the power of scent

It has always been one of the most significant interests of my life how powerful scent is when it comes to reminding us of something, someone, or some periods in our life.

I was studying in a college in Helena, Montana for my study abroad program for the past 9 months, and now, these two bottles of oil - I was using it as perfume though - that I got in downtown Helena hold my whole memory of Montana. it takes only one second for this smell of “Green tea” to bring me back to my dorm room which is over 8000 miles away from my room back home. 

It is fascinating, yet annoyingly brutal, sometimes. every time a particular scent catches me, it pulls me back to a vivid memory that was sitting quietly somewhere in my brain, and from that moment my mind is completely occupied by the bittersweet feelings. even the same smell hits differently depending on what stage of life I am in. 

While we can restore what we did by taking photos/videos, it’s almost scary how deeply smells can be attached to very raw emotions of us and can trigger us with so much more significant power than photos/videos. I'm totally obsessed with this magic.
