My brother's girlfriend had HPV, so he went to get himself the HPV vaccine. There is a fee to pay (nothing much, something like €87) but it's completely free if you're in one of the "at risk" groups.
"What does that mean," he asks. "It's free if you're gay," he's told. "Ah. Would I have to like, prove it, or...?" "Just put in a check mark here."
My brother is in no way, shape or form attracted to men, but also he's stingy as it gets. So now he's officially gay. Congrats bro.

Fingal’s Cave in Scotland. Good example of how nature’s hexagonal bias can produce blocky shapes.

I think a lot of like discourse of what to focus on with this or that thing gets the end goal and things to ease newcomers into your ideas confused with each other.
Like yes perhaps the end goal is to get UBI going but if your Uncle Jerry is currently struggling with the concept of taxes maybe get him to understand the cost of road maintenance first before you start trying to get him onboard with free preschool.
Also just because someone is explaining the concept of taxes to Uncle Jerry doesn’t mean they don’t believe in free childcare.

TIL the two centers of the brain responsible for depression and anxiety respectively are both slightly bigger than each other, which explains a lot.

Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1
The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.
So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.
So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.
Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.
And the probe is working again.
From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

I like slow burns, but I also love the idea of Galo and Lio basically just skipping to like, stage four of a relationship immediately following the movie. Galo says "You can crash at my place" once they're done getting the Burnish out of the engine. Lio sleeps in Galo's bed that night, Galo makes him breakfast in the morning... and a week later they're acting like they're been married for twelve years.
They just totally skip the ramp up. Who needs the "getting to know you" stage when you've merged souls in a giant robot to save the entire world with magic alien fire?

Stereotypes that people have for themselves, while still sometimes harmful, are always so much funnier than the stereotypes that outsiders have for them.
Like outsiders are like “Asexual people are prudes and will yell at you for having sex!” and actual asexual people are like “All ace people want a dragon.”
Outsiders are like “Californians all surf and say dude a lot.” and actual Californians are like “If There Is Not A Taco Shop Within Five Miles Of Me At All Times I Will Literally Die.”

Things that work in fiction but not real life
torture getting reliable information out of people
knocking someone out to harmlessly incapacitate them for like an hour
jumping into water from staggering heights and surviving the fall completely intact
calling the police to deescalate a situation
rafting your way off a desert island
correctly profiling total strangers based on vibes
effectively operating every computer by typing and nothing else
ripping an IV out of your arm without consequences

nobuddy feels like they have a sharp attention span these days, right? and we all just click “agree on terms of service” because its hard to love yourself sometimes, well
enter Terms of Service, Didn’t Read: a website and a browser addon that streamlines the terms of service of many popular web services to be read by the tech sunday drivers.
Tumblr media
It’s graded from A (great) to E (awful) and if you have the addon you have access to the info about the website on your bar

I had a tattoo client ask if I ever used AI to design tattoos for me. Man I spent the better part of a decade doing shitty bit work as a graphic designer and now that I have the space to do whatever I want, I'm gonna let the computer generate random garbage for me? What next should I have a computer that eats my dinner and fucks my wife?
