Eadweard J.Muybridge (1830-1904), Walking with a bucket in mouth; light-gray horse, Eagle, 1884-1887, collotype print. George Eastman House Collections
-
Born Edward Muggeridge, in Kingston-Upon-Thames, England, Muybridge changed his Christian name to Eadweard in 1850, and his surname to Muybridge a few years later. He went to San Francisco around 1855 and opened a bookstore there. He lived most of his adult life in the United States, beginning his photographic career in California in 1867. He set up a photographic studio, sharing space in the “Cosmopolitan Gallery” of Silas Selleck, the former NYC daguerreotypist.
Muybridge used the pseudonym “Helios” and drove a light horse-drawn wagon he called “The Flying Studio.” Initially commissioned in 1872 by Leland Stanford to make motion studies of his horse, “Occident”, Muybridge later extended that work at the University of Pennsylvania. These studies, in their many forms, occupied him until his death in 1904 at his home in Kingston.

A’Va Minted Design, a 2003 mare by Grand Design (Appaloosa x Friesian) and out of an Appaloosa mare. DNA tested black with dun, so she is technically grulla, with another dilute gene to make her coat appear tan dun, with a near leopard pattern. (x)

Livestock drama
“Let’s put pool noodles on the goat’s horns!” says a teenager.
“Why would you, ” I begin, but they have already stampeded out of the house. I shrug.
It turns out that when someone puts pool noodles on a goat’s horns, the goat doesn’t really care. They’re very light, after all, and she can’t see them. You know who cares? Who cares a LOT?
the HORSE. Hero took one look at Nutmeg wearing pool noodles and ran away. You know who doesn’t want to be left alone, ever? Nutmeg. Who went trotting after Hero because he was leaving her.
Hero, seeing that the eldritch abomination was after him, picked up speed. Nutmeg went into a full run. My kids started chasing Nutmeg to get the pool noodles off her, but could not catch her, because she’s surprisingly fast. The dogs were bringing up the rear, just happy to be going for a pleasant run. Hero was in a panic, leading a parade that he did not want.
This all resolved. One noodle feel off; the kids eventually cornered Nutmeg and removed the other one. Just - a day at a farm, I guess.

Every farmer I know - this bottle of ivermectin has been in my family since 1924. We store it under the trailer.
