its been a year since the "inchident" and tensions are still high on track... just two races earlier, max is forced to retire after pushing charles into the grass so hard that it causes his already struggling gearbox to fail. charles' team, artgp, decries the maneuver on track as "unfair" via a press release titled "ART Grand Prix stronger than adversities". (meanwhile, charles' fansite decides uses slightly more flavorful language in its own race summary... describing the move as "incomprehensible," simply scandalous" and "shameful" while appealing for officials to do a better job of penalizing dangerous moves. max's site ignores the race entirely, leaving no summary to memorialize his team's take on what happened in sarno. it makes sense: its a lone bad race for the dutch driver in an otherwise dominant season.)

ironically, the cik-fia would start the next race weekend the two attended in wackersdorf with a conversation to all competitors about sportsmanlike behavior.

things may not be as dire as they originally seem, however. charles and max might be ignoring each other on the podium, but they're still friends on facebook: max apparently leaves a comment-- deleted as part of his early f1 social media account purge-- on charles' post about the race.

That’s what I find beautiful about this generation, they are all a little linked. It reminds me of when Pierre's father said that Charles is family, even more so since Hervé's death, he said that his door will always be open for him and his brothers. I find it really beautiful how strong friendships can be built. And let's not even talk about Max and Charles' relationship which is worthy of fan fiction because their lives are so linked and they have so many similarities.

I am sorry for the emotional distress, as a writer I literally can not think of people without thinking of their story and Max and Charles just have such strong 'tragic backstory' energy I sometimes can't believe they're real.

May I offer a silly thought I had the other day as compensation?

I think at the end of every F1 season, after the championship is won, they should do a charity race where every driver has to drive a different car. To make it fair/ peak silliness the winning driver drives the last place car, number two drives the car of number 19 and so on. If someone crashes because they don't know the car, well the season is over it doesn't matter anymore. During the race there is a fundraiser, where F1 people but also fans can donate and ticket money goes to charity. Just imagine Max's outrage when driving a Williams, he'd positively lose his mind over how bad it is. On the other hand you would have people like Gasly who's been fighting an Alpine all season or Albon trying to put a Williams into the points, suddenly driving a Red Bull or Ferrari and their sheer delight at finally having a good car. This shit would be fun no matter who you are a fan of and would bring so much money. I think this is a great idea and should be introduced (and cut the official races of at 22 races, 24 is too many).

As a writer, I don't think you're sorry at all, actually. Which is totally fine because I get it.

I will accept this silliness as compensation because that would be fucking hilarious. The absolute rage of the drivers forced to drive shit cars after driving good/decent cars for an entire season. I need this like I need air.
