Just Aotake Dorm Room Things!

I don’t know why it took me this long for something this obvious to click, but it only became apparent to me 11 episodes in that the Aotake squad always held their drinking parties in Room 201, aka the Twins’ room. It should’ve been obvious because it was stated that the twins have the largest room (and implied that Kakeru’s welcoming party was held there). And even if this wasn’t said, if the twins had only moved in ten days before Kakeru, it’s not a stretch to assume the biggest room would’ve been used as a communal area for its residents to gather while it was still vacant. And now that this has been established as canon fact, I can’t unsee all those other visual cues that have been there all this time: The soccer ball. The two sets of futon, towels, tees & sweaters. And of course the wall posters of the pin up girl and soccer players.

And so, a new muse has been found.

(Pages 497~503)

“Your name, it really suits you.”

Kakeru was puzzled. He didn’t understand why Kiyose would suddenly bring this up.

“My dad also used to be in track and field, but he stopped running after he graduated high school and started working.”

“Was he the one who pushed you to run?”

“No, not really.”

Kakeru only began to sense his father’s expectations of him when he entered high school and immersed himself in track and field. Since quitting the high school track club he had gotten in on a sports-recommendation, he and his dad had barely spoken to each other. Even when they qualified for the Hakone ekiden, Kakeru had not contacted his father at all.
