i have a friend who, for birthdays/christmases, will buy us things that... how do i even explain this... like that HE would want us to want.

he keeps buying us pokemon games, for example. almost no one in our friend group likes pokemon except him (and me, but not to the same extent). as a result we're often stuck with really expensive gifts that he knows we don't actually want, but he wishes we did??

i wonder if it's a sort of way to involve us in his interests, but it's hard to gauge... i wish he wasn't spending hundreds of dollars on gifts we can't properly enjoy? he should be spending his money on things HE will enjoy.

i don't want to seem like i think this behaviour is ~problematic~ or i can't appreciate a gift. it's just something i wish was different. i don't know.
