Something that really makes Welcome Home stand out in the post-FNAF landscape, (where there are a LOT of pretty mediocre "a kid's thing but dark" horror properties) is the genuine love the creator clearly has for Jim Henson and similar style puppetry.
There's a lot of "a kid's thing but dark" style horror that doesn't take much interest in the surface level kid's media, and just wants to use it as contrast for the horror elements. But that contrast depends on the "light" elements genuinely feeling charming, sweet or nostalgic to make the "dark" hit harder. If you don't have that, the horror fails to land and the nostalgic or fun elements fail to draw you in.
Meanwhile, everything about the "surface level" show of Welcome Home (which for the most part is all we're seeing so far) is fantastic! The art is fluid and expressive, the color palette and fashion and style all fit a distinct era. The world within the show and the world of the ARG both feel fleshed out. It's very clearly Jim Henson inspired, but everything still feels original, rather than a direct parody or copy.
Anyway, I can't wait to see more of this and I'm so glad it seems to be blowing up.
