Cait. 30s. She/Her. Ace. Latina. D&D, FF14, Bioware shit, various flavor of the month interests. I am further to the left than I have words for socially and fiscally and I kvetch a lot. Also, cute animals.
I've been dogsitting for a family friend, and it's been going pretty well. Love the little guy, he's very sweet, but he doesn't have cats at home, so he does sometimes try to chase my cats.
My one cat has a set up in the bathroom, so she'll be fine, and another just doesn't run when the dogs lunge at her, so she's fine, but my sweet boy Eubie is terrified. So, I've given him a little set up in my room which I've made into a "no dogs allowed" zone for the next couple of weeks. Got food and water for him, lots of blankets and cozy things that can double as things for him to scratch on. There's a litter box in the bathroom right across the hall, so that's minimal interaction with the dog for him.
Unfortunately I did not account for stress barfing.
Woke up at 3am with Eubie all sweetly cuddled up along my side hacking and wheezing. Barely got out of bed fast enough to dodge getting barfed on myself.
And now I've got to wash ALL of my bedding at 3 in the morning :T
I am just. So weirdly tickled by this Watcher situation. Like yes, initially I was very disappointed and upset but honestly now I just think it's funny. I can't remember the last time a creator or group of creators misread the room this hard. Like they really thought they were cooking with this one. They had a countdown to this. They announced their paywalled streaming service with their whole chests and expected rapturous applause. Instead, there has been a non-stop chorus of boos and thrown tomatoes for days now. They would have probably gotten a better reaction if they had posted a video where they sprayed a dog in the eyes with soapy water.
It's all so pleasantly... low-stakes. The consequences are nonexistent. It's not like the Ned Fulmer situation, where a friend group is destroyed, real life relationships are ended, and young children are potentially subjected to the trauma of divorce. Nah, all that's happening here is three idiots will be making a lot less money than they wanted. Maybe they'll learn something, maybe they won't. Either way, they brought it entirely upon themselves, and that makes it okay to laugh at in my books. So I will!
“Scientists at UC Riverside have demonstrated a new, RNA-based vaccine strategy that is effective against any strain of a virus and can be used safely even by babies or the immunocompromised. Their flu vaccine will also likely be delivered in the form of a spray, as many people have an aversion to needles. “Respiratory infections move through the nose, so a spray might be an easier delivery system,” Hai said. Additionally, the researchers say there is little chance of a virus mutating to avoid this vaccination strategy. “Viruses may mutate in regions not targeted by traditional vaccines. However, we are targeting their whole genome with thousands of small RNAs. They cannot escape this,” Hai said. Ultimately, the researchers believe they can ‘cut and paste’ this strategy to make a one-and-done vaccine for any number of viruses. “There are several well-known human pathogens; dengue, SARS, COVID. They all have similar viral functions,” Ding said. “This should be applicable to these viruses in an easy transfer of knowledge.””

Vaccine breakthrough means no more chasing strains
This is HUGE. This will fundamentally change how we get inoculated.
