The question floated in the air. Your heart felt like it was beating backwards if that was possible. Your hands went sweaty, your mouth went dry. He waited for an answer.
You stumbled over the vocabulary in your head. You wanted to say words that didn’t make sense in this case. Random weird words. You wanted to say something. Your mouth told you no. He slowly pulled his hands away from yours.
“I-I don’t know where that came from”, you whispered.
His lips formed a thin line. Not his polite smile. His upset thin line.
“Okay”, was the quiet response. “I’m going to go”, he said getting up.
Your heart was breaking. Shattering into thousands of little pieces. You doubted he would want to be in a really serious relationship just yet. He was going to have hundreds of girls in his DM’s. It was all too fast anyway. You would of fled the scene too if he had said that.
He looked at you for a minute. “Look at me”, he mumbled. You looked up at his tall frame, trying to stop yourself from crying.
“Yea?”, your voice cracked a bit. You wanted to die.
He let out a loud sigh. His hand reached out for yours. It looked as if he regretted his previous words. “I’m not going to run”.
You slowly grabbed his hand. He pulled you up from your seat. He took you outside of the Tim’s, and started walking down the street.
“I don’t know what I was thinking, I didn’t mean it. Like it’s all too fast, I couldn’t possibly know if I loved you yet”, you rambled, trying to do anything to make him stay.
“Y/n”, he drawled. You shut your mouth. He side eyed you. “You meant it a little bit if you thought it”.
Your shoulders slumped. “But just a little bit”.
He stopped abruptly. “It’s okay”, he whispered. He laced his fingers with yours and just walked. He wasn’t sure of where he was going. Anywhere with you was okay.
Eventually, after a long walk, you reached a nice little spot in a quieter area of the city. You sat down in the grass, pulling him down with you. “I’m sorry”, you mumbled.
He laid down on the grass and closed his eyes. “It’s fine”, he muttered.
“But I don’t feel like it’s fine”, you said quickly.
He opened one eye and looked at you. “It’s fine”, he murmured.
You laid down beside him. “Are you sure”?
“Yea”, he said, looking at peace. There was a calm about him. His face completely relaxed.
His nose suddenly scrunched up. “What are you staring at?”, he questioned, opening one eye to look at you.
“Looking at that hot guy over there”, you joked and pointed to some random guy walking.
Kaapo sat up immediately. “Anteeksi, kuka?”, he looked confused but turned to look at you.
You giggled and cupped his face. “I’m just kidding. He’s right here silly”, you stuck your tongue out.
Kaapo smirked and softly pulled you into a kiss. It was gentle and his lips were plush.
“I love you”, he mumbled.
~~ Time skip ~~
Preseason had started and Kaapo was doing good. You couldn’t make any of his previous games, because you were stuck back at home. However, when you saw he was playing Jersey you knew you had to go.
You were just chilling in the hall, waiting for your friend to show up. She loved New Jersey, so you obviously invited her. You hadn’t been paying much attention to anyone in the hall. There was a lot going on, with people rushing around and zooming past you.
“Hey”, said a voice. You looked up to see a mop of brown curls. You grimaced. Jack Hughes.
“Hey”, you said not wanting to be rude, but you did return your attention back to your phone.
“So you like hockey?”, he asked trying to make conversation.
“Yep”, you replied quickly.
“What team?”, he said smirking.
“Any one other then the devils”, you made eye contact with him.
He didn’t look pleased with your answer. “Could you ever”?
“Nah. My friend is on the Rangers so”, you said, but never finishing. You mentally face palmed. You should of said boyfriend. You started arguing with yourself. Was he your boyfriend? It’s not like anything was made official. You decided to ask him about it tonight.
“Who”, he said quickly.
Then, the Rangers locker room door flew open and a bunch of the boys came out laughing. Kaapo was laughing and shoving the boys in good fun. You smiled longingly at him. Hughes tensed up.
“Oh”, was his quiet response.
“Yea”, you said awkwardly. “Good luck on the game though”, you continued.
He nodded and looked down looking embarrassed. You patted his shoulder and walked to the arena.
The game felt so long. The devils won and Jack shot you a look. You scowled in response and waited for Kaapo.
He looked drained when he finally exited the locker room.
You didn’t say anything, you figured if you did he might break down. He dropped his bags and threw his arms around your frame.
“Missed you”, he muttered. “Glad you came”.
“When did you realize?”, you asked smiling.
“Soon as I was on ice. Saw you”, he mumbled.
“Yea”, you murmured back, rubbing his back.
“Can leave?”, he was no longer even attempting to formulate proper English sentences.
“Yea of course”, you giggled.
The way back to the hotel was comfortably silent.
Upon entering the hotel room, Kaapo dropped his bag and flopped over on the bed. He let out a loud grunt into the pillow and put his hands over his head.
You held back laughter as you lugged the hockey bag near his bed.
He turned his head to look at you and reached for you. You grabbed his hand and kissed his knuckles. He let out a soft sigh and pulled you forward.
“You okay?”, you whispered, your hands travelling up and down his arms.
“Tired”, he mumbled. He looked really tired. Should you really bug him about it?
Yes. Yes you should.
“S-so what are we”, you stuttered.
His eyes went wide. “What mean”, he rushed out. He was panicked and tired and that made his English sound broken.
“Like. Are we together? Are we just friends who are kind of romantic? I don’t know what to call us”, you sighed.
His face relaxed. “What you want to be”, he murmured.
You brought your hand to his face. “I want to be a couple”, you said lovingly.
He smiled. “Then Y/N, will you be my girlfriend”, he struggled to think of how to structure his sentence. But he got it. Perfectly.
“Yea”, you whispered back.

4am Love~ Kaapo Kakko
Tumblr media
“Kaapo, baby, you gotta wake up and do your injection,” you whispered, running your hand along your Finnish boyfriends arm.
“Mmm soon,”
“Baby, you gotta do it now. You’ve been low all day and this is the schedule.”
Sighing, Kaapo rolled away from you in the bed, pressing himself against the wall to avoid doing his insulin injection.
“Come on, please? I’ll wash your hair in the shower next time?”
He huffed and propped himself on his elbows looking at you, his tired eyes and messy hair had you wishing you didn’t have to take him out of his sleeping state. You felt terrible, Kaapo had a really bad day with low insulin and you wanted nothing more than for him to feel better, he couldn’t do that without his injections though, and although it was 4 in the morning, you had set alarms to make sure he followed the doctors orders.
“Baby, I’ll do it ok? promise that once done you stop worry about me?” Whenever Kaapo first woke up, his English would be extremely jumbled and his Finnish accent was thicker, you found it adorable and you fell in love with it every time, even after 7 months of being together. You had met when he was in Vancouver for WJC and Finland won gold against USA, they were at the same hotel as you and you had accidentally bumped into each other and dropped both your keys and then when you picked them up you had swapped accidentally.
“I guesssss, but it’s my job to worry!” You hold his hands in yours after he pulls you into his lap.
“No, that’s my job!” His brows furrow together as he says it.
“I worry about my girl, you have diabetes too, and you always manage to forget your injections, on your low nights I don’t wake you, just do for you.” He was right, you’d had diabetes the same amount of years as Kaapo and it was scary for you at times. You hadn’t been as bad when you were younger and now you always seem to be low.
“I didn’t know you did my injections for me..” you trail off looking into his eyes,
“Of course, need your sleep, I do for you.” He smiles softly, you were the only one who he genuinely smiled around and it made your heart flutter every time.
“We save each other, that’s what relationships are!” He pulled you forward and kissed you,
“Just promise me you won’t like accidentally stab me one night?” You laugh into his lips, his head whips back and he laughs out loud,
“I pinky promise I won’t hurt you with a needle! I love you too much to do that!”
“I love you too goofball!” You both look at each other, wide eyed,
“Did we just?....” he whispered, tucking your hair behind your ear,
“Confess our love for each other? Yeah.”

Long Distance: Kaapo Kakko X Reader (part 3)
Tumblr media
*gif isn’t mine, I am sure I found it on here, I have scoured everywhere, can’t find the owner, if you made it tell me so I can give credit where it’s due*
Authors Note: OOP- I think I know where I’m bringing this now (I have 2 ideas) but you guys will hate me for it for a bit if I go with one of them
Summary: Kaapo and the reader are in Vancouver for the draft.
Warnings: *Possibly a curse or two I can’t remember. Also there’s a passive comment in here, I ain’t got anything against New Jersy btw.
Requested: Yes | No
Word Count: 1,060
It took a lot to convince your mom to bring you to Vancouver. She was pissed about what happened in Slovakia. She was really mad. But you were able to do it. The plane ride over you were giddy. You were excited. You were staying in Vancouver for a week. Plenty of time.
When the plane landed you practically bounced off. Your mom starting becoming suspicious about why you wanted to come to Vancouver. You decided to send Kaapo a text to let him know you were here.
You: Hey I’m here, what are you up too?
Immediately you got a text back.
Kaapo: press
You: oh fun
Read
This was going to be a busy time and it wasn’t necessarily his fault. Besides, he just told you he was working with press. You were too happy for him to possibly be upset about it.
The hotel you and your mom were staying at was nice. Fancy. Gorgeous. Had a nice restaurant beside it too, so your mom treated you there.
Mom was giving you weird vibes however.
You were seated at the table and the second you ordered and the waiter took the menus she gave you a look.
She swished the water and ice in her cup. “So. When were you going to tell me you chased a boy here?”, she said simply. She didn’t sound mad or upset.
You slumped I your chair. “Mom I-“, she cut you off.
“Hey hey. I get it. Sometimes you fall for the wrong person at the wrong time. Sometimes the right person at the wrong time. I just would of liked to know why you had Auntie Aada almost call the police for your return”, she said with a chuckle, taking a sip of her water.
Visibly relaxing, you told her everything. She listened and laughed. She sided with you on most of what happened.
“Aada just worries. Long distance is hard”, mom told you. You knew it was true.
“Yea, but Mom something about this feels right. Not like he’s my soulmate or anything. I mean he very well could be, but that’s not the point. Everything is calm between us. There’s a peace and appreciation that no one else has ever shown me. There’s something there. I haven’t known him long enough to say I’m in love with him but Mom I think that spark is the start. That little something is going to be bigger. I know it’s not going to be easy, but life isn’t easy”, you took a deep breath. Mom looked at you in adoration.
“My Baby is growing up”! Her eyes watered as she said this and her hand grabbed yours. “If long distance is okay with you, then I’m okay with it”.
You blinked back happy tears. She got it. Your mother got it. She was going to support you through it. Dinner was calm after that. Conversation flowed easily.
“Draft is tomorrow. Are you going to be there”?
“Of course”.
~~~~~~~~~
You and your mom sat up with Kaapo and his family. You waited patiently with him, soothing and comforting him. This was big. Obviously, his childhood dream was coming true.
“Your okay babe”, you whispered to him. He had a straight face and was thinking hard.
“Thank you”. He looked over at you and some of the tension in his shoulders disappeared. But not all of it.
You massaged his hand. It always helped you calm down when you were younger. You hoped this would help him. The pad of your thumb ran along the palm of his hand, rubbing slow circles.
“You have small hands”.
You looked up at him with a smirk. “No my hands are average sized. You just have really big hands”.
He smirked but quickly returned his attention to the stage. You rested your head on his shoulder, continuing to massage his hand. Everyone was talking and being loud but the two of you were content with being silent.
New Jersey had taken their place on the stage to announce their selection. Martin Brodeur was announcing it. “For first over all, the New Jersey Devils are proud to select from the US program”, Kappos face fell, “Jack Hughes”.
“New Jersey sucks anyway”, you whispered while clapping for Hughes. You doubted it would help comfort him but it was something. They took their pictures and whatever.
It was a no brainer when the New York Rangers have Kaapo as their selection. It all blurred together, him getting up and hugging you first and then everyone else around him, his walk up, the pictures. The everything.
You were fucking proud.
You knew he was going to be occupied for a long time. You took your phone out and opened Instagram. Multiple notifications came up quickly on your phone.
“Was that you”?
“Are you at the draft”?
“You went to Vancouver”?
You ignored them. Your followers started slowly increasing. You changed your account to private for the time being. Kaapo has found your account making you smile and follow him back.
Opening the explore page, you searched for the Rangers. You followed them. Their page was already quickly filling up with Kakko posts.
New notification: “Is Kakko your boyfriend”?
You didn’t know what to say. Was he? No, the two of you haven’t talked about that. You read it over and over. The question upset you more then it should of. What were you guys? You were too easily upset, you pinned it on a lot of change.
You exited and started scrolling through your feed. Nothing interesting. Basic selfies, basic vacation pics, basic ads.
It was getting late, you had to leave with mom to go back to the hotel. You hugged the Kakko’s congratulations, and left. Kaapo was still busy with the rangers team and press. Mom talked about how much she loved the draft and how she wanted to go to another one.
That made you happy. When you reached the hotel room, only then you realized how tired you were. Almost immediately you fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~
You slept in, but woke up well rested. Quickly, you noticed mom wasn’t in the hotel room. She left a note for you on the clock.
‘Out with the girls, will be back before 5’
It was 11 am. What felt like hundreds of messages spammed your phone. Kaapo had texted you too.
Kaapo: When you get up text me?
You: Sorry I slept in. What’s your plan today?
Your phone dinged almost immediately.
Kaapo: No plans yet. Waited for you.
You: Think we could go somewhere to talk?
You left your phone on the nightstand and started getting ready. Your favourite summer clothes was a good choice. Flip flops and you were almost ready to go. Your hair was put into a lazily done bun before you sat back onto the bed.
Kaapo: Sure
You both decided to meet at the Tim Hortons closest to where he was staying. It wasn’t a far walk for you. Even though you could of taken the bus, you wanted to enjoy Vancouver.
The bell dinged as you opened the door. A quick scan of the Tims was all you needed. An awkward, out of place Kaapo sat in the back corner. You smiled but walked over.
“Is this seat taken”, you said in a deep voice.
Kaapos head snapped up to look at you. He chuckled, but motioned to the chair. You slid into the chair with ease. You rest your chin on your hand and looked intently at Kaapo.
“What are we?”, you asked loudly.
Kaapo went tense. “What do you mean?”, he mumbled, tracing random patterns on the table.
“Like. Are we together? Are we not?”, you sighed.
“I-“, he paused. “I don’t know. What do you want to be?”, he finished.
You smiled softly at him. “I want to be your girlfriend”, you said in a teasing tone.
He smiled. “Y/n, will you be my girlfriend”, he smirked.
“I, Y/n, agree to be your girlfriend”, you said dramatically. You both stopped for a second before bursting into loud fits of laughter. It wasn’t even that funny, so you weren’t sure why. You were wiping tears from your eyes, still trying to hold back laughter.
You reached for his hands. He reached for yours. Locking fingers together, you both giggled. Stupid teenager babble.
“Oh my god! Tell me how everything was for you!”, you exclaimed. You jumped out of your chair and almost leaped across the table to embrace him. His arms wrapped around you as he hummed in delight.
“Was good”.
“No no like TELL me about it”, you said excitedly.
So he did. He sat there and talked to you about it. He tried to be conservative about it. It was obvious he didn’t want to make everything about him.
You loved it. You loved hearing him talk about something so important to him. You loved just hearing him talk. You loved that this was a big part of his life, and inevitably yours too.
“I love you”, you blurted.
He froze. Kaapo looked at you like you had three heads. You were mentally beating yourself up over it. You didn’t even mean it. You didn’t know if you loved him yet. It was all too fast and all too soon. It was a spur of the moment. Your face went red. You regretted it immediately.
“You what”?

Long distance: Kaapo Kakko X Reader (part 2)
Tumblr media
*gif isn’t mine, I finally found the maker, @pyatts*
Authors Note: This one is also pretty bad. Next part is gonna be good. Can we please give Kakko more love on this site though? Please and thanks 😂❤️💙
Summary: Kaapo Kakko and Reader get closer and enjoy each other’s company until an obstacle gets in the way (still not completely sure where this is going)
Warnings: Swearing (I think)
Requested: Yes | No
Word Count: 1,524 words
Your heart stopped. Aada’s arms were folded across her chest. Hale seemed upset with himself. You swallowed the lump in your throat and closed the door behind you.
“What happened back there”, Aada snapped.
“Where?”, you said slowly. You could practically hear Aada’s teeth gritting. Hale hung his head.
“At the ice. Your also late. What took you so long?”, she bombarded you with questions.
“That was just messing around”, you hesitated in your answer. Her brows creased.
“I told your mother I wouldn’t let you get involved with any of the boys here. You seemed familiar with him. He’s no good”, she gritted.
You rolled your eyes. “Y/N, I cant believe you would do this! Your parents trusted us with you!”, Hale shouted.
“I don’t see the problem!”, you yelled back.
“We are leaving in the morning”, Aada deadpanned.
Your stomach dropped. “No. I’m staying to watch the rest of the games”.
Hale snorted. “Good luck without tickets”.
You were disgusted with how they were acting. They were acting like children and not mature adults.
“I’m leaving”, you announced. Slamming the key card on the table, you grabbed your suitcase by the door. Before they could stop you, you walked out.
You sighed and walked to the elevator, you were going to have to go get a room. You pressed the button and the elevator opened a few seconds after. You heard Aada’s voice. Kaapo stood before you in pajama pants and a bucket of ice.
“Y/N? Where you going”?
You walked in the elevator with him, quick so Aada and Hale didn’t see you. “I have to go get a room”, you mumbled.
Kaapo raised his brow. “You could come down the hall to me”, he informed you.
“Your roommate might not like that”, you nudged him.
He smiled, “Roommates with girl. Won’t be back tonight”.
“I couldn’t”, you said shyly. “I don’t want to intrude”.
“It’s okay. I want you there. There is no game for few days”, his hands gripped the bucket tighter, knuckles turning white.
“Okay, if your sure”. Kaapo smiled and his finger went to the button indicating your shared floor.
It was a quiet ride. The elevator made a few stops along the way. The walk was also quiet. Not an awkward quiet. More of a peaceful, comfortable quiet.
You heard Aada panicking down the hall. She was on the phone with who you assumed was the receptionist. You swallowed thickly. Kaapo opened the door of his room and ushered you in.
It was nice. Obviously boys had taken over, but it was decently clean.
“This is nice”, you smiled.
“Yea is a nice room”, he grinned back.
“Promise I’m not going to be murdered tonight”, you joked, holding your pinky finger out.
Kaapo let out a chuckle, “I promise”. He wrapped his pinky finger around yours. It was a peaceful exchange. Pulling away from him wasn’t particularly easy.
He set the ice bucket on the dresser and grabbed the remote. He sat on the bed and started flipping through the channels. You stood awkwardly. A normal occurrence for you. He looked over at you and patted the bed beside him. Happily you sat next to him. He passed the remote over to you.
“Nothing good”, he mumbled before flopping back on the neatly made mattress. You giggled, and settled on the random show that was playing when he handed the remote to you. You set it on the night stand and flopped down beside Kaapo. You closed your eyes and just enjoyed the moment. Knowing that tomorrow Aada and Hale were going to ship you back to Canada for sure.
The two of you sat in silence for what felt like forever. Really it had only been ten minutes.
“How long are you staying?”, Kaapo sounded sleepy.
You turned your head to look at his face. “I’m not sure”.
~~~~~~~~
The next morning was calm. Kaapo shook you awake gently. He was mumbling something in Finnish and sleep painted his expression.
“What are you saying?”, you mumbled, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
“Food”, he mumbled back.
On the nightstand was a variety of fruits and what looked like pancakes. You sat up slowly, still not completely awake. “Nice”, you whispered to yourself.
Kaapo smiled at the comment and popped a strawberry in his mouth.
Breakfast was quiet. The fruit was fresh and the ‘pancakes’ were warm and soft. You savoured every bite. “So what’s your plan for today?”, you asked looking over at the tired boy.
He gave you a lazy smile. “Not sure. We can walk”, he relied softly. He put his head on your shoulder for a moment. “Whatever you like”, he continued. Your fingers started to brush through his hair, taming the bed head.
“It doesn’t matter to me”, you told him. Truthfully it didn’t. This was nice. He was nice. He was calm and peaceful and soft.
“I can take you out”, he said smirking.
You let out a snort. “We had a deal mister”. You booped his nose. “Boop”, you finished.
His eyebrow lifted slightly but he returned the favour. Also ‘booping’ your nose.
Yea. This was nice.
~ Time skip ~
Finland had advanced to the finals. Against your precious Canada. As a Canadian you couldn’t wear a Finland jersey. It just wasn’t going to happen for you. Maybe another person would. For you? Never.
The game was almost over. If Canada didn’t get their shit together you knew you were going to loose to Finland. You watched the game carefully. In the end Finland prevailed. Taking home the champs. They celebrated and cheered. They worked hard for it. You were happy for them. You were happy for Kaapo. Even though Canada lost.
You waited for him. You walked around an explorers fully aware that this could take a few hours. There was a small shop and you got Kaapo something to eat. You examined the walls of the arena.
“Y/N!”, a woman called out to you.
Your head almost spun like BeetleJuice. Aada and Hale stood on the other side of the arena. Your heart started racing.
“Y/n?”, Kaapo’s voice echoed.
Aada started marching towards you. “Your going back! I can’t let anything happen to you”!
Your lip quivered. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go. Kaapo walked up beside you. “What’s going on”?
“Give me your phone”, you said hurriedly.
Kaapo looked surprised and worried but handed it over to you unlocked. Your hands were shaking as Aada was getting closer.
“Here”, you handed it back quick. You put your number in his contacts.
He looked confused. “What is happening?”, he whispered.
“I have to leave”, you said quietly. You cupped his face and kissed his cheek.
Aada was now mere feet away. “Congratulations”, you whispered. With that, Aada harshly grabbed your arm and started pulling you away.
Kaapo took a step forward but you shook your head. You motioned to his phone. He looked defeated.
Aada dragged you out of the building and to the car. The car ride was full of scolding. They were very upset. Of course they were. They didn’t know where you were.
“Your leaving in the morning. I don’t want you getting involved with boys halfway across the globe”, Aada said bitterly. Your crossed your arms and sulked in the back.
“Why?”, you asked, exhausted.
“Because long distance doesn’t work!”, she snapped back.
You held back the tears in your eyes. “Okay well one, this one didn’t have to be. And two, just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean I have to stay away from them”!
Aada glared at you in the mirror, her lips a thin line. Hales face matched hers. “I said no”, was her firm reply. That was the end of the conversation and you knew better then to continue to argue.
~~~~~~~~~~
It was early the next morning. You bitterly put your luggage in the car. Hale decided to come with Aada for the ride to the airport. You said nothing. They tried to talk to you. You said nothing. They tried everything. You still said nothing.
Hale tried to help you with your luggage but you refused. As you waited for your flight they tried to hug you. You remained stiff as a board. Preferring to not talk to them at all.
You thought you might make Aada cry. You sat beside them, waiting for them to call your flight. The same bitter expression rested on your face. Your phone dinged. You took it out of your pocket and checked.
?: Can you get a flight to Vancouver for the 21st?
You raised your brow.
You: I’m sure I could somehow? Who is this?
You were confused. Ding!
?: Kaapo. I will be there for draft day. Meet me in Vancouver?
Your heart fluttered.
You: I’ll do my best
This was your chance. This could change everything. Love was a strong word. So you wouldn’t say you were in love with Kaapo yet. However the feelings were strong and you wanted to explore them.
Kaapo: <3
This was it.
“Flight 245 is boarding”.

Long Distance: Kaapo Kakko X Reader (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Authors Note: Oh this is trash. But Kaapo Kakko doesn’t get enough love on here. It ain’t fair tbh. This is a multipart, this first part sucks ass. But it’s fine. I didn’t proofread either oops.
Summary: Kaapo Kakko and Reader meet each other at the worlds (idk where this is going yet oops)
Warnings: Swear words. Other then that I think it’s okay. Didn’t proof read either, I’m sorry.
Requested: Yes | No
Word Count: 2,324
The airport was cold in Finland. It was May so you were sure that you were just dramatic. Maybe it was cold. You rolled your eyes at your own stupidity as you waited to pick up your luggage. Helsinki was scary, and you didn’t even leave the airport yet! You were alone and not even eighteen yet. You worked hard to graduate early. Taking online classes and dedicating your time to your school work. You wanted to travel for your eighteenth year of life. Your mom knew a kind older woman who was going to bring you into her home for awhile so you could explore Finland and the rest of the world. Your teeth chattered. You picked up your luggage and walked outside. You saw the small car parked outside and the older lady standing outside of it. She looked serious and it alarmed you slightly.
“Aada?”, you asked. She nodded and pulled you in for a hug. She mumbled some Finnish in your ear. She pulled back and dusted you off.
“Sorry. I just haven’t seen you in fifteen years”, she said solemnly. Her eyes were watery and although she wasn’t grinning, there was a shadow of a smile on her face. Aada looked uncomfortable.
“We are not big on touch here in Finland”, she said motioning for you to get in the car. You got in and the heat was on. You smiled. She looked at you and the atmosphere became warm.
“Your mother and I used to be close in University”, she told you. “Roommates actually. I introduced her to your father actually”, her hands gripped the wheel as she navigated her way out of the airport parking.
“Yea?”, you asked with genuine curiosity.
“Oh yes!”, she said sounding happier. “Your mother and your father made a good match. Getting them to go on a date wasn’t hard”, her lips curled slightly.
“I was one of the first people to hold you when you were born”.
Your brow raised. You were shocked. You didn’t think that was the case. “Really”?
“Why yes child. I was your mothers best friend. I held you before your Nana and Grammy”, Aada remained focused.
“So what happened to you after I turned three”? You were invested now. You obviously wanted to know the woman you would be staying with for a while.
“My family was here. My husband was missing me. A Long distance relationship from Canada to Finland is hard. Long distance relationships are just hard. So I packed up and came back here. I had the intention of visiting twice a year but life gets in the way”, she sounded so sad.
“Why are you so sad?”, your expression fell in tune with hers.
“I just missed so much of your life little one. I miss your mother and Canada”.
Her tone was monotonous. You didn’t want to keep pestering her about it. The drive, although long, went by very quick. Aada wanted to know everything. So the conversation kept the both of you occupied.
When you finally arrived at Aada’s house you looked at it in awe. Decorations welcoming you adorned the small house. A big banner over the door caught your eye as it opened to reveal her husband. You smiled. “For me?”, you asked excitedly.
“I don’t see who else”, she smiled. You excitedly got out of the car. You got out and hugged Aada’s husband. Hale was his name and honestly? That was badass to you.
Inside Aada had prepared some comfort foods. Mac and Cheese steamed on the table. Your mouth watered. Aada’s phone rung, interrupting the conversation you and Hale were having about hockey. She spoke in Finnish over the phone. She shook her head and hung up.
“Y/n could you go take the trash out? It’s being picked up early this week”, she said with an eye roll. Hale chuckled.
“Yea sure”.
You walked outside. Across the street was an outdoor rink. You saw two boys skating around on it. You smiled as you heard them laughing. You put the trash on the curb and started walking inside.
Upon opening the door, you saw Hale jump out of his chair. “Tickets! I got tickets! Front row”!
“For?”, you asked.
“World Junior Cup!”, Hale was ecstatic.
“Isn’t that in Slovakia?”, Aada asked.
“Well Y/n said she wanted to travel!”, he was excited.
“Are you okay with that”? Aada wanted to make absolutely sure you were okay with going to Slovakia.
“Yea! Let’s do it”!
~ Time Skip ~
It was time. You were in Slovakia with Hale and Aada for the quarterfinals. The arena was filling up fast. Somehow you managed to get separated from them both. So now you sat awkwardly, hoping someone was going to help you.
“Kadonnut”?
The voice shocked you. You looked up quickly. Just a boy, he looked about your age. Blonde, blue eyes. Carrying a large bag. His eyebrow was raised. You didn’t understand what he said and you knew that you had to look like a deer caught in headlights.
“English?”, he asked again.
You nodded slowly.
“Lost?”, he replied calmly. His accent still strong.
You smiled nervously, tucking a stray piece of hair behind your ear. “Yea, I got separated from the people I came with”.
He nodded and stuck his lip out just slightly. “You’re new here aren’t you”?
You bit your lip. “Yea. I’m from Canada”, you said sheepishly.
That evoked a smile. “So you like hockey?”, he seemed eager with his question.
“Pft. Of course I like hockey. I love hockey, hell I almost breathe hockey!”, you said with a laugh. He let out a chuckle.
“Come with me”, he tilted his head in the direction he wanted you to go.
“I don’t think I should”, you said shyly. He held his hand out and his lip curled slightly.
“Am I scary”?
You looked up at him through your lashes. “No”.
“Come”, he told you. He wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
“I don’t even know who you are. You could murder me or something”, you muttered.
He sighed and sat on the small bench beside you. “I could. But I rather take you to locker room”.
His bag plopped on the floor with a quiet thud. You swallowed a lump in your throat. “So your a player”?
He nodded. In fact. He did look familiar to you. “You look familiar. I know you from somewhere”, you squinted your eyes at him. You thought hard.
His brow raised again. “Do you”?
“Wait a second, turn your head”, you said lifting your hand to almost touch his face. He looked confused but complied. Your jaw dropped.
“Kaapo Kakko”, you whispered.
He smiled. It was an awkward Finnish smile and was closer to a straight line. But a smile nonetheless.
He leaned into your ear. “Who are you”?
“Is that really important?”, you smirked.
He bit the inside of his cheek. “Yea I want to take you out”.
“I don’t know if I should. Your a high profile person right now. All eyes are on you and I’m a private person”, you said passively.
“What can I do”? He smiled and leaned in closer.
“You have to win the championship”, you said matter of factly.
He smirked. “I do that easy”.
“Then do it”, you teased.
He suddenly turned really awkward. You could actually really relate to it. “How will I find you after match”? He seemed worried.
“I’ll meet you here. Win or loose”, you said gently. “I promise”, reassuring him.
He relaxed. “Go find your seat”, he said nudging your shoulder before grabbing his bag and starting to walk to his destination.
“Wait!”, you shouted. He stopped and turned on his heel. You hurried close to him and grabbed his biceps. “Good luck”, you whispered. You stood on your top toes to kiss his jaw. He went red.
You turned swiftly before he could say anything and went to look for Aada and Hale. You looked for 30 minutes before getting a call from an unknown number. “Hello”?
“Hey where are you”? It was Hale.
“I’m by the concessions, where are you guys”? You heard him let out a sigh of relief.
“Why didn’t you call?”, he accused.
“The number you gave me isn’t yours. You must of messed up a number because I called it and it was someone else”, you explained.
“If you say so”, he said reluctantly. “Come down to the rink, games starting soon”. He hung up quick.
You rolled your eyes and made your way. People were finding their seats. You knew you were front row so it wasn’t super hard.
You saw Aada and made your way to her. He boys were skating on for warmups. You made it to the glass and Aada looked up at you. “Where did Hale go?”, you questioned.
“Bathroom”, was her simple reply. You nodded and sat down.
You watched the boys skate on the ice. 24 caught your eye quick. He looked around the rink, looking for something. People stood up and got close to the glass, hoping to be recognized by one of the players. You and Aada walked up and she smiled. She loved hockey, almost more then her husband but she would never say it.
Kakko looked in your direction and made eye contact. He smiled and skated over to the glass. Maneuvering himself around other players and pucks. He bumped into the glass where you were. Aada’s eyes went wide.
“Pay attention would ya”, you teased. He laughed and put his helmet against the glass and blew on the glass. It fogged and he tried to draw something. He wouldn’t take his glove off so the small drawing looked like a mess. Aada’s jaw dropped as she watched the interaction. The people around you looked shocked.
He made a pouty face at the random scrawl on the glass. “What’s that supposed to be loser”, you smiled.
“I’ll show you who’s a loser”, he shouts back with a grin. He remained in your area for the rest of warm ups. Aada was quiet for the rest of warm ups. She looked upset but you couldn’t tell if that was just her face or if she was actually mad. Hale showed up soon after that. People whispered about you and it confused him.
You and Hale talked and talked until the game started. And it was rough. Finland managed to come back in the shoot out winning 5-4.
Finland advances to the semi-finals. They cheered and cheered. Hale was happy. Aada... not so much. Aada got up to go to the restroom, leaving you and Hale. “Um do you think I could stay a little longer?”, you asked.
He shrugged. “Sure. Aada and I are going to grab some drinks”, he kissed your forehead and left.
You felt like a little girl on Christmas waiting upstairs on the bench. You were giddy, hands clammy, cheeks red. It was getting late. Hale texted to see if you needed a ride home or if you were getting a cab. You knew Aada was freaking out at him right now but you said you’d walk.
It felt like forever. It had actually been over an hour that you had been waiting. Almost two hours actually. You were frustrated and felt played at this point. You wanted to cry and scream. However, you just grabbed your bag. He wasn’t coming and you had to accept that. You wiped your eyes dry before you heard it. “I’m sorry”!
You looked up to see an exhausted Kakko.
You glared. “I know your a superstar and shit. But I’ve been waiting for over an hour. I know all about post game interviews and celebrations, but two hours is a little insane don’t you think!?”, you snapped.
He looked uncomfortable. “Were you crying?”, he said quietly.
You took in a deep breath. “Matter of fact, I was. I knew this was stupid. I knew I was being stupid. Congrats on the win. I’m leaving”.
His shoulders fell along with his expression. Now you felt selfish. He should be happy after the win. They played hard for that win.
“I’m sorry”, he repeated. You sighed loudly. Your head was hung low as you walked over to him. You wrapped your arms around his torso and put your head on his chest.
“I’m more sorry. I was just a brat I’m sorry”, you mumbled. That was really Canadian of you, you thought to yourself.
He put his hands on your waist. “You’re tired. It is okay”, he muttered.
“You know what? I am tired”, you said yawning. “I should get back”, you told him.
He grabbed your forearm. “I’ll walk you there, where are you staying”?
It made you smile. You told him the hotel, only to find out he was at the same one. The walk wasn’t far either. “I need number”, he informed you.
“What if I don’t wanna give it to you yet”?
He chuckled. “I know what hotel you’re at. I’ll find you”, he said with a wink. You snorted and put your head on his shoulder. This was nice.
The hotel was gorgeous, and the elevator was lavish. You scrunched your nose at the marbled floor. It was so nice in the hotel. They probably used gold utensils.
In the elevator you exchanged numbers with Kaapo. You were both on the same floor, just down the hall from each other. You made a mental note to not tell Hale that.
Everything else blurred together in your tired state. You had the room key and jiggled it around. The light went green and the door unlocked with a click. You smiled and walked into the room.
You were ready for whatever this was with Kaapo. You were not prepared for the look Aada and Hale gave you when you walked into the hotel room.

Yo while we’re all having a grand time thinking about Sidney Crosby’s voice, can I just say that one of the most wonderful things that has been laid upon my ears on this mortal plane is Sidney Crosby’s Special Talking Softly To Kids Voice.
Case in point, the latter part of this video where he’s showing his Cup rings to a little kid:
