Woke up with Saltburn brainrot taking up all my brain capacity so here’s some of my unhinged thoughts:

• Felix is a terrible fuck… but only after Oliver starts watching him through his window. He used to be the best fuck anyone could ever have; focused, attentive and doing everything for his partners pleasure because he absolutely got off on the praise that came with being absolutely fantastic in bed. Felix made fucking an art form… and then Oliver came along and made him the worse fuck imaginable. Oliver who takes up all his headspace and singlehandedly got rid of any “attentive lover” rumours dancing around Felix because all Felix can think about when getting off is Oliver’s pretty, blue, please fuck me eyes. Oliver who is absolutely watching Felix through his window and completely ruining his rhythm and oh fuck he’s gonna cum-

• Farleigh will never like Oliver… but he would do absolutely anything to have another night with him. Farleigh may be a pansexual switch, prone to threesomes and sleeping with professors, but one thing no one is confused about is that he’s in control in the bedroom. When Oliver snuck into his room Farleigh had absolutely no control, and the crazy part is that he liked it. He liked Oliver overpowering him and making demands of him. He liked his pleasure being in Oliver’s hands, and he liked how quickly he submitted. He wanted Oliver to have all the control over the situation, and he wanted Oliver to wreck him. Even after all the Cattons are long gone, Farleigh still craves Oliver’s attention. It’s dangerous. It’s addictive. Farleigh could never submit to anyone else.

• Felix and Oliver making out all over Oxford (everyone pretending not to see them because what the fuck?)

• The Cattons become ghosts at Saltburn when they die, and my word does it get terribly dull. It wasn’t so bad when the last of the Catton bloodline was alive; there were great parties, a roster of interesting people always in and out of the place, and the drama was relatively entertaining… Oliver was the most interesting thing to happen to Saltburn in centuries. The Catton family should’ve hated the man, but holy shit he was a total firecracker. The ghosts of Saltburn never felt more alive then when Oliver wrecked absolute havoc on their family. Following Oliver around became prime entertainment and betting pools were formed on his very first day. When Felix died he was met with a round of applause for singlehandedly reviving the Catton ghosts entertainment bank. When Sir Catton died he was shunned to months of silence for kicking out the best thing to ever infiltrate the Saltburn manor. When Elspeth brought Oliver back the betting pool was up and running again in seconds. The Cattons brought tickets to Oliver’s Monologue (2022). There was popcorn and Felix’s great great great grandmother took notes. After the great monologue of 2022 things died down quite quickly, but there was still moments of entertainment that made it all worth it. Oliver’s Dance (2024) might as well have been an Oscar winning performance. Farleigh’s Return (2030) was talked about for years. Felix’s Great Sulk (2006-2022) was a heavily documented tragedy. (the ghosts started spending most of their time outside after Felix began spending all his time following Oliver around and trying to find a way to make him family so the two of them could be together forever)

erm thoughts on an ollie edit to creep by radiohead

Funniest thing Farleigh ever asked Oliver was "How did you know it was me?". Like my god Farleigh, how many 6'5 black guys do you think the cattons know enough to invite to a party? It's literally only you, my guy. Oliver isn't sherlock holmes lol "signet ring" my ass, you just wanted to sound smarter bitch boy you can't fool me.

Also, Farleigh you were literally all up in Olivers guts JUST the night before, Ollie could've probably identified you by smell alone.

It really is fascinating how I see so much discussion about Felix's savior complex and how angry he becomes as a result of it when Oliver is exposed as a liar. This is such a huge moment of character development for Felix, I love how everyone sees it so differently. It's interesting because while I definitely see Felix as being drawn to and even turned on by Oliver's trauma, I don't think it has as much to do with the actual substance and specifics of Oliver's lies (Felix says "you lied to me Ollie why would you lie?" As opposed to "why would you lie ABOUT your parents and your childhood?" which I think speaks to this). Moreover, i see Felix's arousal and interest as stemming more from the emotional intimacy he felt with Oliver while he was sharing those stories. I think Oliver's lies about being poor and having drug addicted parents could have been substituted with countless other traumatic stories and they would have all had the same effect on Felix. I do think the fact that Oliver paints himself as being VERY much so less fortunate than him helps Felix feel needed by Oliver in a way he feels confident he can actually fulfill (through finances, offering him a temporary home at Saltburn, etc). Felix is very excited by feeling needed; after all - Felix has been fulfilling people's needs his entire life! Honestly I'd go as far as to say his entire existence was framed around fulfilling his parents' need for a male heir to Saltburn to carry on the Catton legacy.

So when he finds out the truth he IS angry. He's angry that all these intensely intimate feelings he's had with Oliver have been based on lies. He's angry that Oliver betrayed his trust and basically put on an elaborate ruse to emotionally manipulate him over the last 6 months. He's angry that maybe Oliver never really needed him after all. He's also ashamed and embarrassed that he fell for it. We even see Elspeth admonishing him for always seeing the good in everyone when Oliver first meets his family, it's literally one of the first things we hear her say LOL. I think it's safe to say Felix had been criticized in the past for his willingness to believe the things that people tell him instead of drowning in cynicism and emotional detachment from reality like his cold, blue blooded parents.

And im definitely not saying Felix is totally absolved of his flaws here, either. It was a horrible, but arguably ultimately naive, idea to bring Oliver back to his drug addict mother's house for his birthday considering what that could actually look like had Oliver been telling the truth. HOWEVER I do think it's important to point out Felix's feelings about Oliver's lies weren't solely because he jerks off to helping a poor drug addict's son (I know I joke about this all the time LOL). Imo the real money shot for Felix I think was always the emotional intimacy of Oliver sharing his trauma with him and the subsequent relationship they built off of those vulnerable moments, as opposed to Felix just wanting Oliver because he thought of his trauma as fascinating novelty for him.
