using pantalone art bait to point out something i've noticed about fan-creators of genshin (specifically regarding pantalone, of course ).
small note that i use they/he as pantalone's pronouns!
there is so much talent that i see, though some part of me always dies when someone says that pantalone's given name, or whatever name they use in liyuen (if pantalone is not from liyue in their work ) is furen (富人). and no! i am not talking about the title, ‘富人’ instead of 'regrator', but quite literally saying that pantalone's given name/personal alias is 富人 (furen).
simply stated, furen (富人) is the chinese translation of pantalone's title, 'regrator', literally meaning rich-man. needless to say, putting that as pantalone's 'given'/'true' name is kind of akin to saying that sandrone's real name is 'marionette', or (in a less obvious way), saying that arlecchino's real name is 'valet'.
please do just a little bit of research & compose an actual liyuen name for pantalone! what i usually do is search up 'common chinese names' & go from there! most chinese names (as far as i'm aware) are usually 2-3 characters (including the last name). we have hu tao for example, 'hu' as her family name, and 'tao' as her given name. there's also (mao) xiangling, with 'mao' as xiangling's last name, and 'xiangling' as her given name.
if there's a specific meaning you're going for, i'd suggest searching up 'chinese names that mean [blank]' or something along those lines! when coming up with my own headcanoned name for pantalone, reddit & quora was amusingly helpful. if you can find any sort of translation website (don't just use google translate!) to figure out what a specific character means, i'd suggest doing that too!
of course, if you know anyone who's familiar with chinese, asking them absolutely cannot hurt! this would help with both meaning and of course, sound. (there's always a chance of putting together a couple of characters and having it potentially read as something else, especially without the pinyin. other times, specific combinations may not sound too good? i've been there where i've found characters whose meanings i felt really worked, and yet sounded really funky together, lol. )
honestly i think that for pantalone you may even have a little bit of liyue (especially regarding not even having to think of a last name??), so that should ... technically be easier?
regardless, thank you for reading :]
