"Really? Shit.. You really don’t have to if it’s too far.” Lola felt bad for making him do this for her, after all she was the one who freaked out on him, not the other way around. “I would seriously owe you big time and I don’t know if I cant handle that responsibly.” Lola joked.

Stopping in her tracks, Natasha pulls her large hood back, brows furrowing at the small brunette before her. “Um— not following you, just getting home,” she responds flatly, bringing her combat boots closer. “You’re totally on edge, are you okay?” While she hardly lends a free hand to anyone, Natasha felt somewhat sympathetic. It wasn’t too long ago that she was also treading through a dark night trying to make it home, barely making enough to grab a snack on the way.

Seeing the girls reaction to her accusation made it evidently clear that Lola had indeed over reacted and let her paranoia get the best of her. “Shit,” the girl mumbled under her breath, “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to freak out. Just nerves, sorry.” Lola apologized as she shoved her hands back in her pockets. The brunette looked up when she heard the girls question, if she was honest not many people payed attention to her so it was strange getting the question from a stranger. “Um yea. Making my way home too, actually. I dunno there something about these streets at night that just freaks me out a little.” It also didn’t help that she sold illegal robots so Lola knew she really shouldn’t trust everyone she meets, even though she usually does.

Lola had just come from dropping of a house cleaning bot for one of her loyal clients, sure didn’t love having to take the trip with the illegal bot through the streets herself; but the fee she charged for delivery was sure worth it. Everything had gone smoothly, she got there and made the trade with no hick ups. It was on the way home, when Lola had let her guard down now that she no longer had anything illegal on her, that she almost got caught. The girl didn’t notice her small screwdriver fall from her pocket, but apparently someone else had. Feeling the grip on her shoulder Lola immediately thought it was her client she just dropped off to coming back to complain, “Listen Greg if there’s something wrong with it you can - ” until she turned around and saw the uniform. “Oh! Uh sorry, not who I thought.” Lola could feel her heart speed up. Was she getting busted? “I what - oh shit.” Lola said seeing her lucky screwdriver in the officer’s hand. “Thank you so much.” Lola said, hoping this was just a coincidence and not some ploy to arrest her. She just hopped the officer couldn’t tell how nervous she had become.

If she were keeping a list of noteworthy shifts, this one wouldn’t make the cut. It’s been relatively quiet, comprised almost entirely of breaking up minor disputes and following up on prior incidents. No excitement so far, and constant surveillance of her surroundings as she shifts easily through the heavy foot traffic consuming the narrow city streets yields nothing of consequence. But she does spot something slip free of someone’s pocket up ahead of her. Cecilie grabs it and picks up her pace to catch whoever it is before she loses them in the thick of the crowd. “Hey,” she says, settling a gentle hand on their shoulder as she approaches. “—Think you dropped this back there.”

Ji-hoon shook his head as he spoke, “I don’t mind at all.” He couldn’t help but be a little relieved that Lola wasn’t mad him. He never really liked it when people were mad at him–irritated or annoyed he could deal with. “Were you out late working?” he asked, curious. For him, the party he’d been at had been broken up early and now he was just wandering around until it inevitably formed again.
Tumblr media
Lola let out a small sigh of relief now that she was no longer walking alone, she could focus on something other then how dark and ominous the LA streets were. “Yea I was dropping off this basic door bot for some guy. Delivery fee’s to people too lazy to walk four blocks is a gold mine.” Lola said with a small smile. Her clients ranged in age and gender, but her biggest clientele were the lazy guys who wanted something to do everything for them. “What about you? What are you doing out so late?” She turned to Ji-hoon, eyebrow raised slightly.

“It’s fine, don’t worry,” Ryan answered, shaking her head. “It’s smart to be aware of what’s going on around you–especially at night.” Los Angeles was exactly a kind city, and as far a Ryan had known it, it had never been. The more paranoid the better. She laughed a little as the young woman caught herself rambling. “Hey, if you can’t tell a stranger your life story in the middle of the night who can you tell? Where are you headed anyways?” Late at night, the buddy system was best, Ryan knew that
Tumblr media
Lola was slightly surprised to hear the girl admit that Lola’s wasn’t all that paranoid after all, that being scared carried a certain level of smarts with it. Most people around Lola had always told her there nothing to worry about, how the city or it’s blade runner’s would protect her. But she knew that wasn’t the truth; and apparently so did other people. Lola let out a laugh as the girl reassured her about her rambling. “I’m just headed home, I’m about another 2 blocks away then around the corner. You?” Lola figured the girl was thinking they could walk together, and company was something Lola definitely wasn’t going to turn down.

“Th-The dark co-could be s-scary,” Cris agreed. He remembered once when he was a young child. Five, maybe six. The lights turned off in one of the rooms he was in, and power made it so the doors wouldn’t open so he could leave. That memory — false memory, not that he realized — did scar him. “An-Anything I-I can do t-to make it u-up?”
Tumblr media
Lola felt a wave of relief pass over her when it became more clear he didn’t have any hard feelings towards her outburst. She felt bad for replicant’s, she wanted to help them in any way she could so the thought of one being mad at her for something silly she did, well she was glad it wasn’t like that. “Really? I mean it’s kinda a lot to ask but do you think you would walk with me the rest of the way?” Lola asked with her eyebrow slightly raised. “If you were going the other direction though don’t worry about it.” She didn’t want to make him go out of his way, but the company sure would settle her nerves.

“Nah, girl, I get it,” Whim said, picking up her pace so that she caught up with the young woman. It was nice to actually interact with people for once, not just create memories for replicants to keep them down. “I keep my mace on me no matter what. When it’s dark an’ rainy, who knows whos doing what.”
Tumblr media
“If ya need a friend to walk with, I can hang around for a bit.”
It was nice to have the girl understand her point of view, part of her though she might get a mocking laugh when she admitted she had a fear of the dark, but when she heard the blonde carried mace with her Lola knew the girl understood. “Exactly, one of the things my mom use to say to me was it’s better to be too prepared then not prepared enough.” Lola said as the two continued to walk down the street.
Tumblr media
Hearing the girls offer to walk with her, Lola felt relieved but also a little guilty. She didn’t want to seem like a wimp and have a stranger walk her home, but for some reason Lola already had a trusting feeling about the girl. “Are you sure? I’m down the street a little more and then around the corner. I don’t wanna make you go out of your way.”

WHAT ABOUT YOU IS HEROIC?
The question was something that really made Lola think, heroic definitely wasn't a word she was use to describe herself. Although she was certainly one to stick up for what she believed in, no matter what the consequences were. Passionate was a word she better associated herself with. But in some ways maybe her passion was her heroic quality. Lola was quite when it came it being social and standing out but when she felt she needed to speak up about something there was almost nothing stopping her. It was part of her stubbornness she got from her father. Lola still remembers the time she stuck her family’s replicant out of the house and away from the Blade Runners when she was sixteen. Lola had a lot of sympathy for replicant, enough to get her a in a lot of trouble. But it has never stopped her from trying to overcome the Wallace corporation, and stop the termination of old or rebel replicant’s. It had been a long time since Lola remembered back to her days with her family, but at least she had an answer now. “I’d say my passion for what’s right is what makes me heroic.” Lola’s finally gave her answer with a satisfied smile.

“S-S-Sorry,” Cris stuttered, caught off guard by the young woman’s aggression towards him. He didn’t catch onto all the social cues of what was odd and what was too close when it came to walking beside others. It did get him into occasional trouble with his co-workers. Spacial awareness? That was a foreign concept to the replicant. “I w-wasn’t. Sw-Swear. I h-hope I didn’t of-offend y-y-you.”
Tumblr media
Lola isn’t a normally aggressive person, so when she realized she hugely misread the situation she felt the wave of guilt come crashing over her. “No - no it’s okay it’s my fault. I overreacted which is not uncommon for me.” Part of being an inventor was knowing how things worked, and Lola knew that was no natural stutter, it was a malfunction. Lola’s sympathy grew as she realized the situation. “Really you don’t have to worry, the dark makes me paranoid sometimes and I freaked out, clearly.” She said with her mouth finally coming into a small smile.

“Hun, don’t think of yourself as anythin’ worth followin’ around,” Whim joked, wondering why the girl was so worried about the fact of someone walking behind her. All the blonde was doing was walking home to sleep in her own apartment — something that was a rarity these days.  Humans were odd to her, despite being one herself. “Look, I’m just headin’ home. Don’t worry, I won’t bite.”
Tumblr media
Lola couldn’t help but let out a small sigh of relief, of course it was just some other person, we much as the girl might have been joking she was right, why would anyone be following her. After her guard finally came down she let herself smile slightly. “I’m sorry, that was so silly I just, it’s kid stuff but man the dark freaks me out sometimes.” She said with a slight laugh. Lola actually felt a big better knowing another young girl was walking the same way she was if even only for a little bit.

“I–sorry–” Ji-hoon started. There wasn’t really a great explanation for it, he knew. He definitely hadn’t meant to come off as a creep, but there he was. “I was just going to ask if you wanted someone to walk you wherever you were going? I don’t know if you remember me, I’m Ji-hoon Park? I bought a little desk bot from you a couple of months ago.”
Tumblr media
Hearing the kind request Lola immediately felt bad for lashing out withing thinking more logically first. If someone was after her she would know it, probably. More then likely anyone coming up to her wants to buy something off her or once had before. Other then that Lola didn’t talk to many other people. “Yes, yes Hi Ji-hoon. I’m sorry I get a little anxious being out at night. If you really don’t mind walking me, I’m not far from here I promise.” Lola felt bad, like she was being a hassle but the girl didn’t want to walk the rest of the way with her heart racing in her chest.

Ryan said goodbye to her coworker and replicant for the night, locking up the shop behind her. Before heading home, she had some errands to run. Namely, Ryan had to go and get some groceries from the corner store. It wasn’t too far and the night wasn’t too bad, so a walk rather than a jaunt with her motorcycle sounded best. After being the shop all day, it felt good to walk further than just from wall to wall. It was a quiet night–or so Ryan had thought until a girl walking not far off from where she was called out. Ryan looked behind her and then back to the girl, “Me?” she asked, pointing to herself for a moment. “This is just the quickest way to the store. I didn’t mean to scare you, sorry.”
Tumblr media
When Lola saw the surprise on the girls face cause by her outburst she had even deeper regret for letting her unnecessary paranoia get the best of her. “Shit. I’m sorry - I um was never very good with the dark.” Lola could feel her heart rate slow back down slightly. “The streets and night have always kinda been unsettling, but maybe that’s just me.” Lola said before she caught herself rambling, another reaction to her nerves. “And now I’m telling a stranger my life story. Sorry.”

It was late, probably too late to be walking around the streets alone but Lola didn’t really have a choice at this point. She could barley afford her crappy apartment let alone a car. She couldn’t help but be a bit paranoid when it was this dark out, so after she heard what she thought were foot steps getting closer behind her her heart rate speed up. Finally the girl abruptly turned around, her hands going up as if to defend herself from whatever her mind imagined was behind her. “Why are you following me?” Part of her brain realized she was more paranoid then she needed to be but the dark and quiet streets around her made her imagination go wild.
