Odd that she didn’t feel that way when she starred in Victoria & Abdul.

But I guess it’s okay to tell dramatized half-truths when they’re told to glorify the centuries old institution that benefits people who look like you, or are of your same social standing and influence.

BecauseJudi Dench Opened her Mouth:

Who the hell is even watching The Crown and is taking it as a 100% factual documentary? Like Judi Dench is talking about people "overseas" taking it as 100% true and I'm just wondering what specific demographic she's talking about and why she felt comfortable implying that it's non-Britons who are the most ignorant.

Honestly, it just feels as if they're mad that The Crown isn't 100% flattering in its portrayal rather than inaccuracy. The example Judi uses with Charles criticizing his mother's negligent parenting skill is interesting because the show itself never outright says that Elizabeth is a bad mother, in fact, it's far more nuanced. There are several times throughout the series where Elizabeth expresses her wish to be more present in her children's lives but is unable because of her role as Queen. That's a long-standing part of her character, that she struggles to be her real, authentic human self under the weight of the crown. That's a major theme in the show. There is an entire episode in season four where she confides to Philip that she's been cold and unloving towards their children and he tells her that she's being silly and that she cares about her family and is trying her best given her position. The show never suggests that she's so cold, bitchy monster, but rather shows the audience that there is more nuance, that she's a human capable of good and bad. Elizabeth being a petty distant mother was not something The Crown made up or invented for drama's sake, it's something that is constantly discussed by royal biographers in real life, and I honestly think the show handled it well.

The Crown doesn't tell its audience how to feel about the royal family, it approaches characters like Charles and Diana similarly, with both their flaws being given equal screen time as their positive attributes. That's something I actually really respect about the show, and I think in a culture where the British Royal Family is glorified people view nuance as a negative thing. On top of all that, we consume half-truths and dramatic lies about the royal family all the time and ones that are far more dehumanizing and exploitative. I find it pretty ironic that Ms. Dench is claiming people overseas are more susceptible to believing lies about the royals and the Queen when the largest royal gossip mills are domestic to the UK's insane right-wing tabloid culture.

I’d have loved to hear one narrated by Jack. If not because he’d have a spot on evaluation of Mac as both a person and an agent, then definitely because I’d die laughing if I ever heard him try to narrate a MacHack.

Okay no but I’d’ve loved if we had a Macgyver episode told from someone else’s pov

I mean you can argue that it’s no one’s specific pov throughout the show because of the switching storylines but

Mac was the one that narrated episode openings also the show is literally his name but hey we’re being deeper than that
