Like idk, I just think it's important to push back on these smaller concessions. I know some will look at me defending the right for cartoonists to sneak a sex joke into the background of their Nickelodeon show as suspect, as an eyebrow raising way to spend my free time, but that's exactly what those narratives bank on, on you being too worried about the optics of asking for evidence of harm.
"Controversial opinion apparently but I don't think you should put your fetishes in children's shows" let's ignore how implausible it would be to enforce such a thing, as if what people find funny and what people can find horny are wholly distinct - why? What material harms come to a child who unwittingly encounters inflation in the context of an entirely sfw cartoon? Bare feet tickling? Burping? Someone tied to a chair? Who is harmed by this and how? Be specific.
And if you're like well, it just makes me uncomfortable - so what? Without a component of measurable or at least identifiable damage, why should your discomfort dictate what other people can and cannot create? Why does your comfort trump anothers? Why should the discomfort of an imagined threat hold clout?
Like there's zero benefit in conceding to illusions of child endangerment. All it does is reinforce the idea that outside forces are desperately (yet inscrutibly) trying to groom your kids, that they can never ever ever truly be safe

Florida school boards just foaming at the mouth for white savior revisionist history propaganda are completely unprepared to learn anything close to the truth of American (not USA, but specifically North and South and Meso American) history. One single 100 level history class at any reputable (read: non Floridian (save New College, love you, go Null Sets)) history class.
This country was stolen from Indigenous people, and built on the backs of slaves.
Denying that history is absolutely disgusting. So many suffered. You can deny it all you like. But it doesn't erase the pain or the history.

Saw this post and the tags while listening to WTNV. Friend? Friend.
idea: a dating app but only for people who listen to the same podcasts as i do & have the same niches (with the same energy and fixation level) but instead of dating we become so very very platonically close and hyperfixate together in real life & start a merch store tgt & wear them ourselves like theyre friendship bracelets
i am totally not lonely in this island. (all my friends can’t relate and i suck at convincing them to listen)

The story out of Kansas is terrifying and more people need to realize it.
The police tried to silence the press using violence.
This is worse than everyday fascist rhetoric. This is worse than just racists marching in the streets. This is as scary a news story as I have ever read.
An armed government agency decided it didn't like the way journalists were using the first amendment and used violence to make them obey.
A government agency attacked the Fourth Estate. Do you know why journalists and the press are called the Fourth Estate? It's an old term, nineteenth century old. The three estates of the realm were the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners. The estates were later understood to be the three branches of government, legislative, executive, and judicial. The fourth estate wasn't always the press, however, in modern times it is understood that a government and society writ large can not survive without a healthy and free press.
Let me say that again:
A society can not survive without a free press.
The enforcement branch of the government decided they didn't like what the press were reporting. We will likely find out more as the story progresses, but we already know they lied to the judge. They did not subpoena whatever they were looking for. They broke in, they stole, and an old woman is dead because of the stress they caused her.
Even if they walked in calmly, if they never drew a weapon, if they didn't raise their voices, if the journalists thanked them as they left, the very presence of the armed enforcement wing of the executive is inherently a threat. What they did is a threat to journalism, and by extension the constitution, and by extension the entire fucking country.
If we don't throw the book at these criminal police then fascists all across the country will start attacking local news agencies.
If you thought the talk of "fake news" was scary and dangerous, pay attention, because this is their next step.
They are going to tear down the concept of a free press if we don't stop them.
Fascists always attack the press and the creative industries first. Nobody is safe if this is allowed. The fascists will take over and nobody will be around to report it. No matter your opinion about any individual newspaper or press agency, if police can march in and seize computers and reporting materials, if they can ignore the constitution, then nothing is sacred and nobody is safe from the pigs.
ACAB exists for a fucking reason. ACAB means every cop supports the machine. ACAB because a cop would sooner shoot you than listen to you. ACAB because every cop thinks they're better than you.

In Pinned Post, sound of fury should be sound of freedom
You're 100% right. I have fixed it. I think I was thinking about the sound of my own fury bouncing around in my own head lol

why the movie "the sound of freedom," is bullshit we need to keep an eye on
i need yall to know that the sound of freedom movie is being called qanon shit because it perpetuates qanon lite and holds up the pipeline to average people. it's only in theaters now rather than years ago when it was produced, because qanon has created a fervent audience for it. the fervent audience is now a counter to the fact that the studios involved in its production were swayed from releasing it by experts in child trafficking who informed them of the misinformation it would spread. this movie not only sensationalizes child trafficking, it also simplifies what leads to child trafficking in a way that creates a false perception of how it happens at all, especially by depicting children exclusively being kidnapped by strangers rather than the more common situations where kids trust their abusers and come to depend on those who exploit them in exchange for housing, food, and drugs that traffickers often force their victims into dependency. it even fails to acknowledge the fact that most (67%) child trafficking victims are between 15 and 17, most often queer kids kicked out of their homes by parents, with a majority of young child victims being sold into slavery to pay off debts or in exchange for drugs by their own parents. sound of freedom turns perpetuators of child trafficking into anonymous villains and implies complicity in government, especially liberal government figures, rather than focusing on the parents who kick out their kids or neighbors who groom those parents and take in their troubled teens and send them somewhere no one cares enough about to investigate until they're completely missing. "raising awareness" of child trafficking is a noble goal, but relying on the terrifying shock of toddlers being assaulted rather than dissecting the systemic ways children are coerced and exploited muddies the waters and makes us directionless and afraid, with mysterious figures implied to be the real source of the problem (hint: when a movie has vague, powerful monsters instead of the real villain being the deeply entangled web of multi-system failures, there's a 50/50 shot the audience will stumble into "its the jews fault," while attempting research outside the conventional sources films like these say are controlled by "the media, re: the jews again." that's the whole point of the vagueness and instilling mistrust in reputable news outlets and academia.)
furthermore, the film is based on and vindicates tim ballard, a guy who quit his effective but not-so-action-packed work against child pornography with the cia, to go to south america and document himself "saving" people from human sex trafficking in colombia and haiti. ask anyone who works in trafficking prevention and they'll have some THINGS to say about this guy, they fucking HATE tim ballard! "but why?" you may ask. the answer is that he thinks things stop existing when not in direct line of sight. mr. ballard failed to think about how the extenuating circumstances surrounding these survivors, such as debt, drugs, poverty, and housing. as such, almost everyone tim "rescued," from trafficking wound up right back where they were within a handful of years. tim is also a proponent of the qanon conspiracy theory and fully believes that children are being molested and drained of blood by a secret kabal of wealthy elites to harvest their adrenochrome. this conspiracy theory has deep roots in one of the longest-standing antisemitic conspiracy theories on earth about jewish people stealing away christian/white children to drink their blood or use it for dark magic, aka blood libel.
this movie is designed to make its viewer fall down the rabbit hole of disinformation and qanon. its star, jim cavizeel (aka jesus from passion of the christ) has completely fallen down that rabbit hole since filming the damn thing, and cites the sound of freedom as the lynchpin in his journey there.
the sound of freedom is not worth your time, but it is worth your time to learn why this movie is sensationalized propaganda so that you can refute it.
