I cannot tell you how much I love Amsterdam and now this apple cake. We waited in a very long but fortunately quick moving line 30 people long and it was worth it. The cake is somewhere between pie and cake with a near cookie like crust. Insanely good. I wish I'd bought two slices, maybe even a whole cake. Turkish green peppers, char-grilled with everything please... There are mounds of them stacked at the Fethiye market. They add the bitter sweet bite you need to cut through the fat of roasted meat and balance the tang of garlic yogurt. Perfection in each mouthful. The puffiest, biggest flat bread I have ever seen! Torn apart and eaten at the most amazing market in the centre of Fethiye. Turkish food really is incredibly artisan even in its simplest form. This Turkish Moussaka was absolutely killer good. Not topped with the usual creamy cheesiness but I assure you it was not so much a lighter version. Punchy with slow cooked tomato, aubergine and lamb with the addition of divine roast green peppers. I only wish I'd ordered it because I couldn't steal enough from across the table for my liking... We walk the dock to dinner - one restaurant and a very simple menu. A one man show, Mustafa asked for 30 minutes to go collect the fish from the fishing boat making its catch just outside the bay. The freshest bream cooked in a wood burning oven, served with chips fried in an oil filled cauldron over a wood fire. Caramelized onions and garlic in yogurt and of course, a tomato and cucumber salad on the side. I'm afraid it was not the stuff of beautiful food photos, but it was the stuff dreams are made of! Fish pie for two 🎏 (ok maybe for four but I'm feeling extra greedy today...) . . . . . Smoked haddock poached in milk and onions, make a white sauce, add dill and parsley, chuck in peas, cover with nutmeged mash, top with cheddar, side of salad - presto, dinner!
