The fact that Blackthorne turned out to be a total red herring may be my favorite way that Shōgun subverted expectations.
Because the show followed his journey, we assumed he would have some greater importance as part of Toranaga's eventual victory. Maybe he would have come to the rescue, heroically using his ship and the guns to attack Osaka castle, giving him prime of place as an ally and as a vital part of Toranaga's plan.
In the end, though, Toranaga had Blackthorne's ship destroyed — and was prepared to destroy any others he might build. Blackthorne himself turned out to be a funny foreign distraction, unimportant to the cause beyond just making headaches for Toranaga's enemies, kept around simply because he made Toranaga laugh.

I know we use vibes too liberally but just gonna say it - Hybe is bad vibes. Not the artists per se but the execs. I read the transcript for that press conference and the kkt messages and both bang pd and min hee jin (and park jiwon probably) are weirdos. 🛴 is already famous for being a scumbag. In the current situation, I believe both of them are telling the truth about the other being awful. A situation with no good guys.
On the other hand Bangtan waking up to find out they've been hexed by a shaman is kind of funny ngl. Thinking about them in that company full of snakes isn't good but all labels sound terrible. No wonder even big stars like Taemin, GD, Lisa and Jennie leave to smaller labels or start their own
Of course Hybe is bad vibes. When hasn't, ever since its establishment? You don't get nice vibes from corporate. They are not anyone's friends, artists are not part of the big family, regardless of any ridiculous rhetoric they put out. People are expendable and they do whatever is possible to reach their goals.
As much as all these statements and messages are absolutely ridiculous, it is a glimpse into how business is done and how it's mostly based on ego. You would think it wouldn't matter who gets to earn more or debut first, as long as both groups (LS and NJ) are generating a lot of money for the corporation anyway. Well, it does matter cause it has to be about one person's plans and vision. We saw that with Jimin. It seems that not even being a BTS member can bring you all the privileges as long as you are probably not favored or part of the plan.

They better release that show by June. There's some footage of jikook shaking their ass on a yacht and we're still waiting.

I can't believe I want/have to say this, cause the topic has been discussed from all possible angles. And still is.
I don't understand why Jimin and Jungkook solos, taekookers or anyone else who has a problem with KM or them separately, have to go to such lengths to "reason" the way they react? Is it so much easier, for everyone, if they just say that they don't like/hate the guy/pair, which is why they don't care about whatever is going on. It saves a lot of energy and time. No need to come up with ridiculous arguments. A simple "I hate X and it bothers me when he is near my fave. And because I hate him, I don't like to read about anything that involves him as well". At least it's honest, straightforward and we all know where we stand. That is the idea underneath all the stupid fighting that has been going on for years. Or the fighting is necessary to feel that their own existence is relevant and it doesn't really have much to do with their faves? Perhaps that's the reason.
But it's getting boring. Same old shit everyday. I would feel sick and tired of myself. Sometimes I do even while writing stuff of my own blog, which is not anywhere near the nonsense and hateful rhetoric that people pour on twitter and anonymously in other people's inboxes.
Grow a pair of balls, just tell it as it is and be done with it once and for all. It doesn't matter anyway. It won't affect those two people. It won't affect their livelihood, their career, their each day and night, their friendship. None of it. So it's a losing battle from the beginning. Full of losers fighting every day.

Counterpoint - swifties actually made me feel a 0.0001% percent better about armys. Armys are bald faced liars who'll say grass is blue if it helps their argument but I still feel most of them are aware they're bullshitting people whereas swifties have crossed the Rubicon to completely believing their made up reality
Idk anon, I feel like swifties and army are the cancer of fandoms currently. At least those more well-know right now. Both insufferable.

Seeing all the memes and jokes about ClubChalamet is a reminder that people can be funny and say stupid shit about celebs and it's a collective understanding that we're all taking the piss. While at the same time, it's also a reminder that opposed to that, kpop stans have no actual sense of humor while they make being "righteous" part of their personality.

I am anxiously waiting for ClubChalamet to make an insane statement about this. Someone needs to check up on her. Is she all right?

I reblogged this Anthony Bourdain image set and somehow I just remembered that I first heard of Korea (or ever seen anything from that place) through him and this travel show he used to have.
It was probably in the first half of the 2000s. I was really too young to know anything, no older than 10-11 years old. But I used to watch his show with my mom. Bourdain would visit a different country each episode and there were things that I had seen or he'd say that stuck with me. Like never thinking that Abba was not a cool band up until he went on a rant about how awful that music is and should be used as torture. To me, Abba at that time meant playful, nice music that for some reason, my dad used to listen to from time to time. Bourdain might have been the first actual hater to witness (before me turning into one once the years passed).
But I could still sense that he was not only a cool guy, but also someone genuinely interested in what he was discovering, without ever feeling any sense of superiority coming from him.
Like I said, I first became aware of Korea through one of his episodes. I still have this image in my head where he is somewhere in the countryside, making kimchi with a group of women. I saw how they added spices and then they would put the cabbage in big jars for fermentation. At that time, I used to hate a lot of vegetables, particularly fermented cabbage and it was a nightmare each time my mom would use it to prepare food. So in my head, kimchi sounded even worse because it was spicy on top of that. I now love kimchi. I have a stash of jars in my fridge always on hand, whenever I need.
In that same episode I found that Korea was split into two. There was North and South and Bourdain was perhaps filming his episode in a village near the border. He was talking to an old man who was telling him that part of his family remained in the North and that even though they are so close geographically, they haven't seen each other in decades. My mind at that age couldn't comprehend that. How could it ever be possible and why did it sound like the most awful thing that could ever happen? It would be years later when I would become more knowledgeable of the world that I was living in. But at that time, I felt like crying. I was looking at that man telling his story and thinking how unimaginable it would be to be separated from my own family.
That was an Anthony Bourdain show for me back then and I guess an essence of his tv work. I knew nothing about food, culture, politics, but it still had an effect on me simply by watching other worlds being presented to me where food was not just something to be used as "fuel" for bodies, but food as a way to tell stories.
