Well, I've nothing more to add to the WoD art theft scenario. I'll update if and when the situation with the DMCAs have come to fruition, but I think I've done all I need to.
The WoD team added a section in their server about opting in to their spotlights, I got to stand my ground and Outstar can whine and build as many strawmen and stomp the boots all day long. Don't change a thing to me.
Artists: do not be afraid to stand up. This world, the internet too, it wants you to let it take from you. Don't. One thing I've realised from all this is that we need to be our own advocates, and we need to look out for each other.
If anyone's had any personal trouble with how PDX had treated them, you know you're not alone. Whatever happens, you can stand up even in a little way.
Thanks for supporting me and sharing stories and letting me know just how far this all went! It's been a real eye opener, that's for sure. Youse are all wee gems.
And don't forget: fuck Paradox!

On Golconda and Paths
Here's the thing about Golconda.
In the Dark Ages, it was understood that there was a Beast, and that many Roads led away from the Beast, and that at the end of every Road there was a state of being in which one was a paragon of one's virtues, as far from the Beast as any Cainite could ever be, and that state was called Golconda. A Paragon of the Road of Sin would look like a shame, a caution and a horror to a follower of the Road of Heaven or Kings, but their Beast would be mastered nonetheless.
Much that was once known was lost, in the War of Princes and the Inquisition and the Revolt and the rise of the Sabbat.
A Path is not a Road, built and tended with the authority of mind over soul. A Path is simply a route trodden by many, through a wilderness poorly understood by all.
The Sabbat is permanently struggling, and its Enlightenment begins with a breaking of the self and a submission to the Beast. Its Paths are framed by an eternal war that defines everything the sect thinks and does, against everything it can reach, against enemies vast and abstract. It is not interested in Golconda any more than it is capable of winning.
The Camarilla? They have maintained but one Road – Humanity – to the detriment of all the others. Theirs is the struggle between Beast and Man, and when a Kindred wishes to be neither, they fold their arms and say "nevertheless: choose, or be damned." The Camarilla does not believe in many things that happen to be true; it believes in you believing what you're told, and if you don't, well, you must be lost to the Beast already, mustn't you?
In the modern nights, Golconda is an accident. The Roads, well kept and maintained, are lost, and all that remains is to blunder along the Path and hope.
This position is a synthesis arrived at from reading the Dark Ages, Victorian Age and modern nights corebooks I started out with, running games in all three, and seeing a change in how Vampire morality works on either side of some definitive lore events.
During the War of Princes, i.e. before the formation of the Camarilla, you have five major Roads and at least as many minor ones. None of them are presented as necessarily more important, more widely followed, or more "true" than the others. And, crucially, in the Revised era - that's Dark Ages Vampire, not Vampire: the Dark Ages - all of those Roads have an Aura attached. At a high Road rating, that is to say really living up to their personal ideals, a character radiates a palpable sense of something - authority, temptation, compassion - suggesting that they are approaching a different order of being.
After the formation of the Camarilla, on the other hand, you have Humanity presented as the default state of being for vampires. Their central moral struggle is to preserve their Humanity from the ravages of the Beast - there are very clear consequences for letting your Humanity drop, but the Aura corresponding to the Dark Ages' Via Humanitas is no longer present. Something has changed. Something about the way vampires work is not as it used to be.
Dark Ages was always a backformation - a prequel created after the core operations and tenets of Vampire were established. And those core operations and tenets have always included a sense of Humanity as "The Downward Spiral," (which ain't just the team's favourite Nine Inch Nails record) of vampires as risking "degeneration" should they engage in behaviours prohibited by a "Hierarchy of Sins." The journey toward the Beast has always been more explicitly mapped out than any journey away from it, which is almost an afterthought in terms of rules. Spend XP to restore Humanity. You may reach Golconda, I guess.
This is fine, it's a solid bit of Gothic theming, core to the game, love it. Except... it doesn't gel with the Paths of Enlightenment, many of which are transhumanist in nature, and which - again, in Revised, this is where I came in - are built from a start of actively running down your Humanity and then adopting your Path and then needing to build your Path rating back up again, i.e. climbing a moral ladder away from the Beast. This doesn't really work when the Paths' morality is written, like Humanity, as a series of failure points - Sins by which you degenerate and risk the Beast. The Paths, as written, are a kind of square peg/round hole situation where you have to turn prohibitions into opportunities to progress. And there isn't as clear a mechanical reward or incentive for maintaining a high Path rating as there is for a high Road rating. No Auras here either.
So, what I arrived at, once I'd run my first successful Dark Ages Vampire game and had this distinction really brought to my attention, was a sense that vampire morality had changed between one side of the transformative events in the early modern period. And that's when I started thinking about what it meant that your characters in Dark Ages and Victorian Age occupied the same band of generations, and thought about how the Camarilla can get away with claiming there are no such things as Antediluvians when some of its founding figures have a personal memory of Antediluvians being actively involved in the War of Princes.
That's when I started taking the Inquisition seriously, as an effectively genocidal event that wiped out almost all playable vampire characters. Higher than sixth generation? Yeah, you probably didn't make it through the War and the Revolt and the Inquisition, and repopulation took a while, Tradition of Progeny and all that. The surviving elders are the ones who deliberately fabricated new social orders for vampirism - the aggressive, militant transhumanism of the Sabbat and the centralised "we hide amongst humans and Humanity is the best way to do that" principles of the Camarilla.
And that's how I arrive at my model of vampire morality.

NEW on Storyteller's Vault: Hearthbound
Tumblr media
I've published my first ever book! This is an early release of Dead Mountain content, is meant to help fund additional art for Dead Mountain, and it's Pay-What-You-Want!
Designed to bring some much-needed family ties, this Supplement is meant to give players and storytellers a framework for telling stories that confront the ugly sides of the Garou Nation.
Homecoming
Hearthbound gives you a new inclusive faction and multiple levels of intrigue to add to your Werewolf: the Apocalypse tabletop!  Long kept beneath the heels of the Garou Nation, Crinos-Born and Kinfolk have found solidarity in supporting each other, and have turned out en force to demand disruptive change from their Tribes.
Inside Hearthbound is a peek into the birth of a new kind of Tribe that venerates the ideals of Shantar, a patron of inventiveness and creativity, and keeper of The Loom. They are taking a critical look at the heart of the Garou Nation itself. Long sold on the lie that Kinfolk cannot raise Crinos-Born children, an awakening is happening within the Nation, where the families that raised these Garou, realize what they are doing to their Crinos-Born. This sparked a movement to help Crinos-Born looking to escape their Tribes come to be raised in Kinfolk homes.
These Hearthbound, beholden to the people they love, act as judges of those Garou that abuse the Litany to systemically oppress each other. They are ambassadors to the spirits on behalf of their kin, Nannas to the Crinos-Born they help free, and Sorcerers capable of blending into societies and rewriting the Pattern Web itself.
There is a deep hurt within the Garou Nation.
The Hearthbound have risen up to protect those oppressed voices that have existed at the edges of the nation for millenia.
While this book is primarily written as a supplement for Werewolf: the Apocalypse 20th Anniversary Edition, all concepts and features of this emerging tribe can find its place in any edition of this game, new or old. There are also translation rules for utilizing these gifts in 5th Edition (if so inclined).
Hearthbound: Tribe Supplement Features:
The background and rules for creating a Hearthbound up to Third Rank!
No original art!
New Gifts!
Expanded Tribe histories and faction dispositions!
Guidance on confronting the Litany and Renown!
Story seeds on how to incorporate Hearthbound into your chronicle!

Nina Mirabel, like most Kindred, is a pitiful thing of tragedy and regret. She didn't live much before her embrace, and every moment afterwards she has been wrangling two beasts, the one that thirsts and the one that yearns. Nina was utterly transfixed by her captor/torturer/sire. Despite the weeks of being left starving, to frenzy in a disgusting room, the manipulation, the abuse, she remains in love with a monster that barely thinks of her. After she ran away only to come crawling back, the sadistic Signe weaponized Nina's obsession, turning her into a sycophant that she can't interact with her master.Nina is helpless She lives her unlife doing "Nos shit"because it might make Signe proud, in fact making Signe think of her at all, and that's her only real goal. She craves blood and affection, and one is far easier to get. She plays into the monstrous info broker hacker stereotype of a Nosferatu because it's what she thinks she has to be. She can't conceive of a world where she would be unlike her sire. She deals with the Cam because that's what Signe did, what Nossies do. The horror of Nina's world is not just one of blood and treachery, but also of misplaced love and maniacal, blinding obsession to someone who only wants her hurt and embarrassed.

Another night, another catastrophe narrowly avoided. I had caught wind of a collection of rare Kindred texts being held somewhere in the city. I teamed up with MM, a Malkavian who specializes in Kindred on Kindred combat.
After some snooping about, we heard there's an abandoned church near Greenwood that some licks have made their haven, and word on the street is they either have the texts, or know who does. Unfortunately, they had a ghoul guard that my companion recklessly rushed at, exposing our position and taking fire. She was now pinned behind a dumpster, trading silenced shots with this poor guy. I say that because he wasn't a match for both of us, and we ended up killing him. Again, not something I love doing, but with these texts maybe Signe will respect me again, maybe I can get one tiny bit of acknowledgement. Anyways, we made our way inside, MM being obvious and ready to be a distraction, myself unseen. The main area of the church with the pews and everything was empty, but we were poking around and found a human relaxing in a room. After some intimidation, they confirmed that this was the haven of a coterie and that they have an extensive library. I let MM walk into their library and answer the inevitable "who the fuck are you and what the hell are you doing here". Luckily for us she is rather charismatic, and convinced them not to kill us. After this I revealed myself and explained a bit about who I am and what I do, and it seems our interests are very similar. A group of Autarkis who have no love for any sect. Those who have received my previous transmissions will know I am playing the Cammy game at the moment, operating under their rules, but I really don't care about them. The Anarchs are fine, but I don't want to join them and be called to help for every little fight and skirmish.
Anyways, we all talked for a bit and after I spilled some information on the local Court and a bit on the Anarchs, they decided I was at least worth a shot. I'm staying with them for the moment so to have a look at their library, which includes a rather old copy of the Book of Nod, Transcribed fragments of the Encyclopedia Vampirica, along with summaries and histories of the sects. How I do love that sweet Kindred lore.
Oh, and I owe them a ghoul.

Meet The (Updated) Writing Team
Hello Kinfolks! These last two months have been quiet for y'all in terms of updates, but BUSY in terms of the work being done by the sept of contributors to this project!
At the start of October I put out the call for help, saying that this project cannot succeed without the help and support of the Werewolf fandom. I'm happy to report that you as a fandom have responded phenomenally, and production on this series is now underway! These last few months have been dedicated to recruiting team members, and researching our book framework. We've about filled in the main core of the team, and have already gotten started writing Book 1: Cliath!
October through November has been dedicated entirely to research, both putting together a collection of citations we'll be using in this first book, and passing out initial writing assignments. This list is sure to grow in time, but for now we have plenty of work to do!
With that all said, I'd like to introduce you to the team that are showcasing the Gaians.
Amy Waller (she/her)
Bluesky
Ms. Waller is a freelance writer and massage therapist based in not-quite Northern Virginia, and is a contributor to D.W.A.R.V.S. . Werewolf the Apocalypse was her first RPG, and she loves the themes of shapechanging as self-actualization and of trying to balance instinct and wisdom.
Amy has joined the team to depict the journals of Cryptobiologist Esme "Leaping Ghost".
Bek Andrew Evans (He/They)
Linktree
Mx. Evans is a freelance writer and illustrator from Jackson, Mississippi. He explores themes of mental illness, disability, abuse, poverty, queer themes and the intersection of these statuses. He uses body and psychological horror, meticulous attention to medical details, and deep character dives as some of his favorite methods to achieve those goals.
Bek has been indispensible in book research, and will be taking his experience with M20 Sorcerer and writing for the Hearthbound, and fictitious news article citations.
Evie Emerson Smith (She/It)
Tumblr
Evie is a programmer and designer of video games living with her pack in Pittsburgh, PA. She uses primarily anthropomorphic characters to tell stories about identity, queerness, and the power of community.
She has joined the team as a technical writer, and contributor to the opening comic: Cracking The Bone
Excelgarou (She/Her)
Carrd
She's been described as a Werewolf: The Apocalypse academic, and wears this title proudly. She labors at all hours on resources for Werewolf fans - particularly as regards aggregating otherwise obscure information - such as the Build-a-Veteran tool or (especially) the Werewolf Index Project.
Excelgarou is our lead researcher, ensuring our book citations and narrative voices remain consistent through all editions. She has also been conscripted to write the introductory passage on the World of Darkness, and to redraft the Children of Gaia.
James E. Deeley (He/Him)
Linktree
Jim has been playing, running, and writing for tabletop roleplaying games since he was first introduced to them over twenty years ago. Jim has presented on the subject of writing for games since 2010, and has been contracted to write mechanics and to do character design by the likes of High Level Games, Lostlorn Games, and Renegade Game Studios, but is equally skilled at writing lore and narrative, skills honed over two decades of running roleplaying games and medieval studies, lending a deep historical context to his writings.
Jim will write the Western Concordat, showcasing the Silver Fangs, Fianna, Get of Fenris, and Glass Walkers.
J.F. Sambrano (They/He)
Patreon
J. F. Sambrano is an author of horror and (urban/dark/depressing?) fantasy and an advocate for indigenous rights. He lives in Washington (the state) and is originally from Los Angeles (the city); the differences are staggering but the ocean and the I-5 are the same. He is Chiricahua Apache (Ndeh) and Cora Indian (Náayarite). He may or may not be a believer/practitioner of real world magic. If he were, he would not be interested in your hippy-dippy, crystal swinging, dream-catcher slinging garbage. But magic is real, let’s not fuck around.
Beloved Indigenous World of Darkness author J.F. Sambrano is joining our team to depict the Bastet in the Dawn Tribes! A friend and frequent topic of discussion on this blog, we are honored to have him on the team to bring the Werewolf: the Apocalypse he's long-felt the world deserves to life!
LeeKat (She/Her)
Linktree
Lee is a freelance artist, writer, and English teacher based in Brazil. The bulk of her content is furry, homoerotic, and TTRPG-centric works. Her writing focuses on exploring the depths of emotion with tales of self-discovery, queerness, and finding hope in a desolate world.
A huge lover of Werewolf, themes of generational trauma and rediscovering oneself in a world of turmoil resonated deeply, as well as themes of spirituality and ancestry. Writing for this project, she hopes to bring others the same catharsis she felt through exploring the books and their many themes.
Mórag (it/its)
Tumblr
Mòrag is a writer and botanist from Te Wai Pounamu. It writes both botanical articles and horror stories, the former to raise awareness of ecological issues and the latter to explore what it means to be human, represent trans and autistic experiences, and addiction. It's horror writing is best recognized for its use of visceral first-person perspectives, body horror, and the grotesque. It is influenced heavily by works such as the Hellraiser films and the philosophies of Georges Bataille.
It has joined our team to write the story portions of the Song of Trillium, showcasing the legend of Tawatuy.

finished reading W5 and pretty disappointed. I thought the changes made were a good step forward but damn was I wrong.
Werewolf is the epitome of a problematic fave. It has more racism baked in than pretty much any game I've heard of. Such weird ideas of ancestry, culture, birth, etc. The orientalist view of the indigenous people of the Americas is absurd. The game uses "influences" from these cultures when in reality painting all indigenous peoples from all over the world the same. Fans will know some of the most egregious, such as the name of Crinos-born Garou, the name of the tribe now called Galestalkers three fate of the Bunyip and third indigenous tribe.
At the same time, the core theme of the game really resonates with me. Fighting the Apocalypse because no one else will, finding yourself one day in a world that is wildly different from the one you've lived so far. Living in a dying world, trying to do whatever you can to fight something that effects everyone
So, to avoid ranting any more, can Werewolf be saved? I really don't know. Removing the cultural ties to the tribes in W5 seemed like a good idea, but resulting in a monotonous collection of eurocentric werewolves. A lot of people will say just play Forsaken, and I do like Forsaken, but it's not WTA. I have great faith in the Werewolf the Essentials project happening here on tumblr and the WOD community as a whole to make and run a better version of Werewolf, but it's a lot of effort.
tldr I like WTA but trying to start a new chronicle is difficult because I need to homebrew stuff and do research, the game is horrendous in many ways yet I'm still drawn towards it. What needs to be done to make WTA a game removed from white supremacy? is it even possible? I don't know

Who else got a Malkavian Prince? It's good fun and makes what I do easier. My prince, She's no fishmalk, mind you, but she is more intriguing than any blue blood or diva I've ever met.
My city is like many Cammy locales, an enigmatic Prince supposedly ruling over the area while the Primogen keep the city under control.
It's not that our Prince is a fool, far from it, she just has very little interest in the traditions or other Princely business. How she keeps her station is beyond me, but when our last Prince met his demise about a decade or so ago, she was appointed to the role. Prince Viktorija wants to give of the vibe that she's a new kind of Prince for a new kind of Camarilla but I don't think anyone buys it. She's planning something, has something in the works I know it. But I haven't been able to find a drop of information. Maybe it's time for some sycophantic acting. I keep an eye on most Elysia, but rarely attend, and even more rarely make myself known.

|VPN Confirmed. Welcome to SchreckNet|
Damned Gangrel. As I awaken and tend to my things, I see a message from Aurelia, the local Baron. She has invited me to some bar to meet with her and Koffi. I reluctantly go after ingesting some rando blood.
The address sent was some dingy dive in Speedway. It was empty save for the Anarchs, a barkeep, and 4 or 5 depressed drunks. They were in a corner booth, and when I joined them, the first thing Aurelia said is "Hunt?" as I'm asking what she means she interrupts "A Hunt. Will you join us on a good old fashion Gangrel hunt? We like to go after local scumbags and whatnot and make them pay." I agreed, and we chatted for a bit, Harish, their Emissary , deciding to join us before we left .
I haven't spent much time among the Outcasts, so I was under the impression this was a simple feed-kill with a twist. Not so.
The Anarchs drove me out to the woods, where the Gangrel shape changed and ran around amongst the beasts. Aurelia caught a deer with her claws, mutilating the poor thing. She brought it back and the Koffi began to drink from the wounds like, well, an animal. Harish bit the creatures throat, while I stand by curiously watching. When they offered me a sip I dipped my finger in its blood and tasted it. Better than rats.
After this little ritual, we went to stake out the target. Apparently, the guy was a prison guard with a tendency for violence. We pulled up a street away and made our way to the house, a simple two story with fading white paint. Two cars were parked outside, but the lights were off. It was decided that I would be sent in to survey the place. Unseen Passage plus an unlocked door makes for an easy time. A middle aged woman and a teenage boy were in the kitchen, talking around the dinner table. Great, a complication. The target was upstairs, endlessly scrolling on his phone. I make my way back and inform the Anarchs of the situation, and despite the unsuspected humans, they decided to move in. I made my way back inside and up the stairs, waiting until I hear the knock-knock on the door, when Harish would attempt to use Dominate to deal with the others, and the Gangrel would come upstairs and help get the guy out. I held the guy back with a knife to his throat but my threats were met with a simple "what the fuck, fuck you". Luckily, I was able to keep a hold on the guy while Koffi came to my assistance, tying the dude up. Aurelia laughed and told us to bring him down. We obliged, and found the two kine asleep on the couch, with Harish lounging in a reclining chair. He got up, opened the back door, and then there we were, in this small, fenced area. Koffi and Aurelia began to drink deep of the subdued target, with Harish waiting patiently to join in. We heard people moving and talking in the house, it looks like whatever Harish did wasn't too successful. Aurelia says "not enough time, stab him and lets get out of here". Koffi whined, "aww but the chase is my favourite part!". Harish pulled out a small knife and plunged it into the mans heart. It was now that I fully understood what was going on. Apparently, the Gangrel like to choose a target, subdue them, and release them in the woods so they can chase them down and kill them. she ride back was full of arguing over how things could have gone better. The second the car stopped, I slipped out and vanished into the city.
I thought the Gangrel were just animalistic, but tonight revealed a gruesomely primal part of their nature. We Kindred are hunters yes, and many of us even revel in the hunt, but the way their eyes looked as they jumped on him, the noises they made as they fed on him in a way like wolves feed on a carcass. I'm starting to think there is more animal traits of the Gangrel besides their appearance and disciplines.

Some intrigue tonight, licks. I caught wind of an Anarch-Camarilla meeting. Naturally, I was intrigued. After putting a few drops in the spawning pool, I headed out for a snack before the meeting. The chosen place to meet was a local crematorium after hours. I was able to use my well trained Unseen Presence to sneak in unnoticed, I did bring along some rats in case I needed a distraction, they were instructed to wait outside the main office, were the meeting was being held. Inside the tastefully decorated room stood 4 kindred, 2 of which I was previously familiar with. Koffi, the Gangrel Anarch who got into that fight with the Selkie, and Camelia, the Toreador suburbanite with her eye on the role of Keeper of Elysium. An androgynous Kindred dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt stood next to the black-clad Koffi, and a woman in elaborate dress was with Camelia, always wearing something simple and fancy. Anyways, they were discussing the influx of Necromancers rumored to arrive in a few nights. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Ivory Tower licks felt unthreatened by what was supposed to be only a couple of Hecata. The Anarchs though, they were split. The androgynous one, who I found is called Jelena, thought it could be a good thing for the local Kindred, but Koffi was strongly opposed. She doesn't appear to hold the Giovanni in high regard, and view anyone following them and their new sect as a fool. Curious indeed. We only have one Giovanni in the city, so I decided to visit her.
Our resident Necromancer, apparently resides at a prominent cemetery, making her Haven out of a subterranean area accessible through a crypt. From my understanding of her clan, this is most unusual. Although it would keep her in direct contact with the dead I suppose. I wandered the cemetery until I was met by a woman dressed in fine silks. Introducing herself as Rachelle, I bluntly asked about this new arrival of Hecata. She was overly sarcastic and flippant, providing absolutely no relevant information. I attempted to get more information out of her, but she just laughed.
I decided to visit Koffi before ending my night. She told me most Giovanni stereotypes and allegations and I just stood there saying "yep, yep" and "oh" at appropriate times. Again, not very useful.
When I arrived at my haven I sent Rayner, the Keeper of Elysium, informing him of the nights events, which I'm sure he sycophantically repeated to the Prince. If I can maintain Rayner's position as Keeper as well as gain his trust, I might be able to use ye olde prestation to get him indebted to me in some capacity, which could prove very interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on the Anarchs and their west side Barony, for I truly like them and don't them to be hurt.
