Most annoying part about this whole situation is now I'm stuck seeing takes like "maybe we WERE too mean to staff" and "you know, paying for the subscription wouldn't be so bad" as if the only problem people have with this site is like, tumblr live and the odd annoying ui change.

i was talking to one of my coworkers about my trip and she asked me where i was going and i said austria and she looked at me all confused and then she said “like…austria-hungary?” and i wasn’t quite sure how to break it to her

Noted, I mean just glancing over your feed seems to show me most of the things I thought I was missing. I just always felt like there should be more of these conversations and more more people having them, compared to some features and some which make less money even, I don't see the same widespread attention or the attention that avatar deserves
What is going on with james camerons avatar
I saw the way of water tonight and enjoyed it with some caveats but looking at the online discussion you wouldnt think its the sequel to what was for a time the most succesful film ever. There dont seem to be memes outside the “avatar is dumb”, a lot of accounts talking about it feel like bots. the tag on here is simply filled with fanfics as youd expect and conversations about the sully family, some of which feel like they couldve been part of the advertisement being like “which of the sully kids is Your Favourite” only weeks ahead of the release? I feel like theres no curiosity? i watch the films and i think about all these cool creatures i wanna know about, see how the magnetic terrain of pandora creates cool landscapes or how different Na’vi cultures and species might develop differently in different environments. I wanna see what maori and polynesian folks think of the style of facial tattoos, or what native americans think of the similarities to their culture in the omaticaya? Is it cultural appropriation, is it problematic? why is a population which is supposed to be so alien drawing such levels of inspiration from earthly cultures? What about the christlike chosen ones that keep popping up? i see only limited discussion when by all rights there should be lots of conversation about this stuff and it weirds me out, im experiencing a depressing level of confusion over this. Like it has a reputation as a franchise that it exists to look pretty and nothing else, but its not that shallow and there is a good amount of world-building to engage with. Mayhaps the content scarcity over the past decade has hamstrung the series as it picked exactly the right time if it wanted to miss out on the rise of fandom as we understand it now. Just, whats going on?

I just had a pass through the tags I've put on my post, didn't see anything particularly up my alley so casting a wider net might be it

Pantheons in fantasy will almost always be something like “fire deity, water deity, light deity, EVIL deity, GREAT MOTHER” while an average bronze age city’s pantheon was s/t like “deity personifying the city, god everyone has to treat as the main one because his city got geopolitically lucky, three or so personifications of main local sources of income, a nearby mountain, half a dozen incoherent minor deities (at least one is the result of some misspelling a name), deified branding iron”

Fantastic Beasts is suspended indefinitely.
Musk is begging for cash because he made the stupidest purchase in internet history.
Zucky Wucky is hemorrhaging cash because the Metaverse goal of becoming the NFT successor of real estate speculation was met with the deserved mockery at how stupid it was.
Trump is finally being properly prosecuted for crimes he unquestionably and very inconspicuously committed.
Alex Jones owes a billion dollars to Sandy Hook victims.
The Tories are imploding in a schism that might actually result in the collapse of the British empire.
Putin has ran out of army and crawled pathetically to the corner a tiny insurgent army pushed him towards, decades of military propaganda burnt away in months.
Prime Minister Shinzō Abe died with no glory.
The GOP is so confused after the Trump era they don't even know how to run their grifts anymore.
Rings of Power was such a mediocre release Amazon could potentially drop Prime Video altogether.
Turns out 2022 was really the "find out" year. It took a while but I'm loving this season finale so far.

I think Andor (2022) couldn't have existed if Tony Gilroy hadn't seen Goncharov (1973). His love for this movie seems, well, everywhere in the way the themes of Andor are exposed. But above all, you cannot convince me Cinta and Vel do not parallel Sophia and Katya

I can finally say it.
Andor season 1 is the best piece of Star Wars media ever produced.
