we all know laphlaes eventually finding out about the research and/or experiment wherein cesaire used his DNA to create more "tools of war" (homunculus) with using him as a genetic data provider.
but imagine if laphlaes reacted differently.
he was beyond horrified that he was used for something like this, but more like, having basically his children go through this hell in order to be used as war criminals.
laphlaes attacking the base of operations for these horrific experiments, destroying everything on sight; not sparing the scientists any mercy unless they beg and utter that they were just forced to do it and so laphlaes lets them go.
but he doesn't grant the same pity and mercy to all the heavy machineries as well as entire floors where his DNA is cultivated,
the only floor he spared were those that involved tubes where his unconscious children is kept; the long and thick vein-like wires seemingly connected to their backs painfully , they are yet to be awoken just to be taught of nothing except how to be everything but a normal child.
laphlaes gently places a hand against one particular tube, his hand meeting the cold glass,
his heart sinking seeing the innocent facial features of all these children, as well as their fetal positions that micmic a baby inside a womb.
it was all too cruel.
he roams his eyes and sees more of them, perhaps a hundred, some of these tubes had the lights taken off and he could barely see those inside, but he knew well enough from the lack of wires attached to them as well as the bubbles from their breaths, that they were the unlucky ones or so what he heard those filthy scientists say were "failed products" as if they were things meant to be set aside and thrown away if deemed useless.
laphlaes' soul aching for all of these to stop, and for all these unfortunate children to have a proper place to be laid to rest.
and so he did, with the help of his most trusted people and his men.
when he gets home, he finds nine looking up to him with wide, innocent eyes excited to see him home, and laphlaes could only kneel to the ground as he encased his son into a warm, tight yet loving hug, and wept to himself.
nine couldn't see him crying, but laphlaes felt his chest turn a little bit lighter when nine hugged back and said,
