Basic Lentil Bolognese
This basic Lentil Bolognese recipe is an essential in the vegan kitchen. Lentils are not only delicious, they’re cheap, filling and incredibly versatile and this recipe can form the backbone for all kinds of other meals.
This recipe calls for 400g of cooked puy or green lentils. To make this easier, I like to cook a whole 500g pack (dried weight) of lentils all at once, adding two bay leaves and…

Vanessa's Fab Choc Pecan Pie Slice
Vanessa’s Fab Choc Pecan Pie Slice
New Year? New You? naaaa,… it’s a New Choc full of Chocolate recipe by Vanessa!
As she writes:
While I don’t necessarily subscribe to the New Year, New Me mantra (we’re fabulous all year round!), I may have to admit that once or twice, or many times, over the Christmas period I over-indulged. And it was worth every second!
Now that it’s the New Year I still want to indulge though. And chocolate…

The Most Favourite Recipes from 2017
As I’m making plans to make the switch from Poppy and the Bees to The Vegan Larder, and it’s the end of the year, I thought it might be nice to look back on some of the biggest hits from Poppy and the Bees of 2017. A little looking back to say thank you, before leaping into a whole new year and new phase.
So how have I come up with this favourite recipe list?
Well, it’s a highly complex…

Cheezy Spinach Triangles
These are easy to make, and even easier to eat!! Yummy, crunchy cheezy triangles of deliciousness. Stuffed with spinach (or chard) and a hit of dill, they’re reminiscent of  a Greek pie, but veganised and made cute for eating whilst chatting and sipping wine.
I love veganising old favourite recipes and surprising my friends and family with them at parties or when they’re over for a small dinner…

The BEST Avo on Toast for Christmas.. plus meet Vanessa!
I have Christmas news..
Very SUPER exciting Christmas news!
I’m teaming up with my friend Vanessa (Say Hi to Vanessa!) to create a whole new blog & business.
WHAT?!
At some point in the next few weeks, Poppy and the Bees will transform into The Vegan Larder. I feel a little pang at changing the name, but let’s face it, Poppy isn’t the greatest advocate of vegan living, being as she’s a…

Vegan Pasta Frittata
I’m not sure why I’ve been so slow to the party on vegan frittata and quiches. They’re easy to make, and best of all, delicious to eat.
In fact, I’m pretty sure if you served one side by side with an egg one, you would be hard pressed to say which is which.
The basic *egg* replacement mix is super easy. Just a packet of silken tofu, mixed with a few Tablespoons of gram (chickpea) flour and some…

Coconut Shortbread Stars
It occurred to me the other day, that shortbread and all those shortbread-a-like biscuits that have that flaky short crumb are basically just shortcrust pastry with sweetener and maybe flavourings..
And now I had mastered shortcrust pastry, I could probably master yummy biscuits too.
Mind. Blown.
So, as it is Christmas, and as shortbread is a family tradition (My Granny’s was legendary) I thought…

Caramel Coconut Cinnamon Fudgies
This recipe is the result of a happy accident. I tried to veganise a ‘blondie’ (aka caramel brownie) recipe, and it nearly ended in disaster.
It turns out that I should have read the recipe all the way through. I can hear my 7th grade Home Ec teacher reminding me to”first, read the recipe”, and I will try my very best to remember this.
On the other hand, if I hadn’t been so scatty and gung-ho, I…

The Best Broccoli in the Universe!!
I know calling this the Best Broccoli in the Universe is quite a steep claim to make, I mean broccoli can be delicious in all kinds of ways.
But, it IS truly the best way to make it. It’s also dead easy.
First, you create a char on the Broccoli, by heating up a wok and adding the broccoli to it (No oil just yet!) Once you have a few darkened edges, you add a little oil and the garlic, chilli and…

Zingy Carrot, Orange & Turmeric Salad
I make a batch of this zingy and easy salad pretty much every week during winter. It uses up the ever present carrots that come in the organic veg box that I have delivered once a week, but better than that, it’s delicious!
What I love too about this salad , is that it keeps brilliantly for a few days, ready to add to sandwiches, pop into a lunch box, or to serve alongside a main such as a pasta…

Chickenless Pot Pies
I’ve never had my Granny’s light touch with pastry. She could turn out pies & delicate melt in the mouth biscuits with no problem whatsoever. Whenever I’ve made pastry, it’s tended to go solid and chewy & not at all nice.
So when the Gardener asked for pie I panicked a bit. But, I didn’t want to go down the pre-made shortcrust pastry route, because it would have meant leaving the house. Also, I…

Easy Vegan Braised Leeks with Tarragon.
This super simple and truly delicious recipe is one I turn to again & again for a side dish to go with a wintery feast. It barely requires any prep, and happily sits braising in a pan whilst the inevitable kitchen chaos happens when you’re trying to serve a crowd.
The braising turns the leeks into silky loveliness, whilst the tarragon infuses the whole with a fragrant & uplifting aniseed note…

Whole Roasted Pumpkin with Smokey Bean Chilli
This year I grew a Cinderella Pumpkin. You know, the kind that was turned into a carriage and whisked her away, drawn by four white horses to the ball.
I mean, look at it? So Pretty!
So I knew I wanted to make sure that when I cooked it, the dish was really special. Princess special, the sort of thing you might find at a lavish banquet.
Beautiful to look at, with a delicious filling inside.
(I…
