Chapter Eight: Finale

a/n: this is probably the longest chapter i’ve ever written, hope it doesn’t suck, enjoy! i really hope you liked the series, and i’m so sad it’s gone to an end now! but if you have any ideas or head cannons you’d like me to write for the reader and neteyam (in this story) i’d love to!!

"I knew it!"

You and Neteyam turned to see Ao'nung standing there, an angry look on his face.

shit. shit. shit.

Your eyes widened, getting away from Neteyam, "Ao'nung-"

He just shook his head, running off to tell your parents.

"Shit!" You yelled

"Hey, hey, calm down" Neteyam said, getting up as well

You started hyperventilating, pushing him off you

"Y/n listen to me!" He said, pushing your arms away and grabbing you by the shoulders, "Panicking will get you nowhere, alright? Take a deep breath, we'll go together."

"We can't go together!" You said, pushing him away and running back to your marui pod

"Y/n!" He called, following you

Once you got to the pod, you saw your parents standing there, your father with a disappointed look on his face, and your mother just looking down

"Dad-"

"Do not speak!" He snapped, "I'm sick of this! Every day it's something new with you, isn't it!"

Suddenly, Jake and Neytiri showed up, Neteyam a few seconds after

"I've given you a chance, y/n. Many, many chances. But you always mess up! You can't do one thing right! You speak when it's not your place to speak, you fix when it's not your place to fix, and when you do all of those things, you can't even get them right! You just make them worse, as always." Your father said as you stood there, trying your best not to embarrass yourself even more

But you couldn't take it anymore. All those years, all those hurtful things everyone said to you just spilled out of the bottle you've been trying to keep closed your whole life.

"Why can't you do one simple thing right, hm?"

"Everything needs to be perfect, you've done enough."

"You know what your problem is, y/n? You always try to fix something but you just end up making it worse. Because that's just who you are. You can't even fix yourself."

"Why can't you just be like Tsireya and not have to be so hard to deal with, huh?"

You dropped to the ground, your tears slipping out of your eyes uncontrollably as you sobbed, Neteyam was about to go to you until his dad pulled him back, he pushed him off and ran to you

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm sorry" You kept repeating as you cried

"Do not apologize, y/n! How could you say something like that!" Neteyam yelled

"Neteyam!" Neytiri tried to shut him up

"No! I've seen you all treat her like utter shit and I had to watch as she took it in silence! She doesn't deserve any of this! She is the sweetest person I've ever met, you all act like she has to be perfect! She hasn't done anything wrong! But every single person in this family comments and judges everything she does! You have no idea what your children tell her. You think they're so great and perfect, how about you teach them how to treat their sister with respect!"

"Enough!" Jake said, grabbing Neteyam's arm and pulling him out of the marui with Neytiri behind them

You sat there on the ground, in silence, your tears sliding down your cheeks

"Y/n" Your mother said, you kept looking down, not a single sound coming out of you. "Y/n" Your mother got down to the floor, she lifted your head up, her tears flowing as she wiped yours, "My sweet child, my baby. I'm so sorry, my baby" She cried as she hugged you, you didn't speak, didn't react, didn't do anything.

Your father looked at you, and just walked away. Your siblings were nowhere to be seen. It was just you and your mother, who held you as she cried mumbling apologies

Soon, she had calmed down, just stroking your hair as you laid your head on her lap. Ao'nung, who left after telling your dad what happened, walked back inside, seeing the sight. Your inexpressive face, looking into nothing.

He just looked away and walked out, you didn't even look at him, you didn't care anymore.

"Do you really like him?" Your mother said, breaking the silence

You just nodded, and your mother chuckled, "Why don't you go visit him?"

You looked up at her, "Go" she said, you lightly smiled at her before getting up and leaving

"Dad-"

"I get it, Neteyam, you like her, but it's just a crush, it'll go away. It wasn't worth the drama-"

"No, dad" Neteyam stood up, "She's not just a crush, I love her. And you don't know how her family treats her. She needed someone to stand up for her"

Jake sighed, looking at Neytiri and back to Neteyam, "I know. I know-I'm not saying you didn't do the right thing. I would've done the same, but he is Olo'eyktan, so even if it was right for you to stand up for her, it's still disrespectful that you stood in his home and insulted him like that."

Neteyam just stood there in silence, "Hey, you did the right thing, kid. You got that?" Jake said, and Neteyam nodded, "Alright, now go sleep. Tomorrow we go apologize, and who knows, maybe he'll let you have that girl after her ikinimaya."

Neteyam's ears perked up and his eyes widened, Jake chuckled at his reaction, "I can tell you love her, so you gotta get on his good side, alright?"

Neteyam smiled, nodding repeatedly before he went to his room, Neytiri and Jake went to their room

Even though Neteyam was happy his dad was gonna help him have you, he still couldn't help but think of how your parents must have reacted after they left. He couldn't help but feel like he made things worse now.

His smile faded, and the feeling of immense guilt took over. He was worried for you.

"Neteyam" He heard someone whisper, he turned around to see you standing there

He quickly rushed to you, hugging you tight, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry" He said as he dug his head into the crook of your neck, trying to get as close as possible, "I shouldn't have said anything, please forgive me, I'm sorry-"

"Ma Nete" You said in a low voice as you stroked his hair, "It's okay, thank you for standing up for me"

He looked at you, "Did they do anything?" He said

"Come, I'll tell you what happened..." You said, holding his hand and slowly trying to sneak out of the marui pod.

You two sat by the shore as you told him what happened

"So you're okay with your mother?" He asked

You nodded, he looked at you, seeing your numb face, "Are you sure you're okay?" He gently held your hand, concern written all over his face

You nodded again, you weren't mad at him, you made that clear. So he knew it wasn't him, and he saw everything that just happened, it clearly had affected you deeply.

Everything that had been bottled up for years and years just spilled out, so it wasn't easy to just act like nothing happened.

"I'm gonna go now" You said, he nodded, just as you were about to leave, he pulled you back, kissing you and wrapping his arms around your waist to pull you closer, he then watched as you looked at him in silence, "You know I love you, right?"

You nodded, he cradled your face, kissing you once again before letting go, and watching as you lightly smiled at him and walked away

Once you got home, you could see your father sitting there with your siblings, you looked at him for a moment, before going to your room, closing the curtain

You got on your hammock and just curled in on yourself, slowly beginning to doze off as some tears slipped from your eyes, you quickly wiped them away and just closed your eyes

The next day, you woke up and walked out to see your family having breakfast, you sat with them in silence, your mother looked at you with a smile, you just looked at the ground

you silently ate your breakfast, the others were talking, completely unaware of what happened before, while you just stared

your parents shared a look and ronal nodded, she got up

“come kids, i need your help with something outside” she said as she began leaving, they all got up and began following her

Just as you were about to get up, your father called you, you just stood there, your back turned to him

He got up and walked towards you, he turned to face you, and just looked at you

“You…you are good. You are a good daughter, my daughter” He said, Tonowari was never good at comfort. But to you, this was everything.

You just stayed quiet, trying to process the fact that he actually said that

“Jake Sully?” Tonowari spoke, you looked to see him standing there, Neteyam with him

They both motioned their hands as in to say they see him, “We just wanted to talk.” Jake said

Tonowari nodded, he sat down along with them while you just looked at Neteyam for a second and headed back into your room

“We just wanted to apologize for last night. My son did not mean any disrespect—“

Your father nodded, causing him to go quiet. He looked at Neteyam, “I like you, kid. You stood up for my daughter and showed me that you truly care about her. I forgive you, and I will allow you to have her, if you still want to, of course.”

Neteyam’s eyes widened, and a wide smile appeared across his face, “Yes, yes—I would—thank you so much, sir” He said, trying to be calm

“Y/n” Your father called, you walked out of your room, seeing the happiness on Neteyam’s face, Tonowari turned back to him, “I trust that you will protect my daughter from any harm, and will be a good mate to her.” He said, making you widen your eyes

“Don’t worry, sir. She will be safe with me, I will take care of her.” Neteyam said, still looking at you

Jake chuckled at how happy Neteyam looked

“Her iknimaya is soon, after it is complete, you can be with each other”

You looked at your dad, and went to hug him, he was surprised at first, but hugged you back soon after

“Thank you, father” You said with a smile on your face as you let go

He nodded at you, “Now go, go hang out together. No touching, though, okay?” He warned Neteyam who was quick to nod

He got up and walked outside with you as your fathers started some other conversation

Once you two were alone, you smiled at each other, he pulled you in for a quick kiss

“I’m sorry—I couldn’t help myself” He said

“Somebody could have seen us!” You told him, before smiling and looking around, and giving him another kiss

“Look who’s breaking the rules now, hm?” He joked, making you smack his arm

You loved Neteyam, you saw nobody but him. You got closer with your mother, even though you made up with your father, it was still a little awkward. You still didn’t speak with Ao’nung, but he started being nicer, and it was clear he was going to apologize some time in the future, but for now, this was his best.

But you didn’t care, you had Neteyam now, he made you feel safe and loved, he cared for you, he protected you, he loved you.

The moon.

You’ve always been fond of the moon.

You used to hate the sun, it was the one that outshined the moon.

But now you realize how everyone seems to think the sun and moon are against each other

You were one of those people

The sun was always there, hiding behind the moon just as the moon hid behind the sun as well

But no matter what, the two were always there, with each other.

You now knew how the sun was never the better one, it shared the sky with the moon, they never leave each others side.

You knew this because, you were the moon, and he was the sun.

Chapter Seven

a/n: This one's quite short I'm sorry my loves !!

When everyone was asleep, you snuck out to get some fresh air, away from them.

"Y/n?" A voice called, you turned to see Neteyam there, he went and sat with you, "Thank you for telling us about Lo'ak. If we didn't know, something worse might have happened to him" He said

You just nodded at him, he looked to you and held your hand, "And thank you for standing up for him."

You looked at him, and looked at your hand that was in his, just as you were about to get up, he held your other hand "Don't run from me, y/n. Please."

"We cannot do this, Neteyam" You whispered

"Why not?" He asked

"My parents will never approve" You sighed and looked down

"They do not have to know, we will tell them when the time is right." He smiled reassuringly at you

You were quiet for a moment, you let go of his hands, and he sighed. You then cradled his face, he looked up at you, his eyes softening as they met yours.

"I see you, Nete." You whispered

The nickname that you chose for him made him smile widely

"I see you, y/n" He said as pulled you closer, kissing you and wrapping his arms around your waist

Sooner or later, you and Neteyam got closer. Every night, you two would sneak out and laugh and talk and lay in each other's arms.

You and Ao'nung still didn't talk, and everytime you saw him, you'd remember what he said. On those days, you'd be quieter than usual, and Neteyam would know something happened.

You never told him about anything though, you were too afraid. And he knew it wasn't gonna be easy getting you to open up. After all, he's seen your family and how they treat you. He'd be concerned if you were easy to open up.

But even though you didn't trust him all the way, he still tried to let you know that he cares. He had fallen for you, and for everything you do.

And it hurt him how you were being treated.

You were so kind, so ready to help, so sweet, so beautiful, so perfect.

How could anyone treat you like you were anything less than that?

A couple of days later, you were sat by the shore, watching the moon again as you waited for Neteyam to show up.

You felt hands on your shoulder, you turned and looked at Neteyam with a smile, he gave you a light kiss and sat next to you.

"How are you, my love?" He asked, trying to make conversation

"I'm alright" You said as you looked down, he knew something was up.

"Are you sure?" He said as he held your hand

"Yeah...I'm sure" You said, not even trying to look at him

He cradled your face and turned you to face him, "You know you can tell me anything, right?" He said

You nodded, you gripped the wrists that were holding your face and sighed, "I'm just scared, Nete." You whispered

"Scared of what?" He asked, worried

"Of my parents" You admitted, "What will they think of me? I'm already on their bad side, imagine what it would be like if they found out."

"Baby..." He said, "Do not worry, I promise everything's gonna be alright. You have me now, okay? I won't let them do anything. I'm here" He comforted as you got closer, leaning on his chest as he stroked your hair

"I love you..." You whispered

He looked down and smiled at you, "I love you too, baby"

It was quiet for some time, just the sounds of the water, and breathing filling your ears as you just stayed in Neteyam's arms.

"I knew it!"

Chapter Six:

a/n: THIS ONE IS SO SHORT IM SORRY !!

You sat in your marui pod, not a sound coming out of you as you just sat, staring into nothing and remembering what happened.

Ao'nung walked in, pausing when he saw you. You looked at him and got up, leaving.

"Where are you going?" He asked, turning to you

"Away from you." You simply said

"Don't tell me you're going to those freaks again."

"They're not freaks!" You yelled

"Whatever, I don't even care. At least I won't have to see that other freak's face ever again." He laughed

"What-what are you talking about?" You said, he just looked at you, "Ao'nung."

Neteyam sat with his mother in their mauri pod as his father talked to Kiri by the water

"Neteyam." Neytiri said, Neteyam stopped looking at the ground and looked at her

"Yes?" He said

"What's on your mind, my child?" She asked

"What do you mean?" He said, fidgeting with his hands

"Neteyam!"

Neytiri was about to speak until she saw you run in

"Y/n? What is it? Are you okay?" He asked, seeing you worried expression

"It's Lo'ak, my brother-he did something" You said, Jake could hear you, him and Kiri got up to see what's going on

Soon after you explained what happened, everyone went out looking for him, you stood there waiting

A couple of moments later, they finally found him. Relief washed over your face as you saw that he wasn't injured. Neytiri came and scolded him when your father stopped her, telling her that it wasn't his fault.

"Okay, let's go" Jake said

"No, this wasn't Ao'nung's fault." Lo'ak said, "He tried to talk me out of it, really. It was my idea."

"What" You said, everyone looked at you, the feeling overwhelmed you. but nonetheless, you stood your ground, "Ao'nung told me so himself. He tricked him! This wasn't his fault-"

'Y/n!" Tonowari yelled, "Enough."

You went quiet, looking at the ground in shame. Neteyam looked at you, seeing the tears welling in your eyes. He wanted to hug you right then and there, to tell you how proud he was that you tried to stand up for someone else.

But he couldn't.

Everyone went home, and you had to go to your marui pod and deal with your parents. You walked in, immediately heading to the other room until your father stopped you.

"Y/n." He said, you slowly turned around

"Yes father."

He sighed and looked at you, "Why did you have to do that, hm?" He said, getting up, "Why couldn't you just be quiet, why make a big deal?"

"Because it wasn't his fault!"

"I don't care!" He yelled, "He said it was, so it stopped being our problem. Why can't you just be like Tsireya and not have to be so hard to deal with, huh?"

You stood there, quietly, "Can I go now?" You said, your voice hoarse

"One more thing, y/n. You talk back to me again, and you're grounded. Got it?" He said, and you nodded, beginning to walk away as the others just sat there quietly, watching you

Chapter Five: Problem.

You two looked into each other's eyes, until you heard laughing. You looked away, and saw Ao'nung and his friends talking to Kiri

You two got out of the water, ignoring them until you looked and saw them picking on Lo'ak. You both quickly went to them, you looked at Neteyam to see him fuming.

"Leave us alone!" Kiri yelled

He walked towards Ao'nung and pushed him off Lo'ak.

"You heard her. Leave them alone" He sternly said, Ao'nung's friend was about to say something until Ao'nung stopped him. "Back off. Now" Neteyam said, his finger on Ao'nung's chest.

Ao'nung raised his hands up in surrender, "It's your choice" Neteyam said, he then turned to everyone else, "And from now on, I need you to respect my sister."

One of them hissed at him, and Ao'nung stopped him

"Let's go" Neteyam said, Kiri and Lo'ak began walking away with him.

"Look at them, they're all freaks. The whole family" Ao'nung said

"Ao'nung!" You yelled, "They're not freaks, asshole."

Ao'nung turned to you, "Look at this. Baby sister has something to say now, hm?"

"You can't talk about them like that." You said

"No no, let him." Lo'ak turned back, "Yknow, we may be freaks. I mean look at this finger, weird right? But look what I can do with it" He said, closing his hand into a fist "...so just close it up like this, alright? Real tight And then just-" Lo'ak said as he punched him in the face

Ao'nung held his nose and looked back at him, punching him back. The two kept punching each other, "Guys stop! Neteyam do something!" You said

Neteyam sighed and joined in

"That's not what I meant" You yelled, trying to pull them apart as Kiri watched them and laughed

Someone saw the fight and ran to call Tonowari, who called Jake as well.

Soon, they broke the fight up. Tonowari talked to Ao'nung, he let him go and looked to the others.

"I got this" Jake said to him and began walking away, Lo'ak soon followed

Tonowari walked away and you just stood there, Ao'nung then came to you.

"You know what your problem is, y/n? You always try to fix something but you just end up making it worse. Because that's just who you are. You can't even fix yourself. If you didn't just mind your own fucking business this wouldn't have happened." He said and walked away, leaving you there trying to contain yourself.

What you didn't know was that Neteyam heard the whole thing. He quickly turned to see you running off. He shook his head and began walking towards Ao’nung till his dad called him.

“Dad wait-“

"Now, Neteyam. We need to talk." Jake sternly said, Neteyam saw as your figure faded away, and sighed.

You sat alone, far from anywhere else. Sitting in silence, fidgeting with your hands and looking into nothing.

You always try to fix something but you just end up making it worse.

Those words echoed throughout your head.

"Y/n!" A voice called, you turned to see Neteyam there.

"What are you doing here?" You asked

"I heard what Ao'nung said." He admitted, you froze and slowly turned around

"What about it?" You said, looking at the ground

He sighed, getting closer and sitting next to you. It was quiet for a moment.

"I want you to know something, y/n." He cut the silence, "It's not true."

"You don't know that-"

"Yes, I do! You're perfect! Why don't you understand that?" His voice got suddenly louder, "I see you, y/n. I see you everyday, I see you being as kind as you can to everyone, I see you ready to help and do anything just to make someone smile, I see how you care, how you smile, how you make me feel things that I shouldn't! I see you."

You just sat there staring at him, processing everything he's said.

"Neteyam..." You whispered

God, how he loved the sound of his name on your lips.

He grabbed your hand, placing it on his chest, "Say you see me too. Please say you see me too." He pleaded

You looked at him for a moment, "I see you too" You said

A smile found its way upon his face, he gripped the wrist of the hand that was on his chest, he held your hand and kissed it, he kept kissing your hand and made his way to your arm, kissing up and up till he got to your face

He looked at you for a moment, you cradled his cheek with your free hand, smiling at him as you leaned in closer, his lips finding yours

He melted into the kiss, and you backed away, your eyes wide

"Is...something wrong?" He asked, confused

"We shouldn't-we shouldn't do this." You said, getting up and running off, ignoring his calls

Chapter Four: I knew you could do it.

"You, go take care of the Ilu. And you, go help your mother with the knitting."

"...what about me, father?"

"Everything needs to be perfect, you've done enough."

Neteyam sat with his family as he ate breakfast. They all seemed to be normal, talking and being casual while Neteyam was silent. His thoughts set on you.

You seemed like a very nice person, quite smart, quite skilled.

So why did you always talk down to yourself? You were just as good as everyone, if not better.

"Yo bro" Lo'ak said, snapping Neteyam out of his thoughts, "Why are you learning with that girl instead of Tsireya and Ao'nung?" He asked

"The girl has a name, Lo'ak. Her name's Y/n and she happens to be their sister."

"Wait wait, Ao'nung has two sisters?" Kiri asked, "That's weird, he doesn't really mention her"

"Yeah, kind of got that." Neteyam said to himself, staring at the ground with a bothered look on his face, "I'm gonna go get to lessons early" He abrupty said as he got up and left

He walked to your marui pod, looking for you, he couldn't find you there. But instead, he found your parents sitting there, talking. Before he could speak, he couldn't help but overhear their conversation.

"Y/n's teaching the Sully children as well?" Tonowari asked

"Yes, she seems to be doing a good job. That oldest boy now knows how to ride an Ilu." Ronal said, nodding

"Well then, let's hope she doesn't do something to embarrass us all"

Neteyam froze as he heard them talking about you, they were your parents. How can they speak of you like that? Neteyam walked away, shaking his head and sighing.

This wasn't his place, he shouldn't say anything.

"There you are!" You said as you walked towards him, his eyes softened as he saw you, "I went to your marui, your brother said you were coming to my marui" You said, a light chuckle coming out of at the thought of how you two went the opposite way to get the other person

"You're a natural at riding the Ilu, so we should focus on the breathing exercises today. I'm sure you're gonna be just as good as you are on the Ilu" You said as you both walked to a spot to sit

He glanced at you, and looked down. You were so sweet, the way you encouraged him, the way you'd smile at him.

That damned smile.

How could anyone think less of you?

"You okay? You've been quiet for a while" You asked, genuine concern in your eyes

"Uh yeah, yeah. Just hope I can get it right this time"

"You will, I'm sure! You're great, sooner or later you'll be able to stay underwater for longer than I can" You assured him

He lightly laughed, "Sure" He snorted

☽-☼ You two sat there, your hand placed on his lower stomach, softly speaking

"Close your eyes, listen to the sounds of water." You whispered, "Feel the wind around you, breathe in" You said, breathing in with him, "Breathe out"

He breathed out, opening his eyes to look at you

"I think it's time" You said, he nodded and got up, you stood up as well, looking around and finding a seashell, "Wait for a few seconds to make sure it goes deep down" You said

"Okay" He nodded again, you threw the seashell into the water, waiting for a few seconds till he jumped into the water, you got in the water and dipped your head in to see him

You watched as he swam deep down, you fidgeted with your hands, ready to help him if he's out of breath. He was gone for a few seconds, and your eyes widened, just as you were about to go check on him, you saw him swimming back up, the seashell in hand

Once he got to the surface, he smiled widely at you

"I did it! I wasn't even out of breath!" He exclaimed

"I knew you could do it!" You cheered, hugging him

"Me? It was all you! You taught me, didn't you?" He chuckled as you two let go of each other, you just smiled and looked down, He lifted your chin up with his finger, "Thank you for teaching me" He softly said

The moon and the sun.

Chapter Three: The Beauty of the Moon

You always thought it was odd how when the sun was up, everybody was outside, enjoying its heat and light. But when the moon was up, everybody went back inside, not caring about it as much as they cared about the sun.

The moon was just like the sun, just as beautiful, it lit up the night sky just as the sun lit up the day. So why doesn't anyone seem to notice the moon as much as they noticed the sun?

"These are Ilu" Ao'nung said as he pointed to the creatures in the water, "If you want to live here, you have to ride."

You stood next to Neteyam as looked at the Ilu, "None of them are attacking me" He said and you raised an eyebrow

"What do you mean?" You asked

"How will I know which one is destined for me?" He asked

"Look at them, any one of them. You will get a feeling, and that's just how you know which one is destined for you." You explained

He nodded and looked around, spotting one

"This one...I feel that it's the one for me" He said, and swam to it, he got on it's back

"Be gentle, now form the bond" You spoke, watching as he held up his braid and connected his queue with the Ilu's. "Feel him. His breath, his strength"

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, and taking in the Ilu.

You grabbed his hand and placed it on the handle

"Hold here" You said

"Wait how do you control this thing-" Before he could continue his sentence, his Ilu swam in the speed of light, you ducked your head in the water, watching as he held on to the Ilu for dear life, a smile rising up on your lips

He finally let go and swam up to the surface, he coughed up some water and glanced at you, seeing you smiling

"Do you enjoy seeing people suffer?" He said, making you laugh

"Here, let me show you" You said as you called your Ilu

After some time, it was getting late and you decided to call it a day, making plans to meet up tomorrow for more lessons. Once everybody went home, you sat by the shore, watching as the sun set.

You suddenly heard footsteps, snapping you out of your trance. You got up and went into defense mode

"Relax, just me" Neteyam said as he raised his hands up, a light smile on your face

"What are you doing here?" You asked

"I'm supposed to ask you that question. I thought you went home?"

You sighed and looked back at the moon, "I was, but I just wanted to stay for a little bit."

He noticed how your blue eyes had a glow in them, a reflection of the moon.

"You like watching the moon?" He said as he sat down with you

"I've always liked watching the moon, it just gives me peace." You responded, fidgeting with your hands

"Can I ask you a question?" He said

"Go ahead"

"Why don't you talk to your siblings?" He asked, you furrowed your eyebrows and looked to him

"What do you mean? I always talk to them"

"I mean, yeah sure. But you always seem to talk to them as if they aren't your siblings, like they are just some acquaintances" He said, and you looked down

"I don't know, I guess I just-"

"Y/n."

You both turned to see your dad calling

"Sorry, father." You quickly said, getting up, "I have to go, quickly go before they see you, bye Neteyam" You said, waving to him as you walked away with no context

He just waved back and slowly began walking away

"How many times have I told you to stop coming here and staring at that stupid planet all night." He could hear Tonowari say, Neteyam's expression faltered

You walked back home to see your mother sitting there

"I'm sorry mother" You immediately said, before even greeting her

"For what?" She asked, confused

"She was outside past eclipse" He said

"I was nearby..." You said and your father loudly sighed, you went quiet and went to help your mother make dinner in silence. It was odd how she didn't make a comment like she always did.

A few moments later, Ao'nung and Tsireya came, sitting down and waiting for dinner

"Neteyam asked you to teach him?" Tsireya whispered and you simply nodded, "Somebody has a crush on you" She teased

"It's not like that. I'm sure." You whispered back

"We'll see." She smiled

"Why can't you do one simple thing right, hm?"

"I'm sorry, mother."

"Whatever. Go. Do it right this time, or at least try."

"Okay, I'm sorry."

You walked with him, the awkwardness in the air consuming you. You wished you could just leave.

“And that’s uh, my family’s marui pod.” You pointed and he nodded

You were now walking by the shore, staring at the sky

“Thanks for showing me around…I’m Neteyam, by the way” He spoke

“Nice to meet you, Neteyam. I’m y/n” You smiled, reaching out your hand, he smiled at the gesture and took your hand, shaking it

“Nice to meet you as well” He responded, and you continued walking, “So, why don’t you teach us your ways like your siblings?” He asked

Your smile faltered, not knowing what to say.

Oh sorry but it seems like my dad forgot that i exist and didn't really mention me to anyone so i don't really know?

Okay maybe not the best way to answer

“Oh uh, I don’t know. My dad thought two was enough, I guess” You answered, and he nodded

“Well, Tsireya and Ao’nung can teach Kiri and Lo’ak. How about you teach me? Just me.” He asked

You were quiet for a moment, “Why though? My brother and sister are excellent teachers. They’re the best at everything, I’m sure you’ll want to learn from the highly skilled.” You said

He furrowed his eyebrows, confused as to why you’d speak of them as if they were superior to you? As if they weren’t just your siblings?

“I'm sure you’re just as good as them, or maybe better! Besides, my siblings are a handful. I think they’ll have enough trouble dealing with them.” Neteyam said

Why do you want me? I’m not as good as them, you thought to yourself

“Okay, I’ll teach you. But I may not be a good teacher” You warned

“We’ll see” He chuckled, you looked to him and chuckled as well

The next day you had breakfast with your family and got ready to leave

"Hold on" Ronal said, you stopped and turned to her, "Where are you going, child?"

"I'm going with my siblings to teach the Sully kids." You said

"Oh" She said, the sudden reminder that her husband didn't really mention you to them crossed her mind, ''Be careful" She lightly smiled

"Okay, bye mom" You said as you walked out

Tonowari walked in a couple of moments after, seeing Ronal's sullen expression

"Is everything alright, dear?" He asked, concern showing on his face

She was quiet for a moment, till she nodded

You swam in the water, observing Neteyam. How he goes to get air every couple of seconds, how he's slow in the water, how he just seems lost

You swam up to the surface, giggling at how he was so out of breath

He looked at you, wiping his face, "What, what is funny?" He asked

"You just seem so helpless" You said, giggling, you suddenly stopped, realizing it might have been a not so nice thing to say, "I'm sorry" You were quick to apologize, he smiled and lightly chuckled

"No no, it's fine. That's because I am" He responded and you smiled

"Come, let me help you" You sat, grabbing his arm and leading him back to the land since you had gone so far

You two sat down, crossing your legs

"First, let's fix the breathing. You keep swimming back up to get air"

"How do I hold my breath for longer like you?" He asked

"I will help. We will do a breathing exercise, it helped me when I was young" You sat and he nodded, "Now, take a deep breath." You said, doing the same, you looked at him for a moment and grabbed his arm

"Breath from here" You said, placing his hand on his lower stomach, "Do it with me, let your heartbeat be slow and steady" You softly said, taking a deep breath for him, you removed his hand and placed yours instead, "Let's do it one more time" you spoke, looking into his eyes and taking a deep breath, his eyes met yours and he froze

"Your heartbeat is fast, you need to be calmer" You noted

"Sorry" He quickly said, looking away and doing it again

"Better" You smiled, and he smiled back, you looked at the water to see your siblings showing the others the Ilu, "Come, let's move on to something else. We will have to do this exercise again, but for now, let me show you something" You said, you both headed to where the others were

"There you were, bro! I thought you disappeared, why didn't you take lessons?" Lo'ak said as he saw you two walking by

"I was" He said

Tsireya and Ao'nung looked to you, confused to see you there

"She was teaching me" Neteyam said, the others nodded while your siblings just looked at each other and moved on

You saw them and wanted the world to swallow you whole.

Chapter one - Uturu.

a/n: this is a mini series i decided to start! i hope it turns out good, enjoy!

The moon.

You've always been fond of the moon

The moon hid behind the sun. Everyone always favored the sun over the moon, it was a bundle of sunshine, a sun was always thought of as a symbol of happiness, as the big star, outshining everyone and everything.

Nobody could compete with the sun, after all.

You sat by the shore, watching the fish swim around

"Y/n!" A voice called

You turned to see Tsireya walking to you

"Sister, I've been looking for you!" She said

"Is something wrong?" You asked, getting up

"Mother wants you" She said, you nodded with a light smile, taking a deep breath as you headed to your family's marui pod

You walked in to see your mom muttering to herself, a look of disappointment on her face, as usual

"Mother?" You said, she turned to you, "You called for me?"

She sighed, "Didn't I tell you to give these to the families living the northern side? You know it gets cold for them." She said, pointing to the baskets filled with blankets and scarves she knitted herself

"Sorry mother" You were quick to say as you grabbed the basket and left the marui pod, going to homes in the north

As you walked, you noticed something flying in the sky, it wasn't that far, but it looked like it was getting closer

You dismissed it and finally got to the marui pods, the families thanked you as you handed them each their own basket, you simply smiled at them and headed back home

When you got there, you saw everyone crowded around something, some people made way for you to see what's happening. You furrowed your eyebrows as you saw a couple of people that looked odd.

Well, not odd, but they were clearly not from this clan. Forest people, you assumed based on what you've learned about the other clans and what they looked like

One of them caught your eye, he stood next to a slightly shorter boy, his hands open to show that he means no harm.

"Uturu?!" Ronal, your mother, excalimed, suddenly snapping you back to reality

"Yes, a sanctuary for my family." The man standing in front of you said

Your father, Tonowari looked to Ronal and back to the man, "We are reef people...you are forest people, your skills will mean nothing here."

"We will learn your ways, right?" The man looked to the others and they agreed

"That's Toruk Makto" Tsireya whispered to you and your eyes widened, you were just wondering why he looked so familiar

Why was Toruk Makto coming here to live with the reef people?

Ronal looked at them and walked to the girl who was standing behind her mother, you assume.

She grabbed her arms and raised them, "They are not even true Na'vi!" She exclaimed

"Mom..." The girl whispered, "Yes we are!" She said as Ronal inspected the others

She grabbed the shorter boy's hands, revealing them to the clan, "They have demon blood!" She yelled

You looked at the boy, seeing his uncomfortable state. You felt a little bad for him and how your mother was talking about him.

"Look!" Toruk Makto said, showing his hand that looked the same as his son, "I was one of the sky people now I am Na'vi, we can adapt!" He said

Ronal and Tonowari looked at each other, as if speaking through their eyes. He sighed and turned to them, "Toruk Makto and his family will stay with us, treat them as your brothers and sisters. They will be like babies, taking their first breath. But we will teach them our ways so they do not have to suffer the shame of being useless." He stated to the clan and turned back

"Our son, Ao'nung, and our daughter, Tsireya will teach you their ways." He said as you just stood there quietly

"Come on, what do we say?" He said to his daughter, "Thank you" She answered, the others repeating her words

The family followed Tsireya as she went to lead them to their own marui pod

You followed your mother as she went back home, and grabbed an empty basket

"They're new here so they might not have any important things." She spoke

"Shall I start knitting them some blankets and scarves?" You asked, ready to try and help

"No no, there won't be enough time. It might take days, we'll just have to give them some of ours, and some welcoming gifts" She said, you nodded and began grabbing some items to place in the basket

You walked towards the marui pod, seeing Tsireya smiling as she talked to the shorter boy you'd seen earlier by the shore.

"Hello" You said, a light smile on your face, "My mother wanted to give you these. The Tsahik always makes welcoming gifts for newcomers"

"Tsahik?" The woman said, "You are her daughter?"

You nodded, "Pardon me, I thought it was only Tsireya and Ao'nung." She apologized

"Oh no no, it's alright. People tend to think that too" You said, an awkward silence meeting your ears, "Uh anyway, here are some blankets, some fruits, just a whole bunch of things we think you might need"

"Thank you" A boy suddenly said, your eyes met his, you were quiet for a moment

"Yes, no-you're welcome" You said, leaving

“Wait” The boy said, you looked back to see him getting up, “Mind if I come with you, so you can show me around?”

“I thought my siblings were gonna do that?” You questioned

“They seem busy with the others”

“Uh, alright” You said, he awkwardly smiled and went with you

God was this awkward.
