literally, anyone who asks mordred who he is gets the very rehearsed response that he is mordred. merlin is his older brother. he is from ealdor. hunith is his mother

every time someone looks suspicious mordred just yells it out 

so its common to just randomly hear a child chanting that he is merlin’s younger brother

arthur finds out that perhaps mordred isn’t merlin’s crazy brother because when merlin finds out he has a dad mordred promptly changes his little speech so that he also mentions a father and arthur gets curious

arthur: if you never knew your father but you and mordred are siblings with the same parents…

Imagine you're like 20 when you realize 'i'm sorry' and 'thank you' are not just plain cold formalities, but words with a meaning, because until then everyone said these only cause you're the prince and they're afraid when they see you and they'd speak kind words even if they despised you. Then there comes some twink who's visibly sick in the head and disrespects you whenever he judges you deserve it, but then he turns around in his little chair in his little blanket after you both just saved each other's lives and he looks at you and he means it when he calls your name and he says 'thank you'.

#It's the moment of realization that kills me #you can literally see Arthur learning what it feels like to earn respect #up til that point #any 'respect' he was due came from his father's blood #but in that moment #he learned exactly how addicting earning respect can be

the reason why Elyan left Camelot so young is beceause he has magic and , prety much like merlin, leave in order to learn to control it.

Also he can listen Merlin and Mordred telepatic talks but he just dont say anything.

I wonder what Merlin would’ve done if he’d ever been in a situation where Uther threatened Arthur with a hand on the throat like he’d done to Morgana. Throughout the show Arthur was shown to be stronger physically than Uther but what if there was a situation where Uther was being his abusive self and actually hurt Arthur... I think Merlin would’ve made Uther spontaneously combust

#the DRAMA of that being the magic reveal #like Uther goes way too far #to the point where Arthur is actually physically marked up or something #and Merlin just loses it a little #maybe he doesnt even kill the king #but he definitely incapacitates him #theyre both just... standing there #staring #finally Arthur just asks why #and Merlin is standing there shaking #then he just says i stood by for so much #but i just couldnt see him hurt you agai
