SHE KNEW THE FACE OF REBELLION   like she knew the smell of poison in the weeds.    some she’d placed there herself to safeguard from pests, but most left by men more inclined to sit back and wait for the prey to come to them than seek it out themselves.    hunters that didn’t dare waste their torches on the deep, dark forest when there were women to burn at the stake.    more of which had begun to disappear by the week, by the handful, by the smallest inkling of something amiss.     daughters and wives, neighbours and distant relatives, even a scattering of noblewomen had been dragged by the ear to their demise.

it was easy to be scared.    one didn’t so quickly purge the smell of burning flesh from their memory nor forget the sight of the blazes while the pillars still stood in a circle so ritualistic, the choice to display them as such ought to be suspicious in itself.    fear was an unfortunate side effect of being mortal.    that one day the breath might be stolen from her lungs was, a year ago, a price she’d have done anything to avoid.

“  my dear moira,  ”      there was no way of knowing the integrity to her sweet turn of phrase, only that it was delivered with a smile too mischievous for its own good.      “  when will you be joining me for dinner again?    you’ve evaded my company so long i’ve started  burning  just at the thought of it.  ”      a joke that put weight to the glance she paid around the shop, a room busied with items no man could put a name or purpose to if he tried.    glamours were powerful that way.          /     @nochtsisin​.     (  ♡’d  )

it wasn’t as if the shop saw much traffic --- given the state of things, with the fear and hatred that burned so brightly in the cities, those who sought her out either stopped showing or came only when they truly had no other option. given the lack of customers, however, meant that there really was no excuse for the sudden need she felt to tidy up some of the shelves upon seeing who had entered. if it were anyone else, perhaps they’d find what they need and leave her be. many who came didn’t really want to speak with her anyway which served her just fine. unfortunately, she wasn’t that lucky, knowing full well any peace of mind would have to wait. 

‘ my apologies, ‘ the words drip with false sincerity, ‘ but i’ve been kept busy. ‘ she keeps her back turned to her visitor and her hands busy with trinkets, sounding unaffected but unable to stop the roll of her eyes at what the other must deem a joke. 

with a soft sigh of breath and a final bobble placed neatly and correctly atop her shelf, she finally turns to face her guest. ‘ is there something you actually want? or am i to assume you came here at a time like this merely for a source of entertainment? ‘

it  is  a  rare  occasion  that  she  is  asked  to  assist  on  the  field,  even  her  superiors  seeing  that  her  skills  are  much  better  utilized  in  the  lab  rather  than  in  a  fight.  yet,  still,  the  time  comes  when  she  finds  herself  on  these  missions,  and  typically  the  company  isn’t  anything  worth  mentioning.  most  of  the  time ,  it’s  downright  dreadful.  however,  her  current  arrangement  is  the  exception  --  a  pairing  that,  despite  how  annoyed  she  may  seem,  is  one  she’s  content  to  find  herself  in.  at  the  very  least,  she’s  working  with  someone  she  knows  is  capable.  

even  though  she  holds  no  complaints  with  her  current  partner,  the  mission  itself  is  another  case.  so  far,  it  has  gone  smoothly,  but  something  about  the  ease  at  which  they’ve  progressed  is  putting  her  on  edge,  a  feeling  that  she  clearly  isn’t  hiding  very  well  given  sombra’s  comment.

i just wanted to say i’m sorry i literally haven’t posted any replies or whatnot for the last week. a lot happened as soon as i finished finals that i had to deal with but hopefully (Hopefully) it’s all sorted.

also, i’m working on setting up an art store this summer so a lot of my time is being dedicated to that. i think my plan for this blog is to really only write / come online thursdays or fridays (maybe both idk). posts will still run on a queue like i used to do and all that, but i think that’ll help me balance it with my other stuff + help me not get so burnt out with rping?
