#it always amuses me #when someone in a writing group #talks about how they're incapable of finishing projects #because they lose the thread of the story somewhere #or they struggle with connecting parts of the story #and someone suggests they try plotting #but OP whines some variation of “b-but I'm a PANTSER” #like #honey #pantser and plotter #are descriptions of your process #not personality types #if your process has resulted in never finishing anything #well it's a pretty bad process #also most of the time self-proclaimed pantsers #are actually just people that don't know what story structure is #obviously there are real writers who call themselves pantsers #but they usually still have plot skeletons they follow #if you think you don't need to know anything about plot structure to write a novel #that stories are just sequences of events #that following plot beats make stories formulaic or less artistic #Then you know very little about novels
