“ so you admit you killed ___?”
“ fine. is that what you want? i confess.”
“ i had him/her killed. but guess what: you should thank me! because we both know what would’ve happened if i hadn’t!”
“ i could’ve lived a life with the wo/man i loved! i could’ve been happy.”

“ well, we’ll never know, will we.”
“ i did it for love… i did it because i love you. you should know that.”
“ shut up!”
“ love is about sacrifice. it’s about putting someone else’s needs and happiness before your own.”

“ oh, i remember those days. so many exciting new emotions flowing through ya, wanting to kill everyone you saw. aw…”
“ you know, i will never understand rich people’s tastes.”
“ it’s worthless. i keep it for sentimental reasons.”
“ nice try.”
“ oh, it’s got some heft to it. expensive, i’m guessing. would be such a shame if i– huh. tougher than i figured.”
“ aah! bloody hell!”
“ i asked you what you want.”
“ sorry. the old noodle’s still a little al dente post-thaw.”
“ the reason i’m here is i’m gonna kill you.”

“ i remember that night. you were quite the showman.”
“ thank you, always nice to be appreciated.”
“ and you’re just going to kill me here? that’s kind of disappointing.”
“ what do you mean?”
“ after all the buildup, killing me here it just doesn’t show a lot of…”
“ go on boy/girl, spit it out, i can take it.”
“ killing me should mean something, and you’re telling me no one’s going to see it?”
“ you’re saying i need an audience? oh… look. i know you’re just trying to buy time so you can escape. but your point is still valid.”

“ i don’t work for ___.”
“ stop pretending that you’re anything but muscle! yes, you used to be someone, but those days are past!”
“ remember when i put a knife in your mom’s back? that was awful, wasn’t it? you never did anything about it.”
“ nahh… you had your chance to kill me.”
“ stop turning us against each other.”
“ oh, if you think i’m going anywhere with you…”
“ you realize you have to carry him now?”
“ is there a plan for all this madness?”
“ these people don’t want a plan, they want an excuse.”
“ all they want is someone to tell them: do it. kill them, it doesn’t matter. it doesn’t.”
“ ooh, i love this game!”
“ you won’t get away with it.”
“ already did. now shush. i need to concentrate.”
“ so what’s the point?”
“ the point is that all these people out here, looting, robbing, killing, they’re the people who wash your car, who pour your coffee, who take out your trash.”
“ and what happened the moment the lights went out? they showed their true faces.”
“ that’s not true. there are good people in ___.”
“ face it kid, there are no heroes.”
“ hey, hey! foul! s/he pushed me, did you see that?”
“ you want to kill someone? let’s get on with it, come on!”
“ you’re so boring, ___.”

“ what’s next? death by a thousand cuts, very poetic. i like it.”
“ this is very important: whatever you do, please, definitely try this at home. preferably on a family member.”
“ you ready, partner?”
“ you’re just in time for the big finish!”
“ i suppose i underestimated you.”
“ it’s the curse of great beauty.”
“ honestly, wasn’t too hard.”
“ and brother, did you ever take the bait.”
“ well, i hope you’re happy at the head of the table.”
“ you know, i think of it as a limited partnership that needs dissolving.”
“ oh, ___. where are you, boy/girl? come on out, boy/girl. i won’t hurt ya.”
“ you ruined my show. hiding’s just gonna make things worse.”
“ i didn’t come here to hide. i wanted you to follow me.”
“ you’re going to pay for what you’ve done.”
“ why don’t you call him?”
“ it is our time to rule.”
“ you understand if i feel compelled to refuse?”
“ i’d do it in three.”
“ give up ___, save your own ass. live to love another day. hey?”
“ what’s going on? you have a weird look on your face. like, weirder than normal.”
“ you’re right. i should want him/her dead.”
“ should? you loved him/her, and s/he betrayed you.”
“ so you’d rather die than give up the wo/man that tried to kill you?”
“ i would! isn’t that crazy?”
“ guess you’re not as smart as you thought you were.”
“ you’re in this together. but why?”
“ because i didn’t want to just take what you had. i wanted to take what you believed. i wanted you to die, knowing that you were incapable of loving another person.”
“ but i can! i just proved that, right? does that mean i passed?”
“ i… don’t know what it means.”
“ i have to tell ya, this is way more fun than i was expecting.”
“ we make a good team, you and me.”
“ is that what this is about? yeesh…”
“ this is about doing what’s right.”
“ you wanna be a hero? tell you what, buddy… i’ll give you a fighting chance.”
“ let’s do this mano y mano, my little conquistador.”
“ what kind of hero tackles someone from behind?!”
“ let it out! that’s it, that’s it. let it out! do it.”
“ i thought you were dead.”
“ can’t get rid off me that easily, can you, mate?”
“ behind you!”
“ you wish i would’ve shot him?”
“ at least you get to say you punched a man’s face off, that’s something, right?”
“ come on, let me buy you breakfast.”
“ well, gotta say. the clown make-up was way more terrifying than the damage underneath.”
“ did i ever tell you that i don’t like clowns?”
“ in a couple of days, you’ll be back to your old self, i guarantee it.”
“ you ready to tell me what happened?”
“ i almost killed him/her.”
“ ah, but you didn’t, now, did you? you controlled your anger.”
“ it wasn’t just anger.”
“ the idea of killing him felt like… it felt like justice.”
“ there’s a very fine line between justice and vengeance.”
“ i knew where the line was tonight. i didn’t cross it.”
“ if you keep going, you’re gonna need rules. rules you cannot and you will not break. never mind what the reason, never mind what the circumstance.”
“ i will not kill.”
“ tonight was close.”
“ soon we will act, and you will be called upon. are you prepared?”
“ never fear. you are only part of the plan.”
“ are you sure about this?”
“ hello, ___. it’s been a long time.”
“ i love you.”
“ you need to listen to me when i tell you by doing this, it will change you.”
“ i’ve killed before.”
“ you need me, just as i need you! you cannot have one without another.”
“ you can’t talk your way out of this!”
“ i’ve wanted you to suffer as i suffered!”
“ when i met you, you were a nervous, jittery loser. you were nothing! i created you, and i am the only one in the world who truly sees you as you are. who you can still become.”
“ you can’t do this…! are you listening to me?”
“ i’m listening.”
“ say something.”

HOW THE CURSE AFFECTED JACK BEFORE HIS DEATH ;
Imagine a glass of water. Nothing else, just water, pure and simple. Now imagine drops of ink spilling into it, one at a time. slowly, but steadily, the ink creates what looks like clouds in the water, until eventually, the entire glass looks like it’s filled with a black liquid. The water is still there, but you can no longer see it through the color of the ink. It’s been contaminated, no longer pure.
That water is Jack, and the ink is the curse.
But how exactly did the curse affect him? Well, it started small and simple. Whispering voices that only he seemed to be able to hear. Though it wasn’t just inside his mind, it was like someone stood next to him and whispered into his ears. Jack thought he could ignore it; and for a while, he did. Sure, it was annoying and frustrating, and made him worried he was losing his mind, but it wasn’t anything too bad. But the whispering grew louder, the messages getting darker, more compelling... While this was happening, he would start losing his temper more easily, partly because the whispers were hard to ignore, partly because he barely got any sleep thanks to it.
Much like the ink starting to make clouds in the water, did the curse start to contaminate him at this point. But the water was still visible through the clouds, just like Jack still was mostly still himself, except his behavior began to change as he didn’t know what was happening to him. Some days, he would be really concerned or afraid, other times, he would almost accept he was “going crazy” and just smile and laugh at it, etc, etc.
Then the “hallucinations” began, granted, it wasn’t really hallucinations, it was just that no one else were able to see it. But it was still very much real; it was DEATH coming for him. Every now and again he would see things... shadows moving in the corner of his eye, his own reflection in the mirror just a little bit off when it stared back at him, following his movements with the slightest bit delay rather than mirroring it, and other, unsettling things. Slowly, but steadily, he would seem to be losing his grip on reality.
To use the water and ink metaphor again, this would be where the entire glass would look like it was filled with a black liquid, and to anyone looking at it, they wouldn’t be able to see what was going on inside the glass. Just like people wouldn’t be able to see what Jack was seeing thanks to the curse ( the ink.)
And this is pretty much how it affected him while he still lived. And considering he lived in a time where mental health issues were not a very broad term, people would think he was insane / mad, something which even Jack started to think he was eventually.
After his death, the curse became a part of him - part of his personality, so as a spirit, he is no longer the same person he was when he was alive. The ink has been stirred with the water, becoming one, impure liquid.

「♚」 @strxnzo ♥’d this !
Tumblr media
he had been lingering there at the very back of the room, watching the brunette perform her music on the small stage. granted, it wasn’t the music that captured his attention, nor was it the people sitting around the tables, gulping down various alcoholic beverages. no, it was the ominous fog as dark as night itself that surrounded her. something which only he could see; perks of being dead... the easiest thing would’ve been to just kill her and get it over with; a mercy compared to letting the curse that had marked her catch up to her. but then again, mercy was one of many things that had died with him, replaced with a twisted desire to watch other people suffer and die, just as he had. it was all a game to him now; a sadistic, prolonged little game that kept him entertained, even in death.
eventually, the music stopped, and a polite cheering sounded from some of the people scattered around, as she packed away her guitar and walked off stage.
TIME TO PLAY... PLAY A GAME OF ACTING.
walking over to her, jack stopped next to her, making sure not to cross her personal space, yet standing close enough to get her attention when he finally spoke up ———
Tumblr media
❛ - hey...! that was a really nice performance you did up there. the- the music, i mean.❜ a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips, one hand coming up to rub the back of his neck for a short moment, in a seemingly slightly nervous manner.

lowkey wishlist: ok but gimme a thread where someone was friends with jack and had to watch as he started acting all weird bc of the music box he picked up and them trying to help him get better, but to no avail and eventually having to make the last resort of putting him in a psychiatric ward, and them coming to visit him to see how he’s doing but he keeps getting worse and the meds he’s given aren’t exactly helping either -- though then eventually he seems fine and is released, but one week later is found dead. and then ofc the coming back as a spirit and just ... imagine the long and ongoing feels trip though.
