THE SAGA CONTINUES
THE SAGA CONTINUES:
Acuña holds grip on his gold medals this year as he keeps his CLRAA’s berth for three straight times
by Dexter Ian Batongbacal, OD Sports Editor
Tumblr media
Edvan’s charm showed no signs of fading even after a two-year hiatus.
St. Dominic Academy’s Edvan Terdy Acuña’s late show thwarted his opponent’s momentum who took second set on his hand as he dominated the last two frames of the game and bagged his third gold medal this year, 3-1, in the Bulacan Provincial Athletic Meet 2023 Table Tennis Men’s Single in Baliuag, Bulacan, March 09, Thurday.
Tumblr media
Acuña advanced to the very first post-pandemic Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet, booking his CLARAA’s bid once again, this time, for three years. Edvan’s last appearance in the coveted regional meet was in 2019 and settled for bronze. He qualified at CLRAA 2020 but the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
He served a clinic game on his bracket as he paved his way to the championship with a flawless record. Edvan capitalized on his twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.
“I didn’t expect to win since nahinto po sa paglalaro dahil sa pandemic” (I didn’t expect to win since I stopped playing because of the pandemic) the Table Tennis champion said after being asked if he expected to qualify once again for CLRAA.
Tumblr media
I am proud and happy that I give joy to my parents every time I win [in a competition]), he added.
Recently, Acuña snatched a gold medal in the Bulacan Private Schools Association (BulPriSA) District I Athletic Meet 2023 Table Tennis Men’s Single last February 3. Also, he finished at the top of podium in the Provincial 1 Athletic Meet held last February 16 — his second gold medal. His coach, Mr. Vyron M. Enriquez could not contain his joy following Acuña’s successful bid for CLRAA 2023.
“Una masaya dahil first time, hindi naman tayo nag-expect na makarating sa CLRAA dahil ilang taon din nagpandemya at nahinto sa paglalaro yung bata. Ganon pa man masayang-masaya tayo at nakapasok nga sila sa CLRAA” (First [of all], I am happy because it’s [my] first time, we do not expect that we will reach this far [CLRAA] because of the many years he cannot play duet to the pandemic. Still, I am very happy because he made it to the CLRAA), Mr. Enriquez, SDA’s table tennis coach, said in a post-event interview.
Acuña will start his one-week campaign in CLRAA this upcoming April. Still, dates and venue are still to be announced.

Proyektong "Hawak Kamay" ng Baitang 11, matagumpay!
nina Paul Marquis Garcia at Jean Soliman, OD Senior Staffers
Tumblr media
Carla Veronica Villaseñor at Bb. Daenielle Sotamiento.
That is why I’m proud of the and to all of SDA students. Without them, this outreach activity won’t be possible.
“The program went well. They gave their best to serve, at naipakita nila ang imahe ng pagiging isang Dominikano” saad ni G. Magloyuan.

After two-year hiatus on in-person activities: SDA celebrates UN Month 2022
by Francine Navarro, OD Associate Editor
It is safe to travel again.
Tumblr media
“A festive beach holiday in Australia with the blazing sun and sea breeze? Perhaps a tour of the world's largest river: the Amazon, in South America? Or a chance to view the splendor of the Statue of Liberty in the USA, North America?” All of this just happened, November 11, Friday, as St. Dominic Academy of Pulilan, Inc. closed its United Nations Month 2022.
With hosts Lee Matthew Tan (12-Harmony), Jan Polla Buatis, Janna Guieb (12-Providence), and Stephen Carl Esguerra (12- Tolerance), the Araling Panlipunan-led activity revolved in the theme “International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture”.
In his remarks, Mr. Dean Richard O. Vasallo, Araling Panlipunan teacher underscored the importance of sustainability in this day and age.
Tumblr media
“This celebration is for you students who enjoy seeing fashion and sustainability all at the same time. It is for those who love expressing themselves through Art. To everyone who takes great pleasure in wandering the world through learning different cultures and flags. To those who commit themselves in reviving our biodiversity. I am with you. We all are. Always remember that those who give up are sure to lose. So let’s fight together- and let’s win.”
Separate programs were held for Grades 7 to 9 and Grades 10 to 12.
Tumblr media
During the program, CYM Music Ministry hyped the crowd with an old-time favorite song performance of Kamikazee’s “Narda”.
Tumblr media
Shortly after, the Onward Dominicans shared their radio broadcast feature presentation with headlines about school news relating to UN, St. Dominic Sports Team, and others.
Subsequently, the highly anticipated segment “Parade of Nations”, in which selected students from each section showcase their own crafted costumes from the different continents, made the crowd frenzy and energized.
Tumblr media
Grade 7 students represented Asia as Grade 8 students took charge of European countries. Grade 9 students were at the helm for African countries while Grade 10 students represented Pacific states. Senior High School grades 11 and 12 took charge of North and South American countries.
SDA’s UN 2022 also highlighted each section’s creativity with classrooms-turned-exhibit rooms and “Parade of Nation” costumes made of recyclable materials. The month also showcased students’ creativity and intelligence in the various contests held during the month.
In a statement Ms. Maribel M. Emanig, the Araling Panlipunan Subject Area Team Leader, thanked all the students and personnel who made the UN Month celebration successful.
SDA’s UN 2022 also highlighted each section’s creativity with classrooms-turned-exhibit rooms and “Parade of Nation” costumes made of recyclable materials. The month also showcased students’ creativity and intelligence in the various contests held during the month.
Tumblr media
“Congratulations po sa ating lahat. Maraming salamat po sa suporta. Hindi po magiging successful ang aming munting celebration kung wala po kayo our dear advisers, students, personnel, and Sisters” (Congratulations to all of us. Thank you very much for your support. Our simple celebration would not be successful if it were not for our dear advisers, students personnel, and Sisters).
Meanwhile in an interview with OD, Supreme Student Council President Norielyn Bantog said the UN month and similar activities will help foster more interaction among students.
“I think it is essential for us Dominicans to engage in this kind of activity because it helps us interact with each other. Through the UN, we can also promote harmony and acknowledge the different human beings in each country.”
November would be filled with co-curricular activities for students as SDA would also celebrate this year’s Sports Fest 2022. #

SDA opens S.Y. '22-'23, resumes in-person classes after two years
by Mel Christian Verona and Vinh Marco Tumang
Dominicans’ grand comeback is real!
After two years of distance learning, St. Dominic Academy of Pulilan, Inc. started School Year (SY) 2022-2023, Tuesday, August 16, which marked the SDA’s participation in limited to progressive in-person classes.
Themed “Transforming Dominicans for a Synodal Community: Journeying Together for a Christ-Centered Education,” the new school year is also known as Safe Delivery of Accessible, and Enhanced Learning Environment for Authentic, Transformative Education or the #SDAELEVATE.
Sr. Annaliza F. Hipolito O.P., the school’s new director/principal personally welcomed the students. She expressed her gratitude to the students and to their parents for choosing St. Dominic Academy of Pulilan Inc. In her welcoming speech, she also emphasized Faith, Hope, and Love as three of the most important things and reminded the students to always do their best as some things in life can only happen once.
Furthermore, to welcome students for this new academic year, programs and activities filled the first week of classes.
Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers prepared an opening salvo for the Dominicans which included song and dance numbers, spoken word poetry performances, and a music video.
Also, Campus Youth Ministry’s (CYM) Music Ministry serenaded the students with live band performances while the Dance Alliance Club members grooved to the beat with their TikTok dance performance.
Meanwhile, select Grade 12 students Carmella Dizon, Charles Bryan de Torres, Sean Paul Llave, and Therese Angelie Balagtas featured their daily routines for both face-to-face and online classes in their “Daily Life of a Dominican” vlogs.
Alongside the opening program, SSC officers held a “Campus Tour” for Grades 7, 8, and 9 students, with the transferees to familiarize them with the school and its facilities.
First week of classes centered on a three-day students' orientation with the first two days done in-person with their respective advisers.
A virtual orientation on the third day was held where the services of the Registrar, Library, Clinic, Prefect of Student Behavior Formation, and Campus Ministry Offices were explained. Finally, a training on the usage of Phoenix Aralinks CLE, SDA’s learning management system, for the Grade 7 students and the transferees also took place in the afternoon.
All said activities strictly adhered to minimum health and safety protocols such as handwashing, temperature checking, daily health monitoring, physical distancing, and disinfection among others to ensure the safe reopening of classes.
Week two of the school reopening is set to center on subject orientations and actual teacher instruction.

PALIHAN 2022: Huling Araw

SDA stages MusiKaramay year 2
On its second year, the SDA MusiKaramay: A Digital Concert for a Cause remained as an opportunity to help as concert proceeds to benefit the Tahanang Siena, a home to elderly OP-Sisters and a celebration of the Dominican talent. “MusiKaramay won't be a success without the people behind it. I would like to thank our SDA Sisters in supporting our program, our hosts, our students, personnel and alumna performers, our audio and video editors, and to all the people who helped in making this event possible,” Ms. Marie Katherine B. Eusebio, School Nurse and Extension Services In-charge told the Onward Dominicans. More than 20 performances graced the two-hour benefit concert late Friday afternoon which showcased the talents of SDA students, personnel, and alumni.
“Napakatalented ng mga bata. Buti po pumayag sila na sumali kahit natatakot sila” (The students are very talented. Good that they said yes to join [the concert] even though they are nervous) Ms. Kimberly Ann D. Sato, MAPEH teacher and one of the MusiKaramay personnel performers, said in an interview.
Ms. Sato also admired those students who, despite their busy schedules and workloads, voluntarily took part in the benefit concert.
Tumblr media
“Kinakabahan daw po kasi sila kasi first time nung iba. They [students] were nervous since it was the first time for some [to perform]. I told them they are good performers so why would they be nervous? Look at it, it had a good outcome) she added.
Furthermore, for Ms. Lelaine Santos, MAPEH teacher and one of the personnel performers, apart from the usual enjoyment these events bring, MusiKaramay is also a two-fold program – showcasing the Dominican talent and at the same time helping people in need to feel the Yuletide spirit.
I am glad and I enjoyed watching the performances of students, alumni, and of the SDA personnel. It is nice that despite of the pandemic, we were still able to produce these kinds of programs to showcase the talents of Dominicans and at the same time we get to let others feel the Christmas spirit) Ms. Santos told OD in an interview.
Tumblr media
Mr. Erwin Calilap, English teacher and one of the personnel performers, said he shrugged off his fear as he looked into the greater picture of being able to help people in need. “I was so hesitant when Ms. Kath [Eusebio] informed us that we will perform again. But, when I realized that many people benefitted from the proceeds last year, I told her that I, together with Ms. Santos, will submit again a performance."
Mr. Calilap added that the bond among the performers strengthened while they create the MusiKaramay presentation.
"When we are collaborating with the other personnel, I really enjoyed the company. It is not difficult to work with the ones who performed. I can say that we really enjoyed while shooting videos and helping one another especially on the tones of the music we sang as a group. In the end, the program succeeded! Congrats, Dominicans! Another one-of-a-kind celebration of the talents that God has given us to nurture and [to] share with others!” Meanwhile, for Hugh Breian Aniag of 8-Fortitude, one of the student performers, his MusiKaramay experience, is a very remarkable one as he also enjoyed the event. “I am thankful for the opportunity. It was one-of-a-kind and a very unforgettable one”, Aniag said.
Tumblr media
Online viewers expressed appreciation of the benefit concert citing the admirable Dominican talent and the nostalgic feels from the music.
It's nice to see them po, pati po ‘yung mga teachers na noon ko lang po nakita at narinig na kumanta, to come out of their comfort zones. Ang nostalgic din po kasi ng mga songs” (My favorite part was the first performance which is the “Star ng Pasko”. I am glad that SDA freshmen were able to showcase their talents. It’s nice to see them as well as the teachers who I heard sing for the first time, to come out of their comfort zones. The songs too are nostalgic) one student told the Onward Dominicans.
Tumblr media
Last year, MusiKaramay concert proceeds were able to help typhoon victims as well as street dwellers, and some uniformed personnel.
