Poison Princess (Book Review)
Tumblr media
Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
YA Fantasy + Paranormal w/ Romance
I read this book back in 2013 and wrote a review for it then, but after rereading it I realized how much my feelings have changed (for the better). Firstly, I want to mention that the concept of this book is brilliant. Incorporating Tarot cards and basing characters of them is so awesome! I absolutely love it!
I don't know if I just missed some information reading the book the first time or I just forgot a lot of important stuff, but rereading this book I learned so many new things about the characters and this world. I appreciate Kresley Cole's concept so much more this second time around and I connected with Evie on a whole new level as well. I can see how at first people may be turned off by her behavior, but as the story progressed she really grew on me and developed into a really likable character. Jack who I actually really liked the first time around, really did not appeal to me this time. I honestly could not stand him. He was really defensive and jumped to conclusion all them time. He also acted like he was so much better than Evie. Yes, he was better suited for an apocalypse than she was, and he helped her great deal through the course of the novel, but he didn't have to put her down all the time and behave so rudely towards her. Throughout the story you can see small glimpses of his controlling side but near the end is when it really came out. Overall, I didn't really like his personalty and behavior (especially his constant drinking!) Matt is still my favorite character, with Evie and Fin coming in as close second favorites. Matt's so mysterious and funny, and he doesn't deal with Jack's crap and pissy attitude. Plus his powers is freaking awesome! Selena I didn't really like the first time around, but this time I couldn't help feel neutral about her. I'm a little wary of her just because she seemed to be hiding something the entire time, and there's so little we know about her; however, she has a pretty badass power and is somehow associated with moon which is pretty cool. Honestly Selena and Jack should just end up together. They are literally made for each other! Why would Jack want to be with Evie anyway when he's got his match drooling for him? Relationships work better when the two people have common interests, and Jack and Evie have literally nothing in common. Anyway, those are my thoughts on the book. I think the storyline, characters, and the concept are so brilliant that they make up for Jack's annoyingness, easily allowing me to give this book a five star rating. I highly recommend this book!

2015 Reading Resolutions
I decided to give myself a few reading goals this year. I kind of did that last year, but I didn't like the set up; so this year I'm going to change things up a bit.
1. I want to read 30 books this year. (I read 55 last year, but I feel like that number was a lot of pressure to achieve. I don't want to feel like I'm forcing myself to read because of some goal, so setting up something obtainable makes it more enjoyable, especially since I've been a lot busier lately)
2. I want to finish 5 series by the end of this year. (I finished eight last year so I think I can reach this goal)
3. I want to review every single book read this year. (I didn't so good with that last year)
4. I want to keep up with all my most anticipated new releases.
5. I want to read at least one adult novel by the end of this year.
I think writing my goals will help me stick with my resolutions. I'm super excited about this year and everything it will bring! Happy New Year everyone!

My favorite thing about hardcover books is that no matter how dirty the actual book gets you can just put the dust jacket back on and stick it on the shelf and pretend that it never happened.

What confuses me about YA
Is how people love how Rick Riordan keeps expanding his universe
And everyone wants J.K Rowling to expand hers
But Cassandra Clare announces at least 3 more Shadow Hunter series and people keep giving her shit for not being original

Does anyone else literally get stressed when picking which book to read next or is it just me who does that?
