Her smile melted to only a slight tug of her lips as she could see he needed to discus something serious. She tilted her head to the side, an old habit of hers, as she listened carefully and tried to make him feel comfortable about whatever he was going to throw at her. Having seen lots of weird witchcraft, she knew she would probably be able to help him with whatever magic assistance he needed. Only when he pulled her farther away from the heart of the festivities, her smile vanished into a slight frown. This seemed to be more serious than just help for some spell. She crossed her arms as he started his sentence, trying to brace herself for what was going to come, but when he named her siblings as his own, she dropped them in surprise. His brothers. Elijah and Finn... A thousand years ago. Things started to click inside her head; his name ‘Henry’ no doubt short for Henrik, a witch, why he had seemed so familiar. Tears started to form in the corner of her eyes; usually she would try to not show weakness, but this was her youngest brother. The brother she had given up all hope of ever meeting, the twelve year old boy she had seen playing with Klaus and Rebekah when she had been able to sneak a spell behind Dahlia’s back. She held in a sob as she stepped forward and wrapped her arms about Henrik. Their Henrik. After a minute of holding him tightly, she spoke into his shoulder. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” But she wasn’t angry. She was too happy to be angry.

Henrik chuckled and gave her a soft smile. When she spoke about asking her brothers for proper etiquette he took a moment to think over how to go about things before speaking. “Freya, I have something I need to discuss with you actually.” he said and looked around before leading her a little bit away from a crowd of incoming people so they could hear one another better. Once they had stepped aside, he looked back at her with a slightly anxious grin. “What little bit I know about nobility and respect… I learned from my brothers. Elijah and Finn Mikaelson….” he said slowly and carefully. “…Over a thousand years ago.” he added after a slight pause.

Freya smiled at the hybrid’s bluntness, a nice change from the rest of the party. “I know my brothers can be a lot of work sometimes, but I’m glad you can see the perks as well.” Her eyes sparkled in amusement. It was nice to have Hayley around, so she wasn’t the only woman in the family. Ever since Rebekah had left, the house had been lonely despite her other siblings and the amount of enemies that barged in lately. “Thank you. You look beautiful yourself. I hope you read up on the Victorian Era, because I have no idea what I’m doing.” She added with a smile, but then again, Freya suspected no one really did.

Hayley, being an honorary Mikaelson, had to show her face at the part at one point or another. Although having gotten ready in the Abattoir, little was seen of the hybrid since the festivities began. She walked towards the witch she had grown close to, putting her hand up when she spoke. “You know I was going to be here. Couldn’t pass up free booze and food even if I wasn’t as close to this family as I am.” She looked around, seeing as guests filled the room. “I like your necklace, and your whole outfit.” She hummed, smiling at her friend.

Her smile turned more gentle as she saw her new young protege looking up at her, a grin perched on his lips as well. She forgot all about her uneasiness, still feeling intrigued about this young man who seemed so familiar, yet so strange. “You look quiet handsome yourself.” She answered sincerely, looking over his outfit to find it fitting perfectly with his personality. The light color instead of the black from her brother’s suits radiated a kind of innocence, the same kind of innocence she had felt from him the day they had met.
She looked around her as well, admiring the decorations. She hadn’t been around, but whoever had set up the party had done a great job. Her eyes sparkled in amusement as he took her hand, for once not minding the - what she had thought back in 1814, since the already high enough causes of the plague - unnecessary gesture. It felt nostalgic in some way, almost in the same way the overly courteous gestures Elijah always makes felt. She shrugged at his question though, making a dismissive gesture with her hand as soon as he had let go. “I wouldn’t know. I missed the Victorian era, but as far as I have figured out it’s way more pompous and flashy. Perhaps you should ask one of my brothers on the correct etiquette, but I don’t really care.”

Though Henrik had been at the party for a short while already, he had just now finished rounding his way throughout the inner courtyard of the compound. He felt Freya’s approach before she was near him and speaking. A warm smile spread across his face and he looked her over before he spoke. “Thank you, Freya. You look beautiful.” he said honestly. She hadn’t been home when he and Niklaus made it back from their ‘chat’, so he knew at some point he needed to bring up the matter of properly introducing himself to her. He was a little uncertain though. Freya was the only sibling he really did not know much about, other than the little bit that Niklaus had spoken of her.
“Everything looks amazing. I’m completely out of my league here.” he said as he looked around and gave her a light chuckle. “Oh, I’m sorry..” he said and quickly tipped his hat to her before taking her hand and kissing it lightly as he had seen other men do to the women around the party. “Is this the right thing?” he asked her quietly before chuckling once more.

“I was just practicing, Elijah. It’s been a while and even then I had dear aunt Dahlia watching over my every move.” She smiled warmly at her younger brother, determined to not let the past ruin the present. Her heart warmed at the display of brotherly affection, immediately feeling more comfortable and dismissing every bad thought towards the back of her mind. She was here with her family; she was happy. She could almost imagine how she had felt when she was but a child, playing with Finn in the garden of their small cottage and singing songs to Elijah inside their mother’s belly. She hooked her arm through her brother’s and looked up at his face fondly, before following his gaze around the room. “I’m not the slightest bit surprised Klaus isn’t here yet, but the room feels horribly empty without Rebekah.”

“It would seem unfitting for me not to attend,” Elijah replied bluntly, yet the smile on his face countered the serious tone in his voice. Freya was a sight to behold in the silk and jewels that complimented her small frame, the brother glad to see his sister trying to enjoy the night. Still, his eyes did cast downward toward her feet, having seen the display of her attempt in balance. Without a word, Elijah held out an arm as a proper escort would, nodding his head to signify his intentions. “It appears we lack understanding in being ‘fashionably late’,” he remarked as he looked about for any sign of their other siblings. “Are you enjoying yourself?”

Freya glanced over herself in the mirror, making sure everything was perfectly in place. Lucky to have found a dress that she assumed - or hoped - had been Rebekah’s in one of the boxes in the basement, she was even more lucky to find that it fitted perfectly. She didn’t understand why they hadn’t burned all of those clothes long ago. Its what she had done once she had awoken in 1914, glad to see that human kind had evolved in both fashion style and hygiene. Even if she hadn’t burned her clothes from the renaissance era, she wouldn’t have had anything to wear, because she had slept through Queen Victoria’s entire reign. Perhaps her siblings had thought differently about it, especially her darling sister; her childish naivety and determination to make the best of everything had probably loved the romantic side of it.
She knew the necklace she was wearing didn’t really fit the rest of her attire, but for some reason she had felled compelled to wear it. Anyway she felt satisfied with the result, even though it brought back unpleasant memories. She turned around on the uncomfortable heels that weren’t any better than the ones she had been forced the wear every day during her year in the nineteenth century and stumbled before straightening herself up, putting up a smile and walking towards the heart of the party to greet the first arrivals. She had hated these kind of parties when they were in the right era, being forced to go with Dahlia to meet kings and powerful noblemen on a daily basis. But this time she was a member of the Mikaelson family, she was one of the hosts alongside her siblings just like she had wanted to be back when she had first met them, so she would smile and pretend to be enjoying herself just for the sake of belonging. She maneuvered her dress towards the people that had just arrived, a graceful smile on her lips as she had seen Rebekah do. “I’m so glad you could make it.”

Her smile faltered slightly when he wasn’t looking. Memories of the years spend with Dahlia came rushing back, even though she always tried to repress them, making her eyes sting slightly. But somehow he was also right; evil or not, she had learned a lot from her. Not just controlling her magic, but also learning to use her powers to its greatest potential. Still, Dahlia had made her see and do things she would never want to think about again.
She was snapped back to the present when a chair moved around the room on its own. Freya had been so far out of it, that it took her a second to realize it was Henry doing what she had asked. She listened to what he had to say - most of it was pretty basic stuff, things she had learned as a preteen - and the dazed expression left her features immediately. But his last line was what caught her full attention; what witches? He had said he didn’t curse any of her family and that he wasn’t against them - and she had believed him - but as far as Freya knew, her family wasn’t friendly with any witches except herself and maybe Davina. “I can teach you how to, but first you need to tell me all about those witches.”
Tumblr media
Henrik followed her, still looking around as they entered the small salon and he took a seat across from her. “A trick you learned from your aunt? Well, that’s a pretty useful trick.” he said and chuckled softly. So he had an aunt that was a witch as well? He was just learning more and more about his family. He smiled as she wanted to see what he could do and nodded, looking around for something to focus on before settling on one of the small chairs situated along the wall. He held his hand out to it and focused. He had gotten down not needing to verbally command the ‘Motus’ spell; which proved useful at times. The chair slid across the room and he glanced over at Freya before pulling it back across and over to him.
“I can send things flying if I wanted, but I didn’t want to break anything.” he said and smiled. “Aside from basic rituals, locator spells, and some other common spells I am pretty adept at forcing my magic into people’s skulls for a mental attack.” he said, but frowning a little. “But, when I do that, I can’t control how fast the pain comes—so it usually hits them like a train, and I start bleeding from my nose.” he explained softly. “I’ve been trying to learn new spells too. The witches that helped me get set up in this town told me there is a lot of power at my disposal; but I just have to learn to tap into that and control it.” he said.

The beginning of a scowl started to tug at the corner of her lip. She knew there were more important things to worry about, but still she couldn’t help it. It was some kind of jealousy that she felt at his words, a jealousy that reflected all she had been through over the last one thousand years. In the years that she had been gone - dead in her sibling’s eyes - they had made many enemies, but they had also adopted new family, such as Marcel and now this guy. That strangers had gotten to spend more time with the family she cared so deeply for, made her heart ache for her lost childhood, the parts of the bond with her siblings that were missing, and everything that could have been. She decided she didn’t like this guy. She leaned back against the back of the sofa, crossing her legs and arms, suddenly not caring if he attacked or not. “Well it seems like you are the only one in trouble then; my siblings can’t be killed. You might be almost as old as them, but you aren’t an original. They can’t die, but you can.”
Tumblr media
Oliver wasn’t surprised in the woman’s immediate reaction to him, he knew how many enemies the family had. It was one of the many factors that lead him to go down his own path for many years. Oliver knew even if she looked more relaxed an attack on him would only take a fraction of a second, so he was careful to not make any sudden movements to alarm her. “You’re family is my family in a way. Perhaps not by blood, but by allegiance and loyalty. Of course there are members of the family i’m less than enthused to help however as a whole your family is important to me” he explained. “I’m nearly as old as you all, I was turned not long after. “You see these things impact us all. I’ve killed my share of hunters over the years, it’s not just vampires coming back. It’s seemingly everything that had a supernatural binding”.

At his confusion and shock, Freya gave him a sympathetic smile and shrugged, waving her hand through the air in a dismissing gesture. “It’s a long story.” She moved back towards the small salon in the corner of the courtyard and indicated towards Henry that he could take a seat. Sitting down herself, she placed her glass on the coffee table and sat back against the back of the sofa, crossing her legs casually. “It’s a little trick I learned from my aunt, but that’s not important.” She moved on from the subject quickly, not wanting to linger on it too long. Even after she was gone, her aunt Dahlia was probably still the person she feared most. She didn’t want to spend much time thinking about the time she had lost or the person who had ruined her life, feeling that if she avoided it, warded it off with sarcasm or acted as if it wasn’t a big deal, it would hurt less. But it still did. “Show me what you can do.” She demanded, a soft, amused smile crossing her lips.
Tumblr media
Henrik looked at her a moment. “The witches are against you?” he asked curiously and then shook his head. “No, I didn’t try to curse anyone. You can tell I’m a witch though? I wish I could get a hang on that kind of thing. I’m still a newbie with my abilities really. I can do some things; but I don’t have much control over them.” he sighed some and smiled at her.

She nodded slightly in agreement, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips. But she didn’t want to elaborate about that either, seeing as her relationship with her siblings was still... ah, complicated. Sure, she would protect them with her life and she was pretty sure they would do the same, but she was a new addition, no matter if she was the oldest or not. It was still figuring out where she belonged between her siblings; she wasn’t the naive younger sister they had to protect and she wasn’t a vampire like the rest of them. No matter what she had been through, her siblings had gone through a lot as well, but they had had each other and counted on one another to be there; it is still figuring out what she means in the family. “You met my family, but didn’t immediately try to curse them? I can sense that you are a witch. Shouldn’t all covens be against us right now?” She didn’t believe that he was siding with the ancestors - again, for reasons she couldn’t really explain, but she had to ask, to see how he would react.
Tumblr media
He smiled. “Your family?” he said. “That’s nice. It’s always good to have your family at your side, even if you don’t always get along.” he laughed softly. “I work at a cafe several streets over from here and Rebekah and Kol came in to make some orders.” he explained. “Elijah, I met while I was out drinking.” he said. He didn’t mentioned that he hadn’t run into Niklaus or Finn yet; not wanting to have to explain how he knew about them without meeting them. He also was too afraid to ask about the whereabouts of his mother or father.

Henry. It reminds her almost of - no, it couldn’t be. He had died more than a thousand years ago and there is no way he could’ve have survived. Even with those people returning from the dead, it only seems to have been vampires that had been resurrected. He hadn’t been a vampire. She stepped away from the table and her gaze slid over the buildings enclosing them, a fond expression crossing her features. It had been the first place she had been able to call home since she had been ripped away from hers long ago. “No, I live here with my family.” She could have elaborated, but decided against it since it would take some time to explain all of it from her siblings to Hayley, the mother of her niece. “You told me you’ve met them; how?”
Tumblr media
Henrik gave her a soft smile. “Yeah, I’m sorry. My name is Henry.” he introduced himself. “This is an incredible home…” he commented as he looked around once more. “Is it just you that lives here?” he asked curiously. “This is a big place for one woman to live in.” he chuckled and grinned at her.

She didn’t immediately tense or put up her guard when he told her he had met her siblings, even though it usually was a reflex. Her family was screwed up in many different ways, so of course they had many enemies. But either he seemed so harmless she had subconsciously decided she could relax or she was still too confused and taken aback of the familiarity that radiated off of him. Eventually she tilted her head to the side and put up a polite smile. “It’s nice to meet you then - sorry, I still don’t know your name."
Tumblr media
Henrik blinked some at her name. Freya. he repeated it in his head. He was fairly certain there was only one Freya in New Orleans that he would be able to meet; but he wasn’t entirely. When she stepped forward, he tried not to hesitate as he spoke. “No, we’ve never met.” he said quietly. At least that part had been the truth. “You said your name was Freya??” he asked. “Like..Freya Mikaelson?” he asked carefully. “I met your siblings.” he said and gave her a small smile.

“Freya.” She answered without thinking, still pondering all possible ways she could know him. She was sure she hadn’t seen his face before and there really wasn’t any logical way she could know him, but his features seemed familiar as if she had known his family or had seen him as a child. She hadn’t known many people during the thousand years she had spend with Dahlia, so her options were limited. Taking two steps forwards, she closed the gap between them to get a better look at him. “Do I know you?”
Tumblr media
Henrik looked around in a quiet admiration at the compound before his eyes met back with the young woman that came to meet him. He gave her a soft, friendly smile and scratched the back of his head. “Uh, my name’s Henry. I’m sorry if I’m not supposed to be here. I kind of wander around sometimes.” he said. “What’s your name?” he asked kindly.

She was getting tired of introducing herself to everyone. Constantly wondering who she could trust and who she couldn’t. It was annoying, but she guessed that’s what happens when you sleep for a hundred years; you miss a lot. She’s been back for a while now, but still she had a lot of catching up to do. Yet she smiled at Lexi’s words. “I’m Freya.”
Tumblr media
“I like you,” she stated confidently, waving a finger at the girl as she ordered another round. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you looked at it, it took quite a bit for Lexi to get drunk given her being a vampire. “Freedom is definitely an added bonus. I’m Lexi by the way, and you are?”

The voice that answered her question wasn’t from who she had expected to answer, so she looked up in surprise. A young man walked onto the courtyard, looking at her in confusion. She looked back at him, the same look of confusion crossing her features. “Who are you?” She asked as she got up from her seat, tossing a strand of hair out of her face with a small movement of her head. She couldn’t say she knew him, but there was something of recognition. Perhaps a small spark... But no. She could sense he was a witch, meaning he couldn’t have lived long enough for her not to remember his face.
Tumblr media
It was starting to become a bad habit for Henrik to wander into places he would’ve been better off avoiding. As he stepped through the doors into the courtyard of the compound, he looked around and whistled lowly before a voice made him jump. “Have I noticed what?” he asked, furrowing his brow some in confusion. “Sorry…I thought this place was some sort of public area; the gates were unlocked.” he gestured towards the door as he followed where the voice had come from and stepped through the doorway into the room.

Freya chuckled as well at his words. Sinister wouldn’t even cut it. She ignored his first question, but walked over towards the table and started pouring herself a glass of water. A smile danced around her lips, which grew at his last words. She turned back around towards him, leaning against the table as she motioned around the courtyard with her glass. “I live here.” She answered simply.
Tumblr media
Freya. He scanned his brain for the name but no one came to mind. But she knew him, he needed to tread carefully. He listened to her advice and gave a chuckle, “That’s a little sinister isn’t it?” he smirked. “So, where am I?” he asked curiously, beginning to take a few steps around the courtyard. “And why are you lurking around here, if it’s so dark?” he smiled jokingly.

A friend of the family. As it appeared, her family had a lot of friends, but it wouldn’t be the first time one of those had turned out wanting revenge. Especially now. However, what he said made sense and at least, he didn’t seem to be the immediate danger. She watched him sit down and, relaxing a little bit more, she sat back down again too, still eying him cautiously. She pondered over his words as he spoke, not taking his eyes off of him, determined not to show any kind of weakness. That there was an imbalance was obvious, it would definitely occur if someone would be brought back from the dead, but that witches could feel it from such a distance made her worry. How many people were brought back to cause such a huge disturbance? Who would have that kind of power? “So you’ve come back? Why? What is of interest here to you?” She asked, still not trusting this so-called friend. An imbalance was dangerous - it meant some witches were up to some really, really dark stuff - but she couldn’t think of a reason why that would concern a vampire.
Tumblr media
He stopped his motion forward as she stood up, keen to not put her on the defensive and force her to use any witchcraft to subdue him. His raised his hands lightly to signal he was no harm “Oliver Kane” he said though doubted she would know him. “I’m a friend of the family” he announced and took a cautious step forward. “If I were going to attack you I wouldn’t announce myself, especially not so you can prepare some witch juju toward me. I come in peace”. He let his hands lower back to his side and take a few more slow steps until he could take a seat near her. “I have alot of witch friends, and witches talk. I was halfway around the world when they started telling me they felt something”. His eyes glanced at the book in her hand before glancing back toward her. “I don’t really know how the whole balance stuff works for you witches, but the ones i was with seemed to feel a pretty strong imbalance occurring. This is some end of days type stuff”.
