that brands the left side of her face, it didn’t deter from her beauty. Her skin looked soft, like the petals of a rose.
Her face was delicately sculpted, leaving just enough softness in her face to show her youth.
Her lips were full and pouty.
Her eyes. Pale gold. Talbott has seen interesting eye colors, but only met two other people with gold eyes.
‘And one of them is dead...’
Her eyes spoke for her. Curiosity, innocence, weariness...
Something about her seemed so familiar to him... but from where?
The young woman briefly scanned the royal family before bowing.
"Your Majesties... it's an honor to meet all of you," she said, her voice sent a small shiver down Talbott’s spine. Red eyes narrowed at her.
"Likewise..." Trent purposely trailed off. The woman stood tall once more.
"Judith," she simply said.
"No last name," Talbott quipped. Her eyes trained on the prince, raising a brow. Her gaze was semi-shy but unwavering.
"I was disowned, Your Highness. As far as some of my family is concerned, I have no right to be carrying a last name," she stated, Talbott felt a hint of coldness in her voice. Glancing over at his parents, they looked both a little shocked and intrigued.
"Well, Judith. What brings you here," the king asked. Judith looked uneasy and glanced at Queen Ava, who smiled.
"Judith will be Talbott's new knight." The silence that fell in the room was tense. Talbott had to give the girl credit for not showing her nervousness. But he was nowhere near impressed. He didn't want a knight, much less a female knight.
"No." Judith blinked in surprise but didn't say anything.
"Talbott-"
"I told you I don't want to have a knight tailing me everywhere. Much less a female knight. So no. You can return from wherever you came from," Talbott said stoically and walked out. He didn't care what his parents have to say to him about it.
-----------------------------------------------------------
‘Well, everyone just seems to reject me in life so it seems. I can be killed or die of old age, I'll still be alone regardless.’
"I'm so sorry about him, Judith," Queen Ava apologized. Judith glanced at the royal couple.
‘They look happy together. Must be nice...’
"It's okay. I'm used to being dismissed like that," she shrugged.
Her parents were looking for another heir just in case something were to happen to her older brother, Jamal. They weren't expecting a daughter. Apparently, Judith nearly killed her mother in childbirth and to her, it seem like a bad omen. Her father, Kendrick, found her to be a blessing and showered the girl with love and affection. Sade kept her daughter at arm's length, finding ways to keep away from her "perfect" family. Which was completed by the newest addition to the family, Judith’s half-brother, Nuri Lockheart.
Since Kendrick was satisfied with having just two children, and not wanting to risk his wife’s life again at the hands of childbirth, he stopped sleeping with her. Which made the duchess turn a wandering eye to one of their neighbors, Duke Martin Lockheart. To protect both their reputations, Kendrick took in the young boy as his own, allowing his father to come visit his son as much as he pleased. But as far as Sade was concerned, she only had two children.
Jamal and Nuri.
Judith still received an education as a noble daughter would have. She excelled at reading, writing, and mathematics. She knew how to speak French and Latin. The older the girl got, the more her creative soul revealed itself. She loved to paint, draw, sing, dance, read and write poetry. She learned to play the violin and harp, secretly making her own music to cheer herself up. Just like members on her dad’s side of the family, she could even perform magic alongside Jamal. All this would've made any parent proud.
But it didn't impress Sade.
The older she got, the less she cared. Judith knew that her mother would’ve arranged her to be either be married off or disowned if it wasn’t for her father. Nothing she did could make her happy. Her brothers were the apples of her eye. And because they were boys, Sade pressured Kendrick to pour all their time and resources into them. She was left to care for nannies, butlers, and her father when he forced to make time for his only daughter. Judith never held it against her father when he didn’t spend as much time with her as he did Jamal and Nuri. Even though he’s not suppose to have favorites, if you were to ask the elder Harris, it would’ve been his little girl.
Judith was the carbon copy of her father. She also took up many of his similar interests. She wasn’t as cocky as Jamal but she wasn’t as timid as Nuri. Kendrick trusted that her caretakers nurture her many abilities, something the young woman was forever grateful for. Judith would perform for them on occasion and gift them with paintings or portraits as a way of saying thank you. They showed that they loved her.
The royal family seemed to like her well enough as well. Even for young Talbott to say he would marry her one day.
------------------------------------
Flashback (when Talbott was 17 and Judith was 16)
The young duchess sighed as James walked out of her room. He just informed her of a message from her “dearest” mother.
"Stay out of sight. We have special guests."
At this point, every guest was considered to be special. Judith rolled her eyes. She never gets a message from her asking how she was doing but always get one to make herself as scarce as possible.
‘Ugh, I need fresh air.’
It would be nice to practice a song she made on her harp. Judith got up from her comfy window sill and smoothed out any wrinkles from her dress.

(A/N: This is Judith's favorite dress to wear and her harp)
Grabbing her wand, she casted a levitating spell on the massive harp. A gift from her father. It was James and his wife’s, Maureen, idea. Kendrick made sure to provide the funds for the beautifully made instrument. Judith received it on her 11th birthday along with her violin. She’s been playing them ever since.
Sticking her head out of her room, she quickly search the halls.
‘Vacant as per usual.’
Walking out her room with her harp close behind her, she went through a secret passage way to the garden. However, not before stopping by to see who these "special guests" were. As she drew closer to the main hall, she begun to hear voices.
"Revelio" she whispered. The wall disappeared, showing the back of one of the curtains. The young girl peeked out to see what was going on.
Her parents and brothers were smiling at a finely dressed couple and what seems to be their son. She noticed the crowns on their heads and inhaled sharply.
‘That must be the royal family.’
"King Trent, Queen Ava, and Prince Talbott. Welcome to our home," Kendrick, greeted with a smile. Sade, politely curtsied. Jamal and Nuri bowed.
"Duke Kendrick and Duchess Sade. It is wonderful to see you both. And how are you, Jamal and Nuri," King Trent returned. The adults created back and forth conversation as the two brothers walked up to Prince Talbott with a smile. Jamal was doing his best to create conversation to the younger boy but Prince Talbott looked bored and unamused. Nuri was fiddling with his fingers, a nervous habit of his.
"Would you like to see our home," Nuri offered, hoping to get some form of a reaction out of the stoic prince.
"What a wonderful idea, son! You boys can show Prince Talbott all we have to offer here. Just be back before dinner," Sade gushed. Judith rolled her eyes at her mother.
"It would be nice for you to learn your future's subject's lands, Talbott. Why not," his father gently pushed. Talbott has yet to really share a word but nodded. The two boys grinned from ear to ear.
"Come, we can show your the armory we have here." Jamal and Nuri turned on their heels to lead the way. Talbott glanced over his shoulder, finding pale gold eyes peaking from behind a curtain. Judith quickly hid behind the heavy fabric and made the wall reappear.
‘So much for staying out of sight...’
-------------------------
Eventually, Judith reached the garden. She took a deep breath, taking the gentle scents of the flowers and the crisp cool air. A slow smile made its way on her face for the first time that day. Walking a bit deeper in the gardens, she found her favorite spot.
A massive fountain surrounded by chamomiles.
'Patience in adversity,' she mused.
Settling on on the fountain, she lowered the harp to the ground in front of her. Closing her eyes, her ears perked up and listened to the sweet sound of the nature around her for a few moments. She found that nothing could compare to the quiet peace here she had found refuge in.
Gently pulling the massive instrument closer, long slender fingers floated over the strings and began to play.
It was the young girl’s personal favorite song to play. Something about seems so soft, so beautiful, so passionate and personal to her...
Judith was so lost into playing that she almost missed the eagle the perched on top of her harp.
"Oh! Hello there," she greeted the avian creature. It was fairly big but not enough to be an adult.
‘A juvenile perhaps.’
She stepped away from the harp to walk around to get a better look at the bird. She watched in awe as the sun rays bounced off the eagle's dark brown feathers, showing off different hues.
"Wow... you're beautiful," she whispered. The bird cocked its head before flying to the ground. And transformed into Prince Talbott...
‘Well then..’.
Without missing a beat, Judith quickly curtsied at the young prince.
"Your Highness," she greeted. Talbott's red eyes studied her intensely, but she did her best to remain composed.
"You're the girl from behind the curtain," he finally spoke.
"I am," she replied evenly. He stepped closely, his eyes spoke of his interest.
"And you have the duke’s looks," he observed.
"I do," she simply answered.
"Are you the duke's bastard," he asked. Judith let out a hearty laugh.
‘Very cut and dry, straight to the point.’
"That would be my mother’s greatest wish. It make getting rid me so much easier," she said with an eye roll. Talbott perked up at this.
"So you're actually Duke Kendrick’s legitimate daughter? Why haven't I heard about you," he asked. Judith simply shrugged.
"I wasn't wanted by my mother. She basically tried to erase my existence to replace me with my little brother, Nuri. Who isn’t my father’s blood son, in case you’re wondering. To be simply put: Out of sight, out of mind." Talbott didn't seem to like this answer too much, a hint of disgust briefly flashed across his face before being replaced with curiosity.
"Then who are you?" Judith rose a brow at him.
"Why would you want to know a nobody," she asked instead.
"A nobody wouldn't be as interesting as you..." Pale gold eyes blinked slowly. Judith cleared her throat, trying to shake off the feeling of surprise.
"Judith... my name is Judith," she finally said. Talbott tested her name on his tongue while looking into her eyes. He found that he liked saying it as much as he heard it. Especially with the similar accent he heard in the duke’s voice that could be found in hers. Judith could feel her cheeks grow warm at this.
"Shouldn't you be receiving the grand tour of the land from my brothers, Your Highness," she asked, trying to change the subject.
"Please, call me Talbott. And your brothers aren’t very interesting. Only interesting about them is how polar opposites their personalities are," he said offhandedly. Judith did her best to muffle her giggle, but to no avail. Talbott smiled at this, pleased to hear such a sweet sound.
"I'm not going to lie to you, Talbott. You're not wrong. Jamal grew up to be a bit of a cocky hothead while Nuri was a bit more sheltered and has a more shy personality. Being the black sheep, my mother could care less about me and my extra curriculars," she said. Talbott frowned at this.
"Why are you labeled as the black sheep?" Judith shrugged again, looking away from the prince’s gaze.
"Because I'm not a boy. Every family with a title would want an heir and a spare. After Jamal, they got me instead. I was told I almost killed my mother and after that, my father stopped sleeping with her so he didn’t risk her health. He was satisfied with having just Jamal and I. But my mother wasn’t. That led her to another’s bed and she ended up having Nuri. She had always saw me as a bad omen in her life." Talbott stared at the girl in disbelief before stepping closer. Reaching for her small hand, he brought it to his lips and left a lingering kiss on her knuckles. Judith stared at him wide eyed while holding an inflame cheek in her free hand.
Talbott stared directly into those mystical eyes as he spoke,
"Fair lady, none of that is your fault. Nor does it make you any less. Your mother can't seem to see the beauty, intelligence, and strength within you."
"Y-you only just met m-me, Your- I mean, Talbott. How can you tell those things about me," she asked, clearly flustered and confused. He smiled with a soft shake to his head.
"Will you play that song for me again," he requested instead. Judith blinked in surprise at the odd request.
‘He wanted me to play for him? Has the world gone mad?’
Not wishing to disobey him, she slowly nodded and retook her seat at the fountain. Talbott sat beside her, rather close than what would be deemed appropriate...
Taking a deep breath, she began to play. In the midst of her song, Judith took a chance and glanced at the boy. His eyes were half lid as if he was sleepy. He had a blissful expression on his face.
"I can tell the song resonates with you, Judith," he whispered once she finished. Judith blushed and shyly glanced at him.
"Are you alright, Talbott? You look tired," she said, brushing a loc behind her ear. Talbot felt his face flush at this.
"I'm sorry. You just... you play so beautifully. I couldn't help but get lost in the song," he shyly admitted. Judith let out a soft laugh and thanked him.
"Do you mind playing a bit more? It could be anything you want," he asked, looking eager. Now it was Judith’s turn to blush.
‘Goodness, does he really enjoy hearing me play so much?’
She nodded and began to play for him. After a few songs later, he re-positioned himself, allowing himself to lay down along the lip of the fountain and using her thigh as a pillow. Judith paused at this.
"I-Is this okay," he asked, sounding unsure of himself. Judith cleared her throat.
"Y-Yes, it's o-okay... are you comfortable," she shyly asked, looking down at him. His red eyes locked with her gold ones.
"Immensely so," he said with a small smile. Judith could feel her heart flutter at the sight.
She nodded, not trusting her voice, and resumed playing. After awhile, she could feel her fingers start to cramp up and stopped.
"Why'd you stop playing," Talbott asked. His eyes were closed, almost like he was sleeping. The rise and fall of his chest were slow and steady, with his fingers interlaced on his stomach.
"My fingers are tired, it's not often I perform a musical concert for the royal prince," she said with an eyeroll, cracking her knuckles. Talbott chuckled at the girl’s sass. Without thinking, Judith ran one of her hands through his hair. Talbott let out a small sigh and leaned into the soothing touch. As if coming back to herself, she removed her hand with a shy blush.
"Why'd you stopped," he whined, his eyes opening.
"Don-Don't y-y-y-ou think this is rather inappropriate," she stuttered. For the life of her, Judith couldn’t understand why she was actually so familiar with the prince. They weren't betrothed.
Talbott frowned.
"To hell with the etiquette. Can't two people simply enjoy one another's presence," he countered. A sharp canine wore down her bottom lip but she returned her hand to where it was previously. Talbott was rather pleased about this, his eyes fluttering.
"Does that feel good," she asked softly.
"More than you'll ever know, darling," he mumbled. Judith forced herself not to choke at the pet name.
The two ended up spending more time in the garden, not realizing the time flying by. They traded off different conversation with ease. Talbott, although shy, seem really set on being close to the girl. More than once he allowed his hand to brush against hers, wanting nothing more but to hold it. But he didn’t want to scare away the shy beauty with his sudden boldness.
Judith was showing him where her favorite flowers were when a beautiful white swan landed in front of them.
Talbott stiffen while Judith looked at the bird, rather curious. The bird transformed into Queen Ava. Judith glanced at the suddenly nervous looking prince.
‘So he's not the only one who can transform into an animal...’
"Your Majesty," she curtsied before her. Light brown eyes were trained on the young Harris before she came up again.
"Hello," she said, her voice was light and airy.
"Hi, mum," Talbott greeted sheepishly. That's when her attention turned on her son. Judith hid a smile behind my hand as Queen Ava's glare landed on her nervous son.
"Talbott, where have you been? You were supposed to be with the duke's sons," she chided him.
"They were boring me to death. Jamal was going on about politics and his family while Nuri could barely get a sentence out," Talbott huffed. Judith stifled a giggle.
"So you ran off into the gardens," the queen asked with an arched brow.
"I flew off into the gardens," Talbott corrected. This time the young girl couldn’t help herself. She let out a snort at the prince’s sass. The queen rolled her pretty brown eyes and looked at the young girl.
"And who might this be," she asked. Talbott bit his lip, letting his hand brush against hers again. He was heavily tempted to tell his mother the truth about the girl’s family and possibly bring her back to the castle with them. Judith felt her cheeks grew warm at the sudden contact.
‘Oh come on, right in front of his mother?!’
"My name is Judith, Your Majesty... It's an honor to meet you," she said. The queen scanned her face, brows inching closer to her hairline.
"You have the duke's looks... but yet I never heard of you," she mused. Judith cleared her throat at this.
"That's uhh... complicated story, Your Majesty. But I am Kendrick’s legitimate daughter if that is what your hinting at," she answered. The queen cocked her head to the side, intrigued at this new information. She and the duke were friends for many years, but she didn’t recall him mentioning having a little girl.
"There you two are." Judith jumped a little at the sound of the third voice. King Trent appeared and went to his wife's side, kissing her cheek. Judith averted her gaze with a blush. She had never really seen a couple being affectionate with one another.
Only read about it in stories.
"Are you alright?" she heard Talbott ask. Judith turned to him and gave him a small nod.
"Yes I am... your father simply gave me a small fright is all," she said. He chuckled, clearly amused by something.
"Seeing how it caused you to grab my hand, I can tell." The girl’s eyes went wide at this admission.
She looked down and sure enough, her hand was intertwined with Talbott's. As Judith internally panicked, Talbott gave the small limb small squeeze.
"Not that I mind," he whispered with a small smile, tugging her a bit closer. Judith dropped her gaze with a shy smile. Judith was forced back into reality when the king cleared his throat to get their attention.
"Judith, correct," he asked, his blood red eyes studying the girl who seemed to catch his son’s fancy.
"Yes, Your Majesty," she replied evenly.
"I don't need to ask you the obvious two questions in regards to your identity, thanks to my lovely wife. But I do wish to ask, what are you doing out here with my son," he asked.
"O-Oh... Well I wanted to spend some time in the garden playing the harp for a while. It wasn't long until your son found me playing a song I composed in his eagle form. Ever since I just played while he listened," she explained. The king and queen looked interested.
"You make your own music," the queen asked. Judith blushed and nodded.
"Nothing extreme. I'm still learning after all..." Talbott rolled his eyes.
"Ever so modest. You two should hear her play. It's beautiful," Talbott insisted. Judith shot an embarrassed glare at him, silently telling him to shut up but it was already too late.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea," the king said, a gentle smile on his face. Judith took a deep breath and nodded. The young duchess led the royal family back to the fountain where her harp still remained...
All while still holding lovesick prince's hand...
----------------------------
The king and queen applauded as the girl completed her song.
"Talbott was right! You play beautifully, my dear!" The queen gushed.
"A beautiful talent you have, little one. What else can you do," the king pressed, seemingly eager to know more about the mysterious girl. Judith indulged the family, despite the burning sensation in her cheeks. All of them seem to be grinning for whatever odd reason, like they all agreed on something.
"Your Majesties? Are you here?" Judith stiffened at the sound of her mother's voice.
"I can't let her see me with you all," she whispered.
"But why-" the queen started and Judith immediately shook her head, eyes panicked.
"Please, just don't tell her you saw me," she pleaded, taking out her wand.
"Evanseco." The family gasped as the girl seemingly disappeared. Judith held her breath as her family appeared.
"There you all are. Dinner is just about ready," Sade said. The royal family looked among themselves, and Judith silently prayed they wouldn't ask about her.
"Yes... we were enjoying the gardens. Talbott seem rather fond it," King Trent finally said.
"Oh! We should've taken you here first then. Our apologies, Your Highness," Nuri blushed and bowed. Talbott's little eye roll went unnoticed before he grumbled that it was fine. Kendrick let out a muted chuckle with a brief shake to his head. He knew the prince wasn’t strongly interested in the boys, no matter how hard his “wife” seemed to push them in his face. It didn’t escape his attention that the royal family were sitting in Judith’s favorite spot in the gardens.
And how his little girl was missing from her room when he stopped by to visit her. It wouldn’t surprise him if the young prince stumble upon her in his escape from his two sons. Kendrick gave the prince a knowing smirk, one that Talbott seemed to pick up on. As everyone else stood up and began making their way inside, Talbott stood and walked a few paces before stopping. Judith silently walked up to him, rather curious on why he was still there.
"Are you still here," he whispered quietly.
"Yes..." Talbott jumped a little at the sound of her voice being so close. Judith giggled a little.
“Your father seemed to having a knowing look on his face. Do you think he knows that we met? Or that you’re still here?” Judith pondered briefly on this and chuckled.
“It wouldn’t surprise me. Papa is very intuitive and self aware.” Talbott let out a soft hum.
“Will I see you at dinner?” Judith let out a disheartened sigh.
“No. My mother gave me instructions to stay out of sight while you’re family is visiting. I expect that my dinner will be brought to my rooms.” Talbott bit his lip.
"Will I see you again," he asked slowly. Judith went silent for a few moments before answering,
"Perhaps... why?"
"Next time we visit, I wish to take you away so I can marry you." Judith let out a sneeze of surprise.
"I'm serious," he said firmly. The girl blushed, but happy that for once he can't see her.
"O-Oh... it would be an honor, Your Highness," she said in a soft voice.
"It's Talbott, darling," he said with an eyeroll. Feeling rather bold, Judith got on her toes and kissed his cheek. She knew sneaky move, but she at least wanted to leave him with something. He blushed, touching the cheek where those pouty lips have been. She let another chuckle.
"Until we meet again, my prince," she whispered in his ear. He shivered and smiled.
"Until we meet again... my future Queen..." she blushed as he walked off.
Judith turned back to the fountain and noticed two flowers. A white clover and a pink carnation.
Remember me and I'll never forget you. A smile worked its way onto her lips.
‘Talbott...’
----------------------------------------
Of course her mother ruined that for her. A year after, Sade found a "suitable husband" for her daughter, deciding that her gender would finally be useful to the family. However the choice of husband was... debatable. If you call a 45 year old womanizer a suitable husband. The man was widowed three times prior. Judith refused to be wife #4, especially to that man. When she refused, her mother demanded that she either marry or be disowned.
So Judith politely said she can walk on the boiling coals of hell before jumping into the flaming pits. Her heart belonged to the prince, and she will never be with another other than him. Judith did find immense satisfaction in seeing her mother’s speechless face.
Unfortunately for her, only lasted for a moment. Sade,  who knew a bit of magic herself, stole her wand and burned the young girl. Her father heard his daughter’s cries of pain and rushed to find his “wife” glaring down at his weeping child. The fight between the two was intense.
‘You DARE harm our daughter?! You-”
“You mean YOUR daugther, Kendrick! I never wanted the little disgrace to begin with!’
‘Watch your tongue, Sade! I wouldn’t hesitate to divorce you and leave you in ruin!”
“Ha! Like that will end well for you! No one knows of her existence, anyone would believe she was some secret love child you had outside of our marriage. Since she refuses to marry, then she’s disowned! She has no right carrying the Harris name!’
Kendrick protested strongly, not wanting to let go of his little girl. But Judith, though in pain still, agreed.
She wouldn’t let her father take the fall for her. She loved him and her brothers too much to let them experience such backlash from the royal court.
Sade amended that Kendrick can heal her before she was sent off into the world. It was considered Sade’s “last act of kindness”. The girl spent her last few days with her father and brothers, who heard what happened to their sister. Jamal was furious on her behalf while Nuri cried, latching onto his big sister pleading with her not to leave them. Judith’s heart ached for the men that were so prominent in her life as she did her best to comfort them. It wasn’t how she imagined spending her 17th birthday but at least she could spend it with those she considered to be her family. As she healed, she did her best to prepare for the world she only read about in books. She didn't fully regret her decision to be cast out, because look where she was now.
She was a knight for a man who now doesn't seem to recognize her and wants nothing to do with her. Isn't it great?
Judith was roused from her musings when the king spoke.
"Are you sure you still want to do this," King Trent asked skeptically. Judith nodded.
"Of course. For the sake of the kingdom. If the prince doesn't wish to be babysat like a little kid then I wouldn't hover or invade his space. But I will always remain close by," she told them. Both of them seem to relax at that.
"You must be tired, it has been a long day. One of our attendants can show you to your rooms. Near Talbott's of course," the queen said. Judith nodded as she stifled a yawn.
"Have a wonderful night, Your Majesties. I won't let you down," she bowed. A female with dark brown skin, straight black hair, and big-rimmed glasses approached the new knight and bowed.
"Hello! My name is Rowan and I'll be your personal servant during your stay at the palace," she greeted. Judith smiled at her a little.
‘She seems nice...’
"Hello and thank you..." Judith followed Rowan out of the room, not noticing the curious eyes of the king and queen.
-----------------------------------------------
Talbott found this new knight is both intriguing and annoying all at once.
She wasn’t super noticeable, dressing in simple dresses and would be casually hanging around places he would be at. She never made a move to approach him but he can tell that she watches his every move like a hawk. Something Talbott considered to be an annoying thought to constantly have. He also noticed that she doesn't carry any weapons.
‘Glad to know my "knight" is here to actually stalk me, not protect me. Not that I truly need it anyways.’
But something that intrigued the prince the most was that she reminded him of someone he once knew. A girl who he met in a garden. But there's no way that it could be her...
Talbott remembered how eager he was to go back to the Harris household, not that he particularly cared for the adults, save for Duke Kendrick, the sons.
But the "non-existent" daughter.
Talbott knew he couldn't ask for her upfront so he had to think outside of the box. He was roped up into spending time with Jamal and Nuri, but immediately went to the garden. In hopes of finding her there again. Instead, he found a middle aged butler and Duke Kendrick walking in the garden by the fountain, with a sad expression on their faces.
Apparently, the man next to the duke was one of the main ones to raise the girl. James, the butler, informed the young prince of her untimely death at the hands of an assassin trying to find one of her brothers.
Talbott was never whole again.
The young prince spared another glance at the female knight.
‘Yet, here is this woman. The same eyes and bearing the same name as the girl who effortless stole my heart with a song. If this is Gods' sick sense of humor, then I'm not amused.’
"Talbott?” the young heir glanced at Penny, one of his attendants and close friend.
"You've been staring at your knight with an intense glare for the past 10 minutes. Is everything alright," she asked. Talbott fought back a blush that threaten to blossom on his face. He didn't realize that he was literally watching this woman read a book for 10 minutes. He shook his head, trying to regain his bearings.
"I'm fine," he replied curtly before stalking off. He needed to get away from the palace. Going to a nearby open window, he transformed and flew away. Trying to get away from the ghost of his past.
Little did he know, she's always there...
------------------------------------------------
Talbott returned castle hours later. The sun has long since set, the moon taking watch over the sky for a period. The heir to the throne wasn't really ready to go to bed, so he decided to visit the gardens. He found them to be normally more peaceful at night...
Walking into the pristine foliage, Talbott listened to the sounds of crickets chirping and the occasional of a hoot of an owl. He sighed wistfully.
‘If only I could hear the strings of a harp.’
"I miss you, my love," he said into the quiet night air. He inhaled sharply as he felt the cold kiss of a blade suddenly press against the skin of his neck.
"I'm sure she'll miss you too, my Prince," a gravelly voice hissed.
"Don't even bother calling for the guards, you'll bleed out before they can even reach you," the man chuckled. Two more men dressed in black came from the shadows, swords drawn. The blade press harder against the prince’s neck, leaving a cut that threatened to go deeper.
"Goodnight, sweet-AH!" The blade falling out the assassin's hand and Talbott swiftly grabbed his arms and threw him over head at the feet of his comrades. Other two went to charged at him only for two daggers to come whistling through the air. One was fortunate enough to find the blade through his forehead, dropping immediately. His companion wasn't so lucky as the blade found his shoulder. The man Talbott thrown was on his stomach, revealing a dagger embedded in his back. The two that was still alive reached and yanked out their respective daggers. Forcing themselves to their feet, they snarled at me, eyes twinkling with dark intent. Grabbing his dagger from his belt, Talbott prepared to face them head on when they paused a few feet away.
"Who are you," one of them growled. The prince furrowed his brows, until he heard,
"A person whose not afraid to shot an arrow in between your eyes if you dare threaten to harm the Prince again." Low and smooth. An achingly familiar thick accent. I inhaled sharply.
‘Is that-’
Sure enough, his knight stepped right beside him. Bow and arrow drawn, ready to fire at any given moment. She was wearing her clothes from when Talbott first met her. The one of the assassins laughed.
"You want me to-URK!" The man didn't have a chance to finish his taunt as an arrow found his heart. The remaining man looked terrified.
"I'll give you a chance to fight like man. You. Me. Swords-" dropping her bow, she quickly unsheathed her sword, "Now."
The man did his best not to falter under her cold demand but the look of fear still danced in his eyes. As a way to scare her, the assassin charged first.
Judith was ready for him.
Blow after blow as Talbott could see blurred streaks of silver shine under the moonlight. I eyed the woman wearily.
‘Is she...Is she toying with him?’
He caught a quick glance of her face and sure enough, there was a smirk there. The man trying kicking at her ankles but she was swift enough to jump, giving him a swift spin kick to the face. Talbott hissed as the sickly sound of bones being crack mercilessly reached his sensitive ears. The man cried out in pain, falling to his knees.
"N-N-NO! S-S-STOP!" he cried into his hands. Judging by the slur of his voice, Talbott could safely assume she must've knocked a few teeth out and he was bleeding.
"Gladly," Judith purred, raising her sword above head. The third assassin didn't have time to look at her before she decapitated him. His body dropped and his head rolled in the dirt. Judith reached in her pocket to pull out a cloth, swiping her sword of his blood.
"Are you unharmed, my Prince," she asked offhandedly as she finished.
"I-I-I..." Talbott struggled to find his voice.
‘This small woman managed to take on 3 men on her own. Killing them with ease and grace. How?!’
"Prince Talbott," Judith called, walking up to him. Pale gold eyes studied the prince closely and before the young woman kissed her teeth.
"Bastards," she muttered under breath as she touch his neck. Talbott let out a small hiss at the sudden pressure on the cut.
"Come, let's go before you catch an infection," she said, grabbing his hand. Talbott couldn’t help the blush that flooded his cheeks. Her hand...
Long, elegant fingers. Neatly filed nails. Callouses on her fingers tips and a bit on her palms but still had a level of softness. Just like...
‘Judith Harris...’
