Are we allowed to use A5 exercise books?
Hey there!
Hope you had an amazing holiday. A5 books are definitely allowed! It’s your preference unless your teacher has specifically told you that you need a certain size. :)
Hope this helps,

6 Steps in Learning to Love Yourself
1. See the good in your past. There will always be things that we wish had never happened; there will always be bad memories and things that we regret. But they are part of who you are – so accept that they have happened and celebrate the person they’ve allowed you to become.
2. Invest time in the things that bring you happiness. It’s important to identify the things that you enjoy, and that make you come alive, and are all a part of “you”. Spending time on those things will help to raise your self-esteem, as you’re valuing yourself when you pursue happiness.
3. Forgive yourself for your mistakes. We all make mistakes - and when we think of them we cringe. But that doesn’t make you any worse than other people. Just try and learn what you can, and then move on with your life.
4. Stop criticising yourself. So often we’re really our own worst enemy. We look for our flaws, and we put ourselves down – instead of being understanding of our own limitations. It’s time to change that behaviour – so start loving yourself.
5. Listen to your instincts and intuitions. If you want to love yourself, you must listen to yourself. Pay attention to those instincts and your instant gut reaction – and trust that you are right when you hear that inner voice.
6. Appreciate your life. Of course there are things that you wish that you could change. But some things are good, and are worth appreciating. So, focus on, appreciate, and make lots of your strengths.

8 Life Lessons
1. Let go of anger. When we erupt in anger we often feel much worse. Hence, it’s better to cool off and to work on staying calm.
2. When people treat you badly it’s rarely “about you”. More often it tells you how that person is feeling, or some other issues that are bothering them.
3. You’re not the only one who has struggled with this issue – so don’t feel so awful, or put yourself down.
4. Enjoy the good times, and savour every moment as life is a precious gift to be enjoyed.
5. Work and be persistent as it’s worth the slog and pain. In the end it makes a difference as the pay off is success.
6. You need to find a passion and set yourself some goals if you want to go somewhere, and makes something of life.
7. Relationships can teach us so much about ourselves. Both the good and the bad show us who we really are. They reveal what we think, and how we feel, about ourselves – as well as what our values and our expectations are.
8. Don’t put off to tomorrow what you could do today. You’ll achieve so much more if you push full steam ahead. And easing off too much sows the seeds of laziness. You’ll have much more self respect if you achieve more than you’d planned.

Hey, like someone said before abt year 9 camp, around how many people didn’t go on the 15km yr 9 bike ride? Also is a dress 5cm above my knee appropriate for school?
Hey,
I don’t know exact numbers as to how many people didn’t go on the bike ride on Year 9 camp but I do recall at least two people from my class didn’t know how to ride a bike so it might be a few per activity group? From memory, our activity groups were a mix of students from different forms.
As for dress length, the hem should be at the knee or just above the knee so it should be okay if it is 5 cm above the knee but just be mindful and aware that some teachers may point out if they believe your dress is too short. Hopefully this will be officially clarified once you start school.

Hey FAM :) I'm in year 9, and I recently received my subject selections for next year. I put Bio Unit 1 as my free choice elective, but for some reason got my 2nd preference for my arts elective (music performance bleh) instead. I was really keen on doing Bio Unit 1 next year, but it seems like I won't be able to do it. I just wanted to know whether I am allowed to go straight into Bio 3/4 in year 11 without doing Biology Unit 1 or Essential Science in Year 10. Hope this makes sense :) Thanks
Hey,
To get straight to the point, you absolutely can jump straight into Bio ¾ in Year 11 despite not doing a science elective in Year 10. It would of course be helpful to do a semester of science, whatever science that might be, but seeing as the school doesn’t provide mandatory classes in science for Year 10s, everything that you need for science subjects at VCE level will be provided to you. If you would really prefer to study Bio Unit 1 over one of your other electives, definitely try and get in contact with your YLCs to just see whether or not there is an opportunity for you to switch into it.
Hope this helps!FAM xx

Heyyyy, I am a year 9 macrobian (??) next year and was wondering how I could get my books second hand. I don't know any older girls who could sell them to me. Is there like a second hand book sale or something that runs?
Hey!
Congrats on getting in and we hope that your next four years at MacRob are the greatest! Unfortunately the school doesn’t hold an official second-hand book sale, to our knowledge, however we have a student-run facebook group that is designed for buying and selling pre-loved books and some uniform items. The group is called Mac.Rob Blackmarket and may be of use to you. Note that it is an unofficial way of re-selling and purchasing used items but you will often find school resources in good condition at a much cheaper price than rrp.
Hope this helps,FAM xx

whoever has done methods 3/4 please please please share your tips, im so scared for next year:((((like, what got you through it and how do you stay motivated and committed?
Hey there,
FAM Member 1: First off, it’s super okay to be scared or nervous but trust me when I say you’ve got this and I believe in you!
For me, methods was not one of my favourite subjects which was actually quite disappointing as maths was a subject I used to really enjoy. I hate to say it, but I do think my teacher had a great impact on my learning experience and thus my motivation when it came to methods.
If I had any advice to give in terms of motivation and commitment it would be to envision a goal or an endpoint that you want to reach at the end of the year in terms of this subject (this can apply to any subject really) and then come up with ways to get there. For example, before I started Year 12, I wrote a list on how I planned to ‘Slay VCE’ where I wrote down each of my subjects and little things I should remember throughout the year. For methods I had things like: ask questions, stay up to date, write out examples and difficult questions you come across, constantly add to reference booklet, etc.
The only problem was that this list was in my notes on my phone and so I didn’t do nearly half the things I set out to. I suggest that, if you do this, to write it out physically or print it out and stick it up somewhere that you’ll always see it, maybe above your desk or something like that because I assure you that is the only way this will work and I’m regretful that I didn’t do this myself.
Remember that you’re in the same boat as your classmates and most people around you so if you’re feeling lost or confused, chances are there are others who feel the same way so don’t be afraid to ask your friends and of course ask your teacher. One thing that got me through most of VCE was the knowledge that I wasn’t the only one struggling and that I knew my friends could relate with me and that we could make each other feel better about whatever was going on. You don’t know how people are doing unless you ask and this doesn’t need to concern grades or marks or anything, just simply talking about how you feel about the subject and/or the content at different points in time might help you to find peace whether you’re in Year 11 or Year 12.
Best of luck!

what is going from year 10 to vce like? does the workload increase that much because I'm already struggling with the amount of work we get?
Hey there,
FAM Member 1: In my experience, although it’s a seemingly big jump from year 10 to year 11, you’re integrated quite smoothly into VCE and you quickly adapt to your situations.
Reflecting on Year 9 and 10, I was a major stress-head so moving into VCE was incredibly daunting for me just as I feel like it is for you. The reality is that a lot of people will be feeling this way and that it’s normal to be nervous. Just know that you’re not alone in it.
I realised after a little while that, whilst there were seemingly more things to stress about in VCE, my level of stress over four years seemed to be relatively the same. This obviously isn’t the best thing but what I want to share with you is that the reason I didn’t feel more stress was because with time I was able to cope better with it. So whilst there might’ve been more to stress about, I was also better at dealing with it and whilst the level of stress may have remained at a similar point in previous years, I definitely felt much better about it despite all the things around me that could’ve stressed me out.
When you’re focused on what’s in front of you, you may not notice the magnitude of the workload. That isn’t to say that VCE isn’t overwhelming because at times it definitely can be. Just remember to, whenever you’re in these times, take a step back and look at how far you’ve come and be proud of it!Good luck!FAM xx

hey! what kind of extracurricular activities can you do if you dont have any talent in music, sports or debating???
Hey there!
No matter what level of skill you think you have in music, sports, debating, or anything else, if it’s something you want to do, go for it! However, if these aren’t really your thing, getting involved in house activities might be your next best bet. When it comes to house, everybody has the capacity to be involved and when you’re not really sure what suits you best, your house captains will be super accommodating as there is nothing better than to see people get involved!
You may also like to get involved in volunteering events which aren’t exactly extracurricular in a sense BUT it’s super fun, a great experience, and you get to help out people who are less fortunate than you.
All the best,FAM xx

Hi FAM I'm slightly stressed. I have a 1/2 subject that I'm currently not that great at and I don't know if I should continue it next year because it gets even harder. My family have suggested I do tutoring but I feel like it's expensive and I really want to provide that I can do it myself. Is my pride going to be my downfall? Problem is if I don't continue with it, I'm not sure what I could replace it with. Can you recommend some 3/4s that don't need 1/2? Good luck with exams!
Hey there,
This sounds super tough and we wish you all the best in whatever you choose in the end. Remember that ultimately it is your education and it is your choice.
If you enjoy the subject, chances are you’re going to be more motivated and work harder regardless of how tough it is and if you need an extra hand with tutoring then so be it. However, if the difficulty of the subject is taking over the enjoyment of it and the cons are overruling the pros, perhaps it’d be worth considering other subjects in its place that you might enjoy more.
Some subjects that don’t require ½ include: Accounting, History: Revolutions, Economics, Health and Human Development, Geography, Psychology, Biology
Hopefully this helps!FAM xx
