Tumblr media
Ranking 1st in the pre-voting, Chloe's team "THE DREAM" performs first, performing the ultimate kpop classic GEE by Girls Generation! Dawning cheerleading uniforms, the group of eight step out each of them holding a pair of silvery pom-poms.
“5, 6, 7, 8! D-R-E-A-M! Hello, we’re THE DREAM!” The team introduces, all wearing bright smiles and excitement in their eyes. Before the performance starts, an instrumental of GEE plays. The group separates themselves into groups by the color of their uniforms. It plays out like a cheesy 2000's cheer movie, both the teams giving each other overexaggerated dirty looks before Doah steps up initiating a short "cheer off" that ends in the group coming together in a group hug, ending their short lived feud just in time for the song to start.

POSITIONS !
MAIN VOCALIST: CHLOE MAIN DANCER: DOAH MAIN RAPPER: MAISIE LEAD RAPPER: MIKA LEAD DANCER: LOTTIE LEAD VOCALISTs: QIAO, EMIKO CENTER: WOOBIN
THE DREAM ended up becoming quick friends, learning many lessons from each other. Though Chloe's leadership style was strict, running the dance room like the navy, she learned through her teammates that she doesn't need to be in control the whole time. THE DREAM ended their week together as best friends and a tight knit group.
NOTABLE MOMENTS !
Chloe's heartwarming gesture as she grants Woobin the coveted center position, a lesson in relinquishing control.
Woobin dedicates himself to mastering cheer stunts, unaware that they won't be showcased in the final performance.
The thrilling "cheer off" where teams go head-to-head, delivering a fun and laugh worthy "battle" between the red team and yellow team.
THE DREAM forms unbreakable bonds, evolving into best friends and garnering immense adoration from their dedicated fanbases.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES !
CHLOE: 5/5
MIKA: 5/5
LOTTIE: 3/5
QIAO: 4/5

Ranking 2nd in the pre-voting, Lilings team "Heart Attack" performs second, performing the cutest kpop classic Nonono by APINK! Dawning cheerleading uniforms, the group of seven step out in pink tops and denim outfits.
"Boom, boom, shoot! Hello we are heart attack!" The group cheers in unison, all of the doing a hand motion to signify a shoot.

POSTIONS !
riko - lead vocal 2 sunny - main vocal 2 liling - main vocal 1 jinri - sub vocal 2 saero - sub vocal 3 sanghee - sub vocal 1 mingeun - lead vocal 1
The team was a little rocky and the start with lots of arguments over positions that got too heated and hard to control which lead to even more conflict between team members, which was kind of rough and messy at times but once that problem was pushed out of the way and quickly solved by liling everyone was much more calmer and it was just overall easier to get a long once people weren’t at each other’s necks over a few lines, overall it was a coworker to somewhat friends situation!
Liling was actually a pretty good leader for her first time, at first she wasn’t really sure how to resolve conflicts or control the group fairly at all, but as time went by, she progressed and it became easier for her to do so.
She was a little angry at the start and was lowkey annoying but she definitely changed quickly and was back to being sweet & energetic as normal.
Liling clearly struggled to choose parts, especially with the voting system which should’ve made it easier but in fact made it harder but she worked with it and overall, she wasn’t the worst leader ever and made everything come together in the end to create a decent, not anything too crazy, performance.
NOTABLE MOMENTS !
Liling letting everyone lead but herself.
Everyone fighting over positions whilst Sunny is just there egging on all chaos.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES !
LILING: 4/5
SUNNY: 4/5
JINRI: 5/5
RIKO: 4/5
SANHEE: 5/5
SAERO: 5/5
MINGEUN: 4/5

Ranking 3rd in the pre-voting, Oliver's team "MYSTERY INC" performs next, performing the ultimate kpop classic SHERLOCK by Shinee! Dawning matching neutral toned outfits, the group of seven step out waving and bowing politely to the cheering crowd before them.
"Looking for you! Hello, we are Mystery Inc!" The team shouts, jerking into a goofy detective-like pose to mimic the original cartoon. Each of them points in a different direction like they've heard something while Bora jumps in Femme's arms, covering her mouth in faux fright as Femme holds her bridal style, looking around in overexaggerated fear.

POSITIONS !
— MAIN VOCALIST: Zasha — MAIN RAPPER: Sora — LEAD VOCALIST: Oliver — LEAD RAPPER: Cody — SUB VOCAL 1: Yua — SUB VOCAL 2: Bora — SUB VOCAL 3: Femme
With this being the first challenge, everyone was desperate to come out as the front-runner in their team. There was stiff competition for the role of the main vocalist between Zasha and Femme, with Oliver making the harsh decision that, ultimately, Zasha's vocals fit the song better and were more stable in the higher notes.
This led to some tension between them but with Bora's excitement for just being at Shooting Stars and Media Training, playing up some type of team bonding was easy. They were able to work together for the dance aspect of practice, with Cody and Yua providing better support than their team leader could ever dream of.
When it came time for vocals, Oliver was pretty strict in their practices and wanted them to practice singing at any possible point to make sure everything was being hit correctly, with Sora helping with the rap parts. Overall, just some co-workers trying to put on the best show they can and survive into the next round.
Oliver underestimated what being an idol takes for this mission. Though he has the ability to perform on stage easily, he was missing a critical aspect: dancing. He has never been a talented dancer even as a trainee and not keeping up with his few talents lead him to struggle through the dance practices.
If vocals or rap needed any help, Oliver led them in the right direction and was very detailed about pronunciation and making sure the correct notes were being hit. Thankfully, Cody was there to help him lead the team during dance practice and they were able to put on a good show. Also struggled with team motivation and keeping his anxiety under control through most of it, but Oliver is a singer! This is what he loves to do!
NOTABLE MOMENTS!
— Femme vs. Zasha on main vocalist + Zasha glaring at Oliver when he starts to raise his hand for main vocalist. — Cody, Yua, and Oliver going over choreography. — Someone notices the camera and the media training turns On. Everyone's suddenly in a better mood and working together. — Femme being upset about the song so there's that awkward silence edit that mnet loves for survival shows before they start practicing.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES !
OLIVER: 4/5
SORA: 4/5
ZASHA: 5/5
CODY: 4/5
BORA: 3/5
YUA: 5/5
FEMME: 3/5

Ranking 4th in the pre-voting, Finn's team "ELEC6IX" performs next, performing the electrifying hit ELECTRIC SHOCK by F(x)! In the most eye-catching and 2010's accurate outfits, the group steps out with tinsel-decorated hair and neon-colored extensions. They've stayed true to the era to say the least.
Finn looks over his team before clapping his hands. "6 of us! We're ELEC6IX!" The group shouts, making stars with their fingers as they do their intro, some more enthusiastic about it than others.

POSITIONS !
MAIN VOCALIST: FINN MAIN DANCER: JIYEON MAIN RAPPER: ELLIOT LEAD RAPPER: JAX LEAD DANCER: JAX, JISOO, KADIE LEAD VOCALIST: POPPY, KADIE
For what was supposed to be practice, the entire group spent a lot of time on planning their outfits and seeing which hairstyles were the best. The entire group was definitely a huge friend group that loved to have fun. Everyone towards the end got it together but they all had fun! There was an aura of nervousness at first after seeing so many popular idols but it quickly melted away when they actually started talking.
It was very clear from the beginning that Finn is no leader. He did not lead this team at all. Most of the leading was done by other members, Kadie in particular who ended up being the one to teach all the members the choreography two days before the performance.
Kadie was able to handle the entire group despite having only two days left before having to go up on stage. The group thought Finn was insane that he asked if Kadie knew the choreo also two days before they had to go up. But, despite the time crunch, the group was able to get it together and create an amazing stage!
NOTABLE MOMENTS!
Poppy and Finn did fight over the main vocalist position for a little bit but Poppy got a bit too scared so she backed down and let Finn have it.
Them spending the majority of the time planning their outfits and hanging instead of actually practicing
Finn pushing Poppy away from the main vocalist position.
Co-leader Kadie who actually carries the team.
Two days before the performance Finn asking if Kadie knows the choreography because he doesn't.
Flashback sequence to the time Jisoo sneezed in the middle of her lines when deciding positions.
Elliot crying in the corner because he can't learn the choreography despite practicing at home. Que video of Elliot watching F(x) performance videos in the Pushing Daisies living room on his small laptop.
"This is a trainwreck, but at least we look good 😎 " - Kadie, two days before the performance.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES !
FINN: 4/5
ELLIOT: 3/5
KADIE: 5/5
JISOO: 4/5
POPPY: 4/5
JAX: 4/5
JIYEON: 4/5

And finally, ranking 5th in the pre-voting, Yijin's team enterts the stage to perform an underappreciated 2nd generation gem, Fiction by BEAST! There's an intense tension when the team steps on the stage, no one smiling, just wanting to do their job and get it over with.
They get into their beginning positions without a greeting.

POSITIONS !
YIJUN : Leader / Lead vocals JIWON : Main rapper SKYLAR : Lead rapper, Lead dancer VENUS : Main vocal MARS : Center, Main dancer
We had a few conflicting spirts in our group. (Some of it might have been caused by them knowing that they had been picked last) The groups dynamic was Skylar causing drama, adding unnecessary commentary, and generally causing trouble for Yijun and Jiwon, who were trying to lead the other to learn the choreography and lines, the two boys were basically this groups last two strings of sain, stable leadership.
Mars would often say out of pocket things, adding fuel to Skylar fire and would start arguing over small details in the dance, tone of the song. Venus, picking up on the Mayhem that the two were causing also eventually joined in arguing. Her annoyance to receiving criticism just adding more and more conflict to this group.
But in the end. After a long long time, Jiwon and Yijun managed to work things out between them all. Jiwon basically taking control, much to Yijun please (he was having a difficult time)
Yijun isn’t by any means the leader in his group. If anything he the quietest, unspeaking voice. Not because he’s shy but because he doesn’t see his ideas in high regard compared to others. So he tried his hardest to hear everyone’s else’s opinion before he voiced his own. He tried his best but defiantly leaned on Jiwon a lot to help lead the group. He was extremely nervous the entire practice time. But tried his best to conceal it.
NOTABLE MOMENTS !
It was mostly arguing. A lot, a lot of arguing. But I can picture Mars and Venus (the two space names, let’s go) teaming up on Skylar at one point. And bullying him with facts and just common sense into a corner. He most likely would be quiet, mouth zipped, for an entire episode after that one.
INDIVIDUAL SCORES !
YIJUN: 4/5
SKYLAR: 3/5
VENUS: 3/5
MARS: 4/5
JIWON: 5/5

PART ONE … PART TWO … PART THREE
Tumblr media
In this electrifying realm where dreams converge, debuted idols of every gender brace themselves for an arduous battle, united by a single quest—to claim the title of "THE IDOL" and seize their place in the final 6 MEMBER SUPER GROUP!
The stage is set, the stakes are high, and the journey to stardom is about to ignite in an explosion of talent, determination, and untamed passion. Welcome to the arena where shooting stars are born, and destinies are forever rewritten.
The screen goes black, the electric green logo spins onto screen as a shooting star flies above it with a “ding!” when it lands on the end of logo.
Picking up where we left off, the top five picked during the first episode stand in front of the rest of the contestants in a dance room. A board stands behind them, paper taped on it and covering something.
Yijun is still in shock from being picked as one of the top five. His grin never left his face the entire time. He’s not very assertive and would even describe himself as not much of a leader. Despite this, he’s putting a positive attitude towards going to lead his group.
“It wasn’t something that I had expected. Being the youngest in my team means that I don’t get to make a lot of decisions when we’re working together, so now that I have the chance to fill in the lead role is a little nerve-wracking. If we don’t do well, it’s my fault. If I don't keep the group balanced and in good spirits, that’s also my fault.” Liling remarks, using her hands to demonstrate and act out her words. She drops her hands and places them into her lap. “It’s a lot of responsibility, but I trust I can do well. I may not be used to being a leader, but that doesn’t mean I’m not capable of being a good one!”
“When I heard that I had ranked second out of thirty-six contestants, I was honestly frozen in shock. I know it’s only the first round of voting, but it’s an achievement. How many people can say that they ranked second on a survival show? Oh wait—I worded that wrong…” Liling covers her face in embarrassment and attempts to laugh it off behind her hands.
Finn is proud of himself but looks unsure, looking over the contestants in front of him before looking over the other top five contestants.
“I totally know I only got this highly ranked because I’m popular,” Finn spills once in the diary room, picking at his nailbeds. “I wish the reward for ranking high was different…Is being a leader really a reward? Can’t I just pick the song?” Finn laughs nervously, shaking his head. “I’m just not sure how this will go…”
"I'm both nervous and excited to be a leader. I have experience in leading the recordings and preparation of our comebacks, so I think I can do this! It's an honor to just be ranked this high and I think that leading comes naturally with that," Oliver explains. "Learning from those that rank higher, whether it be in terms of music or getting the audience to like you, is really important. Let's just hope I'm a good model," he jokes, crossing his fingers.
The screen fades to Chloe, who had kept her composure quite well for ranking first. She smiles fondly at the contestants in front of her.
"I knew I would at least get into the top ten but first rank? Wow!" Chloe thrills in the diary room, putting both her hands over her heart and smiling brightly. “I’ve always wanted to be a leader…I like telling people what to do.” She laughs with a beaming smile, clearly excited for what’s to come.
The practice room’s doors swing open, making everyone dramatically look behind them. This episode’s hosts walk in, causing everyone to gawk in awe at them.
With a small but cool smile adorning her face, Libby, the standout female member of Stray Kids, enters the room. Positioned to her right is Yoon Sangha, the charismatic main vocalist and face of the group IDYLL, sporting his signature glasses. He gracefully acknowledges the contestants with a polite bow of his head as he and Libby take their place at the front of the room with the team leaders.
Libby's radiant smile fills the room as she greets the idols, instantly igniting a wave of cheers and applause. She chuckles at their enthusiastic reaction, graciously bowing in appreciation. Meanwhile, Sangha maintains his composed and serious demeanor, exuding a professional and commanding aura.
"As your hosts for episode two," Sangha begins, his voice carrying authority, "In the previous episode, it was revealed that the five idols standing before you will have the opportunity to form teams and select a song from the second generation of K-pop."
Libby eagerly joins in, adding, "That's right! Your first challenge is the Rewind challenge! Each team will perform a classic K-pop song chosen by their team leaders." She punctuates her statement with a small fist shake, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Turning her gaze towards the top five contestants, she raises her eyebrows playfully, sporting a knowing smile.
"Now, are you all ready to unveil the songs you've selected?" she asks, the room filled with a mixture of nervous laughter and bubbling excitement. Without hesitation, all of them nod in agreement. Libby claps her hands together, brimming with excitement, and gestures toward Chloe.
"Shall our number one contestant take the lead and reveal their song choice?" she prompts, eagerly awaiting the thrilling moment.
Radiating with joy from the moment she entered the room, Chloe nods, her vibrant red hair swaying as she confidently approaches the pink sheet of paper that conceals her chosen song. With an air of casual familiarity, she addresses the gathered contestants, her words laced with playful camaraderie as if they were long-time friends, rather than acquaintances of just a few hours. Observing their reactions, she raises an eyebrow, her smile gradually returning.
"Now, I've selected the epitome of classic K-pop girl group songs. If you don't know this song... What on earth are you doing here? This song is the very essence of K-pop itself," Chloe declares, her tone nonchalant yet brimming with a subtle challenge. She relishes in the anticipation of their response, her smile slowly reemerging.
"May I have a drumroll, please?" Chloe sweetly requests, casting her gaze upon the crowd. Without skipping a beat, Jax promptly begins tapping his thighs, setting off an infectious rhythm that spreads like wildfire, as the rest of the contestants join in, filling the room with an exhilarating drumroll-like beat. Chloe giggles with excitement, raising her hands triumphantly.
"And the song is... 'Gee' by Girls' Generation!" The room erupts in a chorus of gasps and applause. Jisoo's face lights up with pure joy upon hearing the song's title, unable to contain her excitement, she grabs Sunny's arm beside her, both of them sharing a moment of excitement.
The second that Gee is mentioned, Sora has to stop herself from not shouting out. She considers herself to be the biggest Sone in the world, she’s been there since the start, when she was only 7 years old dancing to Into The New World as it played on television.
“I would give anything to be on that team. I mean, it’s Gee! That’s like, the most iconic song to have ever been released. And I’ve been practicing it like, literally since the day it dropped. SNSD are, like, the reason I’m even on this show right now.”
In the diary room, Doah smiles excitedly when asked about the song choices, clasping her hands together animatedly. "I think it's safe to say that a song like "Gee" is something I've already proved I'm capable of — My solo work is proof of that!" She says confidently, giving a sweet giggle towards the camera.
A genuine squeal slips past Mika's lips as GEE is announced as one of the songs that is going to be performed for this challenge. Having been quoted on multiple occasions claiming that Girls' Generations was one of the main reasons she ever even pursued an interest in music and performing, it comes as a shock to no one that she would be bouncing off the walls in excitement to perform such an iconic song.
As soon as Gee was announced. Woobin looked ecstatic. Doing the dance in small excitedly. Zasha laughs at him doing the dance, joining him in doing the chorus with an excited smile.
Liling approaches the board, looking a lot more nervous than Chloe had when she approached the board.
In a flashback sequence, we see Liling sit down, her legs folded up to her chest as she tapped the notebook she was holding with a pen she had found somewhere random. Being a team leader sounded cool, but she had no idea what song she was meant to pick out. There were many concepts that stood out to her, but she also had to think about her group members and what song would fit all of them. Liling wanted something that would make each and every one of them stand out, leaving someone out or letting someone take over the performance too much, wasn't the way she wanted to lead her team.
She flipped the page backward to one that was decorated with large lettering that said ‘pick a song’ with a list underneath. Liling had almost forgotten that she had come prepared in case there was a moment when she needed to pick a song out. Scanning through the names on the list, she came to the conclusion that none of the options suited what she was looking for. She tossed the notebook into a corner and groaned unhappily, rubbing her eyelids.
When back in the present and dance room, Liling smiles at the contestants, pinching the lilac purple paper between her fingers and ripping it down.
“I’ve picked Nonono by APINK!” Liling cheers, causing the contestants to cheer out as well.
Maisie is excited as she listens to all of the songs being announced. She loves most of them and had long ago taught herself all of the dances either as a trainee or when she was little. her face immediately brightens as Gee and Nonono are called out, she loves those two songs the most out of all of the songs on the list.
Jinri listens as each song is announced, making a face as gee and nonono are said, though nodding the whole way through. Jinri immediately knows that Gee and Nonono are far too cutesy for her, she hates trying to do cute concepts but she can if she needs to, she has done it before.
Mingeun is less than thrilled to hear two girl group songs announced first. He doesn't look bored, but he's obviously not the most engaged.
Oliver approaches the board, looking at the mint green paper then at the crowd of awaiting contestants.
Hearing that the mission was based on second and third-generation songs, Oliver already had a song in his head: Sherlock by SHINee. Though he did not know much about K-pop before moving to Seoul and joining his company, this was the first song he fell in love with and learned as a trainee. It would give him an edge over the other contestants and if he secured the main vocal part, hopefully keep himself in the top six.
With a small smirk on his face and a dramatic rip down of the paper, he announces to the group, "The song we'll be doing is... SHINee's iconic Sherlock. I think that not only can it showcase our talents in any field, but making a concept around Sherlock is pretty easy. We could make this a really good performance that the fans would like."
When the third song is announced to be SHINee's "Sherlock," then he straightens up in his seat, paying attention again. Mingeun does his best to telepathically convey to Oliver that he needs to perform this song more than he needs to breathe. He ignores the next two captains, still thinking about "Sherlock," moving his hands through a miniaturized version of the choreography.
Kadie was excited for all of the songs. Each one was by an artist she knew and respected, and even her seniors from her company. While she would prefer to not perform Gee for the 20 millionth time, she wouldn't mind making Taeyeon proud. If it were up to her, Kadie would much rather be on the Sherlock team, as she had been working in a group with Taemin and would feel more comfortable with his dancing style.
As the songs were being announced, Skylar's ears perked up at the sound of Sherlock. Looking around, he observed the other participants' reactions. In a soft, barely audible whisper, he muttered: “I really want to get Sherlock”
Sunny nods with faux excitement for Sherlock, hoping she doesn’t get that song.
“I don’t like doing boy group songs,” Sunny tells the camera in the diary room, shaking her head. “It’s just not me. No shade but if he picks me I’m going to have to fake an injury. I don’t have that range.”
With a wide grin spreading across his face, Finn directs his attention towards the crowd, relishing in the moment as he prepares to unveil his chosen song. Taking hold of the pale blue paper, he lets out a soft sigh, adding a touch of theatricality by placing a hand over his heart.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have a confession to make," Finn announces, his tone filled with a hint of melodramatic flair. Swiftly adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose, he brings his hand back to his heart, emphasizing the significance of his forthcoming revelation. "This very song holds a special place in my heart. This was the song I auditioned with when I first wanted to be a trainee. It is the most unique yet perfect KPOP... And that song is none other than..." With a momentary pause, he averts his gaze, heightening the suspense, before tearing down the paper in one swift motion. Suddenly, a radiant smile illuminates his face as he turns towards the crowd, brimming with enthusiasm. "It's 'Electric Shock' by f(x)!"
The song is announced, Electric Shock by f(x), Jisoo's eyes widen and she starts clapping.
As the captains took turns announcing their song choices, Saero's eyes lit up with anticipation. When f(x)'s "Electric Shock" was announced, a delighted grin spreads across Saero's face. It was perfectly suited to showcase her charisma and stage presence, as well as just being a good song. She couldn't help but imagine herself owning the stage, captivating the audience with every 'electrifying' move.
When Riko hears the songs listed, her ears immediately perk up at Finn’s choice. Her lips form into a thin line, listening to the captain speak. She holds her piece until she’s in the diary room.
“I really want to be on Finn’s team. I’ve always been a huge fan of F(x), and Electric Shock is one of my favorite songs. When I was in Japan when I was younger, F(x) was the first K-Pop group I stanned,” she admits. “I’d be happy if I could perform a song by them.”
Jinri perks up a bit when Electric shock is announced, clearly being one of her favorites. Jinri immediately knows that Gee and Nonono are far too cutesy for her, she hates trying to do cute concepts but she can if she needs to, she has done it before. She is far more comfortable in other concepts, especially since she debuted. Electric shock catches her attention quickly, she’s always loved f(x)’s music and has performed their songs many times when she was a trainee.
Zasha looks ecstatic at the song choice, shaking Elliot in excitement with a quiet squeal that makes her bounce in her seat.
“E-Electric shock!” Zasha sings in the diary room, beginning to do the choreography in her seat.
And finally, Yijun approaches the board, wasting no time by grabbing the red paper and ripping it down. Yijun turns around, spinning on his heel to face the group who is already cheering and “ooh”ing at his song choice.
“I've picked Fiction by beast” Yijun announces.
“I just really don’t want to sing a boy group song,” Sora says. “I think they’re all excellent songs, but I’ve never practiced a boy group song in an official setting before, so it’s like, the one thing I haven’t gotten any feedback on. I guess I have a strong image in the context of Chemical X, but you know, that’s so relative…”
“I just hope I don’t get Fiction because then I’ll really be fiction...no? Was that too corny? Okay, sorry,” Doah chuckles. “But I would look ridiculous trying to pull of Fiction, don’t you think?” She then begins to do the choreography to Fiction in a butchered fashion but doesn’t get to finish before the camera cuts off from her.
Maisie thinks over all of the songs, knowing fiction is the song that she wants the least, she just can’t imagine herself performing it.
“I’ve never listened to a Fiction song,” Elliot admits in the diary room, looking up the song on his phone. “I’ll be honest…I don’t listen to a lot of KPOP. I don’t know if that’s weird but my knowledge on the genre is so limited.” He admits as he waits for the video to play.
Poppy was surprised and happy with all of the song choices. As a SONE, she would fight anyone to perform ‘Gee’ but wouldn’t mind if she wasn’t chosen for the song. She also hopes that she won't get chosen for ‘Sherlock’ or ‘Fiction’. As much as she loved the songs, the choreo was quite intense and it would’ve been really hard for her to follow along.
“Now that you all know the songs,” Libby says over the chatter of the crowd, causing everyone to fall silent. Sangha finishes cleaning his glasses as Libby speaks, clearing his throat once he slides the glasses back over the bridge of his nose.
“Our team leaders will pick their teams. Chloe first, Liling second, and so on, and so on.” Sangha tells everyone before he motions to Chloe to begin picking her team. Chloe lets out an excited squeal, making a few contestants laugh as she bounces to the center of the room, looking over all the faces.
“I already knew who I was picking,” Chloe admits in the diary room, “I just had to be dramatic.”
“Mika!” Chloe announces after a second’s thought.
Mika practically runs over to Chloe when she picks her to join her team. Not only will she be able to perform her top pick song of GEE but she also gets to be in a group with someone she considers to be her sister. Since joining the show and finding out Chloe would also be participating, Mika has relied heavily on the older girl due to the time they spent on Produce 101 and in IOI together.
The girls hug for a few beats before Mika stands behind Chloe proudly, bouncing on her heels excitedly.
“Qiao!” Chloe calls, pointing to the girl in the crowd. She's surprised to say the least, as Chloe has been the one to choose it, and she has ranked the highest, and she takes it as an honor to be picked by her.
Of course, Qiao takes her time looking at the team, not giving her opinion out loud on it, but she's happy. She couldn't not be, since she barely knows those idols, or any other idol in there, besides the audition tapes, and she of course was really pleased by her teammates' and what they showed, so she was without a doubt confident in them winning the first round.
Chloe looks around for a second before her gaze lands on Maise, pointing to her next. “Maise!”
Maisie’s smile lights up when she hears Chloe call out her name. she’s ecstatic, practically bouncing to be chosen and to be one of her top choices as well! She wasn’t sure that she would even be picked by one of the team captains based on her ranking, though she couldn’t imagine it going any better than it did. She looks around at her groups and knows from their audition tapes and from the performances she’s seen them do over the years that they are all very talented and she knows that they would be able to make a great performance together.
“Doah, Lottie, and Emiko!” Chloe chooses next. When Chloe picks her to join her team, Doah will bow enthusiastically towards the girl, giving her a genuine, beaming smile before blowing her a playful kiss.
"Thank you!" She says excitedly, unable to hide the pride she feels upon being picked by the idol who ranked first place.
“Anddd….” Chloe looks around with a pout as if she’d unsure but she knows exactly what she’s doing. She points to Woobin, smiling at the boy when his eyes widen up her, pointing to himself in surprise. Chloe laughs, nodding.
“And Woobin!” Chloe cheers, the crowd clapping at the first team being chosen.
Looking at his team, Woobin was very happy. He’d gotten the song he wanted and the fan favorite (number 1 contestant) had picked him. In his eyes, there was nothing to be upset about. Not only that but he had managed to place pretty high among the 36 contestants.
Liling walks to the front of the room as Chloe and her team exit, presumably to start practicing and planning. Liling stares at the group in front of her.
“I thought that I should pick people I want to know better, but I also had to distribute positions effectively.” She drums her fingers on her thighs, explaining her reasoning. “Then I thought ‘Actually, I’ll just see how it goes’ and that’s how I did it.” Her eyes scan the group for a bit longer, seemingly searching for someone. “Oh that’s right, even before the show started I wanted to pick Oliver or Chloe for my team if I ever got the chance to be a team leader. I forgot the fact that they could be leaders too. Don’t get the wrong idea, I like everyone here, I just wanted to get to know those two better.” She shrugs slightly.
“Um…” Liling licks her lips in thought before finally figuring out who she wants.
“Jinri, Sunny, Riko, Mingeun, Sanghee, and Saero!”
“I don’t know if I wanna do this show anymore” Sanghee joked in the diary room, covering her face with her hands. Sanghee’s team had announced the song they would perform was Nono by Apink. You could see her face drop, as she slightly laughed at the news. “Man, I wish I was performing Electric Shock..”
Back in the diary room, Sanghee frowned at the camera. Quickly she smiled again unable to hold it back. “Obviously I’m kidding. I wouldn’t say I’m bad at the cute concept, when I first became a trainee, I was desperate to debut in a cute group actually. I’ve grown out of it, that’s all.” Sanghee rambled on to the camera, she has always been quite talkative.
When Jinri name is called, she smiles, though it doesn’t fully reach her eyes. she’s glad someone wanted to pick her and she didn’t end up as the leftovers, that would have been humiliating. Though, she has a hard time trying to imagine herself performing Nonono. She doesn't know how she’ll fit into the performance, but she does know that she will try her best to make it work.
Jinri looks around at the rest of her team and nods, they’re mostly very talented and she could see them being able to make a good performance. she knows that she could have ended up far worse, so she tries to keep herself thinking of the positives.
Mingeun's first reaction is slightly palpable relief, evident in the way he relaxes slightly. It’s also almost as if he was expecting to be picked, not doing much more than a nod of acknowledgment towards Liling.
His second reaction is that of despair, obviously less than enthused to be performing “No No No.” When he thinks there aren’t any cameras focused on him, he puts his head in his hands in disappointment.
Saero's satisfaction with being chosen by Liling was obvious. She saw her team selection as a chance to thrive and prove herself, fueling her determination to make their performance remarkable. Saero admired Liling's talent and respected her abilities, so being picked by her held a special significance. In that moment, Saero's eyes sparkled with joy as she made her way to join her new team. "I'm thrilled to be a part of your team, Liling," she confesses. "Let's work well together."
Riko’s eyes widen and she purses her lips when she hears that Liling picked her to be on her team. Once again, she holds her piece until she gets into the diary room, opting to be professional only at that very moment.
“I don’t have a problem with Liling at all. In fact, I think she was the smartest one on the entire show for picking me to be on her team,” Riko says. “I just wished she would’ve chosen a different song,” she whines a little.
“I like Apink, really, I do. But I think we could’ve had something that showcases more than just being...cutesy,” she continues. “Cutesy isn’t really my thing anymore,” Riko shrugs. “I’ve had enough.” “I just hope she doesn’t think she can control me or anything. I could really be co-captain.”
Sunny looks ecstatic to be on Liling’s team, beaming brightly and covering her mouth in surprise when she’s picked. It makes sense to put her on the cutesy team she assumes, she is in one of the most well-known “cutesy” groups of the 4th gen. She does some of the ‘Nonono’ choreography as she goes to join her teammates, giving Liling an appreciative hug before looking her teammates over.
This could either go really well or badly for Oliver. He's not the most well-versed in the pop side of the industry, choosing to inside remain closer to his roots in the indie and rock scene. Looks at everyone in front of him and from the few details he knows about their groups, he has a few ideas bouncing around his head. As both Chloe and Liling make their choices, he only wishes to have a piece of paper to cross off his choices and replace him.
When it gets to him, Oliver announces the first three trainees easily since they had been in his roster of early picks. "For my team," he holds the microphone with both hands, close to his mouth, and just hopes he does not come across as nervous or frazzled. "I choose Sora, Zasha, Cody..." Oliver trails off for a second and glances at the trainees left in front of him. He's always been bad at making choices. "Bora, Yua and Femme."
Zasha blinks in shock when she hears her name called, looking at Elliot with a bewildered look before back at Oliver.
“I didn’t really see myself being on Oliver’s team,” Zasha admits in the diary room, looking around with a pucker of her lips. “I’m happy to work with Sora though…I don’t know. She looks so cool and I love cool girls,” Zasha says as a clip of her looking Sora over with a fond smile on her lips plays. “And I’m excited to see what Yua is all about. She’s cool too. A lot of cool girls on this team…Oliver is so unique for that.” She laughs, crossing her legs over one another.
As the Gee and Nonono selections pass by and Sora’s name isn’t called, she visibly becomes more and more deflated. She’d really wanted one of those songs, but when she’s the first to be chosen for Sherlock, she can’t bring herself to be mad and is instead honored to be someone’s first choice. Sora keeps some pep in her step as she makes her way across the room, mostly just happy that she wasn’t one of the spares left waiting until the very end. She offers Oliver a fist bump as she falls in line.
“Well,” Sora sighs in the diary room, laughing a little at the irony of ending up in a boy group team. “I might have just made some good television, so at least there’s that.” She bursts out laughing, dropping her face into her hands. “I love this song, and Oliver is so sweet for picking me, but now I’m scared I’m gonna let him down. I really hope I can do this justice…”
It feels good to picked, especially by someone who’s musical abilities, she actually admires. When Oliver says her name, Yua smiles a bit up at him and the initial anxiety of it all leaves her body and it sets in who her team is.
Everyone is powerful in their own way. She looks around at all her teammates, as she fiddles with her fingers and she feels good for once. The loyalty sets in for her, and she takes a look at the whole team before letting out a real smile for the first time all day. She’s not letting anyone beat her or anyone else on this team. She knows her role here, and she's be the bad guy if she has to be, and maybe a bit of her wants to be, as she looks at all the other teams.
Cody looks around the diary room before speaking, his face giving away that he was extremely proud. “I’m pretty happy to be on Oliver’s team, I literally boasted about it to Liling and she was a little mad, but it was funny to me!” He laughs, covering his mouth to stop himself from being too loud. “Yeah no, I’m pretty excited to perform and everything, I’m sure we’ll do well.” Cody finishes, folding his arms over the other.
Bora smiles brightly when she hears that Oliver picked her. “Thank you!” She bows immediately to him, clapping with excitement.
Finn is panicking. His eyes getting wider and wider with every choice every contestant before him makes.
“I’ll be honest…Chloe and Liling took at least half my team out and the Oliver took my whole team. Like, I really had the dream team built in my head and now I’m just panicking looking over everyone in the room because–” Finn shrugs dramatically, stopping his fast paced anxious rambles. “What the hell do I do now?”
Finn walks to the center of the room, smiling nervously at the group of people. He only spots a few people he knows, blinking a few times with a small sigh.
“Kadie, Elliot, Jiyeon…” He trails off after that, looking at his pool of choices with an unsure shrug, looking the most confused he’s ever looked on camera. He scratches his head, chewing the inside of his cheek.
“Poppy, Jax, and Jisoo.” Finn finally announces with a deep breath like a weight was taken off his shoulders.
Elliot skips over when he’s called, towering over Finn when he comes over and shakes the boy excitedly by his shoulders.
“Zasha is going to be so pissed,” Elliot laughs in the diary room, “I knew he would pick me but my feelings were a little hurt when I didn’t get picked for Sherlock. I don’t know…I just feel I have a ‘Shinee stan’ look to me but I won’t hold it against Oliver. He looked scared as hell up there,” Elliot chuckles, shrugging softly. “Electric shock is cooler anyways!”
Poppy was surprised that she was even picked in the first place. Even by Finn who was one of her favorite members in DeepDive. She was mainly shocked for the rest of the time and couldn’t believe that she was a member of the team. Her other members were super well known and popular by the industry so it felt like she was a part of the Avengers.
Kadie is pleased to be chosen to perform a song by her seniors F(X). She's excited to learn more about the other idols on her team. She was a little upset that it took them so long to pick her, but at least she was picked!
Jisoo’s name gets called in Finn’s group. She likes the songs and the other contestants so she's pretty happy. You can see her trying to contain her smile as the other contestants are being chosen.
Jiyeon sighs as she hears her name called as the last in Finn's team. She robotically makes her way to the rest of the team, and once there she absentmindedly fixes her hair and smooths her clothing.
“And the remaining contestants, Skylar, Venus, Mars, Jiwon, and Wave will be on Yijun’s team,” Libby tells the remaining idols, the camera panning to Yijun smiling softly, waving small to his group mates.
Mars didn’t care that she was not picked, she was relieved in fact. She was a little sad she wasn’t going to be performing a cuter song but that’s okay. She was a little nervous now that she was surrounded by new people, she was finally starting to feel a little anxious. “I didn’t mind not being picked, it made things easier in my opinion. I don’t really have an opinion on my team yet…” she spoke in the diary room. She quickly looked up, as if she had some big realization, “There is someone else with a planet name though! Venus!”
Venus feels agitated, mostly with herself. With a placement that seems low to her own standards on top of not being picked, she is more than displeased. She doesn’t take “failure” well, especially when she believes what she’s done was nothing short of amazing. Venus keeps her posture and crosses her legs with a solemn expression.
Skylar bit the inside of his cheek, he tried his best to keep a neutral expression but the longer he spent looking out on his teammates the more uneasy he felt. He didnt want to be on this team.
The song was okay, but knowing he hadn't been picked by any of the other team leaders and had instead been automatically placed on a team with Yijun made his blood boil. Not getting the song he wanted, plus not being picked, and, to top it all off, being on the same team as his hyung who had not only been voted top 5 but also had been extra annoying since he got that ranking.
Oh, he was pissed off.
The camera transitions to a new room, where the hosts are now positioned against a starry backdrop. Their appearance has undergone a transformation, with different hairstyles, makeup, and more professional outfits.
"Now that the teams have been chosen," Sangha declares, sticking to his script, "it's time for them to showcase their songs and for you to vote for the best performance!" Libby smiles and acknowledges her co-host's words.
With utmost professionalism, Libby addresses the camera, explaining the process, "The team that receives the highest number of votes will be granted immunity from elimination. Then, a second round of voting will take place, resulting in the elimination of the bottom five teams."
"Stay tuned to cast your vote for your favorite team!" Sangha and Libby exclaim in unison, waving at the camera as the screen gradually fades to black.
As the show's outro begins, seamlessly transitioning, a commercial for a candy bar airs.

PART ONE … PART TWO … PART THREE
Tumblr media
The Shooting Star intro plays briefly, the logo spinning on screen before disbursing in a burst of bright white, bringing the viewers back to the showroom. The contestants are still sitting in numbered plastic chairs on the other side of the room, the pyramid of more decorative seats empty and daunting. Some constants chatter amongst each other while others sit quietly, waiting for their ranks to be announced.
The shot fades to Jacob and Piper, both with professional smiles on and looking into the camera.
“First, we are going to announce the bottom ten just to get it over with,” Jacob starts, moving behind a podium with Piper to read off the list of contestants.
“Rank 36th…Jiang Xifeng.”
Xifeng hangs her head when her name is called, hesitating to get up because of how embarrassing this was for her. The camera gets the reactions of Jiyeon and Woobin, both looking somewhat surprised by the former Wayv member's low rank.
“Maybe it’s because she’s been gone for so long,” Jiyeon guesses in the diary room as Xifeng takes her spot in the last chair at the bottom of the pyramid.
“I mean,” Sunny shrugs in the diary room, “At least we know she’s not a threat? Sucks for her though. That’s embarrassing.”
Jacob watches Xifeng’s walk of shame before shaking his head with a sharp inhale through his teeth.
“Ah, let’s liven this up! Now announcing the tenth rank!” Jacob cheers, causing Piper to look slightly stunned by the sudden switching that wasn’t scripted. The contestants cheer at the sudden switch, a shot of Chloe beaming in excitement showing before the camera switches to Doah bouncing in her chair. Cute sound effects play over the girls being excited.
“Rank tenth…Park Mika!” Jacob announces in a booming voice. Piper claps excited, a bright smile on her doll-like face as she gives Mika a thumbs up before the camera cuts to her.
Mika lets a rather large smile make its way to her face when she hears Jacob announce her rank. She was hoping to rank higher but knowing this is only the first episode, Mika just shrugs it off and skips her way up to her seat. Glancing side to side at all the contestants seated in front of her, Mikyung makes sure to send encouraging looks to the idols she considers her friends.
Sitting down in the tenth seat gives the blonde flashbacks to her time on Produce 101, everything about this seeming all too similar to the insanely popular show. Mika had placed fifteenth during the first ranking of Produce 101 so you could say she did better this time but the difference in the number of contestants may make that debatable.
"Am I disappointed with my rank?" Mika takes a second to ponder the question before giving the camera a small smile, "Yeah. You could say I am a little disappointed." She sits up straighter after saying this, waving her hand quickly in front of her in a dismissive movement.
"Don't take that the wrong way though! I am so grateful for placing so highly this early on! I just wish I could have done more to show off what I am capable of and impress the audience more than I did."
“Now that the mood is lifted, let’s go back to the bottom ten,” Piper says, keeping her tone light. “At rank 35th…Sim Jisoo.”
The ranks are announced and Jisoo’s heart starts to speed up, waiting and waiting she gets her rank.
Second to last, Jisoo can't help but feel disappointed but knows that this is just the start of her journey and there are still many opportunities for her.
"I can't say I didn't expect it but from now on I'll try my best to fight for my rank, for Eclipse and Estelles," she says with a small smile.
“Rank 9th…” Jacob pauses dramatically, “Son Sora!”
Sora’s face twists in surprise as she hears her rank, her jaw dropping a little. Although she had ranked lower than her label had wanted her to do, she was well aware that she had messed up in her audition and was very much expecting to drop down the ranks, not least since so many Motor fans seemed to have it out for Chemical X.
In the diary room, Sora pushes her hair back with a cheerful grin on her face, her hand spreading out across her chest as she sighs in relief. “God, I so thought I was gonna fall out of the top ten. Nine! I’m so happy!”
With a quick bow to the camera as a show of gratitude, Sora hops out of her seat and makes her way over to the ninth position.
“Thank you to everybody who voted for me!” Sora says, back in the diary room. “I promise I’ll make sure you don’t regret it. Next time, I’ll show you a Sora you can be even prouder of!”
“Can we do random order?” Piper asks with a hopeful grin, hoping to mix things up. When giving the nod of approval by producers, she turns back to the camera, beaming brightly. “Rank 20th, Doah!”
Doah bounces to her feet at the announcement of her rank, giving the camera another graceful bow as she excitedly thanks the audience for their votes. "I'll do my best to rank even higher for my fans!" She says brightly, shooting another string of playful finger hearts to the camera before she takes her seat in the chair marked with "twenty".
Doah shrugs nonchalantly at the camera when the producer asks for her opinion on the rank. "I'm just happy I was within the top 20," she says with a forced, but convincing smile. "I just hope I can prove to the audience I am worthy of a higher placement in the next round." she gestures towards the camera with her thumbs up, another beaming smile gracing her lips as she speaks to the audience. "I'll show you everything I have! Please keep rooting for me!"
“Rank 24th,” Jacob announces, mixing up the ranks like Piper had, causing the girl to smile softly. “Mars!”
Mars hummed, hearing her rank was 24. Her expressions aren’t always clear, and her face remained blank as she slightly bent over, trying to peak at who was near her seat.
“24 is also a cool number I guess,” She shrugged, with false positivity coating her smooth voice as she spoke to the camera in the diary room.
Back in the showroom, she slowly raised from her seat, taking gentle steps to her seat. Once reaching the chair, she took a seat after bowing at the contestants around her.
“Rank 16th…Aespa’s Qiao!”
Qiao looked at the camera in surprise, as she had truly expected to be in a lower rank, even if she had been sitting close to it, yet she got up and walked to the rank she was given, bowing to the idol seating on her spot, and then sat down on the chair as she smiled widely.
“I didn't expect such a high ranking. I know MY's are amazing and always give their best, but there are a lot of great idols with a lot of talent here, and I… could have done better.” She confessed in the diary room as she looked down for a few seconds, swinging her legs for a few seconds before looking up. “But I'm in the top twenty, so it seems I've done things well.”
“Rank 12th…Cody!”
Cody’s expression immediately changes to one of surprise, with his mouth wide open as he lets the words register in his brain.
“I know what you’re thinking, yes I was shocked and yes I was expecting a little lower. But what can I say, I guess my charms really did work.” He shrugs, grinning softly. “If you really think about it, 12th is an acceptable ranking. I'm just glad I'm nearer to the top and nowhere near the bottom, must suck to be ranked last.” Cody responds to his own words, sending a few jabs to those who ranked lower than him.
It transitions back to Cody, still silently thanking fans as he moves a few seats across from his original pick.
“Rank 6th…Zasha!”
Zasha’s stunned face fills the screen, her jaw dropped in shock as Elliot pats her back a little too harshly but she’s too stunned to even notice. For a minute, it doesn’t seem like she’s going to get up but she snaps herself back into reality, standing quickly and bowing to the camera as she begins walking up to almost top five.
“I was…really close!” Zasha says in shock once in the diary room, looking around the room like it’s a setup. “I thought I was going to be 11th maybe 13th but 6th? That’s amazing. Oh my god,” She puts her hands over her heart as a bright smile takes over her pretty face. “They like me! Wow!” Zasha laughs, looking at the camera and waving cutely.
Once sat in her chair, she makes a heart with her hands before blowing a kiss to the camera, giving a sweet thank you to her fans.
“Rank 7th…Woobin!”
Woobin is pleased with he rank. And he grins happily towards the host. Moving towards his seat he makes himself comfy in number seven. crossing his legs one over the other.
“Rank 15th…Sunny!”
Sunny doesn’t look pleased but she doesn’t look displeased. She forces a smile as she stands, bowing politely as she makes her way to the 15th chair.
“I’ll never hear the end of this on Twitter,” She laughs in the diary room, rubbing the inner corner of her eye with a groan. “I just have to prove myself! Which I will do!” Sunny vows, wagging her finger with every word and a smile growing on her face. She nods toward to camera with a thin smile. “Look forward to a better Sunny soon!”
“Rank 34th…Yua!”
Sure, Yua’s upset, and of course she’s going to leave and cry a little bit but she’s absolutely not going to give any producer that satisfaction.
“Hey, at least I’m not 35 or 36. I’d probably quit right now.” She shrugs in the diary room after she takes her seat.
“Rank 11th…Skylar!”
Skylar opens his mouth slightly. His eyebrows furrowed and his eyes narrowed dangerously. Standing, he unwillingly made his way to his seat at no.11. His complexion did not change until he and the rest of his competitors had sat down in their respective seats.
He bit his lip uneasily, chewing away at it while his eyes scanned where everyone had moved to. He felt extremely uneasy.
In the diary room, Skylar stood straight up, his face still holding an uneasy look. “I'll try harder next time,” he muttered. Bowing deeply. “Please look for my improvement.”
“Rank 14th…Riko!”
At the calling of her rank, Riko furrows her brows, her face contorting into a nasty mug. She stays there longer than needed before she finally makes her way to her seat, putting force into every step she takes. She sits down, still with an irritated look on her face. For the rest of the ranking period, she sits with a scowl and her arms tensely folded.
“Number 14,” Riko plainly says. “I thought I would’ve at least been top ten…fourteen, really?” She lets a few beats of silence pass before shaking her head in disapproval. “I can’t believe this—this is total bull-crap!”
“I’m not used to having such little lines. I’m used to having all of them,” she chuckles. “But seriously, fourteen is crazy. “I haven’t been fourteen in anything…except age, when I was fourteen,” Riko laughs. “But seriously let’s do better next time. Fourteen…is not giving. What an ugly number.”
“Rank 8th…Elliot!”
Elliot beams brightly, lifting his hands in the air like he just crossed the finish line at a marathon. Zasha and Finn’s cheers can be heard off screen, one more obnoxious than the other, as Elliot stands from his seat and makes his way to the 8th chair.
“Rank eighth…That’s a good ass number,” Elliot nods, smiling proudly to himself with his hands in his hoodie pocket. “I'm happy with it. I’m shooting for number 6 but I’m really happy with 8th. Thank you so much!”
Elliot sits down with a bright smile, tapping his feet excitedly. While there, sSoryhe turns to where Elliot sits in 8th and gives him a thumbs up, despite the fact she doesn’t really know him- she’s just excited. Elliot gives her one back before offering a high five which she gladly accepts, hitting the boy’s hand with a cute “woo!” that makes Elliot chuckle softly.
“Rank 25th…Sanghee!”
The announcement of rankings finally began, Sanghee carefully watched each contestant as the got their rank, studying their reaction to get some sort of idea on the person. When Sanghee had heard the number 25, and her name, she would lie if she said she was happy. Yet she wasn’t shocked, as much more familiar and popular faces sat in this room beside her.
“It kinda sucked, I like being number 1 at things but like I said before, I’m still a rookie or whatever” Sanghee sighed, her eyes showed disappointment but her voice was bright as ever and she shrugged at the camera, a small smile painting her face “It is what it is!”
Sanghee stood from her seat, her heels clicking on the floor as she strutted to seat number 25. Her face showed all her confidence as she wore her signature smirk, plopping down on the seat. There was no point in sulking, so she owned it, and was just relieved she didn’t rank last.
“Rank 29th…Jinri!”
When Jinri’s name is called out, her face scrunches up in disbelief. She stares up for a second, almost not believing the low number, but comes to her senses and gets up from her seat, making her way to her new one.
She says nothing as she does it and the disappointment is evident on her face as she moves. She sits down in her new seat slowly, her face pursed in anger and her arms crossed over her chest while she listens to the other rankings be called. In the diary room, jinri’s anger is more prominent.
“I mean, I’m shocked that I ranked so low, I would have thought I would have been much higher.” She shrugs, trying to look like the rank isn’t affecting her, but it clearly is. “God, I hate being low,” She mumbles to herself, running a hand through her hair before looking back to the camera and putting on a smile.
“I guess I’ll just have to try better next time and all of that stuff. I’m gonna make them see that I should have been much higher,” she tells the camera with a nod. “I’ll be much higher next time.”
“Rank 33…Maisie!”
Maisie’s face drops when her ranking is read. She quickly replaces it was a smile, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. She nods her head and silently gets up from her seat, making her way down to her new one, sitting down lightly. She tries to keep the smile on while she listens to the rest of the names be called, though there are times when she finds it falling.
“I guess I just thought I’d rank higher,” Maisie sighs while talking to the camera in the diary room. She’s looking down at her hands that are sitting in her lap, picking at her nails nervously. “You’d think after being in a survival show before I’d be used to getting my feelings hurt by rankings,” she laughs, looking back at the camera. She isn’t crying, but she looks like she might start.
“I don’t know, I guess it just sucks.” Maisie pauses, staring off into space for a moment before nodding to herself.
“I’ll do better next time,” she says, trying to convince herself of it. “I need to do better, I didn’t do enough this time, but I still have time to do better.”
“Rank 3…Oliver!”
It's like Oliver's body moves on autopilot. Of all the ranks he was expecting, even reaching the top six was not in his plans. Third? Not even a consideration.
He can almost picture his face—the same one he pulls each time they won on a music show. Eyes wide, blinking a few times, and eyebrows raised. He had enough sense not to let his jaw fall open as Oliver attempted to regain himself. This was taking a completely different turn than he was expecting and it was only the first shooting, walking towards the much higher seat.
"I was expecting like... I don't even know, eighteenth place? At best?" Oliver laughs, recalling the shock that he had felt at that moment. "Third was nowhere near my predictions and you can see it on my face like I was already preparing myself for elimination in the first episode that's how shocked I was," he shakes his head before moving on from the memory.
"I'm super grateful to the people that voted for me. I hope to show an even better side of myself to you and will not let anyone down," he beams.
“Rank 19th…Saero!”
As the hosts announce the ranks, Saero anxiously awaits her turn. And then she hears it. 19th. It was not the number she had hoped for, and disappointment flickers across her face. Her lips pull into a deep frown, and Saero can't hide the obvious chagrin on her face. She takes a deep breath, composing herself as she makes her way toward her seat. Her steps feel heavy, but she maintains her posture, not allowing any more of her disappointment to show. As she reaches her designated spot, she sits down, shoulders squared, and put on a brave face.
Saero's voice carries a hint of resilience as she speaks to the camera.
"So, you won't believe it. The ranks were announced, and well, I'm not exactly where I wanted to be. But hey, setbacks are just setups for comebacks, right? It's not about where you start; it's about where you finish." She pauses for a moment, collecting her thoughts. "Sure, I may be 19th right now, but that's just a number. I have so much more to offer. I'm not going to let this define me or my journey. This is just a stepping stone, a chance for me to prove myself even more."
She nods curtly at the camera; a determined glint flickers in her eyes as she smiles.
“Ranking 2nd in the pre-show voting is… Liling!” announced Jacob as the room filled with sounds of loud claps and a few cheers.
Liling froze in her seat for a couple of seconds, purely shocked and extremely confused on how she had managed to reach second place in the first episode.
In the diary room, Liling smiles reminiscing on the moment that had happened just a few hours ago. “Now that I think about it, I looked really weird, just sitting there, glued to my seat when I heard the news. Originally, I thought it was some prank or that my mind was messing around, but when people were actually looking directly at me, it all seemed real.”
The camera returns to the previous scene and shows Liling walking toward the second chair, passing everyone with a few quick glances behind her, her grin widening with each step she took. She sat down, leaning back to enjoy the feeling of being in second place.
“I don’t think I’ll ever feel as grateful or excited as I was at that moment again. It was definitely a one-time thing and I really cherished it. It’s not first place, which would be absolutely crazy, but I’m happy with second.”
Once again, the camera cuts from the diary room to the showroom and pans in on Liling looking at the chair with ‘1’ plastered over it. “Not to spoil anything, but I’m not even upset that I didn’t get to sit in that chair, the person who got that spot deserved it. Congratulations to them, and me.”
“Rank 22…Mingeun!”
Mingeun experiences the five stages of grief in record time, frozen in his chosen seat. When he finally reaches acceptance, he stands up and walks stiffly to his new seat. Upon first glance, he doesn’t seem too upset or shocked. A closer look shows his anger manifesting through his body language: teeth clenched, hands balled into fists as he walks—hard enough for his nails to carve half-moons into his palms, looking straight forward but seeing nothing. It seems like an eternity before he finally reaches his seat. He perches on the very edge of it, as if it’s revolting for him to be sitting there.
“It’s disappointing. I know it’s my fault, and I have to do better.” Mingeun’s words come out stilted and separated like he doesn’t believe what he’s saying. “I hope everyone can recognize me in the future.”
“Rank 21st…Kadie!”
To say the least, Kadie was surprised. She wasn't extremely low on the ladder, but she wasn't as high enough to feel safe. She accepts the rank and calmly walks to her new seat. Kadie wasn't going to show her feelings outwardly, for fear it may be taken out of context. It was just a popularity contest and she needed to make sure the viewers had no reason to hate her.
"I'm surprised, honestly." Kadie rubs her hands together, fidgeting to keep her mind free from doubts. "I thought I would have ranked higher, due to my experience. Though I'm not opposed to the challenge." It was like a newfound confidence sparked something in her. This wasn't her first time. She could win this. "After all, this isn't my first rodeo. I'm sure I can make it to the top!"
“Rank 5th…Yijun!”
Yijun was flabbergasted, schocken, gagged. His mouth fell wide open. His eyes are as large as tennis balls. He looked around. The shock on his face is evident. He looked bewildered towards the camera. “Your- you're joking” he responded, staring towards the filmers. Shakily he stood up, his mouth not closing.
His legs barely guided him to his seat at no.5. He didn't seem to believe any of it until he sat down in his seat. Finally when his facial expression returned to normal, a smile full of pure bliss crossed over his lips. He buried his face in his hands. “Oh my gosh…” he mumbled.
In the diary room, Yijun immediately fell to his knees, “oh my gosh…!” he repeated before standing up and making his way over to a camera to express his gratitude.
“Rank 13th…Poppy!”
Poppy eyes widen at the announcement of her ranking. She didn’t expect her rank to be so high but she’s happy and thankful nonetheless. Before she goes up to her seat she bows to the cameras and thanks the viewers. Slowly but surely she makes her way to her seat and sits down, still in shock with her ranking.
“I really didn’t expect to be 13th in the ranking. Like hello? Anything I did wasn’t that special but I’m so happy for the votes and I’m thankful to everyone who voted for me. I’ll show everyone the best side of me!!”
As the chatter dies down and the host starts to release the first ranks, Venus’ body stilled. When she hears “Rank 23, Venus.” Her shoulders relax and she lets out an exhale.
Just from the number 23, there is a war in her mind. She is stuck between being grateful that she’s in the top 25 or disappointed and a bit fearful that she didn’t make that much of an impression.
“I’m grateful for where I stand. Everyone starts from somewhere, this is just my somewhere.” Venus states with a subtle grin.
“Rank 26th…Bora!”
Bora’s eyes widen, her mouth going agape as she begins to clap for herself. She laughs awkwardly to herself. She waves at the camera and the audience before scurrying to her seat.
“Well, 26 isn’t that bad,” Bora says in the diary room. “It’s not good either but you have to start from somewhere, right?”
“I’m not as low as you guys would’ve expected me to be, thought. You’ve gotta give me that one!”
“Rank 17th…Sooah!”
Sooah's smile has been growing more forced as the rankings bounce around in the twenties.
As her rank is called, she skips towards her seat, a mere three away from where she had placed herself before. It is clear she is pleased.
"Seventeen out of thirty-six, not bad." She muses to the camera.
“Rank 31st…Jiyeon!”
Jiyeon is obviously uncomfortable with her rank. The moment her name is called, she stiffens and walks to her seat gravely. Her expression is pretty dead as she sits, folding her hands in her lap robotically.
In the diary room, Jiyeon gives a strained smile to the camera. "At least it's not last."
As the other ranks are revealed, only Chloe and Finn remained seated with the chairs 1st and 4th remaining.
“I didn’t think this would be so stressful,” Finn tells the camera in the diary room, laughing softly but it’s clear he’s nervous by the look on his face. His smile doesn’t meet his eyes and his heart is pounding so hard in his chest he can feel it in his throat. “Both are great spots but…Number one is right there, you know?”
“If I lose the first rank to Finn…I’ll probably throw up,” Chloe says dryly and seriously in the diary room, nodding as she does so.
“And the fourth rank goes too…” The shot dramatically changes between Chloe and Finn with dramatic heart-pounding music that gets louder with every switch. Both of them stare up at Piper as she pauses for dramatic effect.
“Finn!”
The room bursts to life with cheers, causing Finn to smile holding his chest like he’s about to have a heart attack. He stands from his seat with a deep breath, bowing to the camera with a nervous laugh.
“This really is, like, nerve-wracking. I did not believe them when they said it would be,” Finn expresses in the diary room, his voice playing over a clip of him walking to his seat, bowing politely to the other contestants as he takes another deep breath.
“And the winner of the pre-show voting, our number one ranked idol, Chloe Zhao!” Jacob announces proudly, clearly happy for his sister as he claps along with the rest of the room.
Chloe gasps, putting her hand over her heart like she's about to have a heart attack. Her eyes are wider than usual, looking around in shock before shooting up from her seat and bowing to the camera for a bit longer than she usually would.
"I'm so grateful," Chloe expresses with watery eyes in the diary room, fanning her eyes with a choked-up laugh. "I'm shocked like really shocked. I know people will be like "Ah, Chloe, you're so successful, why are you shocked?" and I don't know! I just am!" Chloe laughs, tapping her inner corners. "This is so cool," Chloe smiles, laughing again, "Thank you constellations!" Chloe blows a big kiss to the camera.
When Chloe lifts her head, her eyes are teary, making her cover her mouth with her tightly clasped together hands. She makes her way to the first-place seat, sitting down with a bright smile with tears in her eyes. "Woo!" Chloe cheers loudly, shaking her fist in the air cutely.
As the dust settles, Piper gracefully lifts the microphone to her lips, ready to make the next announcement.
"Our top five winners will be the leaders for our very first challenge. Jacob, should we unveil the details of the challenge?" she inquires, her eyes shining with anticipation.
Jacob ponders for a moment, surveying the crowd of eager idols before returning his gaze to Piper.
"Hmm... Do you all want to know what the first challenge is?" Jacob playfully teases the contestants, mischief dancing in his eyes. The room fills with enthusiastic cheers, as the contestants hope to finally uncover the long-awaited challenge.
"Alright... Alright, let's tell them, Piper," Jacob decides, ready to reveal the secret.
With a flair of excitement, Piper declares, "The first challenge is... the rewind challenge!" The room erupts in cheers, although some contestants remain uncertain about its nature. Undeterred, Jacob joins in the applause, briefly glancing down at his script on the podium before looking up again.
"For the rewind challenge, you will be divided into groups chosen by your team leaders. Your task will be to perform songs from the second generation of K-pop. How thrilling is that?" Jacob exclaims, a contagious smile lighting up his face. The contestants respond with another round of cheers, their excitement escalating as the competition kicks into high gear.
"If you're eager to witness your favorite idol taking on a K-pop classic, don't miss out on episode two of Shooting Stars!" Piper chirps enthusiastically.
"I've been Jacob!"
"And I've been Piper!"
"Until next time! Thank you for watching!" they bid farewell in unison, leaving the viewers eagerly anticipating the next episode's electrifying performances.

PART ONE ... PART TWO ... PART THREE
Tumblr media
The Shooting Star intro plays briefly, the logo spinning on screen before disbursing in a burst of bright white, bringing the viewers back to the showroom. The contestants are now sitting in numbered plastic chairs on the other side of the room, leaving the pyramid of more decorative seats empty.
The shot fades to Jacob and Piper, both with professional smiles on and looking into the camera.
“Before we announce the rankings, we are going to introduce the contestants! Every idol will have ten seconds to give their best first impression!” Jacob tells the camera and the contestants, prompting them to cheer and clap. Jacob turns to Piper, smiling warming at her as she looks at him with a raise of her brows.
“Would you like to start us off, Piper?”
“I’d love to!” Piper chirps, looking off camera to the teleprompter with the contestants names being flashed on them. The shot cuts to the contests, the camera panning over the hopefuls faces, some looking more interested than others.
“Bad Girl’s Club rapper and dancer, Park Sanghee!” Piper cheers.
Sanghee giggles, bowing to the camera. Though this was for the camera, she also wanted to direct her words to the other contestants. Though Sanghee lives for drama, she wants to start a fresh chapter here, showing her more lovable side.
“Hey everybody! I’m Park Sanghee! I’m really happy to be here with everyone please let this be a good time” Sanghee spoke, tucking her hair behind her ear and then laughing at how polite she sounded.
“I’m not normally this proper but I want to have fun here, so I’m going to start on a good note!” She laughed, bowing once more and waving to the camera, a bright smile on her face.
Jacob chuckles softly at her introduction into the microphone, the camera cutting to him watching Sanghee fondly before turning back to the camera, clearly happy to be here.
“Ditz and Daze, she’s Airhead’s brightest rapper, Im Saero!” Jacob announces, clapping for the girl.
Smiling and waving, Saero blows a quick kiss to the camera.
"Sparkling Saero, shining brighter than the rest! Hello, I am your amazing shooting star, Saero!" She makes a heart with her hands.
"Want to hear me hit a high note?" She all but screams, before giggling. "Please support me!" she cheers.
“Oh wow!” Piper laughs, giving the camera a surprised look through her smile as Jacob blinks wide-eyed in Searo’s direction in slight shock.
“Your love is waiting for her! Once Son Danbi, now she is the shining soloist, Poppy!”
Poppy waves to the camera and gives a wink, before ending with a big heart. Once she’s done and before the camera pans away, she gives a big grin before growing shy.
“Now we have the main vocalist and guitarist of Plastic Flowers, Oliver Song!”
Oliver makes eye contact with the camera before and cups his cheek in the shape of a heart, tilting it to the side. The easiest way to appeal to the audience was by being cute and he had that in the bag.
He remains in the pose for a quick second before giving the camera a thumbs up and mouthing "good luck!"
“Aww…So cute!” Piper coos playfully off-camera, making the crowd laugh quietly. When the camera goes back to them, Jacob is squirting as if something bright is in his eyes, covering them with one hand dramatically.
“Ah! It’s so bright in here…That must be because Honeymoon’s main vocalist Sunny is here!”
Sunny looks enthralled when the camera is on her, waving to it before making a finger heart and moving it in front of her, making a bussing sound as if it’s a bee. Her eyes widen as she lifts the finger heart to eye level, tilting her head before pretending to eat the finger heart. She cups her cheek in the shape of a heart afterward, beaming to the camera.
“Oh so sweet! I’m Honeymoon’s Sunny! Thank you!” The girl cheers, waving with her free hand to the camera.
“She’s just sooo cute!” Jacob says in an exaggeratedly sweet voice, making Piper look at him with a quirk of her brows before giving the look to the camera. Piper clears her throat.
“Here with us is Anonomous’s captivating center, Mars Jang!”
“Hello, it’s Mars Jang!” She introduced herself, bowing before spinning in a little circle.
“I’m happy to be participating in Shooting Stars! I hope to have a good time, and I will surely try my absolute hardest!” Mars exclaimed, bowing to the camera before waving joyfully.
“Coming up next is the pink princess and GirlThing’s main vocalist, Yoo Doah!”
Doah bounces onto her feet when Jacob announces her name, waving excitedly to the camera as she flashes another animated smile to the audience. She bows quickly and gracefully, making a heart with her cheek when she comes back up.
"I'm your princess, Doah! Hope you voted for me!" She ends her greeting by blowing a few sweet kisses, still smiling brightly at the camera.
“Ah! So pretty!” Piper quips, clapping her hands together. Jacob nods in agreement, looking at the screen, the next name makes him smile proudly.
“The nation’s shining star, my sister, and VENUS’ main vocalist, Chloe Zhao!”
Chloe listens to her brother call her name, smiling at him off camera before turning to camera with a beaming smile. She blows a kiss to the camera, her fingers forming a V and putting them close to camera to frame herself between her fingers.
"I'm your star! Chloe!" She cheers, putting her other palm to her cheek and wiggling her fingers cutely. Her fingers close in front of the camera, giving the illusion she's closed the curtain but her laughter can be heard behind the darkness.
“Ah, she’s so cute!” Piper chimes sweetly. “Let’s welcome Hashtag’s lead vocalist, Wen Liling!”
The camera pans towards Liling’s face, capturing her surprised expression, with her wide mouth open.
She quickly recovers from this and smiles at the camera instead, mouthing the words ‘you’re my favorite’ and winks twice with a small hand heart.
“And here is soloist, Femme!”
Sooah makes an animated 'kissy face', pressing both hands to her lips before she blows a big kiss to the camera. A bright smile splits her lips, even as the contestants in close proximity side-eye her hands in their faces.
“Here comes Chicane’s prettiest girl, Venus!”
While the contestants near her are being shown off, Venus tries to think of something nice and simple yet charming enough. She settles with a nice toothy smile, with a small wave to compliment it.
“Prismatic’s leader, Maisie Park!”
Maisie flashes a bright smile, waving to the camera before sending hearts, increasing them in size as she goes. She blows some kisses while she does it as well.
The hosts “aw” at Maisie’s introduction. Piper flips her hair over her shoulder.
“Everyone’s pretty face, With Love’s Bora!”
Bora quickly does the point choreography to With Love!’s last title track ‘Umpah Umpah,’ that same wide grin never leaving her face.
“SM’s super girl,” Jacob pauses at that line, blinking at the corniest of it as Piper’s lips form a tight smile to not laugh. Jacob clears his throat to continue. “SM’s super girl, Kadie Moon!”
Kadie smiles and waves with both hands.
“Wash ashore! It’s DeepDive’s all rounder, Finn!” Piper announces with a smile and clap of her hands.
When the camera lands on Finn, he puts his hand above his eyes like he’s looking out into the distance. He squints as if he sees something, pointing to something off screen, turning his pointing finger into a finger heart, his face turning into a charmin smile. He bows to camera, waving with both hands.
“Dive deep! I’m Finn! And I’m happy to be here!” The boy says cheerfully.
The camera turns back to the hosts. Jacob is smiling at Finn, unaware that the camera is back on them, shooting him a finger heart with a lame smile. Piper chuckles softly at the boys antics, nudging him with her elbow to get back to work. Jacob jumps slightly, looking a bit embarrassed before nodding.
“Let’s give it up for Blue Moon’s leader, Jinri!”
Jinri smiles to the camera, flipping her hair and blowing a kiss to the camera as she winks.
Jacob puts his hand over his heart in awe at Jinri’s hair flip. Piper mimics him, acting as if she’s been shot by cupid’s arrow at Jinri’s beauty. The hosts regain their composure.
“Everybody welcome Aespa’s golden retriever, Qiao!”
Qiao looks at the camera doing finger hearts and says: “Thank you MY's for voting! Fightin!”
“Everyone welcome Everlast’s rapper and dancer, Cody!”
Cody smiles at the camera, doing some sort of cute pose with his hands before waving it away to the next person.
“Let’s give it up for NUITNOIRE’s center, Riko!”
Riko looks around a little caught off guard, her eyes rolling before she sends a cursory wave and wink combo to the camera.
“Oh–” Both Jacob and Piper say in unison, giving one another a look before nodding. There’s a second of silence before Jacob gives a small grunt, raising his brows with some attitude before beginning to read the prompter again.
“Here’s Black Lotus' vocalist and official sunshine, Woobin!”
Woobin poses. "I’m woobin!" he smiles, lips curving upwards happily.
"Thank you to all my lotus who are supporting me from home" he made a small heart with his hands. 'I know it sad I cant see all of you on tour but I hope we can all have fun here on shooting stars!"
“Let’s give it up for off/lives number one online main-vocal player, Yijun!”
“Hello, hello, hello,” Yijun says, bowing twice. He looks around, trying to spot any hidden cameras he can greet. He couldn't find any others.
“I’m Yijun '' he nods, in the corner of the screen you could see him giving a small thumbs up while he nods. “Please support me and I'll barbecue you the best dinner you've ever had,” he grins. He gave another thumbs up.
“Chemical X’s main rapper…Son Sora!”
Even though she knows it’s coming, Sora’s first second is a surprised look to the camera, as if she’s somehow not expecting it. After she “composes” herself, she raises too peace signs and waves them close to her face, smiling brightly with her gums on display. It’s her signature smile; not that it comes all too naturally to her, but fans love her for it.
“Here is one of Pushing Daisies dynamic leaders, Zasha!”
Zasha gasps when the camera is on her as if she’s not expecting it. She covers her face for a moment before making a heart with both her hands, pucking her lips inside the heart. She blows a kiss to the camera with a dramatic “mwah!” making the heart disburse, waving both her hands once they’re free.
“Love you daisies! And I love you, Nakyung!” She blows a kiss to the camera again.
“Fable’s main dancer…Yoon Mingeun!”
Mingeun smiles brightly for the camera, waving with both hands. A bulky black watch band wraps around his left wrist. He places both his hands on his head at the wrist, palms facing forward, mimicking bunny ears. He folds the fingers of his left hand and tilts his head to the right, holding the pose for barely a second. The reality of his actions hits him almost immediately after. He shakes his hands out as if to forget that configuration permanently.
“Ah,” Jacob laughs at the boys cute antics, smiling fondly before putting his hand over his heart again. “So cute!” Jacob praises as Piper nods in agreement, humming as she looks at the camera again, putting on a professional smile.
“Eclipse’s Sim Jisoo!”
While announcing the contestants Jisoo waits patiently for her name to be called, when they finally call her name she does her signature move, a wink with a swish of her hand in the shape of a gun next to her cheek, a move that she did all the time in Eclipse.
“And here is the other Pushing Daisies dynamic leader, Elliot Son!”
Elliot smiles brightly when the camera is on him, waving with one hand. He looks around after that, unsure of what to do next. He’s never been one for aegyo or entertaining the camera without talking. Slowly and unsure, he makes peace signs and lifts them to the top of his head to make cat ears, bobbing his head from side to side with an unsure smile. Zasha can be heard cracking up off camera, making Elliot laugh as well.
“I’m Elliot! So happy to be here!” The man says through laughter, giving the camera a quick finger heart. “Love you Yeojun and love you daisies! Thank you!”
“Off/live’s main rapper, Skylar!”
Turning Skylar gave a soft smile towards the camera. Tittling is head to one side and waving.
“I’m aiming for number 1 so please support me” his smile faltered a little bit. “And please support Yijun, my bandmate, while you're at it.” he clapped a little bit.
“Everyone welcome Mind Eater’s Jiyeon!”
When the camera falls on Jiyeon, she holds up a peace sign with her left hand and smiles calmly at the camera.
“And here is my favorite maknae, Mika of SNS!” Piper announces, sounding the most excited she has since the show starred.
With years of media training and firsthand experience, Mika has become a master at working the camera, so she doesn't miss a beat when a rather large one is thrust into her face as soon as she is introduced. Giving the camera her iconic signature eye smile, she waves joyfully for a second or so before doing the popular apple heart. Dropping the heart, Mika once again waves to the camera as she giggles at herself in mock embarrassment.
The hosts clap as the final contestants introduce themselves.
“Now that you’ve met the contestants are you ready to see their ranks?” Jacob asks the camera before looking at the group of idols, raising his brows and motioning toward them.
“Are you ready?” He asks again, louder to get a reaction out of them. The contestants clap and cheer, causing Jacob to nod proudly with a small smile. Piper smiles at the contestants before looking at the camera again.
“Stayed tuned after this commercial break!” Piper exclaims. Ts the show outro plays, transitioning to a candy bar commercial.

PART ONE ... PART TWO ... PART THREE
Tumblr media
The stage is set, the stakes are high, and the journey to stardom is about to ignite in an explosion of talent, determination, and untamed passion. Welcome to the arena where shooting stars are born, and destinies are forever rewritten.
Want to see if your favorite idol made the top five? Well, sit tight! Because here we go!
The screen goes black, the electric green logo spins onto screen as a shooting star flies above it with a “ding!” when it lands on the end of logo.
With a swishing transition, we’re back to an empty arena where seats are arranged all with numbers on them. The center and most extravagant one sits in the middle with a big silver number one on it.
As Jiyeon enters the room, she takes in the grand set design with barely-disguised awe. Her gait slows nearly to a stop as she finally sees the arrangement of seats.
Jiyeon thinks hard for a moment, then heads towards the 25th chair.
Jiyeon is sitting in the center frame, the diary room set is behind her. "I think I'm underselling myself by going for 25th, but I really don't want a seventeen-year-old at my throat," she laughs at her own joke, a bit uncomfortably.
Jiyeon takes her seat, folding one leg over the other and placing her hands on each side of her thighs. She hunches over a bit, staring at the floor while she waits for the room to fill up.
It's impossible to miss when Yua walks through the doorway. She’s walked a floor like this before, she’s been at the top before, and she’s been at the bottom before. None of this has a semblance of being new.
Biting her tongue in the diary room, she can't help but make a comment, “I just feel like we can up the budget for chairs. I mean… it’s alright but the number looked like it’s going to fall off before someone even gets to claim it.”
This is exactly how it went last time and she could already sense it happening. Her eye twitches when the camera comes closer to her face. A shiver melts down her spine, and it was enough anxiety piling in her throat to sit in the first chair she saw.
There’s a pit in her stomach and she tries to smile her way out of being the focal point of the camera.
“I’m confident.” She says to the diary camera, and it wasn’t a lie. In every other aspect of Yua’s life, she radiates confidence, but in this one moment, she’s confident she’s failed.
Woobin walked into the showroom. Taking long and prideful strides as he smiles widely around. “Hello, hello!” he grinned, greeting all the cameras and others. It didn't take long for him to notice the extravagant-looking seat situated in the middle of the podium. His grin only got wider as he marveled at the center seat.
“Wow, wow” he narrated. Clapping with glee at the sight of the top five places. Slowly he mounted the podium. Taking his time to pick the seat he desired. He guided himself to the center of the seats. Taking a deep breath before sitting down in No. 1. He smiled cheerfully downwards. Yua shoots the boy a glare for choosing the first chair before looking away.
“I…just wanted to seem confident,” Woobin laughs in the diary room. “I’m very desperate to be in the final top, so might as well go big or go home!” he cheered.
Elliot and Zasha walk in, arms linked tightly with one another despite their height difference. Elliot looks around in awe as Zasha leads them towards the chair, smiling politely to the camera with a small bow.
“This place is so big,” Elliot muses with a low whistle, blindly following Zasha like he usually does. Zasha laughs softly at his awe, shaking her head.
“Elliot and I are co-leaders but I’m the full-time leader,” Zasha laughs in the diary room, pushing her silky black hair over her shoulders. “If I’m not there to guide him…He’d get lost very easily.”
The contestants watch as the Angelico idols take their seats in chairs nine and ten. Zasha sits at rank 9 and Elliot at rank 10, still looking around and smiling politely to the few idols in the room.
“I’ve always wanted to be on a real survival show. Stray Kids wasn’t a real one. We didn’t get uniforms,” Elliot says to the camera with an excited smile, rubbing his hands together at the thought of uniforms. “Ooh! I can’t wait for the uniforms! This is going to be so much fun!” The boy exclaims with a nod.
Upon entering the show room, Sora stops centre stage and looks up at the seats in wonder, eyes scanning each one. She’s instantly drawn to the centre, taken by how luxurious it is. She images how it must feel to earn that spot, a shot of excitement shooting up her veins.
In the diary room, she clasps her hands to her cheeks and sighs. “It just looked so regal, like… god, I wanna get there so bad.”
In the show room, Sora makes her way up the stairs with a confident gait, making it seem as if she was going for the number one spot. Her eyes are trained on it, however, as she reaches the final few steps, she pauses to think, before sliding into the side row and taking the number 5 spot, sitting down with her legs crossed politely.
“I really, really want to sit in that chair,” Sora tells the camera, back in the diary room.
“But it’s one thing to earn it, and one thing to just claim it before you’ve really shown the others what you can do. It seems a little arrogant to me - uh, no offense to the contestants who went for it, I actually really admire that level of confidence.” She laughs lightheartedly, praying that her comment won’t be taken in a negative way. The shot cuts to Woobin sitting in the first chair, still smiling to him.
“I’m in no rush, I’ll work hard and get there by the end, I promise!”
Jinri walks into the room, her eyes immediately scanning her surroundings, looking from chair to chair. she pauses for a moment, a thoughtful look on her face as she looks over each of them, pressing her finger into her chin as her lips pursed.
“I immediately wanted to go to the best chair,” Jinri tells the camera within the diary room, shrugging. “I mean who doesn’t want to sit at number one.” She laughs. “But, if I sit there too early, people will think I’m full of myself, won’t they? And I can’t have that so somewhere high up, but not too high up to put a target on my back is probably the best place to go.” She finishes with a hum, nodding her head.
Jinri finally starts to move her feet, taking her over to the higher number chairs. she looks at each one, weighing the options between each of them before finally settling into chair number eleven, sitting comfortably as she waits for more members to enter the room.
Elliot looks over at Jinri as she sits next to him, smiling warmly at the girl with a bow of his head. The pair exchange quiet hello’s, Elliot shaking Jinri’s hand politely before leaning back in his chair.
“Love Blue Moon,” Elliot tells the camera in the diary room, nodding like he just tasted something good. “The competition seems tough already…There’s a girl from Motor Records too. I’ve heard crazy shi–” He stops himself, looking at the camera blankly before clearing his throat. “Lots of crazy big companies here. The competition will be tough.”
Upon entering the room, Doah strategically locks eyes with the camera, flashing the audience a sweet gummy smile and forming a heart with her fingers as she gestures towards the camera. After turning her attention away from the camera, her eyes gravitate towards the seat in the center of the room. Her gaze lingers on the extravagant seat for a few seconds before she walks past it, deciding to sit in the seat marked "twelve".
“I just picked twelve because that's my birthday," She says animatedly, the sweet smile never leaving her lips. "I'll be happy if I rank within the top 15!"
Cody walks into the show room after following behind a few other contestants. He notices that a couple of seats are filled, but he’s still early enough to see that it doesn’t look too full.
As he looks around the room in a state of awe, he notices the empty chair in the middle, clearly different from the others. The clip shows him walking directly towards it, but then cutting across to the opposite direction.
“Of course I wasn’t like—actually gonna sit there.” He says in the diary room, scoffing.  “I’m not an overachiever or one of those people who fight for the number one spot.” Cody mumbles, twisting the rings around his fingers. “It was a pretty cool chair, though. Whoever sits in it, has guts.” He states, overemphasising the last word.
Back in the show room, the clip ends with Cody finally choosing a seat, and sitting down in the 15th spot.
Finn enters the room like he’s late, rushing in with a jog. “Hello, hello, hello!” The boy cheers as if he’s trying to hype the tense room up. He runs past the bottom row of  chair, high-fiving anyone he can reach. Some contestants are enthralled by his antics while others aren’t, side eying the idol as he climbs up the stairs.
“I’m just here to have a good time,” Finn says in the diary room, “I love competing. I’m the most competitive one in my group but I’m just here to have fun and make some friends.”
Finn strides up the stairs to go to chair number five, his determination radiating as he sets his sights on chair number five. But as his gaze lands on Sora seated in chair number five, he inhales sharply through his teeth, tilting his head down to meet her eyes. Sora responds with a soft laughter, mustering a smile while blinking up at him.
"Hi," Finn says, looking down at Sora and extending his hand for a shake. Sora sighs quietly, glancing at the camera before standing up and shaking Finn's hand. Doah watches, the camera zooming in on her as leans forward to get a better view, intrigued, perched on the edge of her seat as the two idols exchange pleasantries.
"This is my seat," Sora politely informs Finn, pointing at the chair. Finn nods, understanding her words, and points to the coveted seat with a raised eyebrow.
"But that's the seat I want," he playfully protests.
"But I was here first!" Sora argues halfheartedly, smiling as Finn reciprocates with a small laugh. The playful exchange between them intensifies, as Sora guards the fifth chair as if it were her most cherished possession, with Finn posing a threat to snatch it away. The editing during their interaction adds humor, featuring a split screen that captures both Finn and Sora's reactions, enhanced by whimsical sound effects at the slightest head tilt.
"But the number five is my favorite number!" Finn quips back, a beaming smile adorning his face while Sora playfully scoffs, turning her head away from him.
In the diary room, Finn confesses, "Five isn't actually my favorite number. I just needed a reason to steal her chair."
"He's not getting that chair," Sora declares firmly in the diary room. "I can't rank myself below a five. I just…Don’t want to do that."
"Okay, okay," Sora proposes, a twinkle in her eye. "Whoever can hold their breath the longest gets the chair." Finn raises an intrigued eyebrow, captivated by the challenge. Dramatic clips of both Sora and Finn hitting high notes play, accompanied by suspenseful text at the bottom: Who Will Win?
"You're on!" Finn accepts the challenge eagerly, shaking Sora's hand with good sportsmanship, ready to embark on an exhilarating battle of wills. On the count of three, both the idols hold their breath, both their cheeks puffing out dramatically as they do so.
The tension builds as both Finn and Sora effortlessly hold their breaths at first, but as the 30-second mark passes, their struggle becomes clear. Finn starts rocking back and forth, while Sora crosses her arms over her chest, her face showing a slight pinch of determination. Finn fights to maintain his composure, never breaking his gaze from Sora. Murmurs among the other contestants fill the quiet room, speculating on who will win.
Suddenly, Finn blinks at Sora, his face turning crimson as he struggles for air. Unable to hold on any longer, he turns away from her and gasps for breath. The room erupts in cheers as Sora is deemed as the winner. In a burst of joy, she raises her hands above her head in celebration.
Finn chuckles, shaking his head at his defeat, extending his hand to Sora as a sign of good sportsmanship. Sora accepts his handshake graciously, bowing politely, prompting Finn to reciprocate the gesture. Sora resumes her seat, and Finn takes a place beside her in chair number six, offering his hand for a high-five. Sora playfully taps his hand with a cheerful cheer, basking in her victory as she smiles at the camera. A dramatic caption flashes on the screen, proclaiming "Iron Lung Sora!" while an animated crown adorns her head, emphasizing her accomplishment.
Upon entering the room, Kadie is shocked. Everything was designed to the nines. The familiarity she was hoping to feel had been snatched. She wasn't playing around as a trainee anymore; she was fighting against bigger dogs and she would have to act like it.
"I wasn't sure what to expect, but this ..." She takes a pause to try and word her thoughts properly. "This is so much more. It's a little overwhelming." Kadie let out a titter.
She takes a moment to assess the chairs. Despite her previous win on her own survival show, Kadie knew better than to go for the number one seat or even top five. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves before heading to the fifteenth seat but stopping when she sees Cody sitting there. She smiles nervously at him, laughing quietly before taking the sixteenth chair.
Qiao didn't know what to expect when she cautiously pushed open the doors of the show room, revealing a space filled with anticipation and nervous energy matching her own. The room was bathed in a bright light that glimmered against the floors, almost blinding the girl if it wasn’t because she was used to it from the many hours filming. The air was thick with a sense of opportunity and competition, as the surroundings hinted at the significance of the moment.
She had decided to dress according to the general theme of the show, in the well known and rising Y2K aesthetic, wearing a low rise denim skirt, a tight white cropped top, making her hair, her jacket, and her shoes the attention points. She was wearing a neon blue racing jacket, the color matching her vintage Adidas, and her blue and white hair, which was only partially covered by a beanie. The look was completed with necklaces and a fake lip ring in the middle of her lower lip, though she wasn't sure if she had overdone it or not.
Of course, even though the idea had been hers, it had been the wardrobe team of SM entertainment who had given her the outfit, since they were going to dress her as the sweet, shy, innocent Qiao for the cameras, and the girl thought that for once a change was needed.
Qiaoying looked at the chairs and the numbers, counting, besides the extravagant first place's chair, thirty-five spots. If she was honest, she believed she'd be lucky if she got to be among the top 20.
As she walked inside the room, the more she saw, she was surprised to see the more details put on the set, and the more interested she grew in everything the show had to offer. Though, the closer she got to the number one spot, the more she wanted that place. Of course, she only kept herself looking at it for a few moments, as she was quick to get to her seat, deciding on seat fourteen as the fifteenth chair was already taken and she wasn’t going to go anything below number 15.
“I've never been on a show like this,” She started as she looked into the camera, not sure of where else to look. “Some would call it lucky, as I never had the pressure of knowing my debut depended on how good I did in camera or being liked enough.”
Then she looked away, thinking about what to say next, as she didn't have any script for this, or at least, the company didn't give any.
“I'd say I am privileged in that way, but now that I am here…” She said softly, as if she was telling a secret to the camera. “Not knowing how all of this works is… a disadvantage?” Qiao asked more to herself, running a hand through her hair as she thought. “Yes, a disadvantage.”
Chloe walks into the room confidently, looking around the room with a beaming smile. "They used the same set as produce," Chloe teases, laughing at the camera as she covers her mouth.
"The last time I was in this room was 2016 during Produce 101," Chloe tells the camera as she sits in the diary room, "I left here in second place and I don't intend to do that again. I want first so that's what I'm going to get." Chloe shrugs her tiny shoulders cutely.
Chloe confidently walks to the first chair, causing Woobin to eye her with a nervous smile growing on his lips. She bites her lips in thought as she stares at the boy sitting in the chair, wondering if she should take it or not.
"Never mind, never mind, I'm not cursing myself," Chloe laughs, moving from the first chair to the second chair with great swiftness. Woobin takes a dramatic breath of relief as he puts his hand over his fast beating heart, causing the room to laugh. Chloe smiles brightly, patting his knee sweetly before resting her hands in her lap.
Sooah enters the room with pep in her step, barely taking in the ceremony before she beelines to spot number 20.
"I like even numbers," Sooah explains the decision to the camera, just off center of frame, the familiar scene of the diary room behind her. "And, I find this whole setup usually brings out two types of really annoying people." Her hand shoots out in front of her, with two fingers held up.
"Either you choose the center, and then you and four other people are fighting over it. Maybe you say something, maybe you don't, but in that case it's just up to the editors how you show up on camera. Or you choose the end, and everyone knows you're gunning for pity votes." She smiles as if she didn't just insult her fellow competitors. Clips of Woobin, Chloe, Cody, and Jiyeon is played on screen as she speaks. "I'd say both camps are equally unappealing."
Back in the show room, Sooah takes her seat with grace, folding one leg over the other and finally taking a moment look around. She's pretty patient as she waits for everyone else to have their turn.
"I'd say the competition is ... interesting. There are lots of industry favorites, and there's also tons of, for a lack of better term, 'nobodies'." She puts air quotes around the word. "I'm excited to see how the rankings end up."
As the rest of the contestants fill up the seats, the room is filled with excited chatter. Everyone is either excitedly chatting or keeping to themselves, waiting for the show to really start.
As the studio doors swing open and the instrumental of the theme song plays, the air crackles with anticipation as the contestants fall silent, and the stage lights illuminate the path before them. Jacob and Piper, the dynamic hosts for the first episode, known for their unyielding charm, step onto the stage of Shooting Stars, the most thrilling survival show to hit the entertainment world.
Jacob, former Wanna One member and main vocalist of DeepDive, graces the camera with a warm smile, raising a microphone to begin speaking.
"Washed ashore! Hello, I'm Jacob from Deepdive!" Jacob announces, exuding enthusiasm. Piper, her long black hair swishing over her shoulder, beams adorably at him before turning toward the camera.
"Sugar and spice, I make everything nice! Hello, I'm Piper from SNS!"
"And we are your hosts for the first episode of Shooting Stars!" Jacob cheers, his fist pumping with excitement. The room fills with cheers, and Piper cutely joins in, shaking her fist as well, evoking a burst of quiet laughter from Jacob. He briefly looks off-camera, his eyes widening slightly, before returning his gaze to the lens.
"Before the show started, the 36 idols here submitted their audition tapes to the public, and you, at home, voted for your favorite idol," Piper recaps, adopting her professional hosting voice, which brings a smile to Jacob's face.
"Yes, this was the first round out of... How many rounds of voting are there, Piper?" Jacob asks, adding a touch of drama with a head tilt. Piper hums, furrowing her brows in thought, before snapping her fingers as if a lightbulb just switched on.
"There are four remaining rounds of voting! Three elimination rounds and the finale, which will determine the final group! The pre-show rankings have already concluded, and we will be announcing the rankings after this commercial break!" Piper announces cheerfully, her tone brimming with excitement as the show outro plays, transitioning to an energy drink commercial.
