I was rewatching the show and was reminded of my favorite ever fandom moment.

As soon as we got confirmation of the “Olivia and Yunan” episode, the large majority of people figured that’s when Marcy would be “saved”. Of course we didn’t know this would also be her possession scene. What makes this my favorite fandom moment tho is that for weeks there were all these amazing fan arts and fanfics about them saving Marcy.

And because of this the fandom like, gaslighted themselves into thinking that Yunan and Olivia are to Marcy as the Plantars are to Anne or Grime is to Sasha. So when it was finally aired and revealed that Yunan didn’t even want to save Marcy everyone kinda forgot that they weren’t like that for her.

And I feel like that made watching that episode so much more fun and we have none but ourselves to blame for giving ourselves more emotional whiplash for no reason. And I only noticed this because if you binge the show it’s not out of place lol.

Anyway having listened to Amphibias soundtrack for quite some time since the show ended, I can confidently say that “Heartstopper” really says a lot about how Sasha thinks of herself. And like yeah that’s obvious, she wrote it herself and in real life it was written to match the character and blah blah blah.

But more interestingly is the contrast between how Sasha thinks of herself and how Anne and Marcy think of her. I could write like a whole college essay on this just off of the Heartstopper lyrics but I need to go to sleep and wake up in like 4 hours.

Quick Amphibia Angst thought:

What if when Mr. Littlepot (the Frog Reaper) finally comes for Hop Pop, he (HP) asks that he let Anne know somehow, a chance to let his adopted granddaughter know. Mr. Littlepot is able to transcend realms (he’s Death afterall) and informs Anne. He is allowed to do this because she’s in-line to become a God, i.e. an immortal and one of his many bosses (not to mention she died before then came back and saved countless lives so her status is a bit in flux within the whole being dead thing). Altho’ he cannot return Hop Pop to life he can offer a last few words with his soul.

All of this happens within a split second of reality and when she is snapped back from the mindscape, her face is suddenly streaming with tears at work. Her co-workers cover for her while she goes to the breakroom and gives Sasha and Marcy a call.

Alright so the show is finally over but I still fail to understand one thing. The temples. Even back when the show was airing the temples always seemed a bit off? Having knowledge of the prophecy it makes sense that the heroes can return the power of the stones and leave, that checks out, the math is correct.

But like why are there tests? If the whole thing was set up to return the power to the jewels then why do they have to do life threatening tasks to prove themselves? Also they exist for that reason but how long ago were they built?

Aldrich and co. used the stones to conquer other universes, they didn’t supercharge themselves with the stones powers or anything (to our knowledge). But they seem to know about the temples since once they, Marcy and Anne, find out Andrias goes to the core and says that the prophecy is being undone.

But yeah the tests just don’t make sense to me. Valeriana is the last of an ancient order that studied the stones powers and even runs the Heart tests but like still why is there a test? If they want to study the stones powers wouldn’t it make sense to just be able to give it back? I’m going crazy please send help.

i need to talk about the fact that...what stopped andrias was just. a simple letter of love. not a grand reveal of some secret ex machina. not blackmail. not leif telling him he should've known better.

no. no, it was just - her love. it was her imploring him to not turn into the very thing he did turn to. because despite it all, despite years apart and a friendship that ended up shattered into a thousand little pieces, she remembers him well. remembers him fondly, believes that he's good, that he deserves better than turning into some cruel, unfeeling monster. because she loved him, and never stopped loving either him or barrel, two ghosts that haunted her as she built wartwood from the ground up.

and. and it got him to stop, for a moment. got him to crumble, to allow a thousand years' worth of feelings to barrel (ha) through.

it was enough to do that. but andrias was right - it was too late.

the things he's done are unforgivable, the person he's become too...unflexible and broken. i sincerely hope he dies in the next episode, if he hasn't already. but this moment - this shred of humanity - is so, so important. because the most powerful thing isn't a weapon, or immorality, or lacking any emotion. the most powerful thing is love. love in the moment, or the echo of it - that's what breaks and builds. and i don't mean romantically! love and change are the core (ha!) of amphibia! as my dear friend @bloop-arts put it: love is the driving force behind every character! love pushed anne into harnassing her powers for a longer time! love and her inherent nature of wanting to protect drove sasha to defeat darcy! love had the plantars facing their worst nightmare in order to save the boonchuys! love and the belief she had in her friends pushed marcy into refusing the core! love!

even when it was too late, love managed to save. and i think that alone makes this episode a complete masterpiece, at least to me.

Also maybe I’m just slow but I’m only just now realizing that “the night” in the prophecy didn’t refer to the core but the literal night brought by the moon crashing into Amphibia.

Which makes that period of time we were calling the Core, the Night, that much funnier.
