Alright, to ao3's soon to be arriving Wattpad Refugees, a basic guide to general user culture:

1.) Unlike Wattpads vote system that let's you like each chapter, the ao3 equivalent kudos only allows one per work. Everyone is generally quietly annoyed about this. To engage with each chapter, you're heavily encouraged to comment. Trust me, it makes people's day.

2.) Ao3 has no algorithm. By default it's latest updated work first. You can find things to your taste through searches, filters and tags.

3.) 'No archive warnings apply' and 'user has chosen not to use archive warnings' mean two very different things. No archives warnings means the work is free from any content that could require a warning tag (character death, graphic depictions of violence, non-con, etc). User has chosen not to use archive warnings means it could contain any of the warning content, be it hasn't been explicitly tagged. Treat it like an allergen. No archive warnings apply is allergen free. User has chosen not to use archive warnings, may contain traces or whole chunks of the allergen. If you're likely to have a bad reaction, maybe don't take the risk.

4.) Speaking of warnings, ao3 has very few restrictions on the type of work that's allowed. Whatever your personal thoughts or feelings on that are, thats how the site is. You're likely to run across some dark subject matters and a lot of people are uncomfortable with reading that. You're well within your rights not like these works and have your opinion on whether they should be allowed, but harassing the authors of such works (or any works) is more likely to come back on you than them. Ao3 operates on a strong policy of 'don't like, don't read'. Use the tagging system to your full advantage to only engage with the kind of works you want to see.

(Massive spoilers for Halo: Epitaph)

So I just finished the chapter where we see what really happened to the Didact when he was sent into the burn and I'm having so many thoughts about it that I need to get out, so things might be a little all over the place

HOLY FUCK HALO ISN'T JUST ABOUT THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE, IT'S ABOUT THE PERPETUATION OF GENERATIONAL TRAUMA AND HOW THE WORLD IS FORCED INTO BEING SHIT BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IT'S INHERENTLY THAT WAY BUILDING IT TO BECOME THAT

Just. The revelation that the mantle is designed as a test that everyone is doomed to fail, the ultimate temptation, when we've thought for so long that it was some honourable position that could be earned

And it makes sense!! I don't think the flood are really the result of the precursors being "corrupted" anymore. We already knew that the Primordial was a "regular" precursor and he was fucking pissed, but now I think that the anger was just an act. I think that this was always what the precursors intended, or at least it became their intention. I think that the flood is just what happens when the precursors stopped lying

The gravemind told the Didact that the flood wanted the ark so that they could reseed the galaxy and return later to feast, kind of like the reapers in mass effect. Specifically, it said that they would seed suffering and allow that suffering to flourish and return at its height. So the flood views life and suffering as the same thing, and the precursors might have as well

It always struck me as really odd that this god-species that spanned the galaxy and had an impossibly intricate understanding of the universe could be wiped out by any of their "children". So what if that was the point this whole time?

What I'm getting at here: the flood isn't just the embodiment of vengeance. The flood and the precursors also represent nihilism at its extreme, and how this view being a part of the founding principle of any society (or any family, the forunners and humans and everyone are their children after all) leads to the infliction of trauma that eventually becomes baked into every interaction, and the whole rest of the series is about how people react to and perpetuate this. And how sometimes, in beautiful, small, earth-shattering moments, these people take a step towards escaping this curse

Hello! I just finished reading your story on Geto’s death, with Gojo by his side. All I can say, is that was absolutely beautiful. All my life Ive planned on going into film or writing and I just wanted to say, that, that piece you wrote was just stunning. Stories like those are what inspire me. I’m only 15 now, but one day when Im older, I hope I can write as pure and full of emotion as you do. As soon as I finished reading, I just knew I had to reach out. I hope you know how wonderful your stories are. Even though its a fanfic, I think I’m going to cherish this story for a very long time, I just feel like it was that amazing.
