My monstera obliqua and I like to play a game called “Leaf or Runner” where I guess whether the new node is going to be a leaf or a runner.

So far this node is looking like it might give me a leaf. But this fucker likes to get my hopes up and then laugh at me when it continues to run.

This is my lovely Alocasia Polly - I've been excited thinking she was giving me a new leaf, but I am now thrilled to say I'm convinced she's giving me a FLOWER!

Her first time ever to produce a flower, and I am beyond myself right now! Unfortunately, I may miss it while on vacation. 😕 HOWEVER, upon doing some quick research, I found the blooms can last up to a month. 🤞🏾

But this is a mighty accomplishment nonetheless!

In about 500 years my Hoya compacta will reach that size…

so, big news, i'm moving! bad news though is this means leaving my sunroom where my 100+ plants live. i'm moving in with my mom who's also a plant person, and there's not much room at her house, which means a massive downgrade. i've decided, these are the plants i'm keeping:

i have a few that didn't make the picture, but i think i can manage finding a spot for these. I'll probably have to buy a few growlights though. all my hoyas are coming, plus my other 'can't live without em' plants. i'm leaving the country at the end of this year and i trust my mom with my plants way more than my dad (a notorious killer of my plants whenever i leave them in his care). as for the rest of my plants, i have a few friends with green thumbs who i'm going to see if they want to take their pick of what's left.

it's been a fun 5 years with my plants, i love them all dearly, but i've wanted to downsize for a while. the time's finally come i guess! it's bittersweet, i look forward to the next era of my life, but some things have gotta go.

Yesterday I decided I was going to bite the bullet and finally buy one of these. I know hoya compacta are ridiculously slow growing and the variegated ones are even slower. But I think they are just gorgeous. I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem was 50% off (because they’re regularly $40!!!). Since it was on sale I also got some other plants! 😄

I’ve been showing you guys some of my more mature plants lately and this one is the OG. This plant was my first plant. I have had it for 10 years now. I first got it when it was the size of one of the little babies shooting off from it. It has moved with me 4 times across 2 provinces.

This is a plant that I will not be attempting to repot 😅 It is 100% root bound and not in a nursery pot so it has attached itself to the pot. Every once in a while a chonk will start growing out of the pot and eventually drop and I pot those up and give them to friends (pretty sure spider plants are actually some kind of hive mind waiting to take over the world)

🫙🌿 I've potted up the prop jar!

From my tall prop jar I had 3 philodendron silver sword cuttings and 3 philodendron verrucosum cuttings (initially it was one cutting that I further cut up because it had enough nodes - hence why the roots on one are a bit crazy)

I decided to put all 3 cuttings of each type into one pot because who doesn't love a chaotic and bushy philodendron!?

Alocasia Silver Dragon

I am in love with the texture of these leaves! I even have a bit of variegation on the one!

Note: Sport (unstable) variegation is somewhat common on alocasias. If you’re buying a variegated alocasia ensure that the majority of the leaves have variegation.

I made a mess and she is repotted!

I know Hoyas like being root bound. But it’s been 5 years and she was in super cheap soil with no drainage. I also wrapped one of her training vines back up around to the hoop (in case anyone wonders what happened to the length).

This is my 5yr old Hoya Carnosa and today she is getting a repot!
