Sex addiction is a real thing, but those groups always take it out of the medical context it is. I treated patients that had that. An addiction is based when your every day functioning is impeded because you need to abuse/use your substance to the point it puts you physical and psychological danger. I assume I wouldn’t be half as pissed off as I am if they at least used the Archive Warnings anyway but no, some of those fucking idiots didn’t even use the Rating function

I know I should have reported every single one of these imbeciles but I was looking to get my rocks off and wasn’t logged in

Still, that moment of utter rage at this ignorant incompetence… ugh

I think that one of the biggest problems that we have on fandoms is consistenly the loss of fandom and fanfiction etiquette. I started my stay on fandoms while I was 13 years old on 2005, and in those times people was more aware of "when in Rome do what Romans does" kind of thing.

I say this because with this whole Wattpad migration (as well with the Twitter/X migration), people instead of take a minute to learn how do we do things in AO3, they go with "screw it, I will make it as I know how to do it". When we used to use forums, there was always a post remarking the etiquette of the site in question, along with the usual etiquette like always tag propperly, put the corresponding warnings, etc. But every site has its own way to do it!!!

AO3 has their guidelines very clear on what does means every icon, how to use the site and everything. And is not that hard!!! Why do we, the people who had to read before the guidelines and see how the site worked by ourselves, take time on our lives (because we are adults now) to teach the Wattpad refugees how to use a site that shows you how to use it by itself?

We learned how to use it seeing others using it, we read the rules and everything, we spoke to people who was regulars, why can't they do the same? Why are they so entitled?

Nope.

People who make these blanket statements are very frequently proven wrong when the creator comes out as a member of that group. And even when they aren't proven wrong, even in cases where the creator isn't from the group in question, actual members of the group who don't fit whatever arbitrary criteria are being expressed will see these statements and feel excluded and erased.

Not everyone in your group is going to share your experiences. No single individual gets to personally decide what does or doesn't count as a "valid" expression of trauma or being part of a particular group, and creators are also not obligated to out themselves in order to "prove" their validity.

If something doesn't resonate with you, all that means is that it doesn't resonate with you. You don't have to like it. But you don't get to decide what it means to someone else.

😴😴😴 (to find later) AITA for putting sleeping pills in my boyfriend's drinks without him knowing?

I know this sounds absolutely awful, but please bear with me.

Basically, me (27 m) and my boyfriend (26 m) have been living together for around five years, meaning we usually also sleep together. Or at least we try, since my BF suffers from terrible insomnia and reoccurring nightmares so bad sometimes he wakes up into a full on anxiety attack. He does go to therapy and has prescribed sleeping pills, but he hates taking them because he's always afraid that when he does fall asleep he's just going to have nightmares, (which also just makes him avoid sleeping in general even not including his insomnia).

Usually I try to help him by staying up with him, watching his favorite show while cozied up on the couch under a bunch of blankets and with a hot coco, or we do something else that he likes and helps him relax. I really don't mind, I love him and I love spending time with him. However, it used to be that he would fall asleep at around 3-4 AM, but as time went on he started staying up longer and longer, until at a certain point I literally had to start leaving for work in the morning while he still hadn't gotten any sleep.

This was an issue for two reasons: 1. Obviously, without me there he felt even less comfortable and had an even harder time falling asleep, sometimes staying up for even 48 hours (or maybe more, I'm not sure) just to wait for me to come back home so I could help him unwind again. 2. He actually started lying to me about sleeping while I wasn't home, so that I would go to sleep normally and let him stay awake because "he wasn't tired" even though I could clearly tell he was.

That's when I started getting seriously concerned and questioning him about how much he actually sleeps, especially since I could see it was affecting him more and more both mentally and physically. He was avoidant about the topic but I pleaded with him to talk to his therapist about it, to try and find anything else to help him. Apparently his therapist just told him to keep using his sleeping pills to help with the insomnia, and if they're not working she'll look into prescribing him stronger ones. Yet despite that he still insists on not taking them and just going to bed normally even though it's clearly not working.

To clarify: as far as I'm aware, he has no negative side-effects from these sleeping pills, he's never complained about feeling any pain or feeling worse after taking them or anything like that. Literally he only doesn't want to take them because he's just that afraid of going to sleep.

That's why whenever we stay up nowadays, I always add a small dose to his cup of coco, which thankfully has a strong enough taste to cover the pills (I've tried a small bit myself and couldn't tell a difference). Since I started doing that, he's been regularly falling asleep before 2AM and even though the nightmares still sometimes wake him up or make him feel a bit tired in the morning, overall he's been doing much better.

Still, I do feel bad about putting stuff in his drinks without his knowledge even if it's for his own good. I really wonder if I should stop, but I'm really scared that if I do, he'll start spiralling again. I want to help him and be there for him but I've already tried talking about it and it never worked. So, AITA?

I checked out that Instagram-account and found flowers very similar to this rose

So my best guess is this rose stamp is by the brand stamptitude and is part of their “heirloom collection”

I think that 2023 is a good time for many of us, and allies in particular, to practice again the dying art of minding our own fucking business when it comes to the identities and lives of other people.

You overhear students in your classroom using a different name and different pronouns for one student than you are used to using? If you live in a state hostile to trans rights, pretend that you don't know anything about this and report nothing.

You suspect that an acquaintance of yours might be gay, but they deny it when asked directly? Leave them the fuck alone.

One of your friends refuses to publicly label their sexuality? Good for them, you aren't entitled to that information anyway.

Your sibling comes out to you as questioning, but isn't comfortable sharing that with your parents yet? Keep your fucking mouth shut.

Don't out people; coming out is a personal choice not a moral obligation. Don't demand personal information about other people's sexuality or sex lives. You aren't entitled to information about anyone's gender identity, assigned gender at birth, or transition.

Bring back privacy, allow people to have control over the information that is shared about them publicly; it might save their job, their housing, their parental rights and their child's safety, or even save lives.

I (16F) usually dress in clothes that hide my body. I'm not ashamed of it, I just feel weird with my jacket on.

One of my friends, who is a trans male (teenager), said I dress like a trans dude because of an outfit I wore today. Baggy cargo pants and a big jacket.

When I got home, I told my mom, and she was saying that was inappropriate for me to say. She also said I dressed like an active shooter because of my clothes.

I'm not trans, nor was I trying in insinuate I am. I was just reiterating what my friend told me in an off-handed manner. I even took it as a compliment.
