And like, there is just something weird about Kiwami trying to carry this theme of accountability while disallowing all of the relevant women in Kiryu & Nishiki’s life sans Haruka and Reina (kind of) from having any external agency whatsoever. The misogyny undercuts the broader point of the game. Kiryu made everything worse by trying to save Nishiki, but he didn’t just like… do that while being honest about his intentions. He invoked Yuko. She had something to do with his decision, without her ever knowing or wanting to. Kiryu did her a “service” at the cost of his own life, regardless of whatever relationship they might’ve had, because she’s not really a character, before Yuko died offscreen anyway to make her brother’s arc progress. That’s a core issue of several other pieces of media which try to send humanitarian messages while actively dehumanizing certain groups, but it’s especially egregious in a property as earnest as this one. How do objects take responsibility anyways. How can you remove personhood from such an ostensibly important character in a game about personhood. Make it make sense.
