Maomao’s Type /j

Jinshi’s always on guard against love rivals (the muscular Lihaku, the scholarly Rikuson), but he doesn’t realize his true enemy has been right there all along. In the Inner Palace!

Maomao’s type is canonically the quack doctor.

Confirmed in Volume 5 of the light novel.

When Chou-u gets commissioned to draw Maomao’s ideal man, the portrait ends up resembling the quack doctor:

Not too tall (doesn’t want to strain her neck looking up)

Not too thin, has a bit of meat on her bones (doesn’t want scrawny type that will have her be accused of not feeding him)

Little to no facial hair (sees thick facial hair as potentially communicating filth, gets annoyed looking at badly groomed men with

Soft face (doesn’t want anyone with a sharp, cunning fox face: see Lakan, certified monocle freak)

Who is on the shorter side, chubby, grew a thin loach mustache, and has a soft face (droopy eyebrows)? Quack doctor checks all her boxes!

Plus, he is (technically, somehow) in the medical profession. Similar career goals are good. Sure he might be a quack, but he does provide access to the medical office!

And he gives out tasty snacks! Maomao loves food. They both love eating. Shared hobbies are important.

Sorry Jinshi, Guen is the official love interest. Quack doctor FTW!

Guen, this is why Maomao calls you the Quack Doctor! Why is Maomao the one creating an ointment for YOUR patient in YOUR medical office?

He might as shut down the place down and reopen it as a tea house. He does seem to do a lot more tea brewing and snack serving than actual medicine creation…

This man is so silly. How did he end up on this career path? I really do wonder how he managed to get certified, even if they were desperate for someone to fill the position…
