For the zombies, I honestly envisioned a mix between the Dead Rising video game zombies with more horror aligned zombies (looking at you Train To Busan and Black Summer). The juxtaposition of horror and silliness is just so much fun and quite honestly my favorite trope when it comes to zombie apocalypse media.

Hows it going?

I figured I'd make an update post after the holidays but I guess now is as good a time as any.

First of all, things are going well! Thank you so much for asking! I've decided to take a bit of an impromptu hiatus for reasons which I'll talk about later in this post but I have been rather productive in my absence. Admittedly, I've spent more time working on my actual novel than When The Dead Wake. But I promise that I haven't dropped or lost interest in this IF.

Which brings us to my second point. While I have been doing fine, I've also been extremely busy. These past few months are rather hectic and I've been having to work more often than usual (both my brain and social battery are fried beyond repair). Unfortunately, that meant that I had to put some things on the back burner for a little while so I didn't overwhelm myself. Luckily, with Christmas break coming up soon, I'll have more time to devote in to working on When The Dead Wake. I'll also be able to post more on this blog soon once the break starts,

With these last two character intros, this finally rounds out the full main cast!

No update for today but I'll hopefully have one coming up for y'all soon.

Gwen Nguyen | The Kid

-----------------

While she might seem like a sweet and innocent kid at first glance, Gwen is precocious and snarky to a fault. She wants to be taken seriously and doesn't like being coddled due to her disability or because of her age. Gwen isn't afraid to make her dislike of someone known, making crude gestures or mocking them behind their backs. She'd say that she is mature for her age but that couldn't be further from the truth. Because Gwen doesn't want to be seen as helpless, she is very adamant in learning how to fight and take care of herself, wanting to do her part in protecting the crew. Gwen is very trusting when you first meet her. However, that trust can be easily broken and once lost can never be regained. Even during the apocalypse, Gwen has not given up hope of a brighter future.

Fun Facts:

She absolutely loves bears. Gwen's favorites are sun bears and grizzly bears.

Her full name is Gwendolyn. Call her that and she'll hate you forever.

She likes giving little trinkets of her appreciation to the rest of the crew. Shiny rocks, flowers, bottle caps, anything she thinks that they would like.

Gwen is fluent in ASL and she is learning how to speak HCMC sign language.

She doesn't like dogs.

If she had to choose who her favorite was in the crew, it'd be either Max or Javier. Gwen likes drawing with Max and pushing Javier's buttons is always fun.

She hates the dark.

Gwen still has her polar bear plush that she's had since birth. She keeps it hidden away in her backpack.

Pa and Ma Hazel | The Guardians

Pa might look like a big scary dog but in actuality, he's just a big ol' doofus. He's more friendlier compared to Ma Hazel, greeting anyone (human or animal) he meets with a multitude of puppy dog kisses. He's also much more curious, a trait that causes Pa to wander off rather frequently. Luckily, Ma Hazel is around to keep him in check. She's the complete opposite of Pa, her almost cat-like personality making her a difficult dog to get along with. She's known as the princess of the crew and she likes to be treated as such. While it doesn't take much for Pa to trust someone, Ma Hazel isn't so easily swayed. Once you've gained their trust however, you've gained a friend for life and both Pa and Ma Hazel will fiercely protect the people they love.

Fun Facts:

No one knows their real names. Derek's the one who renamed them as Pa and Ma Hazel and that's what they've been answering to ever since.

Ma Hazel is picky with who she gives attention to. Her favorite humans so far are Derek and Gwen.

Pa loves everyone equally but Gwen seems to be his most favorite.

Ma Hazel hates getting baths. She loves having her fur brushed through.

Pa likes to chew on everything he finds and because of this, will bring back random objects. After the crew received a few grisly presents, he's not allowed to wander by himself anymore.

Ma Hazel is a secret troublemaker. She'll get into the treats hidden away or eat any food left out. Because of how stoic she seems, everyone assumes Pa did it.

They both seem to understand commands in English and Spanish.

What are their thoughts about marriage and kids?

Before the apocalypse, Javier didn't really have any strong opinions on getting married or having kids. If it happened, then it happened however he wasn't actively seeking it out. Javier claimed that he was too busy with helping his family out at the bodega and law school while also taking care of his grandmother. After the apocalypse though, Javier changed his mind. He would love to get married. Having that bit of normalcy in such a messed up world is appealing to him. Javier wouldn't have kids though. He already has too much anxiety over protecting the group and the MC, he can't even think about having kids right now.  

Before the apocalypse, Carmen was already planning out her perfect wedding. She'd spend multiple nights staying up late adding more and more ideas to her Pinterest board. While she wasn't ready to have kids, Carmen was very keen on the idea of having some. Whether or not they were biological or adopted, it didn't matter to her. After the apocalypse, her thoughts on kids and marriage still hadn't changed. However, Carmen understands that the world is much more dangerous than before so she wouldn't push the MC if they weren't up for it.  

Before the apocalypse, Max's thoughts on marriage and kids would be easily summed up in just two words: hell no. The pompousness and grandeur of weddings didn't appeal to Max and while they like kids, the thought of having to take care of a screaming, messy goblin makes their skin crawl. After the apocalypse, her thoughts on kids didn't change however Max is much more open to the thought of some sort of marriage ceremony. Preferably a domestic partnership or even something simple as exchanging rings with the MC.

 

Before the apocalypse, Eun-Woo was vehemently against the idea of marriage and having kids. Similar to Max, the whole ceremony itself seemed like too much of a hassle. Eun-Woo also would consider himself a free spirit so he absolutely despised the thought of tying himself down to someone even if he truly loved them. After the apocalypse, Eun-Woo's feelings about marriage and kids didn't change at all. Even if he wanted kids (which he doesn't) he'd feel guilty bringing them into such a broken, cruel world.

Before the apocalypse, Derek -similarly to Javier- didn't have any strong opinions on marriage. Because of his football career, Derek felt like he wouldn't have been able to devote his full attention to his partner. However, they were adamant on wanting kids. After the apocalypse, Derek's thoughts didn't change much. They don't hate the idea of marriage but if the MC wasn't comfortable with it then they wouldn't push the matter. He still felt the same with wanting kids. Derek wouldn't want any children of his own however.

Before the apocalypse, Eli wouldn't allow themself to think about stuff like marriage or kids. If you asked Eli, they would just come up with a multitude of excuses saying that they were too busy or that they weren't ready, etc. After the apocalypse, Eli began voicing their opinions on marriage and kids. They very much want to get married. They like the symbolism and the thought of openly expressing their love and devotion in such a big way, even during such a horrific time. Eli doesn't really care if they have kids or not so the MC wanted to at least adopt a child, Eli wouldn't put up much of a fuss.

Who are the big spoons and who are the little spoons out of the ROs?

Javier: He's a big spoon. Because he's so awkward with his words, Javier finds it easy to talk to the MC if they're not facing each other. He also likes knowing that the MC is close to him. It gives Javier comfort being able to hold the MC, feeling their warmth and hearing their heartbeat.

Carmen: Big spoon, little spoon, top spoon, bottom spoon, Carmen truly doesn't care. Since she's already a fairly affectionate person, Carmen has no problems with whatever position she and the MC are in while they're cuddling. She just wants to hold and be held.

Max: She doesn't usually show her affection physically. However, if the MC really wanted to cuddle then Max wouldn't mind putting up with it. Since they don't like the vulnerable feeling that being the little spoon gives them, they'd be the big spoon. Being able to whisper in the MC's ear and tease them is a huge plus, too.

Eun-Woo: He might not explicitly make it known (and he'd vehemently deny it to anyone that asks) but it's really not that hard to figure out that Eun-Woo absolutely loves being the little spoon. Eun-Woo usually gets pouty and starts complaining about being cold until the MC finally relentless and holds him.

Derek: Derek doesn't really mind which position they're in. They're a massive hugger so they're happy with anything as long as they're physically connected with the MC as much as possible. However, if Derek had to choose, he'd much rather be in the honeymoon position since he likes being able to see the MC's face.

Eli: They prefer being the big spoon. Their reasoning is similar to Javier's in that Eli likes feeling the MC's warmth in their arms. Knowing that the MC is alive and being able to hold and protect them even during the quiet moments gives Eli peace of mind.

I'm perfectly okay with NSFW asks! But, there are a few rules about sending that sort of stuff.

First and foremost, don't be creepy. Y'all might have certain kinks or fantasies that I don't vibe with and that's fine.
