I like absolutely love fantasy novels and I'll grab anything at the library at random to read but I'll be honest the fact every fucking fantasy has slaves is getting on my nerves. And the slaves are always loyal to their "good" masters. And there's never anything going on with the slaves they're just window dressing like mentioning what funky food the main character is eating. Now I can't say anything about slaves worldwide cause I've only really read about American slaves but SLAVES DREAM OF FREEDOM!!! Even slaves with comparatively "good" masters dream of freedom. They always dream of freedom. They want to be free. They do not just exist and are cool with it. They might be resigned to it and don't believe their lot in life will ever change but they still want to be free. They're also not freaking loyal to our main character. They do the jobs they're forced to do and then go to their shacks and dream of freedom. There is nothing else. Stop writing slaves into your fantasy novels as just a thing that exists in your world. Stop. It's terrible. Like just shut the fuck up man.
