In the writings of H. G. Wells, Morlocks are a race of subterranean creatures, described as gaunt and pale with large grey eyes. They live underneath the English countryside maintaining ancient machines, and can only come up to the surface world through certain well-like structures.
First appearing in The Time Machine, Morlocks have since been mentioned in dozens of other places, including Alan Moore’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
