i’m rewatching the jdate movie and i’m gonna be real. regardless of every way this movie failed chase williamson was the best possible choice to play dave

anyway the way that pargin incorporates themes about what it means to be human in so many different ways leaves me foaming at the fucking mouth like

you are human you are monster you are more of a human than the humans will ever be, "why do you stay?" "why do you?", "don't look", dave and joy are people because they choose to be people, the real monsters are always the monsters we make of men, is it the same ax?

all of this sandwiched between the best dick jokes you've ever heard

my biggest hope is that one day amy fucks up big time. she blamed herself for mr eye snatcher or whoever the fuck getting away but i need her to screw the pooch so hard it like, fundamentally changes how dave views her

#hes still putting her on that pedestal #shes eternally smarter and more rational and kinder than him and he looks to her for normalcy #but i want her to look to him when she drops the ball. dealing with that crushing failure #the books touch on her anger issues but they dont really exploit them to the fullest extent #idk. amy going from hating crying in front of people (understandable its evil) to being able to exploit that when theyre negotiating #with another. dark dimension cannibal or whoever #i never want her to stop being kind but i Do want her to stop being so nice #if shes down it forces dave to step up do you feel me

i think this would make a good animated tv show, 20 minute episodes. i love all the gags but a lot of them are visual and jason/dave has to take the time to explain a lot of the shit that would go by in a split second in a visual format thus making the whole thing less tight

THAT BEING SAID I LOVE LOVE LOVE JOY i love her and david i love them bonding I loved her grabbing him by the shoulders and getting him to stop being such a little bitch about not being human. i think its so important for him to have someone like that on his life, as good as amy and john are theyll never be able to relate on that level. daves so uneasy by the concept of her existing it completely escapes him that shes like this because, like him, she hs no other way to be. she eats (probably) she sleeps (presumably) she shits (assumedly) she goes to work and pays rent and has friends and likes shopping. it doesnt matter that she doesn't NEED these things, humans dont NEED toilets or spices or the internet but we have them because we like them.

also shes really funny

i feel like it meandered a Little, that shit with the time skips and learning it was dave all along felt really clunky, kind of like a patch job to fix some kind of hole in the story. it was definitely more terrifying thinking it was the magpie doing that to them

additionally the ending felt just a little Too easy considering how much it was emphasized that john Always Dies, and the last attempt being the ONLY one where thy considered asking joy to help was. eh
