This is the four-string TENOR version of the Rickenbacker Electro-Spanish guitar. Introduced in 1935 at the same time as the famed Bakelite "Model B" Hawaiian Guitar, the Electro Spanish was not successful and in comparatively limited production for just a few years. Today we have a beautiful 1966 Candy Apple Red Fender Electric XII, 12 String Solid Body Electric Guitar in its original black tolex hard shell case! - This is a truly beautiful custom-color example of a Fender Electric XII, finished in the flashy and always-popular Candy Apple Red metallic lacquer. While not one of Leo Fender's best-remembered creations the Electric XII is nonetheless is a superbly engineered, great-sounding and extremely practical 12-string. Introduced at the July 1965 NAMM Show at the dawn of the CBS/Fender era the Fender XII married the popular Jaguar/Jazzmaster style offset body to a new 12-string neck with a distinctive extended "hockey stick" headstock. The neck itself is typically Fender; slim and very comfortable. These are often considered the best-playing electric 12s of the 1960s, and with good reason. This was the top-of-the line, most expensive of the three brand new top-tension banjos which debuted that year. Just arrived a very attractive Collings MF Deluxe Model Carved Top Mandolin (2013), made in Austin, TX, serial # 1531, Cremona Brown Sunburst finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; maple neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case. (Link in our profile). - This is a very clean example of one of the best regarded modern F-5 descendants, the Collings MF Deluxe. The hand-written serial number is #1531 indicating it was built about 10 years ago in 2012, when Bill Collings was still at the helm. It has the traditional Gibson-derived Scroll-body F-5 format with a carved F-hole spruce top echoed by the headstock. The carved one-piece back, sides and neck are beautifully flamed curly maple, with a satin finish, the top and headstock face are thin gloss lacquer. Original brown hard shell case included. - This 1951 example is one of the earliest J-185s made. Only 66 sunburst examples were built during this introductory year, along with 11 in natural. All of these first-year 185s shipped within the last three months of 1951, this one around the beginning of November. This very early model feels slightly lighter in construction compared with later 1950s examples, though it's hard to see specific differences. Just arrived for #gibsunday , an extremely rare 1931 Recording King Model 807 (Nick Lucas Style) Flat Top Acoustic Guitar made by Gibson in Kalamazoo Michigan! (Link in profile). - It was late 1930, the economy was collapsing everywhere. Gibson had parts and tooling set up to build their new improved large-body Nick Lucas Special, priced at $125. This very expensive deluxe flat top suddenly must have seemed VERY hard to sell as the Depression closed in. One solution? Assemble them with a plain headstock and no truss rod, spray them plain black and send them to Montgomery Ward to sell via mail-order catalog. Just arrived an original 1968 Pink Paisley Fender Telecaster Bass. Made in Fullerton, California, serial # 251376, pink paisley metallic paper with overcoat of clear acrylic finish, ash body, maple neck, original black tolex hard shell case. - This infamous and fabulous looking bass was one of CBS/Fender's most whimsical ideas in the summer of 1968: putting pink paisley or blue floral wallpaper on Telecasters to catch the "Groovy" 1960's vibe at its late-decade high. The slab-bodied Tele shape worked well (the contoured Strat proved impractical!) and the instruments were released in mid-1968, The Bass does not suffer any loss of function under this colorful livery. "Paisley Red pulsates with every beat and swirls in a blinding carousel of colors and forms" claimed Fender's promotional materials, and who are we to argue. Unfortunately these were not big sellers; the basses were made in smaller quantities than the guitar version, and all were out of production by 1969.
