I. Story and world view

Rifttale's timeline takes place after monsters in the underworld. Gaster decides to change the monster, so he starts experimenting with a plan: how to create more powerful souls and monsters.

But instead of telling ASGORE about the experiment, he started to fuse the monster with soul fragments under the pretext of creating a core. Following is his choice of his two sons, Sans and Papyrus, for the experiment.

The tragedy of it all is that this experiment, which has failed so many times that ASGORE becomes suspicious of it, has so many souls stored in the secret Chambers of the throne.

Unfortunately papyrus has absorbed so many pieces of soul that it has melted into a mass. But Gaster is nothing to me. But sans nearby is also completely decayed due to the experiment.
